Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXIII

    1. @ker246 the SD13/Graffiti boy hands are WAY too big for the 10 body. You’d need new wrist balls and they would be awkwardly oversized.

    2. Thank you for letting me know! Do you think the hands might work on an SD13 girl? I don’t know whether SD13 boy and girl hands are interchangeable

    3. The SD10 hands (boy or girl) work on SD13 girls. SD13/SDGr boy hands can work on SD17 boys and vice versa if you get the right wrist balls for the hands (but they are a little small on the 17). Really, the 13 boy hands are only useful for the big boys.

    4. First photo of the new volks thread XD
I'm so glad that my white skin one off Nana arrived and she is just so lovely, she would be even more adorable without the horrible dark yellow lightning.

    5. Your girls look so good together. The yellow lighting makes this feel like an old/historic photo.

    6. @Khlovera Beautiful girls! I agree that the lighting makes it look really vintage and whimsical. What a lovely group, thank you for sharing!

Edited to add: Every time I think one of my other girls might have inched past Audrey to be my favourite, I take a photo of her and she shoots straight back to first place!

    7. Hello! Guys, please any help..
I am looking for photo comparison of old SD13 boy body, which is single joints and new(Theodore) SDGr Revival
      Please.. anything
Just need to know how different proportions, about custom outfits, knitting, other.. if pictures of two bodies next to each other will be perfect..
      Thanks!!!

    8. @flowergirl I just can't get enough of your Audrey!

I recently re-homed my F08 girl (read: sold her to a good friend, and I've seen mock ups of the face-up she's planning to give her and boy, I LOVE the concept!) so I could finally get another of my dream dolls: Anais. The poor girl just called out to me to be rescued when I saw her on Mandarake, all dirty and at a price that basically screamed "we just want to get rid of this filthy thing" I couldn't help it. No pics as of yet, I still have to give her a proper cleaning but I absolutely adore her and that mohair wig she came with kinda makes her look like a mix of Anne of Green Gables (colour) and Hermione (bushiness). ;)

    9. Browsing on Mandarake is dangerous...

I...uhm... I may have been doing that myself yesterday. Maybe.

And I can't possibly be held responsible if some lonely-looking doll just happened to slip into my cart... or if the cat walked on my keyboard in just the right way to hit the "Buy 'Im" button.

      <_<

      >_>

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

(I don't think I can be blamed for pouncing on a one-off Cecile. I've only wanted that guy since about 2005.... )

    10. @eleniel @flowergirl thanks for both super nicely comments about the awful yellow lighting XD Volks old head are adorable, I especially love f-05 and f-07 a lot, also f-10! Too many cute and discontinued dolls, now they are rare on the market.

@Khell I gave up on purchasing her through Mandarake as I’ve already collected toooooo many news dolls lately, but I believe that she will be turning back beautifully! Please share photos of her once she’s ready ^^

Can’t be more agreed that Mandarake is definitely dangerous...

    11. @Khell I wondered who bought that Anais! I had her in my favourite list just in case she was still there on pay day, I can't wait to see photos when she is all finished :) And your lucky friend, f-08 is such a beautiful mould, I hope we might see her here too?

    12. @Brightfires Oh, it was you who snatched that Cecile? I saw him - gorgeous boy!

@flowergirl @Khlovera Hehe, great minds ... :) I'll take a while to clean her properly since I'm on vacation with my family this week but once I'm done I don't think anyone can stop me from posting pics here. :)

As for the F08 girl - I'm not sure whether my friend's on DoA and if so, how active she's here but once she's done I'll ask her if she's okay with me sharing a pic.

      • x 1
    13. Yep. I saw him and sort-of went all "Ooo! Gimme!".

'No clue where I'm going to put the guy... but we'll figure something out.

    14. @Kykycik I am sure there was an SD13/SDGr revival body comparison in the previous thread, I can't remember who posted it though, but worth having a look through there. I think it was reasonably recent, so maybe work through it backwards?

@Brightfires I hope you might share a pic when he is home? Congrats :)

@Khell Thank you, look forward to seeing them both ^^ Enjoy your holiday!

    15. I wondered if Volks would return to one of their own story lines, or do something else for the December Dolpa. An SD16 girl would look good in the uniform! :3nodding:

    16. Just saw the news on FB! I'm really excited. Rose Of Versailles has always been one of my favorites and Lady Oscar is one of the best female characters ever written. I'm really hoping for a SD16 girl for Oscar too. Can't wait. :aheartbea

      • x 2
    17. I always thought the Lucas/Chris/Ernest/Theodore/Masha/Sasha/Kaelin and Irvin looked like Lady Oscar's art style

Lady Oscar is definitely being made, but I also hope for andre grandier in sd17 :eusa_pray also.. the blue version of their military costumes :love

    18. A Rose of Versailles doll? Well, if it's Lady Oscar, I better start saving money ...

    19. Yes, yes it is. So much good stuff!

      Congrats on the Cecile!

    20. Omg Rose of the Versailles! I’d love a Marie Antionette! SD10 would be ideal for me but I’m sure she won’t be that. I wonder if the Best Selection will come out then too. My wallet is going to DIE!

    21. I hope they create new sculpts for this instead of reusing previous ones. :)

      • x 2
    22. Oooh! I'm so excited for obviously Lady Oscar and Antionette, but maybe they'll make Rosalie too! <3 Really excited for the dress designs and detail

    23. OMG!!!! Lady Oscar? that will be a "Must-Have" for me!

Quick question, has anyone been experiencing delay in receiving parcel from Japan? my sal package from mandarake has been in "origin post is preparing shipment" since 8/8...:(

    24. I've had a package from Dollyteria/Closet Child go missing--it was sent July 13th, went into customs in Chicago, then disappeared. Dollyteria had to open an inquiry on their end. Still not sure what has happened to it, but since I asked for insurance, they said I'll get a refund if the post office can't find the package. (It was a Volks SDMidi F-18). Never had a doll disappear in the mail like this! The USPS has been weird lately--things are taking longer.

    25. Me:
"Yes finally! I have my grail Masamune and the other couple dolls I wanted. I can settle now. I don't need any more dolls. Not like anyone is going to make another Masamune or anything!"
      Volks:
      "*barges in* hold my sake"

(I don't know whether I should be excited or terrified at the Sendai 2 announcement. Because... I'm going to have to refresh like crazy for Date ver. 2 now... oh no...lol.)

    26. Hi! Anyone here have sd13 F-16 Head .. ?
Please, may b some advice which company and size eyes is good for him?
Perfectly Looking for resin eyes, with smaller iris (for realistic look)..
      And thanks for any help..)

    27. Something similar happened to me. I contacted the USPS and gave them a description of the box, and it turned up in the Dead Mail Office. Turned out, the label had fallen off. I did eventually receive it.

    28. Can anybody tell me please are there any Volks (or just BJD in general) dealers in New York City?:abow:
      Thank you!

    29. Volks has no dealers and their only US location is in LA.
I don’t think there are any BJD dealers in New York.

    30. No physical BJD store at all in the city with a population of 8 million? It is very disappointed ...:(

    31. The F16 is a slightly older boy, so he was made to wear bigger eyes - I'm pretty sure that 18mm is the recommended size. If you want smaller irises, it's probably best to look for what's called 18/9 eyes - 18mm eyes with a 9mm iris, as opposed to the usual, larger iris.

I'm not very good with specific companies, though!

    32. @Kykycik You could try Soul in a Box on etsy? They have lovely realistic eyes that you can order in 18/9 eyes as suggested by Gallye. I love them for my Coco (although, normal Iris size here).

    33. so do Y!J :thumbup This summer I got dolls and dolls, almost F-01 :chomp:

    34. I tried 16mm eyes in Brooke, my F-16, and they just didn't work. Even the low-dome oval flat-backs didn't sit quite right. I ended up sticking with 18mm eyes from Doll Bakery.

In other news... Mister Cecile has arrived! :dance

(just a quick and messy picture, since the smoke and crud in the air outside is making my sinuses evil. <_< )

I wasn't sure from Mandarake's little pictures who might have painted this fellow. He didn't come with his information card, so I'm still not 100% sure... But comparing him with a couple of the other one-offs in the gang, I'm *almost* convinced that he has to be one of Saifa's. He has a lot of similarities to the way Shimon, Edmund and Artemis are painted. Kinoko was my other thought, but seeing the brows in-person, they're not done in the same way Gyre or Octavian's are done.

      He is A Mystery. XD

    35. Interesting ... I thought she might have been DD but it does say Super Dollfie. It will be interesting to see if she is released at Dolpa or as a preorder like Black Jack. Curious to know where the best of selection is going to fit into this or if it will fit into this....? I wonder if they will just release one character or multiple? More questions than answers .... :sweat

    36. Heya, I am looking to get SD Nico, but I've never ordered directly from Volks before and their international website isn't very clear on things so I thought I'd ask here!

      1. How long is the wait time (roughly)? I do want to get both Sato-gaeri options which I know extends wait times by a month.
      2. Do you know how long the three standard models (Nico, Mel, Mai) will be available for? It says they came out in September 2017.
      3. What do they mean by '*We do not ship Owner-Limited Item overseas.'? It says standard dolls come with 'Order Form for Owner-Limited Item'.
      4. The three SD girls come with a one-piece torso, yes? I really love the look of it.
      5. Do SD10/SD13 girls share clothes? Some shops do not have just SD or SD10 section but rather SD13.

Thank you so much and sorry for all the quesitons, I've never owned an SD sized doll before!

    37. Nico is super cute - congrats! I had one for awhile she just didn’t work out here.

      1. The standards are in stock so the average time from order to shipping is about a week. Adding services will extend that by the time listed.

      2. At this time Volks hasn’t announced their discontinuation so honestly no one knows. Volks usually keeps standards around for a few years but there is no guarantee on that. They do go out of stock and it can take awhile for them to restock.

      3. Nico will ship with an optional hands order form but the form cannot be used by buyers outside Japan.

      4. They do come with the one piece torso. Unlike previous standard SD girls, these three also come with double-jointed elbows.

      5. SD10 and SD13 girls can share most things unless it is very fitted around the waist or chest.

      • x 2
    38. @eleniel Thank you so much for the quick response! Knowing it won't take so long for her to arrive and that the form is just for optional hands is such a relief, I'm so used to long wait times with other companies.

Another question, if I may, the sato-gaeri whole body coating is a protective UV layer? Do the dolls go to Kyoto for it, hence the additional month of waiting?

      Thank you!

    39. It IS done in Kyoto, but your girl will ship from Kyoto even if you don't get the additional services. She doesn't actually 'go to Kyoto' for it - she's already there.
And the whole body coating is UV protective, but Volks uses resin with a UV protect additive already and they have one of the most stable resins I've ever dealt with - I wouldn't leave my dolls on the beach in the sun for the day, but after years of being hauled on trips and tons of outdoor photos, my older UV protect Volks dolls are still pretty similar to new in color - they do yellow, but it's less a yellow tone and more just a mellowing.
I can try to get a photo in a bit - I have a new Volks girl (SDM) that arrived not long ago, wearing a pair of hands that are a couple years older that have been used on other dolls. There IS a difference, but not enough to cause issues.

    40. Thank you, @eleniel! Things are a bit clearer now, some details about the Volks ordering process can be a tad confusing, haha. I'm pretty set on Nico, but Mai is calling to me as well...

Edit: Just as I posted this reply, low stock alert on Mai! I better decide soon...

    41. They are both super cute (also Mel is a lot cuter in owner photos than on the website, just saying).
I think there is a Mai or two floating around DoA so you can check for owner pics.
I'm not sure how many Nicos there are, but Nico is the SD version of the mini F-29 (so finding photos of either Nico or mini F-29 will give you owner pics).

      • x 1
    42. Volks actually confirmed that Nico and the mini F-29 are the same sculpt (one is just sized up and has permanent ears).
Mini f-29 is my favorite FCS sculpt so I’m not at all shocked that I like Nico so much.

    43. All of them are cute! I like them all, I originally wanted either Coco or Saki, but I didn't have the space for an SD doll. Now that we're in a bigger house, it's doll time! Funnily enough, Coco is a unit in our household (1 Coco is worth about £500-600) after my husband and I watched the box opening of a DoA member who ordered six Cocos. Lots of things get measured in 'How many Cocos is that?'.

    44. I had a question regarding the upcoming sale of Date ver 2 and Hasekura ver 2- it says in the email, "Super Dollfie® will be available on a "First Come, First Serve" basis."

I know they said they would be giving more information soon, but since they go up for sale Sept 1, I was wondering if any of you might know from prior experience whether or not Volks allows it as more than one payment or if the payment must be 100% all up front once the boys go up for sale? Was hoping to have some sort of idea of affordability and how much I need to budget for ahead of time. :> Two payments would be ideal (like one up front and one right before shipment) but I have a feeling that Volks would just want the payment 100% up front.
Never done this before, so sorry if it's something that's considered common knowledge >< All my boys are second hand sans my RD Judge.

    45. @Arvis Payment is 100% upfront.

      • x 1
    46. @Cloudedmind thanks! Figured that's what it would have to be. :>

    47. @Arvis yep all upfront and it'll be a clickwar style release rather than a lottery.

      • x 1
    48. @eleniel Thank you! Have they done it like this before? Do the dolls usually sell out lightning-quick (as in, should I make sure to be ready to go right as soon as orders open)? The term "clickwar style" makes me nervous because I would like to make sure to get him, but the order window is ten days long... ^^" But this is all new to me so I would like to go in as informed as possible, to minimize chances of disappointment.

    49. Sometimes they are still available at the end, sometimes they are gone within minutes - it really just depends on the popularity of the sculpt and the quantity Volks has allocated for the release - both of which are difficult if not impossible to guess at. Yes there is a ten day window, but it is a ten days OR until sold out type situation (as opposed to a no-quantity limit but time limit like you'd get with a Soom monthly doll, for example).
If you for-sure want to get him, I'd recommend putting your order in as soon as you can do so. Also be prepared for website crashing and items falling out of your cart during checkout - if the release is super popular the website won't be able to handle the traffic and you'll get super slow loading periods, crashes, etc. I'd suggest logging in before the event begins so you don't have to log in afterwards.

Additionally, the Volks USA shopping cart does NOT save/hold items so just having something in your cart doesn't guarantee that you'll get it. Popular items can and do sell out while would-be buyers are putting in their payment information or trying to check out. It's super frustrating and it'd be great if Volks would fix that but they are aware of the issue and have chosen not to do anything about it.
If you want to add both boys, I'd suggest having a separate tab/page open for each of them and just hitting 'add to cart' on each separate page and then check out. If they are really popular, they could both sell out before you got the second added to the cart.

The clickwars are frustrating, but can also be fun and gratifying as you aren't left waiting for a week or more to find out if you got anything (for example, one of my friends put in for a Volks outfit lottery and only got the socks... so she gets to pay shipping for socks.)

I hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

    50. Does anyone have 14mm eyes in either Williams or Amakusa and can post photos?
I "accidentally" bought a pair of 14mm's and wanted to see before they arrived if they'd fit in either or if I need to change some plans.

    51. Click war? Oops. ☺️ So, is it 12am Sept 1st? I have not read the details. It might also be wise to try and buy something from Volks store in case my credit card won’t work. It happened before.

    52. It’ll be at whatever time Volks advertises the release as being at - usually 11 am pacific time (where the store is located).

    53. Um complete newb question wrt Volks and Mandarake. The price range seems to vary in the extreme from several hundred thousand yen down to at the lowest end, 25,000 for a full doll and about 15,000 yen for a head. (Though there's 'junk' heads listed for lower.)

I'm guessing this has to do with age, rarity, condition of company fullset/face-up?

So for instance, there's two F-17 heads on Mandarake right now, one's 30,000 yen the other 15,000 and I honestly can't tell what accounts for the difference? (I completely lack the background to know if either of those prices are shockingly low/high/even expected.)

    54. @Vetinari I dont believe there is any strict pricing rules that we can deduce from Mandarake, but I do think that the price of a doll/item is decided by the store location of the item. In addition to being sold online, each item is also sold at the physical store location, listed on the sales page.

I think in regards to the two F-17, the cheaper one is sold at Fukuoka location, listes as whiteskin and noted as "yellow" but the other one is normal skin, sold at Sahra and priced by Sahra staff.

    55. Ah thanks! So pretty much play it by ear/decide with a bit more research. Even with Mandarake's excellent rep, if I do eventually pick something up, I'm already avoiding the dolls without their head-plates.

Huh thanks! I admit thought the yellow on the mebbe-WS was the face-up being a bit dark.

(Lately I've had a bit of a hankering for a more 'old fashioned' sculpt to join my group... And some of the Volks dolls floating about on Mandarake really fit that aesthetic though it'll likely be a ways away given my recent doll expenditures... :doh)
