She is very pretty! I stumbled across a photo I took of Samuel (aka Vain) a while back and never seem to have goten around to post. It's the same Boris doll as earlier in the comparison pictures. This is what he normally looks like.
Thanks! I like this sculpt a lot, he's just that right mix of mature and stylized. He is clearly not a child, nor does he have huge manga eyes, but he still looks right next to ordinary slim minis. Not many male sculpts out there hits that sweet spot.
And my JID Kassia is paired with Adrian, a Limhwa Mono... I also have two JID couples, each with an Owen, but all the other JID ladies are single because there were no other suitable JID guys, and I draw the line at 2 Owens.
@IngieBee - Thank you. I've always loved costuming, which is why I started collecting the more realistic BJDs in the first place, so I could dress them. @Haven_Of_Dolls336 - Thanks. Both their costumes were originally made for two art dolls some thirty years ago, but the dolls themselves were not very attractive, and being the same size as my MSD size dolls, I thought I could remake them to fit. Adrian was first, and since he was Fair skin, I ordered Kassia in Normal as well. Here she is in one of my favourite photos of her...
Thanks. Another of my favourite photos of Kassia...seated by the window with the sun streaming in....
Thanks. I've been shooting Kassia's back story for a Fairy Tale she's starring in, and I chose Steve (one of my Owens), and Iris (I) to be her parents, the King and Queen....
Possibly off topic, but where did you get the baby? I hope to give my own JID (and his future Minisup wife) a child at some point, and I was searching for a baby doll to use as such.
The baby is a tiny porcelain doll (Kaiser baby) I painted at a porcelain doll painting workshop I attended decades ago. I've used a Supia Baby Sena as a baby before, but wanted a more 'newborn' looking baby for an upcoming story. Here are Steve and Iris in Victorian times, with baby Sena... Baby Sena (Supia Doll) is the perfect size, and I've also used her as a baby for my FIDs, but she doesn't look 'newborn' enough for when another FID couple has twins soon. Anyways, I have two of the tiny Kaiser babies and they will portray their newborn twins, and then I have two MYou children (Dudu & Feng Linger) to be the toddlers when the babies get a little older..
Oh wow! I haven't been in this thread since 2012 I think? Its nice to see some familiar and new faces here. I still have my two JID girls from 11 years ago. Mind you they went through many looks since then. Spoiler: Sorry for the large photo
I think this size doll has become an afterthought with Iplehouse, especially since they introduced the FID size. Personally I really love my JIDs, and would still welcome a new more mature looking guy, as I have several single JID Moms who would love a guy in their lives. But I doubt it will ever happen.
I don't think so either. At this point, I think Iplehouse is done with JIDs. I could be wrong, it seems they're focusing on larger dolls these days. Closest we're gonna get is FIDs or Souldoll Vitos if ppl don't care about height differences.
What a cute diorama and lovely JID! I love natural-looking faceups, especially on sculpts like these. Her dress looks fantastic as well.
It sure seems like the big boom in faces has slowed down, but never say never?? She's so sweet @littlegreycoconut
The problem is that FIDs and JIDs don't really work together, at least not close up, unless the JIDs are in the background, or off to one side, or their wigs make their faces look smaller, because JIDs have considerable bigger heads. Although I have used them together in photo stories before..... But I wouldn't pair them up as a couple. Personally, I don't see why Iple couldn't shrink a few of their EID or SID size heads to JID size like they do to create their FIDs. I could use some more mature, ethnic JID guys as partners for my single JID moms.
With the design of the newer JID body, I think Iplehouse is viewing them as a child/teenager with the larger dolls.
In my opinion they still don't fit scale-wise with their larger dolls. Neither do the KIDs and BIDs. Their proportions and sizes are all wrong. Teenagers are the size of full grown adults. The BIDs are the size of newborn babies, and KIDs are the height of a two year old, and JIDs the height of a six year old compared to an EID or SID. But then this scale conversation has been going on forever with everyone having their own opinions.
Yes, I see the new KID body more as a child also. Scales are mixed up in the BJD world! The SD sizes are pretty good 1/3 scale but the 1/4 MSD and 1/6 YOSD are not in scale. Many of the new mature tines are a good 1/6 scale. And yes, everyone has there own opinions on scale!
I personally like the smaller IH dolls together, with the jIDs as adults, and the KIDs and BIDs as their kids.
I’ve bought into Iplehouse’s vision of a JID being an adolescent girl, just starting to develop. I’ve just ordered my second one (a Benny in DB skin tone), my first was an Amy in NS but I’ve been hankering after Benny for awhile and she’s available in the winter DC sale. Anyway, I’ve ordered one. I find the size goes ok with the KIDs & BIDs but for obvious reasons I can’t make a family unit (not that I was going to) with JID adults and I don’t think the larger dolls YIDs, SIDs etc fit in. There seems to be a big gap between JIDs & YIDs. Like Martha, I like the little ‘uns.
@nancy_schroeder_ca - Thanks. I find with the right make up and hairstyles my JIDs work fine as adults. Heres most of mine, getting ready to attend a wedding.... From the left: Leona, Owen, Asa. Isar, Benny, Soa, Steve (second Owen), and Iris ('I'). With KID Lisa. I forgot to include Kyle, and Kassia wasn't going, since her white gown would upstage the bride, and I didn't have anything else for her to wear.
@MB Lilac What a gorgeous group! The original JID body makes a good adult. I think the new body fits better with the preteen view.
The JID body is ridiculously thick, even more than a Volks MSD. I needed a short thick body to make Thorin with out of a small 70cm head, and this one works perfectly even though it's the newer one.
Totally agree with you. I too would get an original body if I wanted an adult. Can’t cope with anything bigger than a JID tho. You then have weight to consider with the larger dolls, especially, if like me, you don’t have a car.
As beautiful as the bigger dolls are, I also prefer the smaller versions. The JIDs and smaller were my favourites until the FIDs arrived on the scene. Those are roughly the size of a JID, and can share most of the same clothes, but are more realistic proportions. But I still love all my JIDs. Like Iris ('I') who actually wears contemporary outfits from time to time...
I don't know about the commercial FID clothes, but my JID and FID ladies can wear the same clothes that I make for either one. I don't think the new JID body could share, since it's a lot thinner. Iris in the photo above is wearing a sweater I knit specially for a Fashion sized doll. The JID female torso is almost exactly the same as the JID old one. In the previous photo #812 three of the JID ladies are wearing gowns I made for my FIDs ; Leona, Benny & Iris. The bodices fit perfectly, but the skirts are a touch long. It's a different story with the men, since FID guys are taller with wider shoulders. I've had my Owens borrow the FID tuxedo on occasion, but it needs the sleeve and pants length folded in since both are too long.
Thank you very much for this information. My JID, Amy, is currently wearing some SD13 girls tights that are more like (very long) leggings but fit reasonably well round the waist, and an SD13 sweatshirt which for some reason fits well. It’s hard trying to find people (on Etsy) who make BJD clothes in England. Trying to get my head round adding photos to my posts. I’m getting there.
Just dropping in to share a picture of my Cordelia. There was finally some sunshine today after days of bad weather, so I decided to grab the good camera for some pictures. Still love that sculpt and the company faceup so much, but she is in desperate need of some restringing. She can barely sit without falling over because she is so loose.. I really need to do that when I'm on vacation in two weeks. Any tips on some good elastics for JIDs? IMG_6015 by keliyara, on Flickr
I use the thickest I can fit into their channels. Mine are the older version with standard string configuration and butt flaps and they need all the extra friction they can get to pose even somewhat reliably. And their channels are quite narrow. If I have the choice I would opt for a firm kind rather than a soft one, for the same reason.
Posting here again after so long, with my JID siblings, an Edwin and a Violet. Edwin actually arrived last year, but I went through quite a fair share challenges getting him a face-up. Golden Kids by Yela Gatchalian-David, on Flickr And just a reference for those searching for readily available clothes that fit the JID boy, I managed to put these Dollmore items on Edwin and they fit great: Mango Text Hood T shirts (Mustard) -- covered up the text by appliqueing a patch over it Cargo seven tenths pants (Black) Nika Sneakers (Beige)
@AntarelNefertili They look lovely. And good to know about the dollmore clothes. I've had some luck with them myself for other dolls, because their listed measurements are usually correct, something that can't be said for every maker.
I've not shared any photos of my JIDs here ini a while. This is my Isar. IH - Isar by Tom Beach, on Flickr
@MB Lilac What an absolutely brilliant photo! Such a totally authentic scene, and I love their Hi-Viz vests too.
Thank you. The photo was taken for 'National Construction Day' which was back on November 30th. I enjoy taking photos for my Special Days series when there's one that happens to inspire me. I originally made the vest for a Garbage Collection day, and used it again for a school crossing guard. I have a pattern for it on my website - Safety Vest - Tutorials 2021
Hi there! I was wondering if anyone has, could take, or knows where to find a photo of a resin comparison between Iplehouse peach gold and special real? Special real seems like it can photograph very differently depending on the light, so I would like to see both resin colors in the same picture.
It also depends on whether it's the old or new formula of either one. The older, original Special Real skin looks very green beside Peach Gold, which is why I never ordered any dolls in PG. But the newer SRS is a different formula, and is much redder, so probably looks better with it. I have one PG girl, but she's a much older formula from way back when IH was still using the more translucent resin, so it wouldn't be a true representation of what it would look like now.
Thanks for the info! I do wish they still offered the more transparent glow resins, they looks gorgeous.
This is an INCREDIBLY wild long shot, but I figured I'd ask: I'm planning on re-shelling my childhood doll, American Girl Addy Walker, as a JID Benny, but I no longer have my Addy to determine if she should be light brown or dark brown. Does anyone have a suggestion on that?
@Honooko - I own multiple brown IH dolls, but never Addy, so I can only compare to photographs... I think I would be leaning towards dark brown, though? If it helps, the difference between those two isn't large, because they were originally one color. Good luck deciding! I've had Benny on my "maybe someday" list for a long time, so I hope you'll share photos of yours some day! ^_^
Here's my brown family. The two BIDs are an earlier light brown, and when I ordered Benny and Angela it was right at the time they changed their light brown to a darker (and redder) colour. I wasn't pleased that they did it without telling anyone, and neither were other customers. So Iplehouse decided to offer both colours separately, with the older, lighter brown, and the new darker light brown as 'dark brown'. Keep in mind that my two BIDs also predate the current resin formula, and were made back when IH still used the more translucent formula. So I can't speak for what the current light brown is really like.
I haven't taken a photo of my IH Edwin since forever, but here he is with some plants I've been raising lately. Also, am I the only one having issues getting the Iplehouse website to load? Isitdownrightnow seems to imply that the problem is only on my end, but I've tried so many ways of accessing it (even different browsers) and I couldn't get it resolved. I got a JID Tania Noctarcana Circus edition in October. I named her Stephanie, and now she's my longtime regular edition Tania's sister. They're both my beloved daughters I've taken some photos of Stephanie since getting her. This is one of my favorites.
Thank you so much! She's my favorite little girl sculpt, so even though she's discontinued, I had to get another one
