Dollshe Discussion - Part Sixteen

Mar 1, 2020

    1. Hey everyone,
I read like..10 pages back and I was really excited about this sale and to finally get my Grail doll of Bernard after years of waiting...but these horror stories, eesh.

Has anyone had a positive experience buying direct at all?

      Should I give up?

No other sculpt will work for the character I've had for half my life at this point, and this steal just sounds like my only chance for one of these guys.

    2. If he's your grail and you're willing to put up with the potential of a 13+ month wait, go for it
You're the only one who's gonna know if it's a wait you can deal with and if the price makes it worth it to you

    3. @vvnem - She's gorgeous! :D Gold eyes look amazing with her skin tone.

    4. @IndigoFrogs The sale is a great price and if you need a specific colour, then it's probably your best option. But you will wait. And wait. And wait. I've purchased direct from Dollshe twice. The first was during one of his infamous "discontinuation" sales. I bought Wu-Tyr's head (Orijean) and received it within a week because the head was in stock. The second time was his body and was during another sale where Dollshe was only making a certain number of pieces and stated delivery of 2 months. I waited nearly 5 for just a body in pure oriental. My last order (which I cancelled after +18 months of waiting) was for a 55cm Saint in honey espresso ebony. I cancelled because of the amount of time I'd been waiting as well as the fact that I'd been lied to repeatedly about when my doll would be done because by the time I cancelled, the doll hadn't even moved past the prototype stage.

I've recently purchased Akusuo, a honey mango Hound, from the MP and I'm very happy with my purchase. Dollshe makes wonderful dolls but the wait times have gotten to be even more brutal. If you're fine with waiting a VERY long time, go for.

    5. I'm waiting on some correct eyes but definetly think the gold and black combo go so well with this purplish grey she has going on.

    6. I'm really tempted to get Diana in the current sale but I'm not sure what skin I want her in. I really want to see what the honey skins are like but I want her in a darker color and I fear that might slow down production even more...

    8. I'd say just buy though Bjdivas so you don't have to worry about communicating directly with dollshe. The price is good, and if you've already been waiting years, one more with the assurance that he will eventually get to you may not feel like too long.

    9. Does anyone know who did the faceup for the Diana doll on the Dollshe site?

    11. OH thanks so much...:) She is just lovely.

    12. She is! Her face up is one of the reasons I fell in love with Diana. I usually hate waiting for dolls, but she’ll be worth it.

    13. Well here's hoping the wait....won't be...too long by Dollshe standards. :)

    15. Hi long time guys!!! same boat here, does anyone know the promo photo skin color for Diana i am torn, i thought i wanted light tan but it's too dark, what would the 1 step lighter to that be in your opinions? i also wanted the smaller doll but fear it would either not look the same or be too small

    16. Sending best wishes to those biting the bullet for the Long Haul. I'd be so torn about it!

Made some makeshift seating today. Dollshes sit pretty tall, it seems...

    17. My girl finally got her eyes in! 8mm eyes with 0.31 iris. Don't mind her wigless appearance I am currently fixing her wig since the top looked so bad.

    18. Quick question for anyone who might know; does Dollshe copper oriental matche Miracledoll tan/sunshine?

I was looking to hybrid my Ausley onto a different style of body, and while Miracledoll body is lovely, I do not believe they do resin match of any kind.

    19. If you need matching, both RS and Impl do it for a very reasonable fee. I ordered a custom green doll from Impl and the custom colour fee was $60. I have contacted RS about matching for a head I have and their matching fee is $20 (I can't order the body yet as the Corona virus has shut them down and they asked me to wait to place the order until they're up and running again).

Impl also has a new style girl body with a lot of movement/posing ability in the shoulders/neck (possibly hip and other joints, too). I can't say from personal experience how this body moves as I don't collect girls but people who have ordered this body are very pleased with it according to the comments in the Impl thread.

    20. Hi guys! I have a problem I would like to discuss, I have a Dollshe Khan in Copper oriental Pure skin, he is just amazing, but, I would love to get a pair of jointed hands for him. My friend lended me her Idealian hands this weekend and I tried them on him. I have tried to get used to them, but, it just feels too small. Now I'm thinking of Spiritdoll Herculean hands for him? I can't find much when I google for information. does anyone have any helpful information for me? :eusa_pray

    21. What a lovely picture! Where did you get the beautiful dress for Amanda?

    22. Thanks! It's an Iplehouse SID dress...………...Amanda is on the DT17 body and the dress is a little big in the bust, but oh well, lol!

    23. just gorgeous, what detailed clothes and styling, kudos!

    24. hello everyone! finally took the plunge and started a layaway for my first Dollshe order! i've put an 18m Mystic boy body in Copper Oriental on layaway through BJDivas :-) i'm hybriding him with my Pygmalion Eita in warm ivory. he'll be my first 70cm boy!

    25. @taichas Congrats and welcome to the big wait with us. I have an Eita I swap on my oriental Arsene body. Also Han and Chen. I started buying 70 cm dolls last year.

    26. welcome @taichas! i'm waiting for Grant & David in the 70cm size, going to be forever, but that's okay, it's worth it :)

ooh Rainn <3 @SteamWitch i always love seeing your pub and denizens thereof ! that dragon in the background! and who is passed out on the bar behind him? i see a ginger mop of hair... or are they just sitting down behind the stools? haha

      • x 1
    27. I bought Eita thinking I might be able to stick him on a 60-65cm body :sweat I was a little nervous and apprehensive about buying a 70cm body for him when I found out 60cm wouldn't look right. I love him too much to give up on him just because I needed to compromise and get a bigger body though!. I'm looking forward to handling a 70cm for the first time, but I don't think he will be travelling to meetups or conventions very often haha!

    28. I was worried about my wrists and arthritis when I started. But I don't seem to have any problem with Dollshe bodies or Fifth Motif. My Iplehouse EID is quite heavy in comparison.

Eita is well worth a body that is compatible!

      • x 2
    29. I don't find my Dollshe boys (pure bodies) as heavy as Khale (Leeke 68cm muscle body). I think they're also lighter than my 64cm Unidoll guys, who are heavy, solid pieces of resin.

      • x 1
    30. I agree and that's good to know-- I have arthtitis and carpal tunnel!

hello fellow unidoll owner! i own a unidoll tiny :XD: i also think her resin is a little more solid and heavy than the resin of my 60cm miro hybrid. perhaps it's because they're older and the process of making them was different?

    31. I agree the Dollshe bodies are lighter than most of their size range counterparts.

Thank you! The dragon is a figure from Dragonball Z, I just loved this one without the color, it looks like carved ivory, so I got it. That redhead would be Kise's friend Taran. He and Kise (purple mop of hair) are sitting at a table much lower than the bar. :whee:

      • x 1
    32. @taichas Perhaps. Some of my older vintage guys (over 10 years old) have thicker resin so I'd cautiously say it may have been the way they did things back in the day. Dolls have changed a LOT over the years from styles, colours, type of resin and jointing not to mention the sizes available. My Unidolls are Edenlei (UH-08 Elf) and Kathiel (Ark). Kathiel took me 7 years to acquire.

And to be OT for this thread.... I'm still waiting on poor Akusuo's (honey mango Hound) default wig. I'm super glad that I bought him a temp wig at the local doll shop because with the stoppage of packages at the border here in Canada, it's anyone's guess when his real wig will appear. But the temp wig is a temp wig and not him *sigh*. He wasn't wowed by the outfit I bought for him during the recent Luts sale either. He didn't fight me to get it on but he clearly was only doing it to humour me.

    33. @SteamWitch - i blew up the picture really big and can see the little numbered balls from DBZ - that's freaking hilarious, and you're right it really does look like bone or ivory :XD:. i love the look on Rainn's face because of the closed eye modelling, sort of introspective and sweet. like they are thinking of someone special.

@Iron_Dog - what colour wig did you choose for the honey mango skin tone?

    34. @Grimalkin It's a long medium brown wavy wig with random white and black braids in it. His temp wig is medium brown with sandy blonde. He kind of looks like Yohji from Weiss in it.

      • x 1
    35. ^^ :chibi can't wait to see the one with braids, you'll share pic with us when you can, yes?

    36. Absolutely. The wig is by Punkmomo and it also comes in white if anybody is interested.

    37. ooooh! i think i know the one! :abambi:

    38. I almost bought the white one at one point for one of my other guys but he wasn't feeling the love for it for himself (his wig is a different one currently on order through another dealer). I really hope that the one I get will be the one with the darker coloured brown shown in the promo pics. Weirdly enough, there wasn't a colour selection for dark/light brown and the difference in the two suggests to me that it's more than just lighting/monitor settings.

    39. the model they use for the white version (D-15?), it's hnngnh. your Hound is gonna look spectacular in it. Hound indeed

    40. Definitely a bummer that mail has halted here. Praying to the gods as we speak..

    41. So far for us, it's only international packages that are a no-go. Mail sent from a Canadian address to a Canadian address is still moving. I'm very happy about that as I've got 2 heads coming home from the face-up artist who is a fellow Canuck (I'm supposed to receive them by end of business Tuesday).

    42. @Iron_Dog Just curious because a package of mine just arrived in San Francisco from BC, CA. Are your international packages supposed to be stopping or are they delayed?

    43. Hmmm, that's strange (but yea! for you). The CANPost website has a very long list of places that it's not receiving packages from right now but the US is not on the list (yet). For the curious, this is the link of places that Canada is not accepting packages from as of March 27, 2020: Delivery service disruptions | Our company | Canada Post

    44. Looks like they are not accepting packages to be shipped out to those countries (USA not one of them). But they are accepting international packages.

The wording is confusing ("accepting"= "accepting at Canadian Post Offices").

    45. Hi h! Well,I decided to take the plunge... i have Rey Lewis, Saint and Erica Snow, on the longest layaway possible (as per BJDivas). This would be my first time ordering through Dollshe, so hopefully the long layaway helps me cope with the wait!

    46. I took one of my many decommissioned Saint heads and he got on the crazy train. I'm not sure if he is a victim or a perpetrator, but he is strange. Sometimes I worry about my brain. ;)

    47. Is there anyone here who owns a honey skin doll and would like to express an opinion? I swore on all that was holy that I would never jump on the Dollshe crazy train again, but I've be wanting Arsene for the longest time...and at the ridiculous sales price that I have tried to ignore for months, I realized that I don't really care if he takes two years to get here. I have patience and a ton of dolls, so no big deal. He'll be a wonderful surprise if/when he arrives. But...I've only seen pure skin, and I don't know if the extra cost for honey peach is really worth it. Anyone want to share pics or just weigh in...?

    48. Imo, honey skins are totally worth it. I don't have any good pictures that'd do it justice. Fair warning, it is translucent resin, so if you dislike that kind of resin, it probably isn't for you. However, I almost feel like it's wrong to put it in the same category as other companies' translucent/imported resins, because it's just heavenly. It's so silky smooth and feels luxurious, and the way that the light comes through it is just like how real skin behaves. I honestly can't say enough good things about it.

    49. unbelievable resin. stronger, more uv resistent, takes paint like a dream. feels more organic, but some people dont like it. to me, its a bit like soapstone which is nice to carve. jade-like but softer. I have many honeys. look at my link to Ariel Et Al photo blog. come to think of it, its a bit like jade. + you can sand any color deep as you like.

    50. @sno4wy & @petiteballerine Thanks! I've been really curious, because I own nothing like it - so I thought that as a collector, it might be worth having at least one. Good to know that it's a rich and smooth texture, and it certainly looks lovely in photos. I think that I must give it a try!

    51. how do you all feel abut face ups/blushing on the honey skin? does it behave differently?
i confess i'm looking at one of the other boys myself... and i need that like a hole in my head...
      :chomp::chomp::chomp::chomp::chomp: :doh

    52. I, for one, really dislike Honey resin.
I never got around painting the girl I briefly had so I can't comment about how faceups take, but I find that lighter skin tones have a weird unnatural glow to them and it makes their feature less distinct. it's too translucent to look natural, and the way it catches the light sort of makes them look blurry. I look back at my older pictures and it's like she barely had a nose :/
the darker skin tones seem to benefit from it though (from looking at pictures). Basically no gate/sanding marks, and with more pigment they only have a sliiiight translucence that actually looks very lovely.

Also I think Dollshe has said that he takes more time to cast the Honey resin, so keep that in mind if you are not completely sure you'll like the look :sweat

    53. thank you for sharing your experience :thumbup
have a lot of shared bodies, so i'd probably do the pale since so many of mine are white resin.
probably not worth the extra money & time then for me.
the blurry aspect is really interesting, i've noticed that in some pictures too.

    54. If you were looking to body swap with the honey, it's going to create a weird difference between the honey/non-honey. I have a Hound in honey mango (which I still say is more salted caramel than any kind of mango) as well as 2 other dolls in translucent resin (BBD & JieDoll) and the difference between them and "regular" resin is immediately noticeable. My other 2 are peach and normal respectively and I've never had a blurring issue with either one.

    55. I'm just going to drop in here to be excited for a minute if no one minds. I haven't had a new Dollshe in years (my newest is a Rhythmos body) and I got my 28M with the 97 joints last week, and because he's strung really loose, I was planning to restring him today. He has s-hooks in his feet!!! I'm so happy. I've had to find S-hooks for every single DS body I have, and I don't think I have any left big enough for a large doll....so nothing is making me happier right now than hooks in a dolls feet XD

    56. how long have you been waiting on dollshe now, i want an copper oriental
