Dollstown Mini discussion part 6

Jul 1, 2016

    1. I like the JuJu's Mary Janes because they have such nice thin soles that they look good with the period/vintage styles my dolls (except January) tend to wear - thicker-soled styles look too modern.

These red ones look ideal with Winnie's 1920s/1930s style outfits for example:[IMG]

    2. They are perfect.......as is her cuddly vintage dog.

Cynthia.........is she ready to be seen yet?!

    3. Here we go -- introducing Miss Sophy!

Of COURSE it was overcast today, so her dark gray-green eye color doesn't show up well. They're Silvers (I think they are, anyway, from the shape and colors); I bought them onYahoo!Japan, and I need to look up exactly what the seller said. Also, Sophy seems displeased with this simple stripy T-shirt and capris; I think I'd better get out the fancy clothes in a hurry . . .

      • x 4
    4. Sweet. The hair suits her - good luck finding some clothes she approves of.

      Teddy

    5. Welcome to Miss Sophy *waves* and doesn't that name suit her. I love her face-up and I love her hair style and colour too...............you must be thrilled.
And I really like that tee-shirt........did you make it?

    6. Awww, thank you, @Teddy! I don't know why I waited so long to add a Dollstown mini to the crew -- I've eyed mini Elysia, Deogi, and Ganga for ages, but I guess the Amy head just had to come along and make up my mind for me.

The top is from Nine9Style -- they have some darling things, even if the ones I ordered aren't quite dressy enough for little madam here. I'm working on a lacy cardi for her, so with any luck that will appease her for a while. I just need to find enough time to finish it . . .

    7. I am really looking forward to seeing that lacy cardi you are knitting for her.......and yes! Why did you wait so long to get a DT mini?!

    8. Well, mini really isn't my thing -- I love the heft and balance of 60cm dolls most of all -- so I only have a ha'pennyworth of mini resin to an intolerable deal of SD size. ;) But I'm very glad that I splashed out on Sophy! I like her proportions even more than my Volks MSDs; she's childlike without being quite so blocky.

The lacy cardi is that petal-yoke one I've been making in EID and SD16 size, so it's nothing new to speak of. But the pattern is working out nicely in laceweight yarn on 2mm needles -- the trouble is that it's a top-down design, and now I'm at the dull part, just plain stocking stitch for the body and sleeves. *yawn*

    9. I thought I was an SD girl until I discovered the DT MSD dolls. Now I seem to play with this size over all my other dolls.....but as I seem them as child size SD dolls I am lucky that all my SD props work for these girls.

And I like your petal yoke cardigans.....it will be fun to see how it looks in child size. Good luck with the st st part :thumbup

    10. Just catching up after being on the road for 5 weeks. Cynthia; Sophy is really lovely. I am anxious to see your petal yoke cardi for the DT mini girls.

I was surprised yesterday to see an email from AngelToast. I made myself a promise that I would not bug her and just check the updates on her website. I saw a week ago that she was in progress. I received pictures of Lilianna's finished faceup, which I approved. So, now just waiting for her to be sealed and shipped. I am quite pleased. But now, I am going to be sending Anneliese to her for a faceup. Her faceup is too bland compared to Lilianna's and I want them to have the same faceup artist since they are sisters. So she will be shipped out soon and it will be awhile longer before they are finally together.

The photos belong to AngelToast. Here is Lilianna!

    11. Oh, @coleen, she is spectacular!! I can't wait to see her all put together--and then to see the two sisters with their coordinating Faceups, in due time. :love

    12. Lovely faceup - what a shame it means Anneliese has to be redone!

      Teddy

    13. Thanks for the kind words Cynthia and Jane! While it is taking awhile to get the sisters together, it does give me the opportunity to buy more things for them! While I was working in PA I found a folding wrought iron mini garden bench that will work as a daybed for my girls and could be a bench for SDs. I also bought great stuffed dolls for the girls by Tindle Bears on Etsy. She normally makes them in 10" size but has been making 6" size for BJDs as requested by another collector.

    14. Gosh she is gorgeous Coleen! You really must be thrilled with her! And I am looking forward to seeing the folding garden bench too.
Lucky girls getting new stuffed dolls too.

So is Anneliese on her way to the artist yet?

    15. She is NOT on her way to the artist yet. AngelToast's DoA thread and her website were a bit confusing. On DoA it says June is closed but the detail shows taking July orders. Her website says taking July orders. But I got a response today from Andrea saying she is mailing Lilianna tomorrow but she isn't sure when she will be reopening slots. She said she would keep my email and inform me when she opened slots. Sigh... so I'm not sure how long I will have gorgeous Lillianna and poor understated Anneliese.

    16. But Anneliese is gorgeous in her own understated way.

      Teddy

    17. Oh bother! What a disappointment for you.
Who painted Anneliese for you? I really like her little eager face-up.

    18. Samantha (Anthrogirl) of Sparrow. She did the faceup for one of my RealPukis and I had her do Anneliese. I liked the faceup, as she has such an understated angsty look, suitable for a child. But, the bolder style of AngelToast makes Lilianna look older and she is the younger. There may be a little of my own childhood insecurities at play. My younger sister was chunky but had blonde naturally curly hair. I was skinny with straight brown hair, 2 years older. Mom often dressed us alike, but my sister always had the pretty dress, shoes, etc. as commented by relatives.

    19. Just thinking outside the box....could the girls swap ages? But I know that would be a big leap and change in your storyworld.
And funny how childhood memories colour our thoughts at times.

    20. I should have Lilianna back in tomorrow's mail, Tuesday at the latest. I may change my mind once I have the 2 sisters together. I still like Anneliese's faceup but need to see them together.

    21. I am looking forward to hearing what you think!

And I changed the eyes on Megan (one of my Ganga's) as I decided that I would like to try a smaller size eye in her.

I think these are 14mm eyes as there is very slight gapping.
But I am thrilled with the difference it makes to Megan, so she will be keeping this pair until I find something I might like better.

      • x 4
    22. Oh, I think that eye size is perfect for Megan -- she looks so alert!

I finally finished Sophy's cardi, and I think it turned out reasonably well for a prototype:

I'll fiddle with the sleeves on another go, but I'm pleased that the pattern sized down without any complications! The yarn is some ancient laceweight wool from KnitPicks, back when they weren't even naming their colors -- it's more stripey than I expected, but the tabby-cat effect has its own charm.

      • x 3
    23. Jane, I love the new eyes in Megan!

Cynthia, I love the new cardi and I especially like the muted colors and the tabby striping!

    24. They look good in her, but they do make her look older, to me at least.

      Teddy

    25. I've always heard for a younger look use a larger eye size or iris and for an older look use a smaller size/iris.

    26. Very well, I'd say - the lace pattern is very nice indeed.

      Teddy

    27. Lilianna is home! The pictures make her faceup look more vibrant than it looks in person. It is mostly the blush, which could easily be remedied for Anneliese if I had the skill. hahahaha!

      [IMG]IMG_0209 by cinti_coleen, on Flickr

Anneliese is holding her Dr. Watson doll and Lilianna is holding Violet. Their chests unzip where they have their stuffed heart. Can also be a hiding place for super secret detective aids.

    28. I do believe there is a wig change in the future for Lilianna. I tried switching the girls' wigs and I don't think the blonde wig is going to work.

    29. Thank you so much for the thumbs up everyone about Megan's new eyes. I needed her to look older than Susie (my other Ganga) so the new ones work perfectly, especially as she looks so much more alive with them too.

And I love that cardi Cynthia....I hope Sophy is pleased with it! LOL!
What would you like to change about the sleeves?

And huge congratulations Coleen *yippee* they both look fabulous!
Now that you have them both home.....do you still think you will get Anneliese repainted?

    30. I still plan to have a new faceup for Anneliese but I really just need her enhanced. Just like you needed Megan to look older; I need Anneliese to look older than Lilianna. Right now, Anneliese looks like she's afraid Lilianna will eat her for breakfast!

    31. Hahahahaaa! But I see what you mean.
It is going to be interesting watching you make the Deogi sculpt look older than the Amy5 one :kitty2

    32. Yay!

I think they look good together. What sort of wig will you look for as a replacement - any ideas on colours and styles?

I see what you mean about their relative ages - Anneliese looks younger and more timid. Good luck with that.

      Teddy

    33. I really like Anneliese's faceup as it is, but I can see that it doesn't suit the characters you've already established for the two girls. :( I've known sisters whose faces didn't seem to match their ages, though -- in fact, one of my best friends and her baby sister (ten years younger) look exactly the opposite of their real age difference.

Oh, and @Jane, I just wish I had made the tabby-striped cardi's sleeves a few rows longer, that's all -- the ribbing wants to catch in Sophy's elbow joints. I've started a new one in a lovely pale-blue heathered yarn, so we'll see how it shapes up!

    34. I like Anneliese's makeup palette; she just needs more blushing and I wanted more freckles for her. If I had ordered Lilianna in the same resin color as Anneliese I could just switch their heads. I did think of doing that but wanted the different skin color as I am fair and my sister is darker. More realism is what I was striving for.

The Amy5 head is a little larger than Deogi and she fills out the 7-8 wig a little better. I ordered the same wig, JPop Mory, as Anneliese, but in a darker auburn color.

Cynthia, I can't wait to see the new cardi you are working on. I really like the pale, muted colors you have used.

    35. Ah! Now I see why you can't just switch the dolls around.
Do they each have a different size body too? I am sorry I forgot what body size Lilanna came with.

    36. I'm sorry Jane; I did answer your question but apparently forgot to hit the post button! Anneliese is on the 7yr body and Lilianna is on the 5yr body.

I am back on the road again right now, but I did decide to check DoA since I am in the hotel with nothing much to do. I see that AngelToast has opened her September slots so I just emailed her to get a spot for Anneliese.

I still haven't had much time for dolls since I am trying to finish things up around the house and I'm on the road now to pay for new hardwood flooring I want installed.

What has everyone else been up to?

    37. No worries Coleen........well done on snagging that AngelToast face-up slot *yippee*

And I haven't done very much with dolls over the summer.......in fact I can't remember the last time I picked up one of my DT little girls *gasp* but real life has been just so busy!

    38. Maru 7head release sale: New Doll - DollsTown 7yrs head "Maru" release sale
I'm safe but she is a lovely sculpt.

I'm thrilled to have my Anneliese's faceup paid for. When I am finally back home on Monday I will get her head ready for shipping to AngelToast. It will be great to have both of my girls completed. Based upon the mature look of AngelToast's faceup I am thinking I may re-think the age of my girls. I was planning on making them 5 and 7 yrs as per their sculpt but they will be actually a little older. That will also work better as amateur sleuths!

    39. Same here

      Teddy

    40. I love love love her (but I seem to say that about almost all of the sculpts! LOL!) but I think there is more than a hint of a smile with Maru.
I also like that she has the slighly larger head too.

      Thinking thinking again.......

    41. Thank goodness I didn't just jump and order last night!!!
I double checked with DT this morning about the head size as I thought that the 8.3 inches stated on the website was large for a new head as Maru simply didn't look larger than a Ganga.
      And I was right!

Maru is a small head she is only 7.5 inches
      *rats*

    42. Good thing you did check then, Jane.

I like the smile (you know me and smilers) but can't afford dolls this year (possibly not for part of next year either) so am safe from that particular temptation.

      Teddy

    43. Wasn't it just Teddy! As I was all set to buy her straight away *phew*
Never mind....I will just enjoy the DT dolls I already have at home. Here is a photo of Megan and Edith from over a year ago.

    44. Awww.... Well they're all set for some fun play, so well supplied with toys and books.

      Teddy

    45. It is always best to be prepared for a long play session! LOL!

    46. Mine would agree with that.

The've had a fair bit of play time with me,but no photo time recently.

      Teddy

    47. Hi! I'm still here, I haven't fallen out of love with Dollstown kids. I still have Ganga5 and Arin7, and my Seola7 is coming back to me this week. I just got distracted with other dolls, and life. :)

    48. That is how it has been with me recently too. I am hoping that soon I will find I have more time and energy for photos.

*sort of snap* real life has got really busy for me over the summer too! :3nodding:

    49. Seola is on the way home, should be here on Thursday, yay! Now I need to see about getting her a little 5 year friend, probably Deogi. :)

    50. Oh wow! How exciting!!!
Have you got a face-up artist sorted or will you do it yourself?

    51. Yay! indeed.

      Teddy

    52. She's not new, she's my Seola that I was dumb enough to trade away last year, and now she's coming home! :)

    53. Oh how wonderful that you were able to get her back!!! Lucky lucky you!!!

    54. Yes! She's coming home,never more to roam! :)

    55. Hi all!
My poor dolly hobby has been so neglected. Just can't seem to find the time to play. But, seeing the new Maru head has sparked something. Want to order the head and maybe a body another time, but really afraid that she will also sit, unattended, too. Happy to see that everyone's still loving their DT girls so much, and congrats to everyone with girls coming home.
There's something very pretty and a little grown up looking about Maru. Has anyone seen a photo of the blank head?

      • x 1
    56. There are some on flickr linked form the DT site:
      Maru 7yrs head

I hope you find some time for dolly play soon

      Teddy

    57. Lovely to see you back here Theresa *waves*
I really like Maru too but I know her head will be too small to work with my other girls....unless of course I put her in a big mohair wig!

And I actually have found time today to start sewing a party dress for Megan (Ganga) and I am trying to make a 50's style party dress for her.
I am not sure if my idea has worked but I am having fun trying! LOL!

    58. Good luck with Megan's dress Jane. I hipe it works out how you envision it.

      Teddy

    59. Late to the conversation again, argh! I'll blame the beginning of the semester, which has been good but hectic, whoo.

Maru caught my eye, too, but after a LOT of looking, I just can't see her as a little girl; that's a very grown-up face, to me. I do wonder whether she might be a suitable schoolmate for my ShinyDoll Thaasa I Akali, if she were on the Elf body . . . hmmm . . . *putting on thinking-about-budget cap*

    60. I agree Cynthia.....Maru has a very grown up look. I think she would work very well on the DT elfbody......happy thinking and deciding.
