Dollshe Discussion - Part Seven

Jul 23, 2015

1. The plans for a new 18yo body were to be at least a year out (which in Dollshe speak probably means several years). But, who knows, it depends on what strikes his fancy. He has to finish the fashion size dolls first and then planning a revision of the 28m.....

I did breakdown and order Lewis in Oriental so the body will double for a couple Minimee heads I ordered. Personally I prefer the beefier bodies for my guys.

2. Makes me think: isn't the boy fashion size body slimmer than the 70cm one? Looking at his pictures, I could have sworn he was younger.

At the moment, I'd rather find a brother for my Venitu. If Dollshe had had a slimmer body, I would have gone for it. Especially as he currently is cheaper than Granado Mars and offers better looking joints.

Therealwalter: congratulations on your purchase! I love Lewis' head.

3. Do you mean the fashion size bodies have different proportions to the 28Ms? No, they are exact miniature versions; the same propotions, just a fraction of the size (and what fraction that is, I can't work out. About 2/3). There is a photo of them side by side on the Dollshe site.

And, as Walter said, there will be a new 18M 70cm slim body, just not any time soon.

4. I do wonder what the new 18 body will look like as well, but I don't mind waiting. Right now I have my Hound and Rosen......I would love to get the Amanda in larger size. Still waiting for the Fashion size version first.

5. new thread!

6. Wow, look at all these handsome devils! Keep the pics coming!!!

SteamWitch - What if Killian had a mask that he could hold on a stick? There is probably a special name for these masks, but I don't know what it is. :)

7. Would love to have a 18M PureBody in the Fashion size... Anyone think it'll be made?

8. There are so many types of 18M bodies...is it the one with 32 or 35 (?) pieces?
I've got the impression that Dollshe is going down the 'most realistic' path at the moment. I will be interested to see his new take on the 18M SD body.

9. http://dollshecraft.com/product/18m-pure-body/ This is the Pure Body. It'd be nice to have it in the Fashion size. Probably somewhere around 42cm? That's my guess, still I'd love to have it at that size. Especially as a Saint :D

10. SteamWitch - Where did you find that drum kit? It's awesome! Also, Welly's looking rather dapper. ;)
petitballerine - Nice outfit!

Here's a shot of Ragnar (so much fluff). I've been working on his blushing/face ups over the last few days and I'm very frustrated by it. His tattoos aren't coming out the way I want them, his facial scars and eyebrows are oddly placed, and I forgot his bloody eyelashes. :sigh: Back to the drawing board on this one...

11. The drum set is an executive desk drumset, $10.00 at CVS and hobby shops. Got it last summer.

12. That is an awesome find, SteamWitch. Shame I don't have any drummers around.

13. I'm working on a leather mask right now, molding it in shape. I have made the stick-type masks before but I'm thinking of the jester doll they carry too. He can't be holding a mask in one hand and his prop in the other. I guess I'll make one for the jester and one for the masquerade just for the challenge. He won't be wearing the costume for long, my granddaughter said he was too freaky that way and he made her nervous. Even though she is the one who used to dress up as Pennywise the clown from 'IT' when she was little.

I was so surprised to find one this nice at that price. Welly was sort of drafted as the drummer, I don't know if he will continue with the band. :sweat

14. I have no idea how it happened. Rey Lewis fell into my shopping cart. I had been contemplating Granado Mars - I haven't dabbled in Granado yet - but opted to wait until their jointing systems are better looking. With Dollshe, even if we have to wait forever and then some, what we get in return is magnificent.

Ah well. I'll just have to make the best of the situation.... :-P

Julie

15. Julie M - Congratulations? ;)

SteamWitch - Very nice! I've got a bass for Desmond, but he's the only musical one in my entire group. I suppose Ragnar can sing when he wants to...

Speaking of Ragnar...I've finished his blushing/face up(s)/tattoos and while I'm not 100% happy with the way he's turned out, he's presentable enough for photos and meets. He also has some nice new clothes from Iplehouse. They fit mostly well; the crotch area is more than a little tight and he has issues sitting. Anyway, here's my accidentally-a-hipster Viking.

16. Julie M & Quiet and Insane: you are just not helping.
I am now seriously considering buying a copper oriental Rey Lewis before Dollshe dolls become too expensive for my purse. I spotted the future price increase in one of his long descriptions.

Does anybody know where there is a picture of ReyLewis Head With Wrinkles? I cannot find it.

EDIT: ignore me I thought he meant wrinkles in a general way.
EDIT2: this is really annoying. Granado Mars is the right age but has the wrong joints and Dollshe Rey Lewis has the right joints but his body is the wrong age. Both could be brothers to my Venitu but neither exactly hit the mark.
EDIT3: I'll have to wait for the new 18M body in the hope Dollshe makes them more realistic. A Rey Lewis at a younger age?? [IMG]

Quiet and Insane: I Love the shirt.

17. It'll be tough, Julie, but I'm sure you will manage somehow... :)

18. woohoo - Ragnar!
Julie M: my sympathies. accidents do happen. :sneaky
Dollshe's body - those hands & feet - is extraordinary. & posing will be a dream. what color resin?

19. I think Ragnar has a bad case of yummy bedhead for a viking. He looks good in clothes but, Now I want his clothes off so I can see his tattoos. :wiggle

20. I've got the "I just bought a doll" shakes, not helped by the wonky (and scary) way ordering from DollShe on layaway works. I didn't see the bit about cancelling your order in Discussion Part Six first. I dumb-lucked into it. Anyway, after debating the whole day, I went for the big boy version of David. I love my smaller dolls, but I had to sell a big boy a while back, and I really missed having one. David was working his siren song on me, and the sale was too good to pass up. It also works that the other boy was an Iplehouse EID, so I already have clothes. Though I think, like EIDs, he won't want to be covered much.

21. Quiet and Insane, I'm with SteamWitch! Off with the clothes so we can have a look at those tattoos :XD: And I do love that fluffy hair......Are you going to braid it at some point?

22. Lilla - Thanks, pretty much all of what he's currently wearing is from Iplehouse because I have nothing big enough to fit him. He'll just have to deal with wearing 'normal' clothes for a while.
petiteballerine - Yes, now with clothing and blushing. ;)
SteamWitch - I was trying to keep his shirt on, but if you insist...
Azha Nei - Congratulations! :) What resin colour did you order him in?
Jemey - Yes, I'll actually be getting him a second wig that I will have permanently braided. I just love the silly amount of fluff this one has. :D

23. Okay guys HALP HALP HALP.

My girl is in need of clothing, but I have NO IDEA what measures closest to her. Can anyone give me a rough idea as to what sizes will best fit an old Dollshe 68cm girl body? Like -- Feeple65? EID? Anything? Bueller?

I have no idea what to buy and I'm not going to buy something if it isn't going to fit her. :/

24. Quiet and Insane: I got my boy in Pure Oriental. Made myself cross-eyed deciding on the resin. Maybe one day I"ll get the fashion size in one of the honey skin colors.

25. Quiet and Insane I totally agree with getting him -another- wig, and having that one in braids. This extraordinarily fluffy one is just so cute... and by cute I mean burly in the most Vikingish way, incase he asks.
And he looks great with his shirt off. Love those scars!

26. 2 days before rent is due, and Rey Lewis is on sale for 3 more hours at 30% off I've just discovered. Should I do it.... should I do it??? AAHHHH OH MY GOD. WHY NOW? I love him so much. Time to flip a coin.

27. Nice. I'd like to get a Grant in Pure Oriental one day. My David's in Honey Raspberry Fresh. If money were no object, I'd have half a dozen more in several other colours just because they're all so pretty. :whee:

I don't think he'd mind being called cute. Just don't make it a habit. Thank you for your scar compliment - the first glue scar I tried on another doll before playing around with Ragnar - his are a lot 'rougher' in comparison. Given the fact that modern medicine wasn't exactly around during the Viking Age, it made sense to make his scars look a little more ugly. The only 'neat' ones are the ones on his face. I'll probably re-do his face up(s) at some point because I'm still only a beginner and they're far from perfect. But they will do for now.

Well, did you do it? ;)

28. I don't think my question ever got answered -- has anyone tried a 28M head on an Idealian body?

Thinking of getting a Lewis head, but I need to know if the neck would work.

-- A <3

29. It's such a crapshoot. Dollmore Model Woman things are the right length, and that's mostly what I used. (Not the Glamour Bust size, though!) But most SD13 tops are okay, if a little short in the body and sleeves. Also, the old Tensiya jeans for the Dollshe guys fit really well, if you can scare up a pair. Shoes are completely trial and error, sad to say . . .

30. Thanks for the shirtless photo!!! I love the tattoos and that scar ouch but it looks nice on a viking, Badge of honor and such. I look forward to his new braids. Yay Ragnar!

31. Quiet and Insane Yes, I'm a sucker and I did it! :o Really weirded out though, because I just realized that they only charged me for shipping and no doll. I emailed them to ask about the error, so I guess I will find out in a little while what happened. The order was fine until I logged in I think, and then it just crossed out the amount and set it to $0.00, which I'm sure is an error. I thought about just logging out and ordering it by making another account, but I wanted to use my points I racked up from ordering my venitu. Right about now I'm excited, a little worried, and pretty confused. O_o

32. I'm thinking it would look like a bit small on the Idealian body. I had my Grant's head on an Iple EID model body and at was ok, although there was a slight bump in the back of the head and from some angles it looked small. Just my personal opinion that the head would look small. I actually think the DOllshe 28m heads look better on the Iple SID bodies than the EID. No pictures right now, but I tried my David head on an SID body and the proportional match was perfect IMHO. I've never actually had my Dollshe 28 heads on my Idealian body though. Here is Grant on the Iple EID body so you can get an idea what I mean.

33. Ashbet I am getting an idealian (paid in may) and I just ordered lewis, I know it'll be a little while but if somehow your question is not answered by the time they show up, I'll put lewis's head on the idealian body for a comparison for you. I feel like they'll show up around the same time, since soom's a bit backed up on orders at the moment.

34. Thanks so much, both of you!! :)

-- A <3

35. The same thing happened to me. Just get your order number from the transaction and PayPal the rest of the amount to the same email address as was used for the shipping charge. Then email to the Dollshe webmaster to tell them what you did (include order number in that email as well). Appearantly there is a glitch in PayPal now with linked accounts that interferes with how Dollshe set up their website. They say they are working on fixing it so they know about the problem. I assume it has something to do with the eBay-PayPal divorce.
My account still says I paid just the postage but the order is processing and I kept the email reply as additional proof that I did pay in full.

36. Sorry guys -dos anyone know when the sale on the 28M ends? I swear there used to be a countdown on the odering page for the 28m which is gone now - and I can't find the inofmation anywhere else?

37. Dollstown maybe? They have some lovely joints. I'm not a huge fan of their knees but the rest looks pretty smooth. Also, AprilStory is having this huge sale of bodies and they do have some nice more realistic ones. Not sure about the joints....

I hear you on the joints preferences though. Too many doll companies are going full "pairs of joints" with this ] instead of this > as a bent joint shape, and it's not a thing I prefer myself. I tend toward dolls who look good if you only engage half of the doublejointing, as if it were a single jointed doll, and I rarely use the double jointing unless the doll is covered by a lot of clothes so it doesn't look wonky to my eye.

38. SteamWitch - He has a few more scars on his back, left arm, and right thigh, as well as more tattoos on both arms, and his back. I kinda went a little crazy with it, but he's a warrior so it makes perfect sense. Yeah, I'll be getting his new wig eventually. Right now the priority is stuff for a couple other incoming dolls who really will need clothes.

LoudOwl - Yes that happened to me too. I sent through the shipping payment, then sent the rest via PayPal immediately after, with my original order number in the comments. I also sent them an email straight afterward to let them know what I had done and included the order number with that. They're pretty switched on over there and I had no troubles at all.

JinCIncy - I adore your Grant. He looks so dreamy. :D

Sillypeach - The sale just ended. I'm sorry to say you missed out. :(

39. https://flic.kr/p/rszAFv
The dollstown 18yo boy body is a beautiful realistic body that resin matches Dollshe perfectly because it is cast by Dollshe. Posing ability on the one I got is not nearly as good as the Dollshe Purebody or Granado Nuevo which are of similar size. I have a photo of Saint head in Dollstown body and size fit I think works out well but Lewis will be bigger so not sure how size would look. I cannot post pictures directly because I am traveling and do not have laptop with me and cannot figure out how to on mobile app or mobile browser after Flickr "improved" it.
The posing might be better for someone who knows how to properly restring and/or suede the body.

40. Emailed dollshe and got it all sorted out, sent the rest of the money to their paypal account. Thank goodness! Ordered him in honey skin snow pale, which is gonna look super trippy. For the 3 hours I knew the sale was on, I fretted and had a lot of anxiety about what I should do. I remembered seeing on the dollshe work blog that he was made to be ''captain of the wolves'', I thought he'd look super ethereal in glowy white skin. Although I searched madly for photos of dollshe dolls in the honey snow pale skin, I came up with... not a lot. I hope I did the right thing! The moment I saw his face, I was in love. I was never a huge fan of the other two head sculpts, although I saw the beautiful things that people did with him, and I was in love with the body sculpt. I'm so glad Rey came out, it seems like he wasn't being sold for that long though. :pout:

41. Could someone tell me what clothes would fit on a 28M? (as in from other companies with a similar size sculpt) Thank you~

42. Thanks Rosslyn, I like the 18year old body (Dollstown's) but I am not keen on the heads. Not keen on the AprilStory's for some reason, I definitively prefer Dollstown's. I'll have to wait It out and hope for a newcomer or a new doll with a new body. Afterall, Venitu happened! :)

Thanks for the picture and the review, Therealwalter. I do like this body. [IMG]

43. MarryH - 28M guys fit into Iplehouse EID clothing pretty well. The sleeves are a little long on the shirts but it's manageable.

44. I do not think I have seen any dolls in Honey Snow Pale so it will be exciting to see. There are quite a few Pure Pale Dollshes but the Honey should be a lot more translucent. Literally cool idea. Looking forward to see what you do with him.
Lewis might be one of those with a very limited number, like Aramis, unless he becomes popular when they rerelease him again.
Personall, I love the Lewis sculpt, especially the mouth is reminiscent of Venitu which I just could not spend the top dollars for.

45. BlitheFool Thank you very much.

46. Congratulations to everyone who ordered during the sale! Rey Lewis is gorgeous, I was very tempted but decided to wait to see some owner photos and for the body renewal first.

I received my Goohwa in Honey Strawberry Flesh this week and the resin is beautiful! I definitely plan to order more Honey resin dolls in the future. Does anyone have more photos of the Mango Oriental that they could please share, particularly in natural light? I've been searching but could only find a few.

47. Congrats, Loud Owl! Glad you got in there before the end. Sounds like we both just went for it.

aliceBJD: I felt the same way. I can tell better if the sculpt is at least in a resin, but in the clay sometimes it's hard to tell if its one to put on the wishlist.

48. oh, goody! snow pale. I've been wanting a doll in that color & thought if Mr Kim made a Fashion size Rey Lewis it would be very cool, but wondered if it would turn yellow. being honey, it might not. the translucence should be ethereal. I will be stalking your posts in the future, LoudOwl. :aninja:

49. Honey snow pale! Ooh, he's going to look so gorgeous! I hope they re-release him again at some point. I've no doubt that there are quite a few others out there who'd like a chance at him.

As BlitheFool said - Iplehouse EID fit. They are a little long in the sleeves and pants, but they cover everything needing to be covered. Besides, it's easier to hem up long clothing than to extend short clothing.

50. Wow, let me just start by saying that reading this has made me feel SO MUCH BETTER. I was really super torn about ordering honey snow pale, to the point that I nearly emailed Dollshe to ask if I could switch it to another honey resin color when I put my payment through after the site glitch. Like, my hands were shaking and my palms were sweating, I was that anxious. I was either going to go with the honey peach or maybe strawberry, though strawberry is almost too close in color to my raspberry honey Venitu. In the beginning, I wasn't even going to order in a honey skin color at all because it was such a spur of the moment decision and I didn't want to spend the extra (almost obscenely) high amount of dinero for a different resin. I anxiously laid my venitu (in honey raspberry) next to my other dolls (which I had never done a really proper comparison of) and decided I was so sold on the honey resin that I'd have to have it for Rey (oh my poor wallet :...(), but what color? I've been hard pressed to find owner photos of the honey snow pale, and I don't know if anyone else even ordered Rey in that color. That's gonna make it frustrating due to lack of owner photos, but cool I guess since it's sort of an unusual choice. The honey resin really is tempting because supposedly it's stronger, which I can actually sort of feel when I pose my Venitu and tap on his resin with a fingernail. The resin seems more solid, but at the same time like it has more give, or elasticity for lack of a better word. But who really knows? I'm pretty sure they didn't do any ''dollshe drop tests'' with honey skin dolls vs. pure skin dolls, as if they were iphones! :XD:

In any case, now I'm all amped for my glowy boy to get here, and just as amped to see all the owner photos of everyone else who is getting Rey! This thread really helped. :aheartbea

51. I absolutely love the honey resin (I have Saphire, Caramel brown, and Peach dolls). The only reasons I got pure oriental this time was to save money and to used the body for heads from other companies which are opaque.
I found one Saint photo on Flickr in honey Snow Pale: it looks ethereal and other worldly.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/drivels/16572877406/

52. I personally find that all the dolls that Dollshe makes absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. I personally find Grant Phillipe to be super beautiful!

53. I have returned to the Dollshe thread with a (possibly dumb) question. I'm sure I am on the Dollshe mailing list since I made a recent purchase, but I didn't get any notice of the upcoming 30% off sale where I managed to snag Rey Lewis. For months, I ogled Rey on the Dollshe sculpting blog, positive that he'd be coming home to me when he was finally released. If for some reason (not really sure how it works, collector demand I suppose?) Rey Lewis is not re-released, I'd have been pretty darn sad if I didn't get the opportunity to bring him home. In that case, I suppose I'd be trolling the second-hand market for a chance at him. I (very luckily) happened upon the sale while I was stalking the Dollshe website to gawk at resin colors a mere 3 hours before it ended. Is there some kind of notification for upcoming sales like that, of which I am totally spacing out? Or is it just something where, if you end up stumbling across it, you are able to partake? I'm not even sure how long the sale was actually going on for. Maybe it was happening for a while, and I just completely didn't notice? :?

In any case, it'd be nice to know, because if there is actually any kind of forewarning in regards to upcoming Dollshe sales, I'd love to partake (if finances permit) without having to constantly stalk their website 25/8. Lol.

54. LoudOwl - Despite being on their mailing list, I can't recall ever getting an email from DollShe about upcoming sales. O.o

55. Therealwalter, that is a very very pretty Saint, the color is dreamy. I knew the Doll Legend white matched the Dollshe pale, I have both. I see the new honey resin is more translucent or a bit grayer than the DL white, could be the lighting.

56. I am not sure if I received a Dollshe mail for the sale of Rey - I do not think so.
He will be re-released when they update the 28m body to a version that recasters will have to destroy the inner parts of if they want to recast it. Makes me wonder though - does that also mean that we will not be able to restring it?

57. you know this is a very good question. This is why, even if Dollshe ever releases a doll I am 100% sure I want, I will want to know what that anti-recast system is. It sounds like the doll would be more fragile. And at that price, I don't want more fragile, I want 'lasting'.

58. It depends. Looking at just how perfectly the fashion models are copies of the big boys I keep wondering if they didn't use a 3d printer to make them. And if they do there are many things possible. I know more and more kinds of material can be used to print, including wood and metals?
So maybe they are looking into different techniques using a 3D printer and resin??? Maybe it is possible to intergrate 3D printed stuff with normal casted resin? Anyway, I doubt it would make a doll weaker.
The recast should be easier recognisable - which would very be good. Less chance to be conned.

And I hope we can still restring the new dolls. I am not a designer, but I can not think of what they could do with the inside of a body to make it hard for recasters and still allow there regular customers to restring a doll?
I am looking forward to see what they come up with.

59. I did get an email announcing the release of Rey Lewis. Not sure if I was because I subscribed to the newsletter or because of prior purchases. But they announced the sale would be from July 14 to 30 and they did not actually get his sale page working until July 20 so the sale ran for an incredibly short time. In fact, I was starting to wonder if they cancelled it as I checked every day and still could not find it. More proof he is an accomplished artist but an amateur businessman!
I do not think the anti recast technology will significantly weaken the dolls or make them unrestringable. I think it just makes the internal shapes more complex to replicate and need proprietary information to construct properly but I could imagine re casters ignoring the internal parts and just producing dolls that replicate the outside shapes. They won't move or pose like a Dollshe but people who buy recasts are probably willing to get inferior quality for cheaper (but still beautiful) dolls so I am afraid all his efforts will not stop them. It will make authenticity of the real sculpts easier to prove though.
