@Ebony Rain Hey there! I know what you are talking about. My Una was crazy floppy when I unpacked her- it just happens over time on occasion. If your doll does become floppy (and the elastic isn't worn out) simply readjust the tension using the zip tie located in/near the hook in the head. It's very simple and it'll help tremendously.

I also agree with @ruskyles (grats on your beautiful new girl btw!) that kips help too. Adding one in when you switch heads would be a great idea!

@Melaidhrin Congrats on your big purchase and good luck with the restringing. I am always so impressed with people who are good at it and intimidating by the entire process. I am sure it will go smoothly, though, and that you will have fantastic results! Please send us more pictures of your gorgeous boy when you have time?

 

Yeah, I'm pretty decent at restringing my single jointed bodies (still hate doing it!) but I've been dreading the day I'd have to tackle my SD17. Maybe it's karma for keeping the dolls in the closet for 2.5 years, lol.

 

Thank you for your help everyone, I am currently trying to decide which body to put my Coco on.
It's either going to be the SDGr body, SD13 or a hybrid option, but I haven't seen much about her on the SD13 body.
Does anyone have her on either? The SD10 body is precious but I just want to upgrade her for more clothing options and to be a bit taller and more poseable. I know the SD13 isn't much different, but I'm just curious how she will look. I will most likely go with the SDGr.

@sephyelysian YAY! Congrats on the new body. Those SDGr bodies are pretty difficult to come by and any time you get a good one that perfects your character- that's cause for celebration for sure! Hypatia is mysterious, beautiful and perhaps even a little mischievous... or whatever the lighter side of devious is? You can tell she definitely has some plans. I love characters with depth, diversity and plans...

Adding my own to the mix- just a candid photo while in the middle of styling my new Volks FCS F-26. No name yet but I am really in love with her. Volks didn't disappoint with their face-up selection. She's exactly as I thought she would be. (Also worth the extra $$ for all the sueding and sanding- the only downside is now I want to suede everything. ALL THE DOLLS.)

I was actually thinking about my June FCS Order and a moment ago, low and behold, I received a "Your order has been completed," e-mail from Volks USA. So excited! Not sure if he arrived from Japan or he is on his way from Japan to Volks USA? It does not say anything about being shipped, just a copy of my original invoice that says order number completed! Talk about a tease!

*Update* Whoops! It looks like there is a pre-shipment tracking number on the invoice!

 

@nakitaninja Haha! Thank you. I am so happy I caved. I was trying to be good but I couldn't resist. It makes photos like this much more fun. I feel like it really captures the SDGr's fluidity of movement really well. Also, thank you for your kind words about Hypatia. I do love dolls with intensity.

Also, your girl is killing me. Her face up is so perfect. I think F-26 makes a perfect mature lady! I can't wait to see what you do with her.

If you *almost* like Tomoyo but not quite, what about Tamayo? It's a little old-fashioned these days, I believe, but I always think it's such a pretty, traditional Japanese name. And those "aaaah" sounds make your mouth open like a smile when you say it out loud!

@nakitaninja Thank you! I'm glad you like him. Michele has been a grail of mine for a long time. I was finally able to bring him home this year so I feel very lucky. He's wearing the shirt from Tae's Lovely Dress outfit. I just put plain jeans on him for now until I can get him a more fitting outfit. ^_^ He's so cute but really petite. Most of the clothes I own are for SD13/17 boys so they all look extra baggy on the SD10 body. I really like the height difference when I pose him with my taller boys though.

Congrats on your new girl. She looks so elegant. I can't wait to see what you'll do with her. Do you have a name in mind yet?

 

@purplepaws Oh! No names yet- I am working on it. I thought she'd look like more of a b*tch to be honest and I was looking forward to welcoming this Ojou-sama character... she's actually kind of sleepy and sweet! I am really pleased but it also threw off my naming process too? She's definitely mysterious and the F-26 does work really well on the SD16. That body is so heavy and lovely!

@nikittin I loved all the pics! I think Liz Taylor had to be my favorite, though- they look so natural together! thank you for linking the thread, it was truly a delight to look through all of them.

@sephyelysian You know if I could have every doll on an SDGr, I probably would. It's just a fantastic body and Volks will be hard pressed to ever top it, I think? I cannot wait to see even more of your beautiful photo shoots!

@sailorchiron I really love your naming choice! If if doesn't seem to work you could always try Tomoko? I'm also a pretty big fan of the name Kyoko... not that it suits your purposes but I'll throw it out there~

@jesymphony Oh, thank you! I really love her face-up too and now i just have to figure out her wig situation so she doesn't have to beg, borrow and steal from my other girls. She needs a black wig, I think? I absolutely love following lolita culture- I think it is absolutely one of the most interesting and beautiful forms of self expression in fashion.

@nakitaninja I love your girl! Ugh the sculpt is so so so beautiful. I fight my desire to get her because I have a "serious eyed" Tohya girl and I'm trying to go with variety in my small collection. Your doll makes me question my reasoning.

I just complete Laine's full make over and he wants to drop in to say "hai". He's no longer a twin red head with Hallow and I'm so happy with his new look. I painted his face and made the sweater (still working on the pants). Also cut and styled the wig. Here's Laine.

I'm going to have to do some dollie shopping (I seem to have lost my string puller.). :\ I suppose I should wait and see how I like the zouks my F48 will come with, but my preference usually leans towards urethane eyes. Can't decide if I want her to have 16mm or 18mm, though. I already know I'm going to be going on a etsy shopping spree for clothes very soon. By the time my girl arrives in October/November she'll have smorgasbord of goodies waiting. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Personally, I left my Coco on an SD10 because it's my favourite girl body but I love the SDGr also. I haven't tried her on an SD13. However she is also quite cute on a DearSD (43cm) body.

 

@pris84 I really like your Coco. I was wondering is this sculpt could look older without adding darker make up. Your girl really has a more mature look with natural blushing and the SDgr body. Beautiful Coco.

 

Now that you mention it, she does give off a bitchy aura. She's gorgeous nevertheless. I also think the mature SD16 body suits her face really well. She reminds me of Yūko from xxxHolic in that yukata.

@Isenn Laine looks so beautiful. May I ask what kind of eyes he's wearing? I love the color and they look so realistic.

 

@Isenn Love, love, love your boys new look. You did fantastic on hi make up as well. Lucai sculpts with white color themes are definitely my favorite. And I wish I could modify wigs as well as you have here. Every time I try it's a huge falure haha.

I recently updated my Irvin to a white wig and eyes and am enjoying the look so far, even if the bangs are a bit too long

@purplepaws those are old Mystic eyes. I bought them second hand on DOA in 2009. I think the color was "fog". They fit Laine's eye wells so perfectly that they instantly became exclusively his eyes. He shares with no one.

@revien I so adore Irvin. He is beautiful. Ugh that sculpt is great from every angle. I love the contrast of Irvin's skin with the white wig. As for the cut on my wig, I took my doll to my hair dresser for tips on how to cut. She snipped a bit to demonstrate and I copied her. That helped me a bunch.

 

@sailorchiron, your girl is cute. I hope the name dilemma resolves itself soon!

@nakitaninja, Thank you so much! The SDGr is so pretty though I am torn between whether it or the newer SD16 bodies are my favorite. Both are so elegant.

Also, your girl. She's killing me. She looks so perfect in her kimono. F-26 is the perfect, mysterious older lady.

@rainwaltz, thank you! I seriously think it's years of looking at your beautiful girls that finally brought me to the Volks fold.

@Isenn, Laine's transformation is amazing. I really love the cooler tones of his face up. He looks so pretty in his soft sweater!

@pris84, your Coco is really lovely. We tried Coco on a more mature body when we had her but in the end, I think we decided, as you did, that she felt more suited to the SD10.

@revien, your Irvin looks so sleek in that silver wig! It works perfectly with his skin tone.

 

Thanks @Isenn !! I really love the SDGr girl. I only have the one so far (SDGr Belle) but I was very tempted to keep Coco on the SDGr. I think the proportions are lovely. I think Coco is like Charlotte in the way that she looks good on any Volks body.

@sephyelysian I'm a big fan of the SD10 body also. Love the SDGr also but the SD10 is just so cute. I could probably have an army of SD10.

She's been repainted by SDink. I asked her to paint a Coco very different than the default ones and I think she did an amazing job!

BTW, for all of you who are interested in FCS, Volks will be releasing a FCS handbook (108 pages) on August 27. Written in Japanese but I think the photos alone are worth it!

It should be available on the Volks international website after August 27. I'm not sure if it will make it to the VolksUSA website.

 

Oh I want that book. Our of curiosity, are there no longer FCS ordering services? I so want a Sato only mold but I'm assuming I'll need to wait until my trip next year and ask a friend if I can use her Japan address.

 

I think there's someone on in the hosted orders thread that does FCS for people.

 

I have what might be a really dumb question: Whenever I see an older sculpts, they are always in normal skin. Has the white skin always been an option from the very first molds, or is this something that was offered later?

Not a dumb question at all -- thanks for giving me an incentive to look this up! Per Angelden, white skin was available as early as 2000, with two LE girls, a Megu and a Nono: Where Angels Lie - A Super Dollfie Database - SD. SD Licht and Leona were released in 2001, and then Chris 1st was the first BW SD13 boy, in 2002 -- more limited editions. So white skin was always rarer than NS!

 

@orphansparrow Ah, thank you so much for your kind words! I've always, always loved the F-26. I like her so much in this outfit that I am having trouble envisioning her in anything else! *facepalm* I need to find more SD16 kimonos because that's been my favorite thing to see them in thus far. The bulk of the fabric helps lessen the sexiness of the fashion doll frame? Not that anything needs to be "lessened" per se- but I like the look!

@kittycrash You know that's a great question! I don't have the complete answer, I am sure someone on here will, but in the meantime here's a link to the Angel Den where they list this LE Megu released in 2000 as the first doll in white skin! I hope it helps- at least until we hear something back from someone who's been in the hobby longer.

 

Cynthia in FlintHills and nakitaninja, you guys are awesome! I'm still fairly new to the hobby, so my Volks knowledge is very limited. Right now I'm working on an old F-05 head (yellowed ns), and I've got a SD13 body in the mail that should be a nice resin match. Can't wait to get her all together!

You know I've discovered you can be in the hobby for years and due to the vast breadth of Volks information I still consider my knowledge very limited when compared with the people on this forum/thread. Luckily there's people like @Cynthia in FlintHills who can help fill in the details! Angel Den is also a really fantastic resource that, though out of date, provides a wonder glimpse into the history of Volks. It's just fun to go through the entire site for fun!

It... uhm... It may have taken awhile to settle on what length and color he was going to end up with.

Like... "close to two years"-level awhile.

I had no idea he'd end up looking best in chocolate brown. I swear. The poor guy's had on everything from black to white to screaming-bright teal blue since I got him, but somehow... I'd just never tried brown.

It's always the last one you try, I guess.

 

I know exactly what you mean. I prefer the "lessened sexy" look on obviously sexy dolls.

A lot of the FCS sculpts seem to be pretty rare birds... I don't know of that's because there just aren't many of them around in general, or if they aren't as common as some of the limited and standards in people collections here on DoA, or what. But, you're right. There are some that don't pop up very often.

 

I will! I'm still trying to decide if I want to go a more anime-esq direction with her, or keep with the standard faceup. We will see!

 

I have an F19 in Sunlight I ordered from the LA Sumika in 2006. I really need to play with him more and take some new pics of him.

F-31s are Love. I really, really need to take some new pictures of Crow (my NS F-31 guy). It's been a dog's age since I had him out in front of a camera.

He'll never be as graceful as your Gyokutei, though. My guy's too much of a grump for glamor. XD

I didn't have a choice about liking F-19s... The first time I saw one (A fellow named Reggie, who belonged to one of the locals-), I thought he looked like a Shiwoo would have if Shiwoos had been sculpted by Volks instead of CP. It's that squirrel-cheeked-guys-with-big-eyes thing, I guess.

 

So cute! His eyes are beautiful and that Tae outfit has always been one of my favourites ^^

Just curious … did anyone else have problems checking out of the Volks International website today for AE items? I couldn't complete the transaction but when I checked my Visa online I had like 3 identical charges. And when I checked the Volks My Page in my order section, there was no order. I've emailed Volks about the situation. Just curious if anyone else had problems?

 

The page has been completely down when I tried to order- got all my items and then didn't even get through to payment. 502 errors and no word from Volks on FB or Twitter as to what is going on! Predictable? You can't see their website now, can you?



Sorry to hear about the bonus charges though... that is a pain to deal with! Maybe that is why the site is completely offline at the moment- they have to sort out what the heck happened?

It came back for a minute about ten minutes after the AE opened, but I wasn't able to finish checking out. At this point I may just wait until they put the lottery on the Volks USA site. Their FB page that they expected to have the lottery in a couple of months.

Speaking of Volks USA, I received my lottery result notification a little while ago.

Hello! Does anyone here happen to have photos of Syo/Show with eyes of varying sizes? I think 18mm works on him but am curious to see them in photos. Larger than that would be fine too. Any help would be appreciated.

@nakitaninja thank you! I'm so excited I could explode! I actually entered the lottery just so my boyfriend would have a second shot at him and we BOTH won! And I've been trying not to look at him too much during the waiting time on the lottery because I didn't want to get attached, but now that I know I'm getting one I've fallen totally in love with him. it's gonna be so great having near-twinsies with my boyfriend lol!

Does anyone know what size wig Kiriko takes, though? I'm assuming 8-9, but I wanna get a wig custom made for him so I gotta know for sure lol
