Briefly describe your entry's concept: For this outfit I was inspired by rave and festival wear and I wanted to make something with shifting colors to match the wig. I ended up going with a holographic party dress with iridescent angel wigs sewn to the back because the angel wings seemed like a funny idea for a demon girl, and the character would definitely love it. I kept the construction simple with a fun silhouette because I didn't want to steal the show from the color shifting materials. Doll company & head sculpt: Peak's Woods Monster Dlight 1. Briefly describe your entry's concept: Having made a paper wig for a gentle studious fairytale doll, it seemed that only a paper outfit would do. The sleeves, very top of the bodice and the gathering on the trims are all sewn, but the bulk of the bodice and the skirt are made from decoupage papers and glue paste, molded on the doll over cling film to be form fitting then carefully cut open so fastenings could be added on ribbon. Multiple glue layers add strength to the thin paper and flexibility for dressing. The lower flounces are all paper - a gold tissue that is designed as a table runner, more decoupage paper and some of the same old books that formed her wig with a little yarn and ribbon on top. The teabag in the materials shot was genuinely used to dye white lace to an aged cream for the neckline to echo the colour of the books. Finally the embellishments on the doll's necklace and on the back of her skirt echo the sea theme of the embellishments in her wig. The overall outfit is clearly a special occasion dress - with the gold and the lace it couldn't be anything else, but the glued paper has a sturdy, more leatherlike look, very suitable for a traveling scholar in a storybook world. Briefly describe your entry's concept: I wanted to stay a bit with the knight theme so I made so plate part with similar colors than the parts on the wig and used some ribbons glued on an old shopping bag for the silver ones and from chocolate packaging for the chest parts. I used the leftover papers from the previous round. I went simple with the dress using the beige and light brown to make the pink of the wig contrast. All parts can be placed on most parts of the body to change the look of the outfit as I want. Doll company & head sculpt: Granado Mercury 1. Front view of your doll standing wearing the outfit: 2. Briefly describe your entry's concept: I want to create a Roman inspired outfit for her. She's a brooding little thing, So I chose a darker color for the over tunic. I embroidered feathers to echo her avian features, and the plant border was based off a pattern I saw on a piece of pottery. Her necklace and arm band are based off extant Roman jewelry finds, as no lady should be with out a few pieces. I tried to keep to colors that matched her hair, but I only had blue seed beads and I"m trying not to spend money on this challenge. Doll company & head sculpt: Soom Alk 1. Briefly describe your entry's concept: A single look can’t describe a person’s whole, so don’t judge a book by its cover. Hiding your true self can be intentional or not or a mystery. The truth here, is cute but elegant, while being brightly colored as well as a bit simplistic. This little lady is here to show off in her own way This outfit is very loosely based on the original image that inspired the existence of the character, along with some other references ad inspirations. Briefly describe your entry's concept: Tale of a love triangle - Columbine loved Pierrot, then she loved Harlequin. The performer's outfit reflects the melancholy of that love story - Harlequin's checkers, with Pierrot's colours. The outfit is designed to recreate the loose-fitting garb of the traditional clown outfit, whilst reflecting the need to move freely/look richly made of the more theatrical and acrobatic troops. The beading on the sleeves spirals around down to stars to add a hint of Harlequin's attractive colours to an otherwise monochrome look. The bodice was put together with deliberately mismatched panels of fabric to try and add to the chaotic livery of clown-ware. As a direct result of trying to find appropriately designed clown pants I've now found a new favourite bit of ridiculous historical clothing - Paned Slops. (Even the name is amazing.) The pants were very involved, as well as the 'paned' outers, which consisted of sewing up (deliberately contrasting for each leg) stiff strips & carefully measured out cross-pieces for the crotch/fly of diamond patterned cloth 'panes' to a waistband/legband framework, the satin inners involved learning how to precisely box pleat, so that the puffy pleats lined up exactly with the deliberate gaps created by the panes. (The only thing missing from my recreation of this bit of historical clothing is the euphemistically named 'codpiece' that buttons onto the fly - since this is a female clown I figured that would look even more inappropriate/appropriate than it would on a male doll! Instead I've created an oversized bow as an additional theatrical touch. ) Doll company & head sculpt: Light Limner Connie 1. Front view of your doll standing wearing the outfit: 2. Photo of recycled materials used:(before use) Used my fabric stash - all of the black/white materials in my small selection were used, including a stripy vest/tee that I never wear. Dead net curtains for 'lace', some beads stolen from a kids necklace set to bead the sleeves/make 'buttons', and a small offcut of tubular crin to make the base for the 'bow' structure. 5. Briefly describe your entry's concept: To keep in line with my theme of Ophelia, I made my doll an outfit that would be suitable for a young noblewoman. The outfit is comprised of the following pieces: a ruffled top, bubble hem skirt, lined underbust corset, metallic infinity scarf, and draped faux fur coat. The blouse and skirt are sewn of layered metallic tulle with hand sewn closures. The corset was drafted to specifically fit the torso of the k-body 18 and made out of a synthetic polyester, lined with cotton; it is closed with eyelets and sheer ribbon. Briefly describe your entry's concept: I was thinking of the subject of delicate things, after recently moving I have a lot of packaging material. Bubble wrap, foam packing sheets, plastic bags, tissue/packing paper and tape. We use these things to protect our delicate belongings but they themselves are delicate and easily damaged. Continuing with my Yokai Oiran concept I decided to recycle materials from my recent move. Doll company & head sculpt: Musen Ke on a borrowed body - Shinydoll Thassa III 1. Briefly describe your entry's concept: Life is a ball and you can't show up wearing just about anything. This lady sure knows how to turn heads, shining brighter than the chandeliers themselves. I once again wanted to convey my doll aesthetic with all the details and trinkets. To match the wig I deconstructed a rococo gown to make the outfit more dolly-like, not an exact replica but still keeping the characteristics of the period. While planning the piece I drew inspiration from various modern retellings of rococo, including one of my favourite manga illustrators, Sakizo. Multiple elements comprise the whole set: two layers of taffeta skirts, a corset and matching undergarments, removable sleeves, a cage underskirt with fairy lights, a matching mini hat, choker, stockings and I decided to add some embellishments to the shoes, they looked so naked. To add more character to the outfit, I added a feather and lace fan and a cross-body rope sash with my favourite elements of the dolly world, representing my doll's personality. Everything is embellished in a typical rococo over-the-top fashion. Doll company & head sculpt: Volks School C on Volks SD10 body 1. Front view of your doll standing wearing the outfit: 2. Briefly describe your entry's concept: This outfit continues the wig's theme of versatility with basic separates that are anything but basic. These stylish overalls are equally at home when fixing any pesky leaking pipes since they won't hamper movement (or show too many stains) and when engaged in no-holds barred negotiations with customs officials and dockmasters. Not too mention, the wide cuffs can hide all manner of secrets. The blouse can hold its own in the parlor when making the necessary rounds of calls while still passing muster while sipping absinthe at any after-hours speakeasy.
