Jul 31, 2019

    1. It has been a long, busy month with so many unexpected twists and turns. Triathlon participants created gorgeous wigs, crafted amazing outfits, and had to stretch their budget and supplies farther than ever in creating a diorama!
Our mod team had unexpected challenges as well - thank you all so much for being patient with our voting and entry delays and our technical difficulties!

We'd like to extend a special thanks to our just for fun entries.

The moderation time thanks the three of you for sharing your wonderful work with the forum!

And now for the moment we've all been waiting for...

Welcome to the Great Triathlon of 2019!

      In this triathlon:

    2. To everyone participating: Give it your best !!!
      :cheer:cheer:cheer

      It's a very rewarding contest,
      and I'm not talking about prizes here;
It's about knowing you did your best and be proud of your achievements.

Don't be afraid to challenge yourself!
      Dare push your limits further.

    3. I'm going to echo @Lawrichai here! The triathlon in past years pushed me to try things I would never have even thought about trying on my own, and I learned some new techniques and ideas along the way. Sure, it's awesome to win a great prize, but sometimes in the long run, the things you learn to do or the things you make end up being a prize of their own.

Good luck everyone, can't wait to see entries!

    4. If anyone is having self doubt or thinking that their creation won't be 'good enough' please put that thought aside! The only way to fail is to fail to try and then it will be 100% your own doing. I can't wait to see the entries. It was an absolute blast to make!

    5. I always look forward to the triathlon every year! Let's give it our best!

My first idea for this round was a complete flop :sigh but tomorrow I'm going to start over using different materials. Still plenty of time, right? :XD:

      • x 4
      • Cake Cake x 1
    6. Yes yes @BabySnow ! Go go! You can finish it in time! *flails* :cheer

      • x 2
    7. First round is ending in about two days people, can you all make it? :cheer Go, go everyone!

    8. Wait, what? Somehow I got confused and thought there was another week in round one. *starts getting her hustle on*

    9. I finally managed to find a solution for my wig that (hopefully) works! I'm doing my best to get this finished in time. Good luck to everyone else still messing with their wigs!

ETA: This is my first ever contest on DoA, or with BJDs involved in general, so I'm really excited to get to give it a go!

    10. My wig is finished, but my phone camera is more messed up than I thought! :...( I need to figure something out fast. I've been wanting a DSLR, but just for a contest? :chomp:

    11. Heck yeah! Good enough reason to me!!!!
Seriously though, second hand DSLRs can be had for relatively reasonable prices.

Go guys go! We got this! (We do got this, right?)

    12. If DoA contests have taught me anything, it's that I can complete a project in a single day if I get motivated and really focus.
There's still time left, if you're not finished or haven't started, it's not too late, go go go! :sumomo: The only thing that guarantees you won't win is not entering at all! :dance

      • x 2
    13. I made my wig I just need to get pictures tomorrow :sumomo: go go everyone! We got this!

    14. Another tip, try not to wait until the last minute to edit and post your images. It can take longer than you expect, you start sweating, and sometimes things go wrong ...and then you miss the deadline and everything is covered in paint because your entry isn’t even dry yet.

Uh, I speak from experience.

      • x 2
    15. Finally got some downtime so I'm gonna work on mine! I've got two goals for this year...use only supplies I already own (no more shopping) and finish the triathlon! <3

      • x 1
    16. I only have to do the detail pictures after exhausting myself for one picture yesterday XD I really want a macro lens

    17. Got my entry submitted! I wanted to finish early as my internet is unreliable and I wanted plenty of time in case it decided to give me fits. This is my first time participating in a DOA contest too.

    19. 12am is midnight but the next challenge isn't up and it is now 7:40 am unless you meant noon which is pm

      Could the Moderators please clarify?

    20. Working on it as we speak, should be up soon! ;)

    22. Where is the post for triathlon round 1 voting? :?

      • x 7
    23. @vam31, I am pretty sure that they had a lot of entries, so that will take a bit of time.

    24. Voting will be coming soon - we have been working on getting it up and running, it's just not ready quite yet!

      • x 9
    25. Please remember:
This is run by volunteers, a lot of work goes into running this forum that we do not see.
Please, please, please understand and be patient :abow:

      • x 3
    26. Yes! It’s soooo hard to stay patient over something so exciting, but I’m sure there are a ton of entries that need to be checked and prepared for posting, and that takes a lot of time, especially considering mods have real lives outside of DoA that require attention too.

      • x 1
      • x 6
    27. All of you who entered did amazing work! I had a really hard time narrowing it down to only three, there's a lot more of you I wish I could have voted for!

      • x 4
    28. When will we be able to see the number of votes (of the finished rounds)?

    29. Voting results for Round 1 will be up sometime tomorrow - we have a lot of votes to process so we appreciate your patience! I know how hard it can be to wait for results!

      • x 3
    30. *drum roll*

The votes are in and revealed, please check the voting thread to find out the result for the first round of voting! Woooo! :cheer

Also be sure you grab a cake, so you have enough stamina to finish the last round *starts to hand out cake*

      • Cake Cake x 1
    33. You guys made it seriously tough again! I definitely said "oooh!" and "wow!" way more than four times.

    34. With the third challenge completed and submitted, my goal of completing the Triathlon is met.

I've always wanted to try it, the challenge of pushing my creativity and ingenuity. but every year I had never been mentally prepared for the whole month of crafting doll items.
This year I was ready, and with a bit of encouragement from friends and family I finally did it! :cheer

      • x 5
    35. Same here @Elysion gear! I've been a member here for 12 years and it's just the second contest I've entered ever. I really wanted to take part in the triathlon last year, I was so ready, and then... there was no triathlon :frownyblush: So I had to stay ready for a whole another year. :XD:

This one was really hard in comparison to previous ones so huge congratulations to everyone who made it through this year! Can't wait to see all the entries. :)

    36. Now that the competition is over, it feels kind of weird not to have a project deadline hanging over me. :sweat
I guess I need to try coming up with a project of my own.

      • x 1
    37. I recommend Instagram challenges! 30 days of BJD photos with certain themes for example. They really push you creatively. :)

    38. There's an idea!

      • x 2
    39. I must say that of all the astonishing triathlons over the years, this one has been my absolute favorite. I have watched and anticipated and drooled and lingered over every step of your journey, and have enjoyed every moment. Your creativity and ingenuity every step of the way has been absolutely awe inspiring! You have all completely dazzled me!:cheer

      • x 4
    40. When the triathlon is over and all votes tallied are we allowed to upload our entries as a gallery post so people know who we are?

    41. Once the results are posted, everyone can share their work and discuss it! :)

      • x 3
    42. I've felt the same way this week, felt empty not having some new challenge looming, a new deadline in sight.
But it's been a tonne of fun participating, just to think so many of us have made both wigs, outfits and a diorama in only 3 weeks time! That's quite the feat!

      • x 3
    43. I agree with everyone's sentiments! On one hand I'm glad it's over because I had quite a lot of small stuff piling up during that last week of the challenge, but on the other, I enjoyed myself so much especially with the diorama. It really made me remember how much I love crafting things like that, and I've decided to do at least a couple more rooms to use for my other dolls.

I'm really amazed at the overall quality throughout the triathlon; this is my first time even being around DoA when it's going on so it was something entirely new for me, and I'm already looking forward to killing my fingers again in the future when this will (hopefully!) happen again! :D

    45. Congrats to the winners!!

Mine was the kitty girl in the ramen shop. Considering how much work I put into her, I was a little disappointed at how low I ranked, especially on round two, but I have to admit the competition was strong this year, so it shouldn’t be too surprising. :sweat And Jane says she would be happy to wear that dress forever, so it’s not a real loss. Lol

Now that it’s over, I wanted to say to whoever had the two story diorama with the stairs and the waterfall, that thing was impressive!! It was one of my favorites.

And in round one, the geisha with the candy hair was one of my top choices, I had really hoped to see what you’d do in future rounds. So cool!

And all around—Link managed to be a top fave in every round, but that diorama was awesome! I kind of wish I could play in it myself. :D

    47. Congratulations to the winners! It was great to see all the creativity.

    48. Congratulations to my fellow co-winners, and to all of you who made it through all 3 challenges! So much creativity, you guys are absolutely awesome! Had way too much fun participating, would definitely recommend others to do so next year.
And a big thank you to the mods, who I bet worked their asses off to keep track of everything, answering questions and managing their own life on the sidelines! It's been amazing!

    50. Congratulations to the winners for well deserved victories. Like many others, I thought there were so many great entries that it was hard to decide who to vote for. Thank you to those who voted for my entry (Felicity Flowers). The contest was so much fun just to participate and I am very proud of myself for finishing all three rounds. Kudos to everyone.

    51. Congrats to the winners! You guys did such a good job!

I loved everyone's entries, you could see the hard work in every one. I think the autumnal centaur was one of my top faves tho.

Really enjoyed this experience, it really pushed me out of my comfort zone and solidified that I never want to build a diorama again. XD

    52. Congratulations winners! Your entries were beautiful!!

    53. Congratulations all winners! And all the rest of us who survived the challenge! :XD: It was a lot of fun and the level of skill was amazing!

I've been a bit sad constantly throughout the marathon I only got my idea for the wig so late and didn't manage to finish it to be quite as nice as I hoped. xD But thanks to continuing through I now have a useful diorama and clothing for a doll that didn't really have any that suited her, so I call this a huge win overall, even if the participation itself wasn't ridiculously fun on it's own. ;D (My nickname was Afoot and I did things from can nibs, for those interested.)

Thank you so much to the mods for taking the time and effort to run this!! I'll definitely be participating in the future as well! :D

    54. Congratulations to us all!!!

I find myself remembering why I don't like competitions, for all those(and me) who work hard and get little or no recognition... but with that BIG point set aside I did enjoy participating - mine was Doll Chateau Noah and seeds theme... some few seeds have started sprouting in his diorama ...and his seed hair is holding up so well, I may have to give him a new one yearly, but it suits him so well, and I know I wouldn't have thought of it without this challenge...

I found so many amazing bits that others have done... I hope to sort out who you are and begin to follow you here.
