Peakswoods Fairies of Colors Discussion PART VIII

Apr 2, 2018

    1. I'm thinking of ordering Mona before her sales period ends, but I have a few questions about Peakswoods resin colors that I was hoping someone could answer!

      1. Is the WS difficult to photograph? I've noticed paper white dolls don't photograph easily, but more off-white colors are just fine.
      2. How quickly does NS yellow?

Thanks in advance for any help! :kitty2

      -------- Added notes --------

This is the new thread for the lovely Peak's Woods FoC girls!!
Peak's Woods Absolute Beauty girls and the Re-designed girls can be discussed here too!!

    2. Thanks very much for the link ! You're girl is super cute! Love her resin colour! :love

    3. Using flash can make it interesting to photograph the white, but then I find it makes doll photography more difficult in general. If you have a separate light, like a bright lamp, you can just turn your camera's flash off. (For an example, my avatar is a Peaks Woods Tristan in white.) I've had a NS head for about a year, and there hasn't been any obvious yellowing.

    4. I have a NS Peakswood doll from 2014 and a NS head from Peakswoods from a year ago and haven't noticed any color differences.

    5. @NekoNyanMew

To make it easier to shoot white dolls, you can diffuse the light with fabric or a softbox, or point a light at a ceiling or wall so you're bouncing the light rather than hitting the doll directly. In my picture at post #1018 I used a studio spot with a softbox pointed up at the wall behind me, and a small desklight pointed at the ceiling above the doll.

The old PW white was more white than the newer dolls which are are a tiny bit pinkish. I have a five year old PW doll and some newer ones and I haven't noticed any real yellowing in either.

    6. Thank you :). I love the color too

      1) I don't find it harder to photograph my ws girls then my other ones. Just got to watch the light levels (@dollhausen hit the mark with diffusing the light) and give enough contrast with the background.

      2) I haven't noticed yellowing on my ns girls yet although it can be hard to say without a doll to compare to. I got 3 girls, two from 2015 and the other 2016.

On a similar topic... Does anyone have tips for photographing the girls with half closed eyes? In the past, I've had to do a lot of shenanigans to get the light to hit my girls eyes. I think my WS WU Lottie is the hardest of the bunch. *_*

    7. lol I'd like to hear some of those tips too!

    8. @EmmiImee and @krystina - For the dreaming eyes I like to get really light colored eyes, my preference is urethanes, but I think any eyes that catch the light will work.

Basically for indoors I do everything @dollhausen suggested.

I use multiple light sources as overhead light makes hooded shadows under the eyes, so an additional soft diffused light in front or to the side of the doll works. (I don't have professional equipment, so this is usually a table lamp or desk lamp with a scarf or other thin piece of fabric draped over it - just make sure your lamp doesn't get too hot and you don't keep the fabric on too long or your fabric can catch fire.) I also sometimes turn a desk lamp around & let the light reflect off a light surface, such as a light colored wall or off a piece of paper to get a soft light effect.

For outdoors I think it's important to shoot dreaming dolls either in the morning or evening with the doll mostly facing the sun for the best reflection of the eyes.

    9. Thanks for the tips faireva! I never thought of using thin fabric to cover a lamp (it's to soften the lighting right?)
YAY FOR NEW THINGS TO TRY :o!

      • x 1
    10. @krystina - Yes, exactly, to soften the light so the doll doesn't look like it's in a spotlight. :daisy

    11. New Oscardoll eyes for Selmy :whee::
I put more eye pictures in the Oscar Eyes thread.

    12. Oh I am so glad you posted Selmy here. I saw him in the Oscar Eye photo thread and was dying to say something about how beautiful he is. Those eyes are beautiful too and look perfect in him.

    13. Thank you so much caddyvamp :whee:

    14. What a beautiful doll you have!!

    15. Thank you paxita!!

    16. Very gentle boy. New eyes he really goes! Show more often!

    18. Thank you for showing such beauty. He's really cute. Please tell me you have it on native corporate body?

    19. Yes, he is on his normal body from Peakswoods. I highly recommend it, its sculpted really well and poses well too. I especially like the hands - nimble looking and expressive:blush

    20. Thank you, I'll keep that in mind. Me, too, very likes this body, very graceful and refined.

    21. I received two dolls last month! My Hunky Dory in lavender pink and Rosemii Blossom in pink punch skin. They have both been on layaway for quite a long time. I honestly didn't expect my Rosemii to arrive this quickly (I paid her off in January), but it was such a nice surprise to get her home so soon :D

Here are some photos of my lovely new girls:
      [IMG][IMG]

I've decided to name them Elune and Lilith. I love them SO much! :aheartbea

    22. They are gorgeous :D

    23. YOUR GIRLS ARE AMAZING!:D I think I want a Rosemii Blossom now lol . Fantastic faceups as expected from Peakswoods :whee:

    24. They are both gorgeous :) I've always had a soft spot for Rosemii Blossom :D

    25. @Calfuray your girls are amazing and your photos are so pro quality. I just received a Rosemii too and just love her. Hunkey Dorey is also one of my favorites - so odd and quirky - but yours is beyond beautiful.

    26. I got my Little Lottie in and had to share her next to big Lottie! They matched her features in the FoB size perfectly!! Although it does appear they made Little Lottie’s cheeks a tad chubbier :XD: and I have to say the FoB Muse body lives up pretty well next to the Lolita body! I know this is the FoC thread but I had to share the side by side here in case anyone was curious about the Lottie’s little sister :whee:

I also heard on instagram a FoB release is due this month, and a FoC release due in June!

    27. Your Lottie's are so precious :whee: They look so cute together.

    28. Very cute! I hope they do a wakeup Lottie at some point for FOB, it would be adorable with the pouty cheeks!

    29. They are stunning! And the face-ups look wonderfull, makes me sad I did not order my Goldie with a face up from peakswoods. Already loved the hunky dory sculpt but seeing her with this kind of skin colour makes it even harder to not order one. Even tho I promised myself to not buy anymore dolls untill I finish the face-ups on the ones I already own. Luckily the sales are closed at the moment on the site.

    30. @hsifalissa Thank you! :blush

@krystina Thank you so much, dear! You should go for it! I love my Rosemii Blossom and they did such an amazing job with her faceup :love

@EmmiImee Thank you! Rosemii is my favorite sculpt, so when they released the Blossom version I knew I had to add her to my collection :whee:

@caddyvamp Aw, thank you for the sweet compliment! I love taking photos of my girls. "Quirky" is a great way to describe Hunky Dory! She has a very unique aesthetic, which is why I had to get her :D

@Cuteasadoll I absolutely adore your two Lotties! Their chubby cheeks are so cute! I want to pinch them! :chibi

@Mademoiselle Grymms Thank you! I love Peak's Woods' faceups, but I've seen a lot of gorgeous custom ones too. I'm sure your girl will be amazing! :aheartbea Maybe you can get Hunky Dory when you have finished your other dolls? I'm sure they will make her available again someday.

    31. Love seeing the Lottie sisters! Beautiful faceups, and Little Lottie's blushing chubby cheeks and small, delicate hands are so adorable. Also appreciating the dusty rose/earth tones, it gives their portrait a gentle, harmonious feeling. (Seeing how cute they look together makes me wonder how I have resisted the FOB size so far!)

    32. New pic on twitter of their FoB Dottie Muse. What a beaut!:D

    33. Peak’s Woods just told me that they will be re-releasing FOB Romantic Dotty Muse, Lottie and Yeru soon!
I’m trying to convince myself not to buy one this time.. Although I’m very much in love with both R. Dotty Muse and Lottie :D

      • x 1
    34. @Calfuray join the Lottie Squad :XD: I wonder what the other basic listings will look like!

      • x 1
    35. R. Dotty Muse and Yeru looks so dreamy and cute - it will be hard to resist especially since its seems Peakswoods will be having a sale on the Fant16 to FOB lines :shudder

Sorry for the poor quality but this is all I can show you all. My FoC Goldie finally has a faceup, got her a gorgeous outfit, and new pair of eyes~
Now that Peakswoods is releasing a new event I really to order but still thinking about which ones.
Oh sorry I'll be posting here from now on since my Goldie is ready to be shown ^_^;. I just need to buy more outfits for her x-x.

    37. @BlueyKiwi Congrats on finishing your doll! Her face up looks adorable. Beutifull eyes btw, really give her this enchanting gaze.

    38. Elune and Lilith are gorgeous!

@Cuteasadoll your Lotties are adorable together.

And your FOC Goldie looks beautiful, @BlueyKiwi ! I love her faceup. :D

I am in the process of FINALLY painting my Hunky Dory Blue.

    39. I was so bad! I finally got the shipping notification from DDE that my Tristan had shipped (she’s arriving today!) and I saw that they had a vamp Rosemii in stock. So now I have her arriving on Tuesday! Peaks girls are taking over my life! Vamp Rosemii will go perfectly with my human Rosemii.

    40. Requesting some rosemii spam! Such a beautiful sculpt!

    43. My Hunky Dory Blue's faceup is now done, except for eyelashes, which I still need to order. I hadn't done a faceup in like a year or nearly a year or something like that so I was a little rusty, but I think it turned out ok.

    45. Thank you so much! Now if only I could get eyelashes down! :XD:

One of these days I’m going to order a Peak’s Woods doll with a company faceup. Perhaps one of the boys since I still don’t have any Dandy’s at all yet.

    46. Your girls are so, so beautiful...thank you for sharing (ꈍᴗꈍ)♥ Were their faceups a special request or custom order? They're so lovely, but they looked a little different than what I've seen on Peak's Woods website and I was just curious :3 Could you also please tell me what skin colors these are? I'm really in love with these faceup + skin tone combinations... <3

    47. @Muhtooz thank you! They are both Peaks Woods faceups, my Wake Up Lottie is in Suntan with the White Rabbit Rosemii faceup (was an option available during the FoC 7 day event last year). My Little Lottie is in Pink Punch with her default faceup but I requested some freckles :3nodding:

    48. @suruni Love that photo. The jointed hands are...brilliant. That's what I needed here:

Very ghostly indeed! Nice picture! That's a sweet outfit.

    52. Thank you! It is a hodgepodge of several different Steampunk and Victorian outfits along with a few of my handmade things.

    53. @SteamWitch: Wow I'm really digging the steampunk style! Really well done.

    54. Thank you, I try :whee:. I finally got a photo of his face in focus, dark clothes and white resin make it very difficult.

    55. Got to love that steam punk vibe, plus nice scenery in the back. Do you seriously have a whole doll bar? Because that's awesome haha!

    56. Haha! Yes, I seriously have a whole doll bar. The Pointless Pub takes up the whole corner of one room, the Vampire Den is below one side and there is storage beneath the other.

    57. @SteamWitch yup now I definitely need a bigger house to do something like that (or convince my partner that we don't need a bedroom) .

On a side note, I've pulled my countess out of her coffin. Or we'll atleast her head, her body is so naked it's to confronting of me not sewing clothes for her. Not that the head doesn't need some work, horns aren't finished, this wig needs untangling and well the biggest thing redoing her face up. All tho I do like it somehow I can't stand the cross I drew on her forehead. Anybody any experience with removing just part of a face up?

    58. @SteamWitch, I can't begin to tell you how epic your Pointless Pub is! It's absolutely magical and so is your steampunk boy!:fangirl:

@Mademoiselle Grymms, I have quite an amount of experience with this.:) What I do is this: I use non-acetone fingernail polish remover on a q-tip, and work very carefully on the area I need removed. It may take a few tries but it works really well. If you need to work a particular resistant or tiny area, I sometimes use a toothpick with the end blunted by sandpaper as a tool. Once it's gone completely, give it a wash with a little soap and water on another q-tip just in that area, then rinse with another q-tip dipped in water. Then, once completely dry, cut a hole to that size in a paper towel, place the opening over the area, and spray with your regular sealant. It always works like a charm for me. In fact, I just did this yesterday to remove some company lips I wasn't particularly fond of.

    59. @PoeticSoul at first I had put it as a rhetorical question, but nice to hear there is a way! Thank you very much for this tip:)!

    60. @PoeticSoul thats a great tip! I’ll be sure to use it!
@SteamWitch seeing your bar all together is sooooo impressive :abow:
