Last weekend I have removed the old faceup of my old F-06 She is really a beauty. I quite love this old style, simple design but still really pretty. Here are some pictures of the blank head before I start a new faceup:

Joining all of you guys to subscribe to this thread cause after almost ten years of collecting MSDs only, I'm suddenly all about the big Volkses and went from one random SD (FCS F13) to... Eleven (FCS F13, F22, F01, F05, Nono, Rio, Michele, Shiratori, Yugiri, One-Off Ushiwakamaru and a discontinued F07).

So I'm here for all those Volks news and looking at other people's Volks dolls to maybe add to the crew and maybe get back into taking proper pics of my girls that are not phone pics in instagram

 

Something very similar happened to our collection! I think what happened is that a lot of the Volks dolls we'd loved when they first came out (and couldn't afford) appeared on the secondhand market at good prices after about a decade. We're mostly MSD-size collectors and have been in the hobby since '05, but never actually owned a Volks doll until like 2013, when we got a secondhand Kanata and F20. That was all for several years, until recently, when we started checking Mandarake on the regular. Now we have nine: five SD/13 boys, two MSDs, and two Yos. (Mandarake is dangerous.)

After all that I STILL don't have my first Volks doll crush, which was the original Isao release. (One of our Yos is Isao, though.) We're off doll purchases for the next year unless something major changes, though that doesn't keep me from going and looking up Shiro Tachibanas a lot....

 

I would still love a Shirou. Or, you know, all the Tokyo Story dolls. I have an original Isao lined up for next month I just need to get paid, he’ll be my first.

 

I can only agree on how dangerous Mandarake is! (or Dollyteria, or Y!J...) or you know, second hand in general. Because suddenly unobtainable grail dolls seem so affordable!

I used to be content just seeing @Khell's Volks crew occasionally and then she gifted me Nono and Rio and it actually went downside then and there

 

Congrats @usagi665! Isao is love, Isao is life.

And yeah a lot of the old old dolls have come down a lot. Tsukasa used to be 2k+, I got mine a couple years back for less than 750. Great for the wallet but a little sad.

I wish we'd get some Tokyo Boys re-releases or more 'grown up' versions. Tsukasa is still the only one with only one release, and Isao had two but they were close together.

 

Amen to the dangerousness of Mandarake and Y!J! And Dollyteria too, they have far too much nice stuff, I have so much on my wishlist

I am having far too much fun these days getting my girls all decked out for winter in all the cute, fluffy stuff I can find. Here's my little Aihime (Volks Mia on SD10) showing off her super snuggly bunny ear coat and fluffy booties (under artificial light, which my phone camera obviously doesn't like). I'm on a hunt for SD sized lolita coats now, I only have three girls (and a head) at the moment, but something tells me they'll end up with more than one each.

I had a feeling you would comment about Isao So many of you haven’t even changed your avatars since I was last active in the hobby, and I remember so many of everyone’s beloved dolls! It’s very nice when nostalgic feelings still ring true.

The secondhand market on older Volks releases now is such a temptation. I really want to make a Williams girl and it's starting to actually be feasible at a price point I'm willing to pay for a doll.

@Kim Williams girl sounds absolutely fantastic, I'd love to see that! (I saw a YoMidi Williams girl recently, that made me sorta regret selling mine XD)

EDIT: my Ushiwakamaru One-Off is at the warehouse of my agent ahhhh! Gotta wait till January to have her shipped however, I had to pay so many customs fees this month already AND my F07 is shipping too let's see if I manage to hold off on not getting her right away

 

I second all the love for the Tokyo Boys Story, especially Tsukasa. I just don’t know why Volks keeps passing him over. I was hoping the Best Selection would fix that, but I guess he didn’t get enough love. I’d also like an Isao of my own someday!

I think they sell their clothes on Booth as well, so you may try that if you can't go to doll event in Japan.

@usagi665 - the crew has had some changes over the years but Atobe stays. I've found my fave size really is the SD girls so they now reign supreme. I finally got the Liz I'd always wanted!

@Roterwolkenvogel - just something about that Williams nose that makes me want to see it as a handsome woman

And yeah, Remus may be long gone(and really, everyone except Ephram and Saresha who came in at the tail end), but I keep that shot of his hand as a memento. XD Haha there've been a couple of replacements though for dolls I had to sell back then. XD

 

@Roterwolkenvogel I love to see that you are joining the big Volks addiction You have got so many wonderful Volks dolls, I'd love to see pictures!
I actually started the doll hobby with Volks (still my first doll ever was a Soom; but he was followed just a few months later by Genji) and my collection grew to so many different dolls and styles - but still, my love for Volks is strong. With my old F-06 and an incoming old Sara I feel like the times when I started into the hobby. It's also strange, every year about the same time (late Autumn to Christmas) I'm totally into Volks again. Totally need to take and share more pictures of them soon

 

Pictures soon I hope! Tho the Michele desperately needs a repaint, she's the original 2004 release and while the faceup is in pristine condition... It's a crime, that's what it is

But I paid the shipping for Ushiwakamaru so maybe for New Year I do all pic of all of them!

 

Talking of faceups, I really have a problem when it comes to wipe a Volks faceup to repaint... but some of the originals are so ...well, not my taste Some of my Volks still have their original „not my taste“ faceups (Lucas, Cindy, Arashi) where I cannot get the nerves to redo them. I‘m already afraid to receive my old Sara with her simple painted face, afraid that I cannot remove it „because it is so old and part of history“

 

I know just what you mean! I have a Shizu/Madoka with the Japanese style makeup and while it seemed so detailed when I first brought her home more than ten years ago it seems very simple now but I can’t wipe it - it’s just so classic and I have so many memories attached to it! I’ve even thought of getting a second Madoka head just so that I could have alternate makeup. Is that crazy or has anyone else done it??

 

@Kim Please do, so I don't have to. I've been itching for a Williams girl as well. If someone else does one then perhaps it'll scratch that itch....or make it worse.

 

One the one hand I totally get wanting to preserve the old faceup for the historical value, but on the other I'm that person who gets super annoyed at these old ones cause they lack everything I like (which is more Volks' current over the top style).

So honestly @Majenta your idea with two heads sounds sensible!

 

A little update from my old F06 - I finished her new faceup (sorry, not the best picture quality^^) She is currently waiting for new eyes which I get from Kanis, I hope they'll fit.

@Majenta oh I feel with you, and I think it's a great idea to get a second head (I actually thought of this too)

As for old Volks face-ups - I got that old F-28 here, Gabriel, my pirate captain's cabin boy. He did come with a face-up (also, clothes, wig and shoes) and it's really plain compared to other face-ups I got on other dolls. Totally torn about whether or not to keep it since it's part of doll history (and might be by Rumina, someone wrote that name inside the head with pencil, maybe to make a note of who did the FCS face-up). On the other hand, I'd sure like a new, nice face-up for Gabriel ...

 

I can completely relate. I think If I ever find an old enough doll that is well preserved I might hesitate to repaint it. But remember Volks does have them all preserved at Tenshi no Sato forever

Today I got my next old Volks doll: she is from 1999 what the headplate says, but I cannot tell if she is a Sara/Kira/Megu/Nana or F01... She still has hints on nipple- and nailblushing, her faceup looks like a very old Volks default. But when I check online pictures of those old molds, she does look only similar to the first releases. It's said that this sculpt was first available for FCS in 2004, so I'm a little confused now who she really is. Did the old FCS all have 1999 carved inside their heads even released in 2004?
Her eye colour is violet, the pictures show her much darker than in real, sorry I took the pictures in a rush at roomlight^^ (and she is not yellowed like the pictures!!!!! I'll take better pics later): more pictures

 

In 2004 most sculpts allready had the metal headplates attached. My old kira has 1999 engraved in her head but she was bought second hand in 2003 so she is definitly older. ( i only know she is a kira because the old owner had scribbled it in the headcap else there is no way keeping them apart)

The way her eyebrows have been painted makes me think this is not an original paint by Volks but rather an overpaint or wiped and repainted face up ( the old style eyebrows used to be painted solidy by Volks not with individual hairs)

 

@allanieew I think you are right, she could be a repaint. Also, I never saw a Volks without painted lower lashes. This girl came with glued short parts of lower lashes (actually darkest purple lashes), I removed them because one part was already about to fall off. Her eyeshadow also looks a bit uneven, so does the lipstik. The only thing which makes me think she might be a Sara, are her violet eyes which look default.

 

@Sadomina congrats on your new old girl! it's a funny coincidence, i just got an old f-01 today too!



her head is way more yellowed than her body, but the body seems to be the old (pre-2003?) type with really chunky wrist and ankles! she's missing her headcap, so i'll probably never know how old the head really is, but my best guess is post 1999 because of the shape of the inside of her head. i'm eager to start fixing her up! i thought that the body was going to need a lot of work, but her strings are still in good shape and she's actually sueded! she stands like a champ and poses very smoothly!

@Sadomina My guess would be Sara Standard Version as well with the eyes and red lips. But like has been said, definitely owner modified.

The lowest photo is the original from 1999.

@c4tbus I've managed to be in this hobby forever and still never gotten a Four Sisters. I'm hoping to remedy that next year by rescuing someone (hopefully Kira) like you did here

@Sadomina haha! yes! four sisters project day! i hope yours is easier to clean than mine has been. i don’t think the last owner sealed the head before applying the faceup ........

@Khell yes! i fell in love with her at first sight! not sure what it was about her, but i had a dream about her the same night i saw her. it is kind of convenient that she’s missing her headcap too, because now i can sculpt a new one with a build in eye mechanism. i’m gonna be making a project journal for this girl, so there will for sure be a lot of pictures!

 

For anyone interested, the Tenshi no Sato Adoption Model prices : SDMidi/MSD 30,000 yen, SD 65,000 and SDGr boy 73,000. However, they are only available to people who are residents in Japan and not available to those just visiting.

 

Does Switchs' NS/WS match Volks' NS/WS with any consistency?

 

I’m not sure if I shared him after LA Dolpa, but I was lucky enough to bring home the Best of the Best Cain! After trying for him several times I’m very excited to have him in my family. I’ve named him ‘Rune’ and he’s gaining a bad habit of claiming a lot of the good Japanese dealer clothes I buy.

 

@revien Switch NS is a little darker, and a touch peachier then current Volks NS. It's also more matte than Volks NS because it has more tooth.

Also, I don't know about regular Switch WS, but Rosy white is an OK match for Volks WS, with Volks being a touch darker, and a tad bit more beige/ivory. But, again with a faceup, and some blushing I think it could work.

My Switch NS, and RW are both from 2016, and my Volks NS is from this year, and my WS from 2018.

 

@Sadomina Those eyes definitely look like Sara to me. And just to clarify - the current version of FCS started in 2004 but there was a version prior to that too. You can see some additional details here.

My F78 is back from her faceup, and I have to say that I am drawn to neither the eyes nor the wig I had initially planned for her, and instead am kinda feeling this random combo. I've had those old thin orange Zouks forever so it's nice to have a doll to use them for me.

Also I am always amazed at how yellow my poor Liz is, wow poor girl. I stole her body since it was the first one I found. I'm currently debating what to put the F78 on.

 

@Kim Love the eyebrows. May I ask who did the faceup?

 

@Kim she's really rocking that combo and if you hadn't said so, I'd have assumed that look was planned from the start!

 

It took several weeks of wrangling via email, but I had an omukae done at Sato during the winter flower (Dahlia) event! They gave us a little bouquet.
Hella on Instagram: “Got an omukae done at Sato. I was told for the two of us to dress nicely so she got the tux. #superdollfie #sd16 #volks #bjd…”

 

Ahh all these old girls are magical! I love seeing these old dolls find new loving homes! Especially the 'rescues'! They're always such sweet wonderful dolls, like something in them knows.

 

I take a photo of Volks NS and Switch NS under white light.
Volks came at Apr 2019 and Switch at Apr 2018. I think they become quite similar now.
