How do you pose your dolls when you're not interacting with them?

Apr 5, 2017

    1. Describe how and where you pose your dolls when not in use, or share a picture. Maybe add why you like to leave them like that.

When my roommate is gone, I set my dolls up on and around my desk so that they are in casual sitting or standing poses, so I have them as desk-mates :) It's nice to be able to look up and see them, or have a small friend leaning on my books, or dangling her legs over the edge of my dresser.

    2. I don't yet have my doll but I want to make a space for him in my dining room, which is currently a crafting area. I have plans to make furniture for him from wire frames and sculpy clay. He'll likely be in casual poses. I'd make a place for him the bedroom but that would never fly with my husband.
Does your roommate not like the dolls as well?

    3. My boys usually hang around on my desk with me (or when I'm not there)! They just sit with their legs hanging over the edge mostly. Though I have recently been having Ilya scrunch himself up to loosen his elastic a little. I also like posing them together, which was...interesting when Ilya's head was off for a faceup. I hope to have a bench or couch or something for them soon though, so I can have some space back on my desk!

      Why? I hate dusting.

    5. During the day, my doll sits in casually poses in her house. At night, I pose my doll in a sleeping position and give her her stuffy. I kinda like to think that she has a sleeping rhythm too.

    7. My MSD girl has a throne which she sits on. I'm planning to buy a big ol' bell jar, just to protect her from dust when she's chilling on my desk. Plus, I think bell jars are super classy.

I'm planning to create a little display for my incoming tinies. I'm waiting until they get here, so I can have a better sense of their scale. But I think a little ocean-themed diorama would suit them. I think they'll hang out inside a bell jar too.

    8. At the moment, they're inside a room dedicated to our game collection so I'm able to leave them out (there's no window there and no way for dust to enter). Two of them are just relaxing on their SD-sized couch, with the third posed standing up beside them.

When I'm stressed or bored sometimes, I just fiddle with them and give them props like a magazine, mini-PSP or iPad. :D It's like they're just hanging out in the room with me.

    13. My couple usually sits on a table in my bedroom with their legs hanging down on the edge, posed to evoke them just chilling together. If I do need one (or both) of them as artist's models, they are moved right beside me on the workstation and posed accordingly (gets pretty crowded though!).

    16. My two mini boys are shelf-sitters I'd say 90% of the time I'm not doing something with them. Billy gets a little more variety thrown in just because he's so much fun to pose, plus he can fit into more places, but he's usually cuddled up to Pete on the dolly shelf.

Marigold does not live on the dolly shelf, and is usually found reclining in her open carry case, where I can see her from my bed.

    17. Most of my dolls have chairs (or similar things) to sit on, and they've practically taken over the room I keep them in. I like to leave them posed like they're talking amongst themselves.

    19. I'm just very self-conscious about the hobby, as for a long time I had to keep it a secret due to living conditions. I just feel a bit uncomfortable with opening that part of me up to people, so I prefer to keep it on the down-low. And I have an extreme fear of being told that dolls are stupid or childish. I am extremely passionate about dolls and the hobby, so I prefer to keep it to myself instead of risk someone else disapproving or making fun of me and turning the taste sour, if that makes sense :sweat

    21. It makes perfect sense. I have a collection of various nerdy figurines and an American Girl doll I've kept since childhood. My own parents gave me crap for collecting figurines. I am touchy about mentioning the BJDs to people but most people understand with your more typical figure and doll collecting. I think BJDs and dolls in general are getting more accepted though. I've had a few co workers spot me looking at sites while I'm on my break and start asking questions. They've been genuinely interested.

    22. That's comforting to hear :)
As of right now, I only have as few MH dolls that I do faceups and customs and whatnot for as I save up for BJDs, which I think in part contributes to my fear, as they are marketed to a much younger demographic. But for the most part I think it's a force of habit to be secretive about things I love that matter, which is why online communities like this are so wonderful. Maybe I'll find or create a thread about this topic separately.

    24. My girl has a lovely little arm chair on my desk, although I do sit her on the edge of my desk when I'm working on something sometimes. I like to think she's a willing audience for when I need to think out loud about a math or programming problem.

    30. I found a wicker chair for big dolls at a thrift store, so Annika occupies that when I'm not playing with her. It's a bit too big, though. It could probably fit an SD and an MSD at the same time. To make it work better, I visualize it as patio furniture, and that (oddly enough) ended up being the spark of inspiration that I needed for her story. Because patio furniture and science fiction always go together, right?

    32. I have a great shelf in my closet that is bright but out of direct sunlight they all hang out on. Usually I'll bring one or two out into the room with me if I'm home, but if not they stand against the wall posed in a cute or relaxed way! Except for Rin and Rohan, who are both usually in action poses!

    34. My DD is either sitting on the shelf and watching over me while I study or she kneels on a blanket next to my laptop. Right now she's holding my pain medication (wisdom teeth extraction) with her hands, head slightly tilted and smiles softly. She's such a gentle soul <3

    37. I only have the one OT doll (Tiny AnAn cat) so far. Her main outfit is solid black, so to prevent stains I usually have her sitting in the nude with some of my other dolls (she has such cute body blushing that I kind of like her that way). She can't stand on her own, and is too tiny to find a proper stand for, so I'll often have her sitting, relaxed looking, in a corner of a shelf away from the light. Usually, just looking cute with her hands in her lap. Sometimes, I'll give her a prop like Re-Ment items, or put her into a light coloured outfit instead.
