Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XVI

Jun 26, 2015

1. @reitaism, F40 is lovely! Reminds me of Okita 2nd.
@rianne, love Illyana's wig!

Volks linked to an announcement about the next Dolpa on Twitter: ドルパ改革 ~更に楽しいドールイベントの開催のために~

Feeble Google Translate seems to be suggesting that they're going to make some changes. Like all doll sales will be by lottery? I'm not entirely sure! There are also some pie charts with the results of a survey, but no translation for those because they're an image. I hope someone with Japanese language skills can report back here what it says, pretty please! XD

2. http://www.volks.co.jp/limiteddollfie/
Briefly glanced through this, looks like it will be by lottery more and more. If one enter for items during the event, there is higher chance to get the items.
But there is still a big problem, if Volks can't stop one person using several accounts.. the problem is still there :/

3. I believe they are looking to improve/reform the Dolpa experience. There have been a lot of complaints about organized scalpers coming to Dolpas in groups, making the event unpleasant for Dollfie fans. Sometimes homeless people are hired to stand in line to get limiteds, people cut in line rudely, photos have been taken of groups of people (suspected of being scalpers) making off with large quantities of dolls while people who really wanted the dolls go home empty handed, and a few months ago, someone on twitter directed complaints against Volks because she was physically assaulted when confronting someone who had cut in line. This has become a pretty bad problem with limited items in Japan, whether it's a doll or limited name brand clothing. I think this is a way for Volks to tell people they are listening.

I loosely translated the pie chart stuff. I think people were handed a questionnaire, and these are the results.

1. Waiting times for getting limited items at Dolpa 33. 51% said it was too long. 31% said short/average. 17% said "I don't know". White comment box says that it takes too long from the lottery to paying to receiving the doll, and that if you don't get to the venue fast enough, the lines become too long. Mr. Shigeta says, "We're going to lessen the waiting times!"

2. The ways/method of purchasing limited items at Dolpa. 43% said it was complicated/hard. 39% said there was easy/no problem. In the white comment box, there are complaints about there being blatant organized groups, and a plea to not sell to resellers. Mr. Shigeta says, "There are many people who find it unpleasant. We must improve!"

3. The environment (where you obtain the limiteds) at Dolpa. 44% said it was bad. 37% said it was good/no problem. White comment box says there's too much moving involved in the line for limiteds and it was tiring. People were cutting in line, and they want something to be done about people who break the rules. Mr. Shigeta says, "Mumumu..." (Distressed/concerned noise)

4. The amount of time allotted for enjoying Dolpa 33's Tea Party and photographing opportunities. 39% said I don't know. 36% said it was good, no problems. 24% said it was bad. White comment box says, "The time spent trying to obtain limited items is too long". Mr. Shigeta says, "We must get more interest for the events!"

5. The way sales are handled at the Dolpa After Event to purchase limiteds. 49% said good, no problem. 40% said bad. Mr. Shigeta says, "Seems like lotteries are favored!"

Apologies in advance if I missed anything.

4. Gnossienne, thank you soooo much for that! I'm hopeful that this means a fairer distribution of dolls... though the downside of fewer scalpers is that sometimes scalpers are the only access international people have to dolls. Maybe Volks will start basing their production numbers on lottery entries? I sorta doubt it but it would be nice!

5. Happy to help. That would be really nice. I feel like there are several ways that Volks could go about making things fair for everyone involved. Personally, I'd like to see more pre-orders. There will always be scalpers, but I feel like being able to pre-order a limited doll would make things less frustrating and competitive. I think Volks is trying to appease people by offering re-releases of their more popular dolls, but it seems like it's backfiring in some cases, especially with the amount of people still missing out to scalpers. But this new campaign seems to be about rebuilding good will with their Dolpa attendees, who were very vocal about their displeasure with regards to recent events.

Speaking as an international buyer, I've practically resigned myself to paying scalper prices whenever I lose on a lottery. I feel like I shouldn't, as it contributes to the cycle of scalping... so I really hope Volks makes it easier for people who really want their dolls, to get their dolls! :'(

Edited to add: I just read the page tiyama linked. And it really does seem like they're testing out a new way to get limited dolls this summer. If I'm not mistaken, there are two ways to get dolls. One is, applying online or at a storefront. And the other is applying at the Dolpa. You can do both, but entering the lottery for dolls at the Dolpa only increases your chances of getting them. You can no longer receive dolls directly at the Dolpa, and if you enter the lottery at the Dolpa, you must choose to either receive the doll at a storefront at a later date if you have won, or by COD through the post (and you must have a Japanese address). I think this would discourage non-residents from attending the Dolpa to get a doll...

6. That - does sound like you'll only be able to get a limited doll if you either can go to a storefront or have a Japanese address which both kinda equals living in Japan, doesn't it?

7. Gnossienne's translation was pretty accurate.

I'd already heard about Volks requiring a Japanese address or some sort of proof of residency at events at Mado. I guess people at said event had been complaining about groups of people from other Asian countries coming in organized groups and buying up all of the limited dolls before the locals had a chance.

8. I was thinking of a pre-lottery before the event where the event itself pretty much just becomes a come and pick up your doll type thing, which would hopefully leave people more time to enjoy other aspects of the Dolpa. At the same time I could see how that might keep people who don't win a doll from wanting to attend at all, which could lower attendance, which they may not want.

9. Thanks for the translation Gnossienne !

I'm really curious to see how this method is going to work out for this Dolpa. I'm also hoping it means that they will make more dolls! Please Volks! Pre-orders!! I didn't witness any of the crazy for dolls at Dolpa 33 as I was in general admission and only heard stories. I know there wasn't as many dolls as there have been in the past but I know that at the last Tenshi no Sato event for Una, they made 1,000 YoTenshi Una dolls! So everyone that wanted her on the day, went home with her. There was even left overs for a couple days. Hopefully with a tighter controlled lottery, it means that there will be more dolls for people who want them and maybe Volks will be encouraged to make more dolls with these new rules. The downside is for the foreign collector travelling to Japan for Dolpa (who isn't a scalper or recaster) won't have a chance to get the doll at the venue which is sad. And the general admission line will likely be that much longer. :sweat

But I am very happy that Volks is recognizing that there is a real problem at Dolpa and that they are trying something new to solve it.

I did notice that Volks released a photo of SDGr Alice/YoSD Alice on their twitter, and I'm wondering if that means we will see them this Dolpa and maybe the same release for LA Dolpa? Curious indeed!

10. Welp, didn't get to reply before the old thread was closed - but thank you to all who commented on my Saya, she is very dear to me! :aheartbea

Also, reitaism, your F-40 boy is gorgeous! He fits very well on that body :D

Looking forward to seeing what dolls will be released at the next HTD in August, though I don't think there'll be any more dolls for me this year considering I'm gonna get myself a new gaming computer :chibi

Here's another of Saya to start off the customary photo spam of the new thread! :)

11. Yes, it sure does. So gee - I guess I'll stick w/the KOREAN sites.... funny how that works. And I hear about Japanese complaints that Korea specifically (w/China & SE Asia honorable mentions) are overtaking Japanese businesses in the international (read Asian) market - wonder why? So Volks is just following the overall trend of Japanese businesses.
Good that they take polls etc - I've heard that Volks customer service is superb.

12. For what it's worth, the second round of the leftover Ami Ayase seems to have gone in under a minute! I'm not surprised at all, but its certainly impressive.

I hope that at least the online lottery sales will make things less hectic. Like pris84 said, I hope this means that they may make larger quantities of them! But its a shame that it makes it extra hard for legitimate out of country collectors who love their work. You can't blame them too much with the way things are currently, but maybe we'll see some other good things in the future too if they're willing to make large changes to their selling practices.

13. Did anyone on den of angels manage to get an Ami? I wasn't trying for her myself, but I imagine the click war must have been unreal.

14. The Chinese employ the Japanese to participate in activities. It is clear that the Japanese have an address in Japan. They will not remain without dolls.
Foreigners will become harder to buy a doll. This will increase the demand for the dolls in the secondary market, and raise their prices. And where is the high price - there will be more Chinese ... and more fakes occur.

I was at the Volks Dolpa 33. I was unable to get a happy numbered. Although the time to go through all twice. He did not win the lottery. And I could not buy it this morning.
I do not think this is normal. From the client's perspective. But it's good for the Chinese people, is not it? :)

15. Yeah. Well, I get my Volks dolls on the 2nd hand market - for fairly obvious reasons. ~sigh~

16. I think the issue already starts with non-Japanese residents even being unable to become a Volks VIP members even when they but legitimate, limited Volks dolls straight from the Volks website (via lottery or one of the leftovers). It doesn't have to be VIP status - I'd just like a chance to get a Volks membership number or card that I can give them or show them for things like visiting Tenshi no Sato or so.

17. Annnnnnnnd.... looks like Volks USA has the "same *fail*, different day" thing going on.:doh

Has anyone else gotten through today so far?

18. No. Now they have announced they are going to do a lottery to release the items and more information will be released next week.

19. I just want two steeeeeenking things Volks! Just two things!

I'm spent.

20. Holy shhhhhh! Is Volks trolling us?? Hahaha! I'm eyeing the school desk, but all the trouble is putting me off.

21. Motiko, Saya is gorgeous! Jun's resemblance to Shiro is easy to see in that pic. Which body is she on?? Her bust looks huge!

22. A lottery instead??? Yay!!!

23. This sounds like they're going to cut their dolls reach to reduce people being able to obtain them from overseas with the assumption that Japan residents aren't scalping dolls (I really can't believe there is no one doing this in Japan).

The only way I think they're going to cut down scalpers is to make it easier to obtain the doll for the people who want it and increase quantities. The limited quantity of the doll really hurts customers more then anything. They also can't predict the demand consistently it seems like, as we all know what happened with the secondhand prices of Rose/Bianka and Ran (they tanked, hard). Allowing more preorders I think would help this, but their wait time is much too high that i would ever want to do a preorder with Volks right now. It's over a year I think.

24. I wonder what that does for people like Masamichi who are or were buyers? He used to get my limited dolls for me.....way back......in the old days. He was able to get Piccadilly Lucas, Capt'n Cecile, and others for me. I never really had any luck with the lotteries except one.....woot!! So, paying "reasonable" scalpers is sadly the way I've been able to get these beauties. (Ok, reasonable and scalpers is an oxymoron.)

25. Thank you! :) The bust IS kind of huge :sweat (but I like it for her ;))
She's on the SQlab DG61 body (which can wear DD and DDdy clothes)

26. Souseiseki and Suiseiseki (spellings?) also tanked hard for quite some time after their release, but their prices have since increased quite a bit.

In those 2 cases (Sou/Suiseiseki & Rose/Bianka/Ran), it also seemed like there were more of them available so the people who really wanted them got them and didn't have to purchase from the secondhand market. I agree - make them easier to obtain, and the scalping will be reduced naturally. :)

27. I like her on it too. It really boosts her sexy quotient! :fangirl:

My SD13 Link's 10th birthday was last week! He was made by Volks in March 2005 and came to live with me in May of 2005. Here's a pic I took of him not too long after he arrived, it is still a favorite of mine. He will always be my Hiro-chan!

28. @Motiko Saya is gorgeous! Her eyes are so big and pretty!
@galatia9 Happy belated birthday to your handsome Link! I think it's wonderful you've had him for so long.

I guess for this upcoming Kyoto Dolpa, there are no limited Super Dollfies. Instead, they're going to have 80 unique One Off Models of all 80 FCS head options available. :O (Link)

A million edits later: There's a new type of Super Dollfie called DearSD. (Link) I think it's similar to the Yo-Midi concept, but with an SD sized head on an MSD sized body?

29. Thank you! I'm eager to mess around with him on my day off to see what I can do with him :) Your girl is very cute too! :D I love her faceup~

That is so sweet! I like the pic too. I still miss my first Volks dolls from back in the day. I wish I had been able to hold onto them longer, but life situations called for money that I couldn't really obtain without selling off my possessions ~_~ and now my home seems to have a revolving door lol. But I love seeing dolls that have been with their owners for the long haul. It's those that are really special, I think.

30. I was wondering about the new DearSD line, I heard it from Turbow on Facebook. The measurements say its 43cm which is basically MSD, although the head is SD right? Doesn't look "bobble-head"ish at all which is nice. This means that SD heads can be interchangeable with this line, no?

31. I think these new Dear SDs look very much like the old European dolls. It's an interesting idea and they look pretty good but I can't help feel that they are releasing another new body/concept instead of releasing a new head on an existing body or re-releasing something that was very popular but underproduced. It feels like here are so many different Volks sizes now.

For once though, I'd like to see Volks do an all boy Dolpa - boy dolls, boy clothing, boy shoes, etc … - only. No girl stuff. Love the girls but I think the boys need some serious love. :aheartbea

32. I am SUPER EXCITED about the DearSD line--especially Nono. She's my favourite, and this new body is more in line with my tastes than even the SD girl body. I am on pins and needles waiting for more information~ And the dress sets look really cute, too. Chamillia, I am fairly certain that Volks News implies that the body can be used for SD heads.

33. With re-casts happening more and more could this be another reason Volks is changing the way to get limited dolls from a Dolpa? I can only imagine the frustration standing in line or worse having someone cut in line to get the limited doll and then re-sale for a crazy amount. Makes getting these dolls seem impossible and takes away die hard fans from getting them.

34. Motiko , Saya is gorgeous , I love her hair colour !

galatia9 , that's a lovely photo , he's a cutie :D

35. Motiko: Saya is stunning! Love her vibrant look.

Reitaism: F35 is so versatile. Obviously, I'm biased towards a girl version, but it makes a super charming boy as well. Can't wait to see yours once you get it. :3

Some spam of my f35/saki pair, Illyana and Alice.

[IMG]:3 by =^● ⋏ ●^=, on Flickr

36. Chamillia The Dear SD body only works with SD and SD13 heads. The body is about MSD in height but proportioned more like a YoSD (wider shoulders and torso etc). It's only a little thinner than the standard SD body its just.. stubby!

I can see the more anime style heads looking good on it (or the smaller more realistic heads).
I can't wait until someone pops a more realistic mature head on it though, that'll be hilarious. If anyone gets one please put a Date etc on it for me?

37. I'm trying to decide whether a Tae head would look good on a DearSD body or not... hm... Isn't it one of the smaller SD heads? Might look like the vintage/european dolls pris84 was talking about, which is something I'm interested in :-)

And MORE girl stuff all the way :XD:

38. Chamillia I think would probably look very cute on the Dear SD body. I think Tae is a bit smaller but not a tiny head like say some of the SD16 girl heads. I think aesthetically Tae's head would suit the body. :)

I find this release really intriguing but I'm not sure if I want to commit myself to another size of clothing plus I'm not sure what she would look like with my other dolls. Cute but different than my current crew. I almost feel like this doll should have been released before the SD, 16 years ago. I think some people will do some very cool things with her though. I wonder if she will fit some of the antique doll clothing out there?

39. I asked this on the Obitsu thread but I'm in a hurry (I need to know so I can make/decline the purchase and waiting could mean losing my opportunity ) I want to make a hatsune Miko head with a boy body, all I know is the obitsu 55cm body, does anyone have pictures or know if they look good? if not, the default Miku body has small boobies, can it be turn into a boy (can I sand down her chest? I don't know if that's possible with vinyl dolls). Please help! *sweats*

Also, the head DDH-07 looks better with 22mm or 20mm eyes?

I've been wanting DD boys since a long time ago and I have plans to get these heads and turn them into boys if everything goes fine x.x

Any help is appreciated!

40. Sorry to be a bother, where are you all seeing the pictures from the new volks news? I couldn't find anything on google search...,

41. They did what now? Turned all their original SD heads into Fat Baby Dolls? :nowords:

42. Yumi:Look into Danny Choos male doll that's coming out later this year. It's a male vinyl doll, and he will be selling the body separately soon. Also, I like the look of smaller eyes. Go with 20mm. The eye size depends on the look you want for your doll. Using larger eyes can give a more doe-like or softer look, while smaller eyes can make your doll look more aware and active.

Sillypeach: Japanese residents get Volks News earlier and some scan and upload photos on a photosharing site like Flickr or Photobucket. I saw scans of the pages on a friend's Flickr.

43. Looking at pics on flicker, the DearSDs could almost work? The YoMidi's all looked really, really bizarre, but it looks like they've kept almost the same neck and shoulder width as the SD body so it's not as weird looking. Prob will all boil down to how the individual doll is styled if it looks good or god awful.

It's great they're trying new ways of handling sales at Dolpa, but of course Volks would choose the method that makes it the most exclusive to Japan and completely move to cut out the foreign, and more specifically, any Asian country that is not Japan, market. I wonder how the Japanese will react to not being able to get the tax break on buying the dolls at Dolpa, as I do believe that particular loop hole does not work preorders.

You'd think the more direct solution of stopping scalpers would be to just.....limit it to one guidebook per person. End of story. Of course, I am sure they like selling hundreds of additional guidebooks.

Ah well, there's really no changing their minds.

I lucked into some really cute furniture for my dolls recently. Sayuri can now sit like a princess.

44. Daniel Falls thank you for the suggestion =) I googled Danny Choos and he has amazing dolls :D since no one seems to know if the Miku head works with obitsu 55cm, I'll keep an eye on Danny Choo for the male body and buy the 55cm obitsu for the DDH-07 head because I found in google that that head looks great on the obitsu body.

45. Dear SD reminds me of Rosenlied Holiday dolls~ I do have holiday miu, and use as a hybrid with volks charlotte head :0

• x 1
46. Hm, looking at the Dear SD pics - nope, sorry, don't work for me at all. I'm definitely not into super-cute childlike dolls, not even when they're Volks. And with the changes they're gonna make to how to obtain limited dolls - let's hope there's still After Event lotteries for non-Japanese customers or else, my primary source of getting Volks Dolls will have to be Mandarake ... :(

47. Are there details of DearSD anywhere other than facebook?

Somewhere you don't have to register for to see them, perhaps?

They sound like my sort of doll, but I won't be able to tell until I see them and how the proportions work (or don't)

Teddy

48. I agree, YoMidi's are a complete no-no for me. I cannot bear to look at them for more than a few minutes.. :sweat But the DearSD look well proportioned. I wish we could see a nude version to better look at how the body is sculpted and styled. I think this is a great line for those who prefer the cutesy-child like aesthetic without going too big in size :-)

Also, great find on that sofa :D Sayuri really does look like a princess <3 I love the one leg behind the other ;)

49. Even though it's odd to have a new size, I really like the look of the DearSD and will be trying to acquire a Nono. ♥ The measurements for DearSD are slightly smaller than SD girl, even though the proportions are so different, so I think this doll will be able to wear SD clothing as long as the clothing is not fit for a defined bust. I'm eagerly waiting for more information from Volks regarding how these dolls will be available... I'd like to buy directly, but I'm willing to result to Y!JA if necessary.

@Teddy, I just found this blog post with pictures from Volks News 64: https://orchiddolls.wordpress.com/2015/06/29/volks-news-64/

50. Hmm... I think Volks was influenced by the popularity of Soom's iMda line in Japan (particularly the 5.2 size). The DearSDs really remind me of them.

51. I just looked at the DearSD... I think I'm in trouble. How adorable!

Kim - that chair is fantastic! She looks so pleased. :) Great find!

52. Is the Dear SD doll in the pink dress an Una?

53. Yes, she is a Una :-)

54. I'm not hugely into childlike dolls, but the DearSD remind me of a "little sister" to SD10 girls.

I'm a stickler for head proportion in dolls that I display together, and I never really got into MSDs for long, in part because they didn't quite "work" as younger SD girls because their heads and proportions weren't that of a younger child standing next to a 10-year-old (and Yo-SDs aren't scaled as "babies" next to SD girls, although they do have toddler-ish proportions on their own.)

I'd love to see a DearSD displayed nude, preferably next to an SD10 with the same head type, to get a better idea of how the proportions worked out -- but until we get owner pics, that isn't terribly likely.

I'd be open to getting a Four Sisters "little sister" for my existing Four Sisters girls, just because they'd make such cute tableaux together ^___^

-- A :kitty2

P.S. No, I wouldn't want Volks to *solely* steer toward baby-ish dolls, because that's not the focus of my collection, and it would wind up driving me away eventually. I like that SD10 and SD13 can look older or younger depending on clothing and face-up, and that SDGrG and SD16 are clearly intended to be adults.

However, they have made plenty of various childlike dolls (MSD, Yo-SD, various Tenshi) in the past, without stopping production of more mature dolls.

As long as DearSD is an *option* for people who enjoy them (as opposed to something that removes an existing line, like discontinuing the SD13 male body), I'm perfectly happy that they're experimenting.

I think the main reason they're only being sold as Coordinate Models is that they'll automatically have at least one outfit that fits them (although I guess that selling them as limited fullsets would have done the same thing?)

I would *speculate*, from the shoulder width and body dimensions that they *appear* to have, that they will be able to wear short-sleeved SD dresses and non-fitted tops, so dressing them might not be all that challenging, in the end.

55. Thanks! Reading what people were saying about the line I didn't think I'd be interested, but then I saw Una.:sweat

56. They're going to have Una, Kira, Nana, Nono, and SwD Nono. It's nice to see so much Una lately~! ♥

57. @MilkyTea SD clothes MIGHT fit as far as width if not too fitted, but length is going to be more of a problem. I suspect it'll be hit and miss with things fitting or working. Long sleeves, long dresses, and pants won't work because these dolls have MSD height (which means shorter arms and legs) but SD width (so MSD clothes won't work).
The legs are actually shorter than those of a MSD..

Size chart breakdown:

Dear SD height: 43
SD height: 55

(pretty big difference)

Dear bust: 21
SD bust: 23.7

Dear waist: 19.5
SD waist: 20.15

Dear Hip: 23
SD hip: 24.5

(so nothing too far off width-wise)

Dear Arm: 13 (MSD arm is 14)
SD arm: 17.5

(so nothing full length from SD clothes)

SD Leg: 26

(full length pants are out)

Dear SD Foot: 6 (msd feet are 5.5)
SD Foot: 6.5

Dear foot width: 2.5 (msd foot width is 2.7)
SD foot width: 3

(so they can share some shoes with SD and MSD)

Hope this info helps someone visualize this :D

58. You are correct about the length, eleniel ♥ Thank you for sharing the measurements. I was thinking shorter sleeves, etc. I think there will be some cases where it looks okay, some cases where it looks sloppy, and some cases where it just doesn't work. But I don't feel as though I won't be able to come up with a way for a DearSD to have cute clothes. ;)

59. Definitely!
I am pretty sure the Lady Archer etc sets will fit the DearSD just fine. CathyM has some of the sets and she puts them on her MSD girls and they look better than they do on the bigger dolls...
