Congrats, everyone! I did not win Williams, so I'll be trying again in the US lottery and paying $$$. I wish the Global Membership was valid on VolksUSA, as I really wanted to use my points/earn more points.

Woah, congrats to everyone else who won! The win rate is honestly much higher than I was expecting. I was prepared for the worst where we'd have another Oscar/Andre situation of like... no Oscars and two Andres out of everyone here that applied.
Did we only have two Cecile winners though? Another two of my friends who haven't posted here won Williamses as well. So out of a group of 4 friends who entered, only one (me lol ) didn't win, which is honestly really good! It was 100% on Williams and 50% on Cecile out of our little group.

I need to go see what scalpers want for Cecile out of sheer curiosity. If I don't win him through Volks USA I think I'll have to hope that his resale rate on y!J/Dollyeria/Mandarake doesn't go up too much and then wait a few years until EMS is available again. I don't think I could justify paying an inflated price and like $200 for DHL. One or the other orz.

I'm in the group that won Williams but lost out on Cecile. (Will try for Cecile again through Volks USA, although that sales tax is a bit...hurty for us Golden State folk.)

To anybody else that got a congrats email, is the pending card charge showing up for you? I used a credit card and no sight of a pending charge yet. Hoping it shows up soon. It somehow doesn't feel quite "real" yet without the impending bill, lol.

Would the 8-9 inch wigs fit the SDGr girls head? The one thing I'm not used to is the scale of the head of Volks dolls compared to Korean dolls.

 

@Ephemeral_Dream Yes, they do fit 8-9 wigs.

 

They generally fit, but it might be worthwhile to measure your girl's head since sometimes Volks' noggins can be pretty big.

 

I also won young Williams! This is the first time I entered Volks Dolpa lottery. I didn’t expect to win since these boy are so popular and my luck is a meh....But I won!! Can’t wait to meet him. He will be my SD17 Williams younger self.

 

It's a clickwar on Volks Japan right now, but I got everything I wanted. reminds me of old gaming days. except much more expensive!

It wasn't as bad as I expected. I went for the things we wanted most in the first chunk and then when checkout actually went smoothly, I did a second round for the other things. Paying double for shipping is crappy, but the total still wasn't bad.

 

Agreed, that clickwar was brutal, at least for me x_x Midway through adding stuff to my cart, the site kept crashing and I was starting to doubt if I could get to the checkout with everything still there. My order did go through so I'm pretty jazzed about that.

 

Anyone know how likely is it for the new clothes that just started to sell an hour ago to restock? Literally i was only 15 min late and everything I wanted was gone............

 

I totally forgot about it lol. Some items are still in stock but the sizes I need are out of stock. Bummer.

 

OMG, that's crazy. I bought 4 things and they're all sold out. You have to power through the crashes, or wait for restock or Volks USA. I waited a few years for an SD17 Elements plaid outfit that I foolishly didn't buy with the other style offered. Patience is key. (and a gaming background) hope they restock soon. I wonder how they match fabrics?

Thank you for the heads up on the restock! I nabed that SD17 Shukuru Chocolat outfit. I had not been paying much attention to the outfits from this Dolpa, and they're all amazing!

 

That's so cool. Volks seems more prepared for international frenzy. It should take the edge off new outfit shopping.

 

I forgot the clothes were dropping today so thankfully I missed the clickwar, but I was still able to pick up the denim pants and embroidery boys outfit. If the outfit doesn't work for my DSD then my incoming little Will can wear it.

 

I didn’t want to bother with the click war and was planning on just entering the Volks USA lottery for those heart purses, but then they were still in stock after the initial rush! So I grabbed them and a couple of other things I’ve been eyeing on in the international store.

It actually looks like very few clothing items sold out so far. Is this more common recently? I thought it was typical for half the items to sell out shortly after release.

 

Aw man, I checked earlier after folks said it wasn't too bad over at the clickwar (also was not planning to bother with it) and Modern Wa was already out of stock, and totally missed the restock Gonna have to cross my fingers for the lottery at USA. I actually haven't seen them restock anything before though so I'll refresh the page periodically over the next day or so just in case?

Edit: Woah, I just noticed that some listings now have an "awaiting restock" tag while other items having a "sold out" tag. Is this new? Definitely gonna refresh periodically!

BTW, did anyone order the black zori? I really want a pair (or two!) but am worried about the fit, because I have this pair and they're too big even for SD17 feet . If anyone did, would you mind letting me know how the fit is when you get them? I want them for SD13/GR size dolls, but at this point I'm just curious if they'd even fit SD17.

Thank you, I'd love that! Switch feet aren't that terribly far off from SD17 feet anyway! Here's to hoping they don't just fall off like the white pair ;-; The elastic on one shoe is even longer than on the other and they just fly right off.

 

@Astro It didn't look so big on the F-71 modeling it, so here's hoping they fixed the sizing this time! I, too, would love to have SD17 shoes that aren't borderline clown size. I don't think I even own a pair that fits my doll just right.

And somewhat HTD17 related: My chair stands arrived today! I didn't expect them to arrive so soon, and I ordered them just this Friday?!

@mionnaise OMG, I love him! His everything is so cute! I didn't care for those chairs either until they came out with the new colors. Now I'm a little tempted!

I'm also hoping that the new zori will at least fit one size of Volks doll. It's one thing if you can stuff the toes with tissue paper, but when it comes to a pair of sandals there's nothing you can do if they're too big. I think the little dolly Tevas sandals from Dolpa are super cute and silly and I really want a pair, but I'm worried about the fit on those too

 

Volks USA just updated with the July New Outfit Collection 2020. I might get the Ash Rose Middle School dress and Bear Rain Coat...

 

I slept through the clothes clickwar (I forgot), but managed to get almost all what I wanted after the restock. I'm quite pleased, and I'll try my luck with the VolksUSA lottery for the remainder.

I just nudged Hubby to enter for Williams for me for Christmas... we will see if he acts on the suggestion at all

I finally gave up on waiting for Japan EMS to resume and opted for sea mail for my old Snow White Nono that has been sitting in the Buyee warehouse for months. Hopefully, she (and her acrylic display case) arrive in one piece! I was reviewing the auction photos and got a little confused by her body, however.



All of the old reference sites have this limited release Nono listed as coming on the SD Girl body, but this one clearly has the torso in two pieces. Did the SD Girl body come in a two-piece version, or was that strictly SD13 that this began? This doll was released in 2000 so I thought that pre-dated the two-piece torsos (with the exception of the Coming of Age Nono with her kimono torso), so now I'm wondering if her body was switched out at some point?

 

@I<3MySD I remember seeing old Volks girls with a split torso SD10 body on Y!J once or twice (not the suwarriko body), but I always assumed they were FCS only. I first though they were SD13, but the waist was... more hourglass shaped? Like the suwarriko body but with the edges of the chest part sanded down. No idea if there already was FCS in 2000 though, I'm not that much of a Volks expert sadly. Hopefully someone else here knows more.

Got some new cute stuff from Y!J/Dollyteria/Mandarake in for my girls over the past weeks (I don't want to know how much DHL and my country's customs made off me recently>.<) and today I finally had some time to try some of it on my girls. I need pumpkin pants or short poofy/flaring skirts with these hoodies I think, but they look good with just frilly bloomers too (which you can't see in this shot of course=_=). Planning to do a proper shoot later, but I wanted to share this quick shot .Took forever to get them to sit on that cushion on my mattress without falling or leaning backwards, but it worked. I'm beginning to want at least a split-torso SD10 for Aichan (Mia), the solid torso SD10 really is limited in posing even compared to the SD13.

@ShuriTigerH Thank you for sharing that! That is interesting because it does look like a really small bust, so I agree, it seems more like the SD10 body rather than the SD13. This gal comes with her original dress, case and even shipper box, so it would be really bizarre if someone switched something up, though not unlikely. I suppose I will have to see what it looks like when she gets here and do some comparisons! The auction photos were absolute rubbish so I don't have much to go off of haha.

@I<3MySD I'd say that it's possible they upgraded the body at some point during one of Volks' trade-in things, but it's still got the peg feet so it's definitely prior to when they started that... From what I know they did have jointed bodies besides the kimono version even back then, I'm just not sure who was ever using what, originally. Definitely keep us updated, I'm curious!

 

@idrisfynn Woo, thank you! If they'll actually fit nicely on the GR boy body then I'm good to go for them! If they only really look good on SD17 then... I might be able to get away with it on other dolls, but I was really hoping to get a pair for one of my Dates.
Why are Volks shoes sometimes SO big. I'm afraid to order the more unique pairs that they've been releasing lately since they might be too big for my needs.

 

Oh that would be lovely! It really does puzzle me that they don't seem to have a standard shoe size? Some of their clothing slopes don't seem standardized either. I know part of it is because they try to accommodate a range of sizes, but some of it is just ???

Another thing I'd like to know: my Dates (and I think his original release?) have this really nice slot carved out behind their ears for their wigs to sit in so that they fall in a more natural place. I've personally never seen it on any other dolls, Volks or otherwise. Is there a reason why? It's an awesome little feature IMO!

It must have been because of his ponytail wig? Would be cool to have on other dolls, but maybe it's difficult to do the undercut molds.

 

@St. James That's the thing! Date's 2nd edition didn't even have the ponytail wig. They just must not have added anything back in behind his ears though? Their wigs sit so much nicer and I'd really love to see that as an option on more dolls.

 

I even owned a Date for a hot minute, now that I think about it. I vaguely recall it being a nice thing. Seems like a.mod that could be done with some sanding tape or a diamond grit rod saw.

 

Yeah, that sounds simple enough! I do worry a bit about how structurally sound it might be on a doll where a gap behind the ears wasn't intended though. I want to say Date's ears are pretty big to allow for it? I just fixed one of their wigs today so you'd think I'd have remembered it better I'm also a weenie that worries about devaluing heads.

Would love to see it on other heads going forward though!

 

@Astro We've been in the hobby for so long that it's hard for me to expect anything to hold it's value now. Every time I click the order button a tiny voice whispers "expensive garbage...."
I'll have to keep the idea in mind next time I'm swearing at a doll that looks good in zero of the wigs I've purchased for them.

 

@St. James Pretty much! But some Volks sculpts tend to hold their value more than I'd like. I would prefer not to be terrified to play with some of these dolls knowing how much they go for 2nd hand .

 

Oooh, just saw that the charge for @idrisfynn 's Young Cecile went through from the international lottery, so it feels real and true! That means my F-58 boy gets a shiny new SD10 body, since Cecile will be chibified. Speaking of sizes with no dedicated clothing, are there any high quality indie makers who cut clothes specifically for SD10 boys? That don't just sell at Dolpa??
