Luts Kid Delf Discussion part 14

That's koo a new thread. I wanted to ask if you guys could help me pick out a body for Cheshire. I know Luts has two MSD boy bodies but I'm not sure what body would be the best choice

I would go for the Boy 2 Multitype. The only difference I can see between it and their regular Boy body is the inclusion of those thigh-clicky-things. They're not joints, but they give a lot more mobility and poses. Mau can hold a childish 'knees together and legs splayed' pose because of it, and any character named 'Cheshire' is gonna need all the wacky posing ability they can get.

Thank you! I was actually a bit disappointed with how pale she was when I got her, given that I opted for the cheaper tan resin rather than the really nice paid one. She's more olive coloured than tan. It looks good nonetheless, and she's so adorable it's hard to stay mad.
I really wish that Luts would stock parts for her and the other 'inhuman' sculpts they carry, since her ears and tails come off really easily and I'm always really worried I'm gonna misplace them and she'll be missing a ear for the rest of her life.

I love seeing everyone's dolls on this first page of the new thread! They're so beautiful!
I've been having a hard time adjusting to the new forum, but maybe it will come eventually. So I'm sorry I haven't been as active as I was before. Then again, I haven't taken many pictures of my dolls lately either. Here's one from a while back of Charis and Amaris

Ah, I was very confused until I realized, new thread! Yay! ^^ Unfortunately I don't have any new spam of my girl. Hopefully we get some snow this winter to take some nice pictures... but it's very rare here.

Elizabeth Maldonado Thank you so much! ^^ What definitely has made me figure out Aspen a little more is changing her faceup, dressing her up in different styles, and wigs! Wigs make such a big difference in a doll, I think. I think putting your girl on a body and dressing her up with definitely be helpful in figuring her out. ^^
I didn't think that silicon kips would help me so much just based on the shape of her joints, but they really did, and were worth the struggle of restringing, I think. I got mine from Coolcat while picking up an extra s-hook, since they're cheap and came in a pack meant for MSD sized dolls.

@aliasmedalis Hello! ^^ Welcome to you and to your Corni (does she have a name?). I agree, I like the pink wig with the tan skin! Is it a curly wig on the bottom? I made the mistake of getting a curly wig as my first synthetic wig, and it was so unruly! My girl doesn't continually lean to the right, but her thigh joints do give her the ability to lean to the side.

I can finally show my kid delf ani (ws)!

The only picture I have of her atm on my computer is this one with my doll love. It's so hard to get her eyes to show up x___x I may have to find a brighter pair of red eyes (that won't make her look 'like a demon' as my mom would put it >w>) I'm the second owner of her and the first owner said she was made in '08! Even though there is next to no yellowing~

Though I'm considering selling the Ani head and buying Nana head. Anyone have any thoughts on the Nana sculpt?^^

Can I just say I love the doll on the right's eyebrows? Dot eyebrows are a absolute delight, especially if they're big dot eyes.
The Nana sculpt looks super duper cute, especially if you have a blushing to accentuate her pudgy cheeks. I'd be careful with buying a new head for her, though, because the white resin might have changed in colour. It won't be a terrible difference, because white skin usually isn't, but it's worth a note.
There's a lot of red eyes on Ebay, terribly enough, and they're usually pretty nice. It looks like you've got 18mm eyes in her right now, which makes her irises darker - less light on the eye as a whole and all that. 16mm might be a bit brighter in general, and they're just as common, even if they're not quite as youthful looking.

Her name is Mau! I wasn't sure if people mentioned their BJD's names and if that still counted as on-topic, but I see it seems to be now. And yeah, it's kinda curly at the bottom. It's not nearly as curly as my SD's hair, but it's still got a delightful spiral to it towards the bottom.
I just got a brush for it too, so it's been rather... chaotic for the last six months. OTL. It's got a little princess braid along the back, which you can't usually see but it looks really cute in person. I'm kinda debating on getting a mohair wig (like alpaca fur or something) just for maximum floof, but those kind of wigs are expensive. Thanks for the compliments on her!

And, because this is a new thread, I figure it's okay for me to post another pic of Mau. Still cellphone photos, sorry.

 

@booksen I agree on the dot eyebrows, LOVE them! As as for the Nana sculpt, I really like it! ^^ it's such a cute and innocent sculpt like the Ani, and the pudgy cheeks are to die for. I do like the Ani sculpt as well (and she looks like she's in really great shape for being almost 8 years old ), though I think the Nana will probably have a smaller head. (Can anyone can confirm that?)

@aliasmedalis Curly wigs, even if sometimes a pain, are really super cute, though. And I think that one really suits Mau. ^^ I kinda like the crazy mohair wigs, too, though if you get one of the super floofy ones that have the fur still attached to the leather, it might be too thick to get her ears back on? I don't know how strong the magnets are, and whether its just me, but my mohair wig has a pretty thick cap (like the thickness of a silicon cap + regular wig cap).

 

@PencilWolf - Thank you! You probably all know that Charis is my favorite doll, so I'm sure I'll continue to spam her XD. Thanks for the encouragement about the forum. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually.

Yeah that would be my next worry besides the head size is the resin color change.

Do they? I ordered from ebay and they said 16 mm.. Yes, ebay can have some good eyes for sale for not too pricey ^^ I just don't want to order another pair and them be too bright a red, I'm sure something will come up soon! Thank you for the tips~

It is such a cute sculpt! It has the right amount of 'baby face' looks without looking too youngish in my opinion. She is in good shape, the first owner said they pretty much never got her out of the box. I had to restring her (and she's still a little loose but it was my first time to do a restringing) and then I sanded down a few seams that she had. I don't see any yellowing, and if so it's very faint and even.

I hope so, if someone could confirm it that would help soo much! I'm hesitating to buy it because I don't want it to be the same size and then I'm stuck trying to resale it. I'm already having trouble selling one doll, another head would be frustrating X3

Hi! I've been lurking & watching the Kid Delf thread here while waiting for sign ups to open up. My first doll was an Almond on the romantic girl body (she's now on a Model Delf body...can I still share her in here?).

This is Tilly Campari (Darae) my tomato girl I hope to get painted up here soon, weather permitting. Need to make a new tassel for her hanbok as the one that came with it wasn't tomato-ey enough.

 

Well, I got my Muroo head in today, and I think I have discovered that I detest Luts glass eyes. I don't know if I just have terrible luck when it comes to random eyes, but outside of the ones that came in my Zuzu Delf, I don't think I've ever really been happy with a pair. My reaction was basically, "BLARGH SHE LOOKS LIKE AN ALIEN WHO HASN'T HAD ANY SLEEP," and then I removed them and put the pair of Dollbakery eyes I'm saving for my Maska in temporarily instead. She needs her own pair of eyes, though... flaming red is not quite what I'd intended for her. (Still better than soulless, alien mint green.) Another thing I noticed is that Muroo has a very shallow head. My Elf Hodoo's head actually has a more bulbous forehead, which surprised me. The wig I put on her here (which was purchased for her alongside my Jamong Pegasus) is actually quite poofy at the top. I'm considering either stuffing a silicone wig cap to fill it out or layering her head cap with hot glue (after she's painted) until it fits the way I want it to.

 

my reaction to the luts random eyes has usually been that they must have got a bulk lot of eyes that no one else wanted really cheap, just to have something to put in as the random eyes. id rather have a pair of acrylic eyes that are at least usable temporarily, than garbage glass ones. i think my last pair was bright pink!

 

I've had pretty good luck with the random eyes, but most of my characters have unusual eyes. The one time I couldn't use the eyes was a yellow eye with a pink iris. It really freaked me out.

 

Yeah, auntbear, I hear you on that. If I hadn't had a pair of urethane eyes in the drawer, unused, I probably would've pulled out the one pair of acrylic eyes I own (that I also don't like much, because I think they look flat and lifeless) and put those in instead. I have dolls with bright or fantastical eye colors or unusual features like crystal pupils, but pupil-less eyes and eyes with pupils that are a lighter color than the iris are just something I have no use for at all.

In other news, she has been assembled! When it came to the wig, I went for a silicone wig cap and then layered the back of it with bubble wrap. It's working quite well. (Honestly, her head is so shallow that I think even stretching a particularly giving 6/7 to go around it would still leave empty space in the wig.)

 

My problem with Luts random eyes is that they usually give me ones that are way too large for the doll. I have some larger dolls that I can use them for, though, so it's usually useful. If not, I gift/trade them to friends or sell them on the MP. So I guess in my experience, it's been a toss up. I've had some really lovely eyes from Luts, but others have been not as lovely, no matter what the size.

 

it's too bad they don't give you at least a choice between natural and fantasy eyes and then go random within that category at least that way you would have a better chance of getting something that might work for one of our dolls, even if not the particular doll they came with. i know a lot of people who have complained that luts always seems to send fantasy eyes and many of us have no use for them.

that's a cute outfit you put on her @Mizukichama i like the schoolgirl/preppy look with the centaur. its a change from the usual fantasy look that most people choose

 

Thanks, it's cuter than I expected. Pretty much all doll clothing I have for this size range was bought for and belongs to one specific doll (Rosalva, my Kid Delf Lolly), so I never know how another doll's going to look in her stuff. My actual plan, once she's painted, is to dress her up in beaded tribal gear. I've been looking into the Withdoll "Elf Hunter" bow and arrow set for her too, since there is an incredibly sad lack of 1/4 scale weapons that aren't like letter opener swords and such. Of course, as I've found with any doll I own, stylistic outfits are great, but somehow they all end up with modern, casual outfits too. It just depends on my mood.

 

if you can't find a bow and arrow that works, our own mb lilac has a marvelous tutorial on building a bow arrow and quiver for a 1/4 scale doll. (she has lots of other great tutorials on her site as well)

 

Thank you for the tutorial @auntbear I recently fell in love with luts' archer set but it sold out before I noticed it. I wanted to make a bow but didn't know how to go about it.

 

Yeah, their archer set is nice, but it's too large for my dolls. That tutorial is definitely going to be useful. I may go for a different design, so it matches my doll's aesthetic, but that looks so much easier to obtain and affordable than hunting down a painted resin one.

On the bright side, I've got some clothes on the way for him that will hopefully fit the look that I've had in mind for him ever since I ordered him and have yet to achieve...

 

Weighing back in on the andom eye thing from luts: I usually detest Luts random eyes because they don't suit the character, not because I hate the eyes.
Fate came with a beautiful pair of blue eyes, but I needed green for her [she's my delf arwen]
My Peach and Yuz both came with gray, and they were really nice, but I wanted a dark red/maroon for them.
Frost, my Kelp, came with beautiful blue eyes...

For my sisters Basil, I actually requested 14mm since I hate teh 16mm in the kid delfs. xD And they told me no problem!

 

I've definitely found that size is an issue with random eyes from just about every company. I don't mind 16mm in Kid Delfs, though 14mm also look really nice. (I think 16mm fit the eye wells better, but the iris size can be annoyingly large. Small iris 16mm are probably the best fit for me.) My dolls from other companies usually end up with eyes that are either too large or too small, though. Like one of my Pipos dolls came with 16mm when she really needed 14mm, and a Dollzone doll of mine came with 14mm, even though she really needed at least 16mm. I think I may just have bad luck with eyes in general, though I've had the worst luck from Luts. The eyes from other companies that were the wrong size were at least usable for something else. :/

 

I had great luck with my zuzu delf. the eyes were SO beautiful.
though this makes me nervous for my honeytaur. My kid delf is just a body, as I bought the head seperately with default eyes (that I also really love)

 

I feel like a rare exception, haha. I wanted purple eyes when Aspen arrived, and that's what I got. Though now, she's in some pretty browns. Luts must include eyes that aren't selling/have extras of.

Terje came with a pair of "normal" brown eyes (granted that was 2 years ago...). They're super cute, but they also make him look too young, which is part of why I switched to the blue. =P

PencilWolf, I'm hoping for a kind of punk/goth combination. Cliché, I know , but I still want to give it a shot myself to see how it works. ^^ And I'll definitely post pictures once they arrive ^^ ...and not a year down the road, either. XD

 

So yesterday was probably the last nice day in Texas for a while so I decided to paint one of my dolls. I know she's a KDF event head, but I'm not sure which one. One of my friends sent her to me as a surprise. If anyone knows which one she is please let me know. I put her on a Mystic Kids body which has a kind of awkward resin match, but it fits the female MDF clothes very nicely and has the added bonus of making her taller than her boyfriend.

You must live in a very different part of Texas than I do. Yesterday and the day before were honestly some of the worst weather we've had all year, and now in the aftermath it's absolutely freezing on top of it all.

 

Thank you, Mizukichama. I know it's not the Summer 2015 because that's the one I have for her boyfriend. I'm torn between thinking it's a 2014 because she actually doesn't have the year stamped in her head. Here's a close up though.



I live around the Houston/Sugar Land area. It was nice only in temperature. Cloudy all day and I had to do the final spray in the garage because it started raining, but I was pretty determined.

@xellos With that closeup, I think it really is the first head I linked, which is the Summer 2014 head, which was actually a Kid Delf version of Honey Delf Pudding. The eye makeup was throwing me off, but that nose and those lips look 100% like the 2014 head.

I live in the DFW area, and we were slammed with tornadoes and torrential thunderstorms. We have not had good post-Christmas weather. :/

Am I too late to the 'random eye discussion?' Yes? Oh well, gonna talk about it anyway!
My Mau was sent to me with a lovely pair of 16mm lilac-gray eyes. They were pretty enough that I debated keeping them in but, as I wanted her to have sparkly pink eyes, I ended up swapping them out for some 18mm custom acrylics I ordered on Etsy. I would have gotten some ones with cat-pupils but, for whatever reason (ie; too much anime), all the ones I saw looked way too 'threatening' for my dorp of a kitten. I really like the eyes they sent me nonetheless, even if I'm uncertain as to what I'll use them for. Maybe if I get another Kitty Delf; Mau needs a sister or three, considering the size of cat litters.

What wig is she wearing? It's a absolutely gorgeous colour! The lacquer on her lips is a really nice touch too; seems to add a bit of sophistication.

 

So, it finally snowed here in south Sweden...a month late but I ran out to take pictures! Then my battery on the camera died, but i managed to get one picture I liked before that. There wasn't much light so I thought I'd use this as an opportunity to play around in Photoshop I like how it turned out but I definitely over did the eyes, too anime, oh well practice makes perfect!

Sorry for the big size, but due to the request to see one of the new dolls from LUTS I decided to show pics of my Papaya.
She came on the 29th of December. I got her with Normal skin and Default face-up for now and I plan on getting Pepino in the future.

 

@Updateme you might want to edit those into one picture or just link to the other one. I seem to remember there being a one photo per post rule for the discussion threads.

She is rather cute, though. I like the curly bob look on her, though I like the color of the longer wig better.

And yes, I am quite fond of the pink one as well, though due to the lack of quality I changed to the bob. I've ordered a bob and a half-length wig in the same pink as the former pic however, so in the future it'll change once more.

 

Sorry not yet, she's a facupless floater right now, I had almost saved enough to get her an awake head(she's dreaming right now haha) on a MDF body buuuut that, like all spare cash we have, got dragged into the wedding bill funds...I'll be able to start really saving in July....

Ogosh, a Papaya!!! I want one! I'm loving the faceup. It looks a tad different than the promo photos, is it one of their custom ones?
I'll be getting a Papaya later this year, hopefully. She'll be the younger sister to the DL Amara in my avatar and will have red hair and freckles. Seeing yours makes me want mine sooner!

It is the default face up on Normal skin, just like the promo. However, promo pic lightning and my crappy camera pic would make a big difference in how the face up turn out irl.
Regardless I'm happy with it and her and I do hope you enjoy your own Papaya once you get her!

 

Ah, okay. In the promo pic, the eyeliner looks light brown where here it is obviously very, very black. I was thinking of getting the default and just adding freckles on top, however, I need a softer look for my girl. Not that I don't like the faceup. It is gorgeous! Just not what I had in mind for Poppy.

 

Well, I just took the plunge about a week ago and ordered my first BJD, a Jadoo girl with the "romantic" body type. From the looks of things, I'm in the minority when it comes to sculpt choice. (I just couldn't resist that pouty little face...haha)

 

I feel like there's at least one Jadoo that gets posted in the thread every once in a while, but you're right about her not being that common. She's definitely got her charms though, so it'll be nice to see another one.

 

i have plans to add a Jadoo to my resin family (the pouty face got me too), however my wallet is not agreeing with them at this time
