IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread part 12

Jul 26, 2018

    1. Awesome. I had a lovely long draft saved which I had to abandon before I went to work, I get back and the thread's closed and my reply is gone. I do ramble a lot so maybe it's the universe trying to make me be more concise!

This is Martin on the Star body. It's not horrendous but I never could quite decide what I didn't like about it.

[IMG]DF-H 63cm V3 Body by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

Fab body blushing @chalyss it looks very natural. The two boys I've done body blushing for both have scuffed shoulders so I'm intrigued by this Minwax lacquer - wonder if I can get it here... Or if it's like the Windsor and Newton brush cleaner I got excited about only to find the UK version is a different formulation XP Before I start I need to sand the AS body's seams. The matte, textured resin is nice but I think I would rather have smooth, seamfree resin like Impldoll.

@Mekkisry my meltdowns are usually hormonal and that knowledge helps me deal. I know that however much everything sucks right at that moment, in a few days time I won't even care. My mantra for it is "no matter how bad things might seem they can't be worse, they can't be better, because that's just the way things freaking are, and you'd better get used to it Nancy, quit your bitching". It works for me when I need to accept things I either can't change or am not willing to put the effort into changing. Being an introvert is hard because sometimes you know it would do you good to not be alone but being around people isn't easy. You can't rely on other people to make you happy but that's not to say they never will make you happy. And what's wrong with being an old hag? Okay so the media drums it in that women only have value if they're young and pretty but would you want to be friends with someone with only those two qualities? I've felt old since I was like 27 and ten years on I'm like bless, I had no idea. True I still do feel old sometimes but this is as young as I'm ever gonna be again.

I keep hearing about how fast Impldoll's site is now but I haven't had chance to check it out...

    2. @Mekkisry Oh my gosh, I went looking at tattoos to see designs and ideas, and I discovered the subtleties of white ink, which I would love to do on some girls, but then I saw this:

      And I was blown away!

Woe, @rubydoll he looks like Johnny Depp there, LOL. He does have a long neck there, but I like it, it looks especially good with that outfit. I think he is totally dapper with wild hair, which is awesome! That's really funny what you say about your meltdowns. I have had depression since I was a child, and after discovering things about myself as an adult, that is exactly what I say to myself! Knowledge is power. Otherwise I would have killed myself, :( . Brain pain is the worst!

@Chameleon I sent my two daughters to see Hamilton on the west coast (not original cast) and they had an awesome time. Congrats to you for snagging tickets! I wish I could have gone, but sitting in a chair that long puts me in so much agony, I just can't do it! Sorry I don't know how Hannah would look on a Supergem body :( Is Hannah one of the smaller heads? I did put my Narissa head on a Delf body, LOL, and it was surprisingly not the worst!?! Delfs are like 58cm

    3. There are some truly amazing tattoo artists out there. I'd seen that leg design before and was flabbergasted at how perfectly real it looks.

And yes, the Impl site pops up with all the pics much faster now. Not that it was deadly long before but there was definitely a delay previously.

    4. Thatโ€™s awesome! Iโ€™m just waiting for tickets, and hopefully Iโ€™ll get in. Iโ€™m sorry to hear about how rough sitting in a chair for that long can be.

Iโ€™m going to try her on mine once I get it back from my girlfriend drafting patterns off it!

    5. Please post how that looks :D

    6. Ooooh, got email that my Dylan's Star body with jointed hands has been shipped!!!! Woot Woot! Back to Nancy's special link to track it :D

    7. The new site IS zippy! Very nice upgrade!

@rubydoll, it's called Minwax Polycrylic Water Based Protective Finish. It's sold most commonly in pints. Maybe Amazon UK has it?

The Idol heads have HUGE peanut noggins and I think that's why they look a bit off on the shorter bodies. They benefit from the length of the bigger bodies. But again, Plaice looked good on the Star body, so it might be a head by head case. Oh, I found it! All thanks to Fishcake for this pic:

I feel like I have forgotten to answer something...

    8. Is the Minwax thing about a more... permanent solution to keeping blushing intact? I seem to vaguely remember seeing a thread about that somewhere. Maybe in the Maintenance sub-forum?

I have a doll that would greatly benefit from this as he's got full-body tiger stripes and since he's my favourite and most loved on doll, anything that would lengthen the life of his body work would be super appreciated by me.

    9. Yes! Sicktress is currently modding a doll for me and he needed to be spray painted but that chips easily and needs to be redone often. So after speaking with another doll enthusiast, he suggested minwax and so Sicktress is trying it on my guy to seal the paint. It IS removable; she managed to remove it with alcohol I think (?) when it cracked over the paint. She thinks this is due to humidity as the under paint was dry. The minwax can leave drips, but that can be sanded smooth. It is satin, so you'd need to matte it with sealant spray unless you want the shiny effect.

    10. Good to know. I need to send Moswen out to be re-painted (it's been 10 years since he was originally done) but I'm reluctant to send him away. I'm not too bothered yet most days but he needs to be re-painted, poor boy.

    11. @rubydoll Thanks for that photo! I see what you mean though. There is something slightly off about the Martin head on that Star body. At first I thought it was the head to shoulder proportion but going from Impl's site, the shoulder width is only 1cm less than the Idol body so I think you are right about the length of the body. I was browsing last night in the box opening gallery as I always like to see dolls out of the box and "IRL" so to speak, and saw someone had a Martin head on a 68cm Popodoll body (which I happen to have) and it looked pretty good. So I might even end up doing that because I really like Martin the best out of the heads I had looked at. I just have to do a bit more research before I decide as the body I have is white skin and I am sure Impl's white skin is close or at least similar.

@chalyss Ah, Plaice does look good on that body. Thanks for the photo. It's strange how some heads look good on the smaller body and others just don't. I think I will end up getting that body anyway at some later stage. As for the head, more research required on my end!

@IngieBee That carving is one really amazing piece of work. It's so intricate and detailed. I can see why you were blown away by it!

I've finally decided I will get one of the Female Star 65cm bodies (the new one). I'm just debating over which head I want on it now. It takes me months to decide on dolls as I like to be super thorough on my research. I just don't want to get something and then be disappointed and end up trying to have to make it work. Had too many of those failures over the years so I make sure to be more careful now before I purchase anything. Right now, I am madly trying to find owner photos of Crystal, Alma and Alberta as there's tons on Azalea but not as much love on the others.

    12. I have Alma! She looks a little scared all the time, which I find adorable, LOL. she is on the star body too! I'm not sure if this link works as it is taken from my own account that is logged in, but... D&D or WoW or Game themes

    13. Alma is lovely! What skin color is she?

    14. My Alma is just pink normal

    15. I need to go look at Alma. That was my grandmother's name!

      • x 1
    16. I've not had that experience with spray paint. I painted Legion... almost 3 years ago, and she hasn't chipped yet (Link, since she's OT for this thread) but I also coated the inside of her joints with acrylic paint and mod podge so that might have something to do with it.

    17. Wow, Girrl, is that glow in the dark paint or does it just look luminescent?

@nancy_schroeder_ca my grandmother's had similar names. Maybe those old names will come back in fashion again? Mine were both Elnas :)

    18. @IngieBee : I absolutely adore the Skyrim soundtrack. <3 I listen to a lot of game soundtracks in general, and that one is definitely in my top 5. Oh yeah, for sure, artists are doing some insanely wonderful things with tattoos these days. It's come so far! That picture you posted... yeah, that is spectacular. You know, as for decals, I think you could actually add color to them after transferring. Provided you were careful, of course. Pretty sure I've seen people do that? It'd probably be kind of fun to play around with, in any event. :)

@rubydoll: I most definitely have the hormonal meltdowns, as well. Really badly. I unfortunately have PMDD and it makes me feel a bit unhinged, at times (like... currently). :vein Sometimes I wonder if my mental health issues play a factor in my being an extreme introvert. I genuinely do not like showing my emotions, and even my own Mom can't tell when I'm super anxious. I hide it. I've always hidden it, because it makes me feel weak and pathetic to physically show that side of myself. Most people don't understand anyway, so... *shrug* Ugh, I hate the garbage that the media feeds to us. Women are 'supposed' to be sexy and beautiful! Women must look flawless, 24/7! Any woman over 21 is old and useless!

      .............

DOLLS, SELF. This is a DOLL forum. Um. Still no word on any upcoming events from IMPL? I'm waiting them out. I swear, the second I place an order for a body for my Nicolas, they'll then announce something. I'll be stubborn, dangit. ;)

    19. @IngieBee Thanks for that photo. She looks pretty good. I love her outfit.

@Mekkisry Isn't that always the way though? You wait for an event and then end up ordering something and the very next day, the event shows up. That's happened to me a few times now with other companies. Frustrating! I'm in the same boat though. I want to see what other events they have planned for the rest of the year but I'm okay at the moment with waiting because I am still trying to decide on head sculpt for the planned Female Star SGB body I want to order.

Speaking of, does anyone have a Delia head? Even better if it's on the Star SGB body. Do you guys think that combo might work? I've been branching out and looking more at their other female Idol heads after reading earlier in the previous thread that someone mentioned the Idol heads should work for the SGB Star body. Oh and Octavia too. I can't seem to find a lot of owner photos on her.

I know I have seen the head comparison between Azalea, Alberta and Alma but I thought there was also one with Delia and Octavia unless I am imagining it.

    20. glow paint. I carved channels into the resin, spray painted her silver, and then painted the inside of the channels (and her joints) this screaming aqua color as a base and then filled in with glow paint.
I'm actually more or less always on the look out for a body/parts to make HAL - her male counterpart (still kicking myself for not picking up that RingDoll body that was on super sale from MoC) I've been contemplating the Idol bodies for HAL, but I think they need to be a little bit taller...

    21. @shirahime when my Delia arrives, I'll be hybrid-testing her on many bodies. My shortlist are the Starwoman body, the 5stardoll body and possibly (possibly!) a Doll Family A body.

    22. @rubydoll its my thirt summer in Scotland and its best, today i enjoyed trip to Edinburgh with my mum and my daughter :-) so hot but still very nice weather :-)
im sad as i could not take my lovely dolls with me :-(

    23. @A Wee Tiefling I'll be interested to see your Delia on those bodies!

Does anyone have a comparison head of Octavia with Azalea or one of the 65cm Star girl heads? I'm trying to figure out how big her head is and if it'll look any good on the 65 Star SGB Female body.

    24. @shirahime I think I'm knocking out the Doll Family A body because the shoulders are too narrow...however I'm considering Soul Doll (they're such pretty bodies) or the new ALM doll body (it reminds me of a Renaissance nude)

    25. As is common, I believe, the discarding of a well loved thread to make a fresh start has caused much member disenfranchisement. In other words, why so dead? Can't anyone find the new thread????

OK, so I'ma gonna post a pic I took today. Nicolas as The Thinker :D I had to use a little trick to get him to bend that far forward, I had to put a pebble in his joint in the back, LOL. He was not pleased, but he managed the pose for me!!!

    27. my Aurora is on 65 cm star body :-) i checked head as i have azalea head and they are same size :-) [IMG]

      • x 1
    28. @IngieBee That's a great pose for Nicolas. Definitely brings to mind The Thinker.

@Anita2006 Thank you for posting that combination. She looks quite good on the 65 body. Is that the real skin resin or the tan? It's a nice tone.

      • x 1
    29. @shirahime she is real skin, and it looks nice. i think i have tan skin azalea head as i buyed it second hand so i dont know what colour she is but looks light tan colour :-)

    30. @Anita2006 Very cool look for your lady. (I want to get a real skin Tony some day for my Delia...) I love the muscle body too, I'm hoping to get that some day. (Big sigh) dolls are a terrible affliction

    31. @A Wee Tiefling I gotta say, a lack of funds is a great cure for that affliction, as I am currently on that medicine and it's working quite well, LOL. Luckily I have orders I am awaiting, so it's not painful yet :whee:. But when they arrive, I better have my sewing area set up or I'm going to have some angry naked dollies LOL.

I'm actually waiting on my Dylan's body, but it hasn't moved in 6 days :pout:. I have no clothing for him, but my Nicolas should have the black shadow outfit in the box, which has me super excited!!!

So... I still need to sculpt those elf ears.... And... I feel so alone here, where is everyone? :...(:...(:...(:...(

LOL, I'm sure you are all in a nice place vacationing, I mean, why else would you abandon me! :horror:

      :shudder:dance:cheer:celebrate:shudder LOL :XD::whee:;)

    32. I have a resin addiction. When I started in this hobby, I said I'd have 2 *laughs hysterically*. I now own 52 dolls from 31 companies. I bought 4 dolls in the last 4 months *winces*. That I can afford it is beyond the point. I have 52 dolls. I know there's people with many more than that. I'm stunned that I own that many. I love them all and I'm beyond fortunate to have finally managed to get my 2 grails but... it's definitely an addiction.

And I have a doll currently being held hostage in Customs *sighs*. He entered on the 26th and there's been no movement since then. The last time I received a package from the US (doll clothes only, no doll) was about a month ago and I think that package sat in Customs for... 8-9 days? They didn't open it or anything (but nailed me for fees *sigh*) so what the heck are they doing with it? Give me my dolly!

    33. I think my Delia's head arrived but I won't be able to pick her up until Wednesday or Thursday! Now to get serious about bodies. And wigs. Also eyes.
Sh--t, I was so not prepared for yet another doll. @IngieBee Yeah that is a good cure, but it doesn't work on me, I have the placebo affect of "ignore the bills" thing.

    34. LOL, @A Wee Tiefling , don't do that!! LOL. Congrats on the (almost home) Delia! I hope you can get her sooner than later!

@Iron_Dog , with the wonderful and unique characters you make, that must be an amazing collection!

Today I decided to browse pictures of Aurora, and I came accross a picture of her head next to Nicolas, and felt panic run through me. I added Aurora on a whim as part of my special skin color order because I wanted a more mature head for another Supiadoll 65cm body. I really like that body as it poses really well. But I thought Aurora was more like Lydia in size. @Anita2006 , is the head so different? Or was it a trick of the camera?

I know one thing with imple heads is they sculpt huge craniums, LOL, but their faces are in scale. This matters because, once you put a wig on they just look like they have 'big hair' and come from Texas (jk) but are otherwise in scale. I just hope she won't be way off scale because matching the resin will become a new unwanted pain in the tush! LOL. Who has that stunning Aurora in a blue dress that caused me to get her? @chalyss, was that you??? LOL

PS: more Aurora, Lydia, Narissa, Alma, Sophia....just more girl spam please, and while we're at it, please some boys too? Tank, Plaice or any boys? LOL. Thanks!!!

      • x 2
    35. I need more Tony and Joshua spam. Oooo, and an elusive Harwick wouldn't go amiss either.

    36. Harwick? I've never seen that name!?!? I'm off to find now, LOL.

BTW, does "processing" mean anything at Alice's collections? Or is that what my order said after I paid? I can't remember, but I'm hoping it means my order is getting close to shipping (fingers crossed)

    37. @IngieBee I think processing just shows up after you paid. They are pretty good and send out a shipping email when things ship. If you're concerned, pop them through an email. I find they are very fast with answering and very helpful. I order from them quite regularly. Always bits 'n' pieces.

I've also noticed the massive noggin syndrome with Impldolls. And I agree that it makes their head look bigger with wigs on. It's part of the reason that I am still uncertain I want to get a head made for the Idol body for the 65cm body. Although their older dolls I don't believe were like that. My Christopher, their older elf sculpt has a normal sized noggin.

@A Wee Tiefling Will look forward to seeing your Delia girl.

    38. @IngieBee I have quite the varied collection both in style and sizes. I never intended for so many of mine to be the rarely seen/unusual/weird dolls but there you have it. Both my Impl boys are limited. Mkhai is Miguel the Demon Hunter and Malachite is a Simon Colourful Life Green. I love the transparent green resin they used for his hands and ears. He's even got the default Impl face-up (I bought him 2nd hand from a friend here on DoA) and I wish my camera could pick up the very subtle glitter/pearl in his face-up.

And Customs ha released the hostage! Finally! Tracking says he'll be delivered tomorrow and I expect to get hit with fees *sighs*.

    39. Here's a rare one- old Starman Eldrich head on a male to female muscle Miro body. IN FACT, this might be the head I'd need to point to for my matching tutorial because I kept the faceup and just enhanced it:

      Thistle the Little Giantess

The head is tan and the body is spray painted Barbarian Flesh.

      This is how she finished:

      Thistle

Not a perfect match, but close.

      • x 3
    40. Wow, you turned a male muscle body into a female???? That looks amazing @chalyss!

LOL, @shirahime I can't bug them, I've added to my order like 4 times, was a month late sending my sample in, LOL, I'd rather not bug them anymore. They are great though, and have been super helpful!! I was just hopefull that maybe my dolls were soon on the move :D

    41. Thank you! But I didn't do that mod, Sicktress did. A few times, in fact! I have another she did too. Ill get pics of it!

    42. Well, it's awesome! I can't wait to get my night elf together, but I've been such a chicken, LOL. Now I can't find my Apoxy Putty when I get my gumption together, LOL.

I'd love to see more pictures too :).

    43. So, I found this picture on a search, and I feel infinitely better about Aurora's head size, LOL. Obviously, the other picture I saw was an optical illusion. Aurora's head looks to be the same size as Lydia and Alma's heads :D Whew! That one picture kind of freaked me out, because I know Nicolas's head is huge! LOL

    44. Nicolas definitely does have a huge head. It's weirdly shaped, too. Kind of like a light bulb? That forehead is really kind of epic, and I think in his case, he NEEDS a wig with some form of bangs. I've still not ordered anything, and he still doesn't have a body (or a faceup).

The thing is, I can't seem to find any inspiration??? :doh I feel weirdly stagnant. Like, I've suddenly run out of any form of creativity whatsoever. If I even had any, in the first place? *snort*

      I'm stuck, dangit.

    45. @Mekkisry, I didn't find his head to be particularly bulbus, but he is a big boy! LOL My Husband and Son also have huge heads, so I may be used to the look, LOL. Fairyland also makes huge noggens for the size of the face. I have a Russian doll who's sculpt is more realistic, and she seems off to me now due to being so used to Fairyland dolls!

Anyway, if you don't absolutely hate cleaning off faceups, I suggest giving him one you know you are going to wipe, as it takes the fear of imperfection away. And as you put on color, you will start to see what you want him to be and hopefully get inspired! I did that with my grey Lydia and now I know I don't want those colors. Unfortunately, I hate cleaning faceups, ROFL. But I do know now where I want to go with her look now!

Oh my goodness! So I'm here, having trouble sleeping, writing on the boards, I just check my tracking for Dylan's body, which has had no updates since initial shipping on the 25th, and it has arrived at the local distribution center, which normally means it'll be delivered tomorrow (today, it's past midnight, LOL)

    46. @chalyss That transformation looks pretty awesome. I actually would not have guessed that it was a male to female mod if you hadn't mentioned it. Sicktress did a fantastic job with it. And the body blushing to match is fantastic.

@IngieBee That's exciting. Shipping from overseas is weird like that. It just doesn't seem to update much at all.

Strangely enough, I find removing face ups quite therapeutic.

      • x 2
    47. @IngieBee i think some peach pastels on some peace of face will help to match body, i will try as i will do that first time ( blush head with pastel ). there is no big diferent depends from what side you look into doll :-D with clothes he looks ok.

    48. I went hermit from this thread for a while because of real life concerns and multiple bereavements in a day, but hopefully I could be more active again. :)

To start over, here's my two big dolls with their Impl bodies (oh how I love the poseability of the first gen Idol man) in their most recent photoshoot, with a chilling cat on the side.

    49. I love how your cat is just chilling in that shot.

    50. Thanks @shirahime and @Anita2006 :D

I'm so sorry you're going through tough times, @AntarelNefertili :( I hope you have lots of love surrounding you. Your couple are amazing and that's a beautiful picture :)

    51. @AntarelNefertili I'm sorry for your losses, I recently went through that myself and the sadness never really leaves, even if life goes on.
      -
      -
My Delia head arrived and I'm going to do something wacky and try her on a NYiD body from Iplehouse. I'm trying for something short and curvy but easy to shop for and easy to pose (and those Idol female bodies are just too big for weak, pitiful me)

      • x 1
    52. I will have something for you soon! I am just so sloooow right now but I have vacation this weekend so YAY! I will Get things Done!
Plus yours will be easier than most, I think. Such a close match, just needs darkening. It's all about bringing the color of his body into his face and facial skin is rarely exactly the same as neck and body skin unless one makes it a point to tan evenly.

@shirahime, thank you! I find blushing to match a lot of fun! Sicktress does amazing mods! She blows me away with what she can do. I need to be more fearless! But this one's spray paint wasn't sealed and she has some chipping here and there, which I ignore. She needs gems glued to her anyway, so I can hide those things. Blushing this mush does take up a huge amount of pastel and sealant though! Lots of layers.

    53. Well, Dylan's body arrived, and unfortunately there is a huge difference in resin color. Is that normal? At least the body is darker. I wonder if I should just wait a few months, maybe it'll even out? The body is so much redder - which is the color that fades the most?? The head is only a few months older??? Unfortunately, his jointed hands didn't come with him, so I'll probably have a 3rd color on his body, LOL. Also, I guess they meant that the clothes will come with my next order, because they didn't ship with Dylan's body. That's kind of a bummer because I'd like to see the boys somewhat finished.

Well, here he is, quick hot outside picture, ugh!

      [IMG]IMG_20180801_150226229 by ingiebee, on Flickr

Do you guys think the red will fade and fit the head eventually?

    54. Despite differences, he's a hottie!! And I'd ask them about the hands and clothes, just to be sure they didn't forget.

They changed their resin, so the color changed. Maybe if we made enough fuss, they'd change it back because this is silly. However, it is the nature of the beast and part of the risk of buying from different batches. (Soom is notorious for having the body a different color from the head /in the same order/. Resin gets tricky.) Red fades fastest but sometimes it's to green. *pulls a face* hopefully that doesn't happen. He'll be easy enough to blush to match, just add some of the body color to the face and the face color to the body, especially on the neck tendons and collar bone, but at least he's handsome no matter what! (and I doubt they'll ever truly match even given time. Maybe, you never know, but that's a fairly big difference. The new body looks like an Iplehouse Peach gold or a Soom tawny.)

Those are both tan skins? Or is the head a Real Skin?

    55. Ignore my horrible back yard, I'm trying to save up to have it fixed up :) Anyways, here are the boys side by side, so you can see idol and star differences. I think they look awesome together!

    56. Yah, I better blush to match :) , just wanted to check, @chalyss. It is the antiUV resin, so I hope it's stable!! Also, I just shot them an email to let them know the body arrived and that I didn't get the hands or clothes :)

    57. Both are anti UV tan? Or is one Anti UV tan and one Anti UV real?

Anyway, I really wanted to say: Clothes?? We don't need no stinking clothes! (Dylan is YUM!!! So is Nic!)

    58. Red can fad fairly quickly so I would wait a bit. Sometimes heads look lighter becase they have been sprayed with MSC or a similar sealant. You may want to compare the body to the inside of the head cap. If you hadn't mentioned it, I don't think I would have noticed the difference.

    59. They are supposed to be antiUV tan. Whcih one looks like real please? :D I might use this as an excuse to get another head and body, LOL

Yes, @nancy_schroeder_ca but the color is actually the same on the headcap :) Getting the facebook heads was an ordeal of confusion, so to be honest, I can't trust what I ordered is what I received. Yet, I'd love to actually know what everything is, LOL.

I think my Narissa which was accidentally sent to me, is actually real skin antiuv but ?? I don't rightly know?!! LOL That's much lighter.
