Ringdoll Grown Dolls, thread #9

Jan 29, 2021

    1. Hey everyone, I was wondering if there are matching jointed hands for Ringdolls RGM3 and RGM4 bodies?
I do not want to order the ones from Ringdoll, I mean jointed hands from other companies that may fit?

    2. Hi there,

I asked this same question some time back, and received less than lukewarm responses. Since then, I ended up just swapping a pair of Loongsoul 68cm jointed hands onto my RGM-3 boy (note: there is a lot of mobility with this pair, but the wrist ball does stand out.)

I do have a few different pairs of jointed hands in my possession from other companies, so I'll do what I can to give you some options. I have some Doll Legend 70cm jointed hands (male, short nail), which have a smaller wrist joint than the Loongsoul ones I have. They are actually very close in proportion in the wrist ball region (loads better than the Loongsoul pair), and are in general in scale with the rest of the body. I also have some 1/3 DF-H hands which are very close to the same circumference as the Doll Legend pair and would probably work as well (note: they're the SD 1/3 scale and not the 70cm ones. I haven't handled the 70cm pair, so I can't determine whether or not those will work.)

Outside that I have some DH-A 70/75cm hands that would be too big, and Resinsoul 70cm (for their slim 70cm male body (Long body), not their 72cm Yi body) jointed hands which are too small and dainty for anything above a 60cm male.)

I can't give you a very thorough comparison on all the available jointed hands out there, but I hope this proves helpful for you in some way :kitty2

Edit: I took a couple photos of a Doll Legend hand on the RGM-3 wrist to show how it looks:

    3. Thank you so so much, this really helps with my decision :)

    4. @jade-eyed-cat I'd love to see the look of the LS hands on or next to the RGM body, if you have any :XD:

    5. So glad to see Xie Lian is back! :dance 3 days limited period though? Ringdoll, why? It's weird though, why make Hua Cheng's ordering period almost 5 months but both of Xie Lian's ordering periods only a few days? I'm going to have to pass him up, I can't afford it right now and that's such a tiny ordering period :(

    6. Xie Lian's first order period was a few months too, not quite as long as Hua Cheng's is though. Maybe they learned from that one to have a longer run with Hua Cheng.

      • x 1
    7. I feel like a lot of companies do that though- Have a doll released for the first time with a decent order period, and then when they're re-released, especially if it's the last time they'll ever be released, the order period is tiny. Probably to push people to buy it.... And also to try and catch the desperate people who didn't get him the first time. Welp.... ringdoll you have caught me this time LMAO

      • x 1
    8. That makes sense if you're trying to reel in desperate collectors with a small ordering period. Unfortunately they didn't grab me, which is a shame because I was really considering it if only the ordering period was longer! Oh well, it happens!

    9. Keep an eye out after release! I was able to get my Xie Lian nearly a year after original release for retail price somehow from a Taobao shop. There'll be a lot of scalpers, but as long as not too much time passes, you'll find stores selling stock/people trying to sell their doll who regretted buying him and want to make their money back.

    10. That is true! There will be other chances to get him secondhand, I just hope I'll be financially able to get him when the chance arrives! :)

      • x 2
    11. Best of luck! And at least you're getting Hua Cheng, who I expect to be the more difficult of the two to obtain (being that he'll probably only ever have one release period, where Xie Lian has had two, no matter how short the second one is).

      • x 1
    12. Thank you! Yes true, I will still be getting Hua Cheng and for that I'm still thrilled! I hasn't considered he would be harder to obtain once he's gone, but you're probably right since this likely is his only ordering period.

      • x 1
    13. Not only harder, but he's also the most expensive out of the mxtx dolls, so I don't even want to think about how much he'll be on the secondhand market-

    14. Right, that too... He will definitely be a pretty penny on the secondhand market when he starts showing up :nowords: I'm even more glad I purchased him now...lol.

    15. I haven't paid for my Hua Cheng Layaway in full yet, but I must have Xie Lian now.
So I just ordered him via Layaway, too. :kitty2

    16. Best Birthday present ever! Ordered my Xie Lian and now I have all my grails. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Thank you Ringdoll!!

    17. Congrats to everyone who got him!! I'm currently waiting for him to be up on alices collections to see the price difference, but I'll most likely go through clover singing again!

    18. I already let go of Xie Lian last year so I clowned really hard for him yesterday. I'm just glad I managed to clear my Hua Cheng since he ships in August for me --otherwise I'd be crying my wallet right now lol.

Did anyone order fafa HC in white skin?

    19. I thought about it, but there weren't any sample images of what the white looks like with a faceup, either specifically for Hua Cheng or any of their other dolls, so i didn't want to chance ordering it and not liking it in person

    20. Same thought process here. As much as I like the idea since he's supposed to be pale, I don't want to risk it. I've also never had a white skin doll before, and I'm not sure how I would like it. I'd prefer to see one in person before I actually got one myself, especially for such an expensive doll.

    21. I have a white doll coming from Loongsoul, but almost all of their sample pictures use the white resin, so I felt more comfortable ordering him than I do a Ringdoll white skin doll. I'd be lying if i said I wasn't a little nervous about it still, but a big part of that is that I'll be doing the faceup on that one myself xD

      • x 1
    22. Doing the faceup yourself is definitely a big reassurance! With the Hua Cheng doll, I wonder if they use the exact same colors as with the normal skin doll, which may not look as good on the white skin. Especially with something like blushing- it could take a gentle, soft blush on a normal skin doll and make it look like he got a sunburn on a white skin doll! The blushing is one of my favorite things on my XL because it's so gentle and natural-looking, I wouldn't want Hua Cheng to look unusual next to that.

    23. I got an Ashford EVO head in white with faceup because I thought he would make a good HC before the official doll was released. He definitely looks more ghostly with the blue/green tones on white skin. If you want a picture it'll probably link through one of my socials since I don't know how to do pictures here.

I think Loongsoul slaps filters on their promo pics and make their white skin look warmer. My family says my LS doll looks scary because he's so pale.

    24. Oh yeah, everyone throws filters on their promo pics, sadly. I'm debating dying the doll for this character anyway, so if it's too much when he comes in, I'll adjust that way and with blushing.

      • x 1
    25. Ok this scares me now since both my LS boys are white skin! In the end I might need to do heavy blushing for them (also because I plan on some saucy photos)....

But back on topic, I guess it was a good call that I chose Normal Skin for Fafa ;u; or I'd have too many paper boys. I have heavy sunlight at home too (tropical life) so I wonder how this will turn out for me :doh

    26. I imagine if you don't store them in direct sunlight they should be ok!

    27. I will try my best with MSC and my black book case

    28. I think I’ve just fallen in love with a Ring doll. Zhao Yun. He’s so pretty!! I’m considering getting him on layaway. Is the company a decent one to deal with? I don’t even have my first bjd yet as I just finished paying that one off. Is it possible to get jointed hands for him? I’m off to look for photos of Ringdolls now.

    29. I've ordered directly from Ringdoll in the past and found it worked out fine, but he's also available from dealers like Alice's Collections or BJDivas if you're more comfortable with that or need a longer layaway. Ringdoll's layaway max is 4 months.

As far as i recall, Ringdoll doesn't sell jointed hands, but i think ones from companies like Telesthesia will fit on Ringdoll bodies.

    30. I
I think Ringdoll works out cheaper overall because I’m in the U.K. The 2 sites you mentioned are in America aren’t they? Shipping might be high from there I think. Mind you ringdoll shipping works out over $100. I’ll take a look and compare. Thank you.
Also what’s the ringdoll body like to pose? I have nothing to compare to as I’m still waiting for my first one lol.

    31. BJDivas is located in the US, but Alice's Collections is based in Singapore, I believe. Alice's Collections offers free shipping on dolls over 40 cm, including to the UK, unless noted in the specific doll's description, though.

I don't have the body that Zhao Yun comes on, so I can't offer opinions on that one. He's on their 75 cm body, which looks pretty sturdy. I do know that the RGM4, their 68 cm body, has some issues with holding a pose, specifically with the ankles being a little unstable. I've also found with that one that he sits better leaning on something than on his own, but I've got him posed in a bit of a more relaxed sitting position to begin with.

    32. Thank you so much. I did take a look at Alice’s collections and was pleasantly surprised at the free shipping. I’ll be doing some maths this evening to see if I can afford him

    33. Oh no I just saw Hua Cheng too. Now I have a dilemma. They’re both so gorgeous. Which one do I go for???

    34. I got my Amaoni head recently and none of my hybrid plans worked out, his head is soo tiny :? but the default RGM-3 body is soo beefy

    35. I should do a body comparison at some point, but I really don't think the RGM-03 is all that beefy, now that I have one on hand. It's lanky yes, but still looks very slim compared to my Dollshe and Iplehouse guys.

    36. Glad to hear it’s not that beefy! The promo pictures I was looking at make it look super beefcake. Which isn’t bad, but not the look I want for this particular idea

    37. I'd say Hua Cheng! Sure, I may be biased, but I also think that he's more likely to be more expensive on the aftermarket. Zhao Yun is super pretty, but because he's an oc, I doubt he'll be as high demand. Hua Cheng is an official character from an extremely popular series, and seeing what happened to the MDZS boys (even XL before his rerelease, and probably still after the rerelease too), he'll certainly be 1000+ on the aftermarket. That's just my thought process, though.

    38. Has anyone shared this video here yet??
      https://www.instagram.com/p/Cgaxj0Cpa5h/

Its a video of RD putting on HC's eye patch with a pin (I think I'll skip the eyepatch or replace with a flat ribbon/elastic) and he definitely doesn't have eyelashes. So handsome in person, my anticipation is growing!

      • x 1
    39. I saw that, he really is handsome! The eyepatch is such a major part of his design, but then again... I'm almost tempted to go without because of how pretty his eyes are. Maybe I'll switch back and forth. Has anyone had experience with eyepatches on dolls, and have they caused staining? My XL has very minor, light staining at the top of his head from his wig before I got him a proper wig cap, and I don't really care about that because it's hard to see and covered by any wig, but a stain around an eye would be more unfortunate. I'm not sure if Ringdoll added some sort of white lining on the inside of the eyepatch to ward that off. If they didn't, I may make my own with the lining to be safe.

    40. I agree on the eyepatch! I probably will put the eyepatch on for photos only to avoid dealing with messy wigs...I recently fought an epic battle with one recently and i don't want to revisit the experience lol

Perhaps on staining it might depend of the type of material used? It looks like some satin material at least in the photos vs a dyed leatherette so it might be safe but the lining is a great idea!

    41. It should be easy enough to add a lining to the eye patch so it doesn't stain, except with the elastic i suppose. Taking it off/ on again might increase the chances of dye rubbing off or otherwise damaging the faceup, since it's rubbing on the face frequently. I might try switching the elastic out for ties, so it's a little bit looser and hopefully gets a bit more airflow to keep it from staining maybe

      • x 1
    42. Ties is a good point too. I think my plan may be to make a completely new patch (probably with ties) styled like that one piece of STARember art where he had an eyepatch with a butterfly on it, including lining. Do y'all think iron on lining would be enough, or should I add some sort of white cotton/satin lining?

    43. I'd use a white or beige colored cotton personally, but i also have a ton of that lying around xD. Iron on materials are pretty rough in texture and you don't know how the adhesive might impact the resin from the close proximity

    44. That's a good point about texture! I'll probably use a couple layers of a soft white cotton, then. No reason to risk the faceup rubbing off.

    45. I've used iron-on hemming tape before and never had issues but the safest bet is to just stitch them I think. I like your butterfly idea, I want to do this too as well as his arm tattoo to make him fancier <3

    46. Thank you! Yes, I think I'll also add Hua Cheng's tattoo. Since I finally blushed Xie Lian, I think I'll put his cursed shackles on too... does anyone have tips? I'm a little nervous to do it since I've never done it before, and I don't want to mess him up.

      • x 1
    47. I plan on punishing myself by painting them on with acrylics and watercolor pencils but if you have access to a shop that prints temporary tattoos and sealant--I think you can do it! I found a few youtube tutorials in my google search and they almost use the same technique of using temporary tattoos (pre-made and custom printed) and sealing with MSC/sealant.

Alternatively if you have your own printer waterslide decals should do the trick but are more involved and the solvent to attach a decal might be tricky.

    48. He actually came with the waterslide decals to make the tattoos! That's why I'm a little stuck, I've never used waterslide decals before.

    49. Omg this is important information I didn't know! Thank you! :ablink::ablink:

If its normal water activated waterslide decals I think doing the temporary tattoo route with MSC should work...iirc this tutorial will probably yield the best result:

...since she uses a similar technique used by nendoroid customizers and it will help adhere the decal instead of messing with special decal stuff

      • x 1
    50. A lot of water decals comes down to timing, so make sure you have everything pre measured/ cut a head of time, laid out how you want, etc before you start soaking the decal.

    51. Okay, I think that I'll try drawing the cursed shackles on instead. The issue I'm finding with the decals is that they're so thin (about 1 mm at their thinnest point, 4 mm at their thickest) that it's nearly impossible to peel them from the sheet without them breaking no matter how gentle I am. That may explain why I've never seen anyone with the cursed shackles decals on their Xie Lian! So just a warning for anyone who attempts it- I'm sure it's possible, but I'm unable to do it myself, and haven't yet seen any photos of the cursed shackles decals on anyone's doll.

    52. That's true I haven't seen any owner photos with them on! Hmmm now I have no idea if I want to dry the decals, painting them on, or just skipping them entirely. Although if I try the decals and they don't work, hopefully they're easy to remove.

    53. I'm so torn because of the eyepatch/no eyelash situation. I definitely want to add eyelashes to his eyes, I also might even replace Xie Lian's lashes for longer ones, but I don't want the eyepatch to crush them!! I do agree with what everyones saying though where the eyepatch will most likely be an only for photos thing.

    54. Honestly, no reason not to try them since you can peel them off easily until they’re sealed. But they’re definitely not easy to deal with- I took multiple attempts with different soaking times just to see if it was an issue with that, and nope. They just like to break. Though maybe it’s a blessing in disguise because I don’t like the design they used for the decals as much as the designs used in the manhua.

    55. My boy is shipping next week just a few more weeks! aaah!

Back on topic--do you have a photo of the decals in question, if you don't mind?

I think I might make my own or really just paint them if its that frustrating to attach :(

    56. They look like this: [IMG]

    57. They sent like 6 sheets of them so there's definitely plenty if you want to use them and do have a few mishaps, but I'm not a fan of the design

      • x 1
    58. not to trash......
but I can 100% see why many wouldn't attach it.............................................................................................................

Edit: Thank you for the photo!

The decision wasn't even hard for me. Alas whoever uses the decalI hope they make it work

    59. Wait am I missing something? When have they EVER looked like that????

    60. I'm not sure where they got that design from. Those are the decals I received with my Xie Lian though soo :/
