Aesthetics Daphne's Creation - First Resin Faceup Complete - Blushing Soon

Dec 7, 2018

    1. I've decided to create a project journal, to help keep track of my progress on my first resin faceup for a doll. My plans for this doll are slowly coming together, after having done a lot of research prior to her arrival, and getting to know her over the last week or so.

Here's our hapless victim volunteer for the project!

Her name is Daphne, and she's a Minifee A-line girl, with the recent Halloween Event head. She'll be getting made over to look like a cozy forest witch, with lots of jewel tones, dark neutrals, and so on.

Here's what she'll have done over the next few weeks (or however long it takes me, depending on weather conditions and so forth):

      [x] Faceup mockup
[x] Faceup prep - MSC and research
      [x] Faceup completion
[ ] Body blushing prep - unstring and apply MSC
[ ] Body blushing completion - restring and suede joints
[ ] Manicure prep (multiple hand sets) - MSC and research
      [ ] Manicure completion
[ ] Complete sewing for first outfit (more details to come, already sort of in progress)
[ ] Purchase or make accessories for first outfit
[x] Purchase shoes for first outfit
[x] Purchase wig for first outfit

    2. Quite the undertaking lol! Can’t wait to see how you transform her!

    3. I figure there's no time like the present! :) She's my only project doll at the moment, so I'm going all in with her.

I've done faceups for other types of dolls, so I'm pretty confident on that part of the project, and I've sewn lots over the years, so my biggest concerns are actually the sueding and unstringing/restringing.

    4. I've finally been able to get started on Daphne's faceup, after about two weeks of high heat, rain, and humidity. Today was nice and cool, and dry enough to repeatedly spray MSC without ill effect! I managed to finish her contouring and blushing, and start on sketching out her makeup.

If the weather holds tomorrow, I'll try and smooth out the details of her face. I can't finish it 100% yet since I haven't decided how to do her eyelashes, but I should be able to get pretty close to completing her!

      Contouring completed!

Testing a lip shape with a brighter red.

      Starting to darken the red.

Sketching in the other facial features.

I'm going to let her dry really thoroughly overnight, as I used water to shape some of the pencil and erase a few stray marks, but this is where she sits at present!

    6. Thank you! I hesitated to reply until I had more progress to show, and I finished her face this evening. :)

I wanted her to look chilled and flushed, because my goal for her is lots of layers and wintery clothes, and I thought that would suit. My next step is to blush her body and hands to match (with rosy fingers and lots of contouring).

I also tried the two wigs I've bought for her on now that she has a face. I think the long one suits her witchy flavour more. The short one would probably appeal to the practical personality I've ascribed to her, but it's a bit too mod-ish and mushroom shaped. It's cute, but it's not for her, alas. Maybe with some creative layering trimmed into it, though. Hmmm.

These photos also really show the difference between her original shade and her final blushing. Her nose and browbones are mostly their original shade, but the rest has been shaded like crazy to look more lively.

    7. She's beautiful so far!! I love her bottom eyelashes, they are done quite well. And those brows are just stunning. :) I look forward to seeing more progress updates!

    8. Thank you! ♡ I hope to get going on her manicures and body blushing soon, but the weather has gone humid and awful again the last few days, so I fear that she may be a several-month-long project at this point. I'll get sewing in the mean time, I guess! :)
