IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread part 13

Dec 18, 2018

    1. Oh yes, I am really curious how my second Nic looks like in real life.

And I am also curious how those magnetic hands work. If they work well, you can be sure that I will bother them creating other hand positions. Or I may modify the hands which are already here...

    2. They do work well, @Ipledreamer , I have bonked them off, but not easily. I just wish they started with a more natural pose!

    3. @IngieBee yes, they supose to create more poses of those hands, insted of them i would use to buy jointed hands i think, or i will wait till they will make more choises for us :-)

    4. Well, these magnetic hands are actually ideal for Dr. Strange, when he does his swirly magic things with his fingers.

But longterm, I would love to have fists, gun-holding hands, sword-holding hands...@Impldoll: just take a look at Hot Toys hands! Make them available as a set, and offer them also indivdually. That would be a dream come true for me, and I would equip all of my guys with those hands.

    5. I did buy jointed hands for my Nick. I hope the arrive next month!

Yes! Hot toys hands! Good idea, @Ipledreamer :D

    6. Hm, I have the Impl Idol male jointed hands. To be honest, I do not love too much. I understand that it is not possible to sculpt them so that they look as elegant as the fixed hands. Sadly, they also like to turn a lot in the knuckles, which drives me crazy. As one hand fell apart, I looked at the sockets if there is any chance to add some kind of edge. I have not yet found a proper method. But I own pairs from other companies which are more firm in that regard.

So by now I do not think jointed hands are the be all end all solution to BJD hands with which you can make them do different things. So I am very curious about the magnetic hands and which other poses Impl will offer (I really hope they are still working on that project). But soon I will know more.

    7. I got the jointed hands as well but don't like the size for the idol body as they seem too small. I do like them on my star boy Dylan though. I am thinking of wiring them :)

On the whole, though, I love jointed hands for their intricacies if nothing else. I remember in the old days wishing someone would make a pair, but I was certain it would be too small a scale! :aeyepop: but they did it!

    8. I love jointed hands. I tend to get them when they're offered. I can't even say I utilize them all that well; they're just so neat and detailed.

    9. OK people, we lost our group due to a new thread and I'm in withdrawal. This is my favorite thread!!! So here is some picture spam, and hopefully someone will see the thread :bump

[IMG]Impldoll Lydia by ingiebee, on Flickr

I'm not sure if I have posted this picture of my Lydia night elf yet? I like the weird way her lower lashes turned out. Was a mistake, then I thought it looked cool, LOL. But the brows are so stiff, ugh! Wish I could do brows :( I still haven't even started on her costume yet, I'm so bad! And before doing something new, I also have a fear of starting and having it not work out, LOL so I stay in a state of non-starting for extended periods of time. I gotta push myself out of it!

    10. @IngieBee I don't believe you have posted her before. She has a lot of character!

They do post a message when they split the thread. I do find I need to check watched threads under forums at least once a day to stay up with all my threads.

    11. Yes, I used to only have a few dolls from 2 companies, then 3 then several and in different sizes, now it's hard to keep up, no?? LOL. Thank you @nancy_schroeder_ca :D

    12. Argh I fell off the thread, not so much through it being a new one and more because I'm not on top of anything right now!

My Ringdoll hands arrived! Luckily they weren't damaged despite customs pulling them out of the separate box they were in, out of their bubble wrap then just shoving them back into the still open box so they were essentially loose in there XP the wrist balls are tiny! Ringdoll must make tiny wrists!

I also gave my Dorisy a temporary faceup as her Resinsoul body is in the post! She's also got a new wig. When we have some sunlight I'll redo her face so she doesn't have #InstagramFail eyebrows XD

[IMG]Isla Temporary Faceup by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

@IngieBee I totally get the not - starting for fear of messing it up thing - sometimes you have to give yourself that little nudge so you can't turn back XD you got good symmetry on your Lydia - as for the eyebrows, they're very straight - maybe she'd suit a bit of a haughty arch to them?

      • x 5
    13. Yes! That's it, @rubydoll! They need drama! I'll undoubtedly be redoing it again soon, but I'm concentrating on putting together some clothes. I did plan on getting feathers for the brows, but the ones I've found lately are shabby for the job :( Just got to keep looking :D

Love the sweetness of your Dorisy's faceup, it's going to go perfectly with her brother (that's the one with a twin brother, right?) Oh she's so sweet, and I love the maiden style hair!

    14. Ooh, feather brows sound intriguing! They're not the easiest thing to work with - or at least that's my excuse for why I still have some feathers tucked away I've never got around to using!

Ah, no, the twin is the head that came with her, a second Iris head - she got a faceup too but I went a bit overboard with the eye shadow - if I dress my dolls with an 80s theme she'll be perfect XD Here she is with her brother and Heilan, my Dylan. I'm wondering if I might want to shorten his neck a little or if it's just that jumper making it look so long!

    15. Wow, I didn't get notification for this thread :(. Late reply, sorry! I actually intended to come to this lonely thread to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, or happy holidays, or winter/Summer solstice or just an awesome Tuesday, LOL

I love those not-so-ugly Christmas sweaters, @rubydoll . You know, about the neck, is that the star body? I think my Dylan looks long in the neck as well. I think the v neck might enhance that effect. However, try a trendy turtleneck on him before doing anything. I find turtleneck sweaters look nice on a long neck ;)

    16. I've noticed that notifications can be a bit sporadic - I think it's set up so you're not spammed with them but the downside is sometimes you don't get ones you do want! Merry Christmas to you too @IngieBee and may everyone have a lovely day whether you celebrate or not :)

Yep, Dylan is on the Star and does usually wear something with more of a neck - maybe I'll layer him up if I get round to changing his trousers! The sweaters are designed to go on wine bottles so the fit varies - and the sleeves are a bit short but they were not expensive and for once a year they're great. I also got some doggy socks which I almost forgot about!

[IMG]Christmas Socks by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

Ridley really doesn't look sure about the public display of affection but Finn doesn't care. And Mr Randall just wishes they'd get off his shelf and give him some elbow room so he can play the violin XD

    17. Ah, Wine bottles! I was going to ask, but I figured it was from an artisan somewhere :D I have a wine bottle apron I put on a mini doll. It has a pair of boobs and says in German "as good as mother's milk" LOL. It fit my boy's personality well. The girls weren't too pleased though and were mad at me for encouraging him ;) (well, that's what I think they were trying to say, LOL)

    18. Hahaha that is awesome XD sorry girls but I think I'd be guilty of encouraging him too!

I was hoping to pick up a couple more wine bottle jumpers but I think I got the last two - maybe I'll have to get better at crochet!

    19. Geepers people, where is everyone? @chalyss @Iron_Dog have you not found the new thread yet? Who else hasn't arrived yet? This is my favorite thread and we are dead in the water! LOL Wake UP, it's almost 2019!!!

    20. @IngieBee I can only assume everyone is rushed off their feet! I've been lurking around the forum a bit but my phone is out of data until the start of next month so I can't even while away my breaks at work on here!

In the meantime though, my Resinsoul body for my Dorisy head arrived! Here she is against Aigne on the Model body.

[IMG]Resinsoul Vs Impldoll Model by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

I'm intending to mod her shorter - I don't know if I will take her down as far as the Model - there's about a 3cm difference - 57.5cm Vs 54cm - cos of the angle the yardstick isn't accurate here - but it's feasible a tall 13 year old could be taller than a short adult, right?

      • x 1
    21. @rubydoll I like her as she is! Nice long body (seems like her legs would be too short if you took height from there?) And definitely RE hight, I had two 14 year old nieces and a cousin that stretched to 5'11, 6' and 6' tall by 12-14 years of age, and I never got over 5'4" and my kids are 5' and 5'2" as adults. People come in all different sizes :) and girls generally will be full grown at 14 or certainly by 16, while boys keep on going until 25, i believe (all generalizations of course) I really like them together as they are :)

      • x 1
    22. @rubydoll I agree with @IngieBee! The body is so nicely proportioned! I would not try to shorten it.People do come in all shapes and sizes!

    23. Genetics are so funny, my nieces are from either side of the family (husband's and mine) and EVERYONE in the family is taller than I am (save one cousin, who's sister is 5' 9") and everyone is taller than my husband in his family. It's like we are the short congregation, LOL It would be nice if you could say we ate less, and made less of an impact on the earth, but we're also the fattest, ROFLMAO. No gnomes, all hobbits here!

    24. @IngieBee @nancy_schroeder_ca it is a nice body but actually that's another reason for me to want to mod it - I also got a Ai head and I'm tempted to get the same body for her. By default she has the older single jointed body. I want all my dolls to have different bodies because like you say, we are all different. She seems very long in the body to me, perhaps because I'm very short in the body - there's hardly any gap between my bottom ribs and my hip bone. I'd like to say I make up for it with long legs but no, I'm a fairly average 5'5½ . My friend who is the same height as me when we're standing is actually taller than me when we're sitting - her figure is probably pretty close to the Resinsoul body! I wish I could say mine is like the Model's...maybe if I gave up cheese and cake and chocolate XD

    25. Well, if you can modify the body and not the legs, oh boy! Sounds scary either way, but exciting too!

    26. So my brown Azalea on the new jointed body is on her way!!!!! They're using a new shipping company as far as I can tell, SF Express which gets terrible reviews, yaaay :( But I'm happy she's on her way. AC said she can arrive in 4 days, which might mean Saturday?! I sure hope so!

      • x 1
    27. Ooh, exciting! Let's hope that the bad reviews are from the minority of customers who have had a bad experience while the new company is getting through its teething problems and it arrives safely and on schedule :dance I hope you'll post loads of pics when she arrives - are you the first person on DoA to get the new body?

      And because I'm really pleased with the free outfit I got in my lucky bag, here's a quick snap of my girls in their new outfits from DollHeart;

    28. oooohhhhh gorgeous! They look wonderful @rubydoll!

I don't know if I'm the first, but I ordered immediately after someone (who was it?) posted here about it and before it went up for sale, LOL. I wrote Alice's and asked them if I could order the body! It wasn't even up on Impldoll's site yet. I did ask them not to send it until after the 1st, LOL

    29. @IngieBee I haven't seen anyone posting about it, no box opening or anything so could be you're the first!

I really need a better background for my pics - there isn't even any reason for the Nivea to be still out, haven't seen the sun in months! XD And it does look a bit like Heilan (Dylan) is sniffing that veil! I was thinking winter wear would be my next theme after Christmas but now I'm thinking maybe lords and ladies even though that means a full costume change rather than just taking off Christmas jumpers and putting on coats.

    30. @IngieBee Happy New Year! I've de-lurked on this thread

@rubydoll Those dresses are fantastic! I wish I had more female-shaped dolls to buy dresses for. So far my one Impl lady is something of a Dragon Lady and rejects pretty on principle. Though seeing that resinsoul body has me worried cuz now I'm in the middle of hybriding a second doll and ooff...so tall and lanky!

    31. @A Wee Tiefling it's weird cos she photographs skinnier than she really is, I think - out of the box she seemed sturdier than I expected. What head are you hoping to hybrid with the body? I think the reason I've accumulated so many female dolls is so I can explore a variety of styles XD

    32. @rubydoll on the Resinsoul body I'm hybriding a Dollzone head, so it's probably aesthetically fine but not what I was picturing for the particular character. I have a range of MSD-sized dolls to explore style with but I'm so particular about character (and so broke) that I can't really change their styles often or play around. Eventually I want to get a few more SDs to have fun in that size range. I *need* Impldoll to do a winter event *yesterday* so I can get my motherloding Tony finally.
Need to see if I want Tony head or a body to go with him.

    33. Well, we shall see :) I'm driving my daughter up north to school and may not even be home when it arrives @rubydoll :) No lurking @A Wee Tiefling !!! LOL

    34. @A Wee Tiefling I believe Dollzone heads come quite small so it shouldn't make the body look any skinnier at least. You could probably change her shape a little with how you dress her - or you could fall into the same trap I did - "I love this body but it doesn't suit my girl so I guess I'll just have to get another head then" which is what happened with my original Model body. I have Dollheart lucky bags to credit/blame for my variety of outfits - and since I like to have themes I then end up accumulating more to accommodate everyone. It's not so bad amongst my SDs as they can all share but I have two bigger boys who are just awkward. I think Tony looks good on the default body but he could probably have a sack as a body and still look good, handsome boy!

@IngieBee oh no - I swear sometimes they wait until no-one is home before swinging by. Hope you do get her soon tho and safe journey with your daughter!

    35. @rubydoll those outfits looks amazing, i like this pink dress :-) i like ready to wear clothes, but im trying to make everything myself just for practice and to be better on next projects. oh i had plenty time to my dolls but for now i stucked with started face up of my john head and i cant finish it. im afraid to work with acrylic paints as im not so good now as i was 10 years before :-)

    36. I'd like to make more doll clothes but I'm not great at sewing by hand (I constantly stab myself then rage quit) and I can't practise much with the sewing machine. Acrylic paints are tricky - that's usually how I ruin a faceup! Less is definitely more! Have you got some drying retarder? Gives you an extra second or so to correct mistakes. Maybe you could practise with gouache? It's a bit more forgiving than acrylic. Good luck when you do pluck up the courage:cheer

    37. According to tracking, my Nic is still in China...let's hope for the best. I will be patient until January 6th. But then I will get a bit antsy.

    38. @Ipledreamer my last order I actually got a tracking number for (my Impldoll heads just showed up one day) took about a week to get here but it felt like longer because there was 6 days where it didn't seem to move. I think it was sitting in an airport waiting for a flight. Fingers crossed your wait is over soon. It's funny, I wasn't overly taken by Nic when he first came out but the more owner pics I see the more he grows on me!

    39. Good golly, I got no notice of a new thread and even no notification that my name was @ed. I like to powder up my pastels and use those instead of paint anymore. But paint is denser. I also use watercolor pencils with a very fine tip to do detailing.

I bought a new air brush and compressor 2 years ago now and never even opened them... sigh. But I've only done 2 or 3 faceups all last year, I think. Just no time and my eyes are so bad for detail. Still working on getting the glasses prescription down.

Happy New Year to everyone! May all your dolly wishes come true!

      • x 1
    40. I'd love to have a play with an airbrush but I suspect it's one of those things where if I'm not immediately awesome at it I'll give up to easily. Plus I've nowhere to use it - bad enough finding space in the garage to Dremel (although it is funny when I realise I've forgotten something and run back into the house in respirator and goggles and make the dog freak out XD ) Plus I'd probably treat it as badly as my brushes which I frequently have to rescue with Masters Brush Cleaner because I let the paint dry on them XP

Why do I keep forgetting I have watercolours in a tube? @Anita2006 The Works do a cheap set for about £4 if you want to try them out without spending much.

And pic spam because I got all my girls to line up looking pretty

[IMG]Pretty Maids All in a Row by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

Only one isn't Impldoll headed and only one is on an Impldoll body. She's so petite! I wish I had a big mantlepiece I could display them on. Next up, get the boys ready for the ball too XD

    41. Aw, hello lovely ladies! gosh, they all look so pretty and put together!! Wow!

    42. Yaaaaaaay, @chalyss, you found us!!!! I also see people using water color pencil, wetting the brush and dragging it over the pencil tip.:thumbup

@rubydoll, who is the one with the smile? She's awesome! Reminds me of my Supiadoll Hamin :)

    43. @chalyss i do have to keep an eye on Sabine tho (the ginger one ) - she's so skinny she keeps popping out of her top! Not ladylike at all!

@IngieBee she's Angel of Dream Hui Xiang with modded smaller eyes - she is fab but I still haven't managed to give her a faceup that disguises the mod. But she just keeps smiling :)

    44. She's beautiful @rubydoll as all of them are :). The dresses are amazing!

    45. Thanks @IngieBee :whee: she deserves more attention than I give her really - even her wig was one I bought for my Dylan (why did I decide he has curly hair??) which she accepted after I decided it wasn't for him. And I love Dollheart stuff. It tends to run big on my girls but it's workable.

      • x 1
    46. @rubydoll your girls look so nice :-) and yah i will try to wet watercolour and will try to make face up in this way :-) hope so to get good results.

    47. Airbrush...yeah. We have one. A really good one. Still, I am too scared to touch it. But I know someone who is a professional airbrusher. She already portrayed my daughter. So I think I will book some lessons with her. I will also aks her if I can bring one of the guys with me.

Luckily, Dr. Strange now has landed in Germany. Held in customs, of course.

      • x 1
    48. @Anita2006 at least if you go wrong with watercolours it's a lot easier to fix and you don't ruin what you've already done!

@Ipledreamer hope your airbrush adventure goes well! Hmm, I wonder if they do any classes around here - hat making, jewelry, knitting, glasswork - must be a have-a-go air brush class! I'm picturing Dr Strange sitting in customs, surreptitiously starting to create a portal only to be glared at by an official, so he sighs and lets it fizzle out XD

    49. That depends whether Impl put on his magnetic hands or not...I think he still needs fingers to create a portal?

      • x 1
    50. @rubydoll you right, watercolours is best desicion for very first face up ;-)

    51. @Ipledreamer that made me laugh - Dr Stranger's secret weakness is mittens!

      • x 1
    52. @rubydoll , I can't remember which sculpt you chose to be your Dr. Strange? So close though!!

Good luck @Anita2006 , can't wait to see!

    53. @rubydoll I love the look of your girls, they're like the Little Women and the girls of Sarah Crewe's school all in one.

    54. Aww, thanks @A Wee Tiefling :) I've been getting the boys all dressed up too but while I did line them up for a group shot, it was just after I took their Christmas jumpers off - and since the girls were already taking up the only space I could line them all up, I had to bunch them together.

@IngieBee sadly the incoming Dr Strange is not mine but @Ipledreamer 's Nicolas. I'm sure he will look the part.

Yes, keep us updated @Anita2006 - I really struggle when there's little natural light to work by so here's sending some sunshine your way!

      • x 1
    55. I really hope Iplehouse will release that Asian boy head this year, he is so cute! And more strong characters like Nicolas??!

      Well then I can't wait to see Ipledreamer's Dr. Strange :D !

    56. Hi, I hate to change the topic here, but I have a quick question. Is the event where Impldoll lets you buy just the head of dolls a yearly event? Or is it random when it happens? There's two heads (A Derrick Beast Ver. and a Chad Creature Ver.) that I'd love to get before they're potentially discontinued but I can't afford the two full dolls and would rather just get their heads for right now. Thanks for any help!

    57. Topic = Impldoll :D No change :D

I think it's random, or it sure seems that way to me? Impldoll is amazing, they want to make their customers happy. You can buy their heads, and they go for about $80 each. Their makeup service is about $40 and if you get it through Clover-singing.com you get free shipping (just make sure they understand which color you want, exactly, double check :) ) I don't think they really discontinue dolls, because they still made some of heads they took down from their site for people here who have requested them. It's just that their aesthetic changed, and I think they figured the old ones wouldn't sell anymore???

      • x 1
    58. Wait, I don't have to wait for the event to get those two heads? I can just email them and order them? :aeyepop:

    59. I'm quite certain that you can, and you can still do that through Clover-Singing or Alice's Collections if you like as well. Please let me know if they changed anything :)
