Dollshe Discussion - Part Thirteen

I *think* what happened was that they were discontinued earlier in the year, then brought back for the 15th anniversary event that kept getting extended, and now is discontinued again. I'm not sure though because I've pretty much lost track. :\ I expect to see them come back for Christmas.

 

Well, the sale is over and everything is back up on normal sale again. Oh, apart from King Corey who is stuck in a time warp and still on sale.

 

Maybe Dollshe is confused as to what discontinued means? Some sort of translation error? Not that I mind that it seems the ones that were supposedly to be discontinued in the sale are still available.

 

What on earth is going on over in The DollShe Zone? We may never know.

 

I still don't understand the puzzle package, the full package and the ...uh...partially unpackaged package. or whatever.
nor the limited dolls that people didn't pay for.

well, until my Fashion Bermann and or fashion Khan arrives, no more Dollshe for me.

That is actually a really good point. Here, it means the end of production, no more! Ever! Maybe, the same word in Korean is the end of a period of production, which doesn't necessarily mean no other periods of production won't exist...
Anyone know Korean, and able to answer this? It would be most interesting...

I landed on this side of the Dollshe time warp and don't want to enter it again .

 

I think the only way I'd willing enter into direct purchase is for either the honey grey, honey espresso or coloured resin they offer because I have a serious weakness for those things. If Dollshe were to shrink down Orijean to a fun(fashion)-sized doll, as I'd mentioned before, I'd be so very, very doomed.

Still not sure what is going to happen with the other head atm. Trying to flesh out another character to go with Kise in the carnival scene.

 

@Iron_Dog Better start saving now because if Dollshe continues with their trend of remaking the old 18M dolls and then adding fashion size options for them...

Until he breaks the molds for these discontinued dolls, I am done buying my Dollshe dolls, unless he decides to give them away free like some sort of lottery........

 

I'm also still waiting for my Amanda head and Saint, ordered in April. I knew what to expect but even so this guy bamboozles me

Still waiting for the dolls I ordered in December. Sad thing is, they're finished sculpts that were supposed to ship in May. xD

I'm still waiting on my Saint from the October orders. One day he'll show up, at this point it's kind of just a joke.

 

That is just so not right. it's not like the Saint sculpt is a brand new one. I don't think there's much excuse for waiting nearly a year for him.

 

Hello! I have one question for several days and I hope you can help me to find the answer on it) Is it possible to put the new(Grown) Saint on DSAM 32s body? Or head is too big ? Sorry for my bad english) and sorry if I in wrong discussion)

 

Last night, as I turned off my bedroom light I heard the unmistakable thump of resin collapsing. Ragnar decided to face plant...and break off an entire finger. Ring finger on his left wine-glass-holding hand. The hand he uses to hold his axe. He was only standing on the floor, on carpet no less, and wearing boots too!

 

Oh no! I hope it was a clean break so it can be easily fixed.

 

It cracked on a slight angle, taking the entire top of a knuckle with it too. I've been told Tarzan's Grip two-part glue should help get him back together, but still. I've never had this happen to one of my dolls before and it's left me a little shaken. I've never had anything worse than a small scratch.

 

@KateWonder I hear you! Still waiting on 2 dolls from October too. I know he takes forever, and I was prepared to wait but as the year mark creeps up, I'm getting a bit impatient myself.

 

@Quiet and Insane At least you have the part that broke off (a friend lost the broken part of a finger on a bus) and can glue it back together. He'll now have one more battle scar, right? Still sucks though.

 

Both times I've had dolls break fingers it was during photos, so there's a couple of pictures where everything is going well and then an off kilter blurry panic picture. It's actually kind of funny now, several years later, but at the time I was devastated. Like @Iron_Dog said, at least you have the part that broke off and can glue it back together. And if you don't like how that looks there's always the possibility of getting a replacement hand from the company. It still sucks to have that happen and I'm sorry it did

Noooooo! Poor Ragnar, (Poor Q&I more like ) but he will wear his scar proudly as the Viking warrior that he is.

 

i ordered/switched to copper oriental on my Old 18M order around april 12/14... so it's now been 4 months. Do you guys think it's too soon to ask after his status? I'm sort of assuming that the seasonal weather will delay things considering the color. but I also don't want them to forget about my order. for whatever reason the Old 18M guys seem to slip through the cracks more than the other categories of dollshes. at least that's what it looks like, reading through past threads, etc.

 

According to the waitlist, they seem to be doing the 18Ms in somewhat chronological order. Most of the ones from March have shipped and 2 of the orders from April, so if the pattern continues then yours should be made soon. They're not going to "forget about" your order

 

well, my impression has been, going through discussion threads and waiting threads, that the dolls ship out when they ship out. Some in chronological order, but certainly not all. And not necessarily grouped with others of the same mold/category, either. I don't really think saying what I did deserves laughing at.

nevertheless, i will hold off on asking anything.

 

Uh, I wasn't laughing. :0 I know that historically Dollshe is really random, but if you look at the chunk of 18Ms on the current waitlist, the first half of them are mostly done while the second half are unfinished. Of course not all orders are on the waitlist, and not everybody on the waitlist remembers to update it, but it's still a pretty good reference.

@Iron_Dog - Yes thankfully I still have the finger (which hilariously enough looks like a certain appendage just on its own). One more battle scar or four I suppose because I've got all the 28M hands for him (hands-on-hips-pose incoming eventually). The floor really had it coming.

@Girrl - I've thankfully not taken any panic photos, as my guys usually wait until before or after I take out the camera. Maybe Ragnar just doesn't like shoes? He's fallen over twice in these boots whereas he's never fallen over on bare feet. Totally weird. I don't know if DollShe will let me buy a replacement part given they just discontinued them. Anyway, something like this was bound to happen eventually.

@Quiet and Insane Hmmm, funny you mention the boots. I had Wu-Tyr wearing boots at first and he wasn't all that steady in them and actually toppled over while wearing them. Fortunately, I managed to grab his arm as he fell (while holding Yalaren, an SD Double Ize) and did some sort of amazing swoopy dip kinda thing that prevented both of them from crashing to the hardwood floor so Wu-Tyr only thumped down relatively gently with Yalaren landing on Wu-Tyr (which was so in keeping with their characters that despite the near accident, I had a goofy smile on my face). After that, I took the boots off Wu-Tyr and he stood much more solidly without a hint of being unstable/prone to tipping over.

I still wouldn't leave him standing unattended regardless of how stable he seems because I just know Idiot Cat would wander by and rub against him and...

 

Beware of the 'next month' or 'one month' estimate.

Yes. Time is irregularly expanding and very occasionally contracting on our beloved planet Dollshe. I am curious to see if they actually manage to ship during the months they gave me as estimates.

 

I bet planet Dollshe has a day something like Venus *nodsnods*. 1 Venusian day=117 Earth days. Everything makes utter sense now when he says 1 month production.

This is great to hear! I ordered an Arsene body early May and I'm hoping to get it by Christmas.

 

Sometime last year, Dollshe redesigned their 18M line (including Saint). Reading back through their old announcements, it looks like it was primarily to add new details and to update the doll in general. It sounds like the primary motivation behind this decision was to upgrade the dolls to fit in with new bodies they were designing. Dollshe specifically said the new Bermann head would not be compatible with the old Bermann head, which implies some changes to the way the head will sit on the body.

Dollshe did not mention if this applied to Saint, however, and Bermann was mentioned specifically, by name. It could be read that Dollshe was only referring to Bermann when discussing incompatibility with old dolls, which is honestly how I figure it was meant to be read.

Shortly thereafter, Dollshe released the new 18M Mystic body, which is what all current 18M boys will arrive on as full dolls. The listed neck girth of the Mystic body is 12.5cm, and the old DSAM 32s body has a neck girth of 11cm. It's worth noting that the Pure body (for which nothing of the heads was altered) had a measurement listed as 10.5cm.

Just recently, I asked someone on Tumblr about something in regards to measurements and fitting for Dollshe bodies, and they said that sometimes the measurements on Dollshe's website were not always accurate. According to them, the neck girth I was asking about was in reality smaller than the listed girth by a centimeter.

Even so, you may need to consider some very light sanding to reduce either the girth of the neck or the socket of the head. Given that the DSAM bodies have a fitted metal bit that anchors the head onto the body, I would sand the head a bit. Also, if the sanding is less than even, it's easier to hide and easier to fix without worry.

Proportion-wise, it should look great. Even though the original height for the DSAM 32s is listed as 74cm, the heads looked great on the Pure body (which is 70cm). Given that the Mystic body is 69cm, then the heads should still look good on the Mystic body.

TL;DR: Maybe, but you may need to mod.

@Iron_Dog - Hmm interesting. Dolls are funny things sometimes. Good that you caught both of them and averted a larger disaster. I don't have to worry too much about a cat, just idiot family members.

 

I'm fairly certain Kizmet wouldn't knock them over to be an asshole. He's just very friendly and, I think, in his mind, everything deserves his loving touch. He is, however, a master wig thief and I don't trust him at all to not steal certain wigs (he thinks the mohair/real fur wigs are his toys and it's sort of a fair assumption given some of his actual cat toys).

Yalaren came to me with a repaired pinky so I'm fairly nervous if he starts to teeter. Fortunately, he's a solid stander (he's a SD), so it's generally not an issue. But as I'm sure you know, when you have two (or more) dolls close together, if one starts to list to one side, its almost a guarantee that the domino effect is going to go into full swing.

 

Ah, the "love them to death" approach.

I think it's a little funny that 2 of my best standers as big dolls (Dollshe & SD) are a couple and 2 of my less than stellar standers (DZ & Leeke) are also a couple. Makes taking pictures of the wobbly-knees ones far more harrowing than it needs to be if one of them would be better at remaining upright so he could support his partner *grumbles*.

 

@ynastix Oh, excellent! I'm glad you were able to see a picture of one of the new heads on the DSAM 32s body. Having a visual is so much better.

Hey guys! I'm stepping out of lurker mood temporarily to ask if anyone here knows if it would be possible to hybrid a Supia boy and a Dollshe 18M Pure body? I have wanted a Supia Jacob since he was released and was thinking that it would be great if he could share a body with my Dollshe Aramis, because then I would only need to get the head. Have anyone tried this combination or have any info about it? I would really appreciate it

 

I have something similar only it's Dollshe & Ringdoll that are stable and Dollshe x2 & DZ that like to fall over into a mess of limbs (get a room you three!! )

 

Technically speaking, the DZ/Leeke pairing also has a 3rd but he's less than zero help on the standing front as he's a Soom Fairy boy so didn't even mention him. Not only is he just 30cm tall, he always wears his default fairy feet so can't stand unaided period because of the shape of his feet. So if I'm photographing them together while standing, I'll also have 3 boys falling over in a heap.

 

I did some digging and found that the Supia boy body has a neck measurement of 12cm, and the 18M Mystic body has a neck measurement listed as 12.5cm (though I've heard it's closer to 11.5cm). So, technically, it should be possible for the Supia Jacob head to fit on the neck of the Dollshe Mystic body without any modifications necessary.

However, I did find this post.

The width of the Dollshe Mystic shoulders is listed as 17cm. It should be mentioned, the Dollshe 18M heads are about 8.5in-9in, and the Supia boys (Zion specifically) is 20.5cm (which is 8in). So, from the sounds of it, the Jacob head might look a little small on the Mystic body.

Depending on your personal preferences, this might not necessarily be a bad thing.

Ah, here is Graratiam's Flickr where they have a Supia head on different bodies (MechaAngel and Dollzone I believe). This might give you an idea. It looks like they were able to measure the head-hole at being 10.5cm.

Hmmm, I may have to abandon that idea then...I have yet to hybrid a doll, but I was hoping that the Jacob head would look good on a dollshe-body, it would have been so easy (at least a lot cheaper) if it had! I'm not really a fan of the supia-bodies either, but I LOVE the Jacob-scuplt. Well, the search for the perfect body for him continues, thanks a lot for your help
