Dollshe Discussion - Part Twelve

Apr 15, 2017

    1. Happy Easter!
Eric and Jacques-Yves like any holiday that involves eating.

    2. Such a haul those two boys have! Looks like they got loads of candy! I adore how many little props you have there!

      One question for everyone..
I've searched DoA and google images(which was decent), but haven't found many (DoA had 2)... anyone here happen to have a tan Bernard? Any tan is alright, though especially caramel brown would be appreciated!

      • x 1
    3. Have you tried Flickr? I just did a quick check on there and it pulled up a decent amount of results :)

    4. I'll have to! Thanks!

    5. If I remember tomorrow, I'll post a picture of my tan Bernard. He hasn't got a faceup yet (don't even ask how long ago I got him -- he was one of those first Purebody boys -- I was the second person to order one, then he halved the prices, long saga -- and I got him and his brother eleven months and three weeks later....

    6. THis may be a dumb question but I'm failing to find info on this anywhere: is there any flexibility regarding 18M heads going on other bodies etc? Where would one find this info, is there a link with clear instructions for a newbie? I'd really like an OE Van head but I want him to be a bit taller/bulkier. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

eta: and apparently typos are my thing today

    7. that would be wonderful! Thank you so much!

    8. There is a thread in Photo Reference for Dollshe hybrids. You might not find much for a Van, but there will be stuff for other, similar-sized heads. Most will be shorter than the 18M body, but you might find something buffer. The neck would be the potential issue, there.

    9. @petiteballerine - Happy Easter! Make sure they brush their teeth after eating all that chocolate! ;)

    10. Thanks so much! I'll go check it out :)

    11. Alright... tomorrow when I get my tax return I'm going to do it... two dolls... What am I thinking?

    12. So with only 5 day left of the sale, do you think any of the orders have started to be cast yet (since he said he has the moulds ready to go)? At the prices being offered, I really can't see him having trouble fulfilling the 150 piece limit for the sale. I don't really believe the 2-3 month delivery promise although hope springs eternal, y'know.

Edit: and my battle with typos rages on....

    13. Typos seem to be the flavour of the week (much like chocolate).
Wow, a new thread already! That one only lasted four months...

    14. Huh...just realized I'm about at the 7 month mark for my Saint wait. That flew by fast.

    15. I think part of my issue is that my keyboard for my laptop is... dirty would be an understatement. Cat hair and bunny fur get everywhere and crumbs from chips and toast and... yeah. I'd love to have it all spic and span clean and I've hear there's a way to remove individual keys to clean everything really good, but I've no idea how to do that.

    16. Any word on those lovely Grown Bermanns yet? April is more than 1/2 way over...

How about one of those compressed air keyboard cleaners?

    17. Guys can you help me? I want to order Old Hound body for my Saint head which was on dsam 35s body, head is with faceplate, is there any differences between the neck size of Old hound and 35s body? Or this head will fit perfect as on DSAM? :)

    18. I'm having a case of the regrets over here.... I'm beginning to really wish that I'd ordered the Copper Oriental resin instead of the regular Oriental resin. I had decided on a "standard" color so that I could eventually pick up additional Classic heads 2nd to share the body, but I'm seeing so many gorgeous Copper dolls lately. Also I'm rereading the Aegypt Cycle by John Crowley and i kind of want Rosen and his knowing smile to be able to pull double duty as Hollow Cole in fantasy setups and a kind of ~sidealonged Hermes/thoth/Bruno figure from Aegypt in Edgewood setups, and the Copper would be much more right for a Mediterranean mystic of dubious existence....

does anyone know if it's possible to change your resin color even though it's already been 10 or so days since the order was placed? how set in stone is that?

    19. Totally with you on that sentiment. Copper oriental looks gorgeous! I too ordered in just oriental.

    20. I'm really happy with the Copper Oriental! I think it looks so natural. But I also love the Oriental!

I haven't had much time to do anything for my poor Saint. He does have a pair of pants and a wig cap made though so.... progress! :abambi:
I did try and test out his stability and boy can this guy stand!

    21. I just ordered a Saint on the 32s body in copper oriental :D he'll be my first full doll, I've only had one other floating head. I originally ordered Saint in fresh skin on the pure body but like Lirin I saw so many beautiful copper dolls. Initially when I made my order I didn't really look at the 32s body as an option but after a little research I thought that the aesthetic of it was so much more satisfying than the pure body, especially the shoulders. I got in touch with Dollshe less than 24 hours after I made my order and all I had to do was say the difference for the upgrade. So Lirin, there's a chance you could still have them change it. I would just shoot them an email. If anyone can provide some advice on dressing the 32s body and their overall opinions on it that would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post...:sweat

My Pale Tan Rosen named Rain, he is a Assassin, but he is so cute to me.

    23. He's gorgeous. I love the tans that Dollshe does (as well as the colours and omg, the greys are to die for).

    24. Sorry for the (potentially dumb) question, but I cannot find the post I'm thinking of for the life of me... I recall someone in one of the threads saying that if you request the headcap version of saint, you get an older version of the sculpt. Can anyone verify this for me?

    25. @rianne yes you can get the headcap version but it isn't the original old Saint. There seem to be three versions of Saint, the original w/headcap, the new w/headcap and the faceplate.

    26. @SteamWitch Thanks! Yeah, I'm familiar with the three versions... so headcap would be the 2009 version I'm thinking?

    27. okay I just left a message on the Q&A board about changing to copper oriental skin, hope it works! And @miffimifster it doesn't hurt to ask if you really want to switch, all they can do is say no, right? at least that's what I'm thinking

@Effiedreams as far as I know all the Old Classic 18M heads can work on all the bodies, which is why you can pick any combination on the sale. I would think anyway...

@Animethemed your saint looks fantastic in the copper

    28. @rianne apparently the faceplate is the 'new' 2009 version and the new 'old' headcap version is from 2012. At least that's what I think i learned from a comprehensive comparison pic on a blog.... but the blog was in russian, so i'm going by the google translation of the caption. The dates were on the picture though.
anyway neither is identical to the 'original old' saint, which was only available way back when... but imo the headcap version is more similar.

    29. No, of course not. It's just that I like the Oriental resin too. I just wish I could order MOAR, but with Copper Oriental this time... :P

    30. @Lirin Thank you! I've been trying to figure this out for ages lol. I'm intrigued to see the Grown version he's made now start arriving as the mouth and cheekbones at least look a lot like the original head.

      @miffimifster I FEEL YOU.

    31. Placed my order for a Rosen and a Husky, both in Rhythmos! No idea yet for characterizations but looking for suggestions - especially for Rosen. I'm seeing my Husky as a grumpy, spoiled rich boy, while Rosen really gives me a very hip, nonchalant, "whatever happens I can handle it" kind of doll. I'm not sure what their relationship is yet (platonic or more) but I did buy them to be a pair.

    32. Needing to have paired dolls is how I ended up with 41 dolls *laughs*. I am so glad that no other Dollshe sculpt spoke to me with this sale. My wallet dodged a bit of a bullet there.

    33. LOL! I promised myself 1-4 dolls max! Right now, including my off-topic pet dolls, I have about 9 dolls and 5 of them are SD sized! These two will be my first Dollshe so I really am not quite sure what to expect and not sure if I can even handle them, but since they are so different from the rest of the my dolls, I decided to take the plunge and get two so they can at least photograph together!

    34. Like so many others, I said I'd only have 2. But there was a mix up with my purchase of my very first doll and the free head I was supposed to get was sent to me in the wrong resin colour. The company told me to keep the wrong coloured head and sent me the one I'd asked for. However, the character that was supposed to be the correct resin coloured head refused to be that size (MSD) as he was significantly taller than his partner (who is MSD). So I started looking for another sculpt for him and the son of the the character that refused the head, insisted he was that sculpt, which meant I then needed to find his partner. While looking for him, I saw another character and needed to get him as that sculpt was limited. Which meant I then needed to find his partner. And the slippery slope just got steeper and steeper....

Add in a couple of dolls that I was given as gifts from a fellow doll friend and the unexpected winning of a doll in a charity raffle and... yeah. I kinda thought I'd be done with one more purchase this year but I just recently purchased a head (another limited doll *sigh*) and I'll need to find his partner later so....

    35. Hes beautiful... Im totally convinced nowthat I need that caramel tan Bernard.

    36. @Iron_Dog so true! It's incredible how quick and easy they can creep up on you! I want to pay off my layaways and then end up getting another doll as soon as I paid off. Someone needs to stop me from looking at doll sales >_<

    37. Oh man, I got an unsolicited email from Dollshe saying they'd be working on my 1st order next week. *does happy dance*

I get the "I didn't mean to have this many" lol, I'm at 65.

    38. Every now and again I sort of look at my dolls in bewilderment and ask myself how the hell did this happen? I like the Hound quite a bit but thankfully not enough to leap at a purchase of one. I'm content to admire from afar.

yea! for news on your order. That's fantastic.

    39. Copper oriental eh? Two of my four Dollshe guys are copper oriental and I love the colour so much! Here's a little James spam... new thread and all. ;)

    40. The copper oriental is really nice. I love the eyes in your boy, Quiet and Insane. For all the excruciating wait times, Dollshe sure does some beautiful resin colours.

    41. @Lady_addiction That's gonna be a killer pair! I totally agree with the vibe you get from them too. Rosen is such a chill guy especially.

@Quiet and Insane LOVE copper oriental. I painted a Phillipe in that color, and it's just to die for. I love your guy's scar too.

I ordered a Bernard on the Rythmos btw. And with him settled I'm increasingly tempted by 'grown' saint. I think I might like this new version best really, but it's so hard to tell. (I had the new faceplate version, and he's great, but he lacked that 'something; that made me fall in love with original saint) SIGH Oh well. I refuse to be pulled in by Dollshe shenanigans. It'll happen after I've actually seen the doll finished if it's gonna happen. XD

    42. Dollshe announced the winners of the giveaway they did a while ago. Since not everyone gets these update e-mails, I figured I'd share. Congrats to all the winners! :D

    43. Congrats to @Therealwalter and all the others! Dollshe seems to be getting it back together again, which is very good news for everyone. Long may it last.

    44. I can't believe I finally actually won something. I never win stuff. I wonder if they let us get fancy colors because that would be totally awesome.

    45. They don't say not...

    46. Congrats! Everyone! That's wonderful news! :)

    47. you guys, I am considering madness here... looking at the clock counting down, I'm impulsively-seriously thinking of ordering a second classic to go with the rosen. A Bernard or a Saint, one of those long-denied wishlist items of my youth in the hobby. I don't have a character in mind, and i've been saving up for a DT17 boy body for my dear Leeke Alex head, so it would be disastrous to my plans.
otoh the 32s and 35s just never seem to go for this low of a price 2nd hand. And I worry that only classic dollshes will look as right with other classic dollshes, you know? they're kind of singular in scale and aesthetic, at least as far as I've ever seen....

and i only have few days to decide :?

    48. OMG! I won a doll?! A fashion size too, like the 3 I have already ordered. Who am I gonna get?! I am so squeeing in excitement and amazement right now!

Edit: On a related note. Even though I said I would buy the hands if they made them, I'm kinda glad they decided against it. For two reasons: 1)I really can't afford to splurge on hands that I may or may not ever change them into. Despite loving them. and 2) them not doing so it actually very responsible of them. It's an indicator that they are finally getting their S*** together and not making things they don't have the time to make. And concentrating on our existing orders.

I also think that I will be getting an Arsene...after seeing all the owner pictures...I really love him. I always liked his face, but his body grew on me too...gentle giant in fashion size hehe.

    49. I have a doll (not a Dollshe) that I got a 2nd set of hands for and I don't think I've changed out the hands he's wearing right now in... 3 years? I have another doll that came with a pair of free alternate hands and I've never changed his hands. I think it's a cool idea to have different hand styles but for me, I'd never use the alternate ones.

    50. I usually get extra hands just in case. It's nice having parts that are guaranteed to fit and have a decent resin match on hand (this is especially true when ordering from companies with long wait times or limited colors) ;)

    51. Congrats to all the winners!

I went ahead and added a dsam32 saint to my order with a request for the headback style head. Fingers crossed they humor me.

    52. Hah I totally hear everyone making last minute decisions... Still trying to work out if my budget can afford one teensy eensy Dollshe addition (spoiler: it can't), and if I do take the plunge whether to get the doll in question in copper oriental or pale tan.

(Eyeing up an Aramis - with that nose he'd work as a character of mine who's been de-shelled for a little while when I realised the old doll was too short... Basically think the people in Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea quartet for an idea of the setting/race. But really can't decide which way to go on the colour, which I have to admit I'm kinda taking as a bit of a sign to not absolutely murder my wallet)

Edit: Brief sigh of relief on my wallet's behalf (temporarily ignoring the floating heads all clamouring for bodies); realised why I was so on the fence about Aramis - whilst he's serene and has a striking nose - both traits I've been looking for for an absolute age, he's on the wrong side of the content/solemn divide expression-wise for the character.

    53. i heard back and i can change the color of my order 'because it isn't being produced yet.' For an extra $50, despite the way the pull down menus show the Copper oriental is $37 more in the pull down menu.... not a huge difference of course. maybe it's a surcharge for making a change?

but whatever, i'll pay it without making a fuss, only all they told me was that I could change it, and how much to pay, not where to pay or how to actually get my order changed. Just send payment to the webmaster@dollshe address, or ???

    54. That's it, the same one you sent the original payment. Just make sure you leave a message on Q&A with your order number and that you paid the extra for the color change, and what that color is.

    55. Another note to the winners, the wording says "full package", so it's likely that you get every part that's been made for the doll you choose. Maybe that'd affect what you decide upon. ;)

    56. @Vetinari (A+++ screenname btw ;)) I am happy for your wallet even as I weep for my own. XD

    57. Congrats to the giveaway winners! (It's cool to see names I've sen around here, haha.)

I'm happy Dollshe seems to be getting things relatively on track, but am I the only one a bit concerned about this "final sale"? I feel like 150 dolls have probably been sold by now, and there's no way they correspond to the number of dolls they can get out of the molds they're finishing off exactly... Like, I never believed that it was a final sale before anyway, but Dollshe's saying this was a sale to use up the remaining molds and I feel like there's no way they're fulfilling all these orders without making any new ones... I expect it'll be not-really-the-last-molds as usual and they'll make more, but part of me wonders if they're gonna go back and cancel/cut off people who went over the number that were supposed to be available.

    58. I do not think they will cancel anybody but I also do not think this will be the last of these sculpts.
