Dream Valley 1/3 Doll Discussion

My Qing is a royal pain in the rump to dress. Nothing fits her properly... I'm either going to have to make everything she wears or have it custom sized.

Maybe I can find her a super-long wig and claim she's cosplaying as Lady Godiva. <_<

 

@Gathephaar I actually like playing around with clothing options for her. It's really interesting. Alright, so picture of having fun...various clothes sizes under the spoiler to save from picture spam.

Spoiler: Clothing Comparisons

First up is some regular SD outfits. Dress is from Alice's Collection from their '1/3' clothing option. It's a tad short on the torso and a bit big in the chest. The shirt was a second hand SD shirt, so I don't know from where and might be hand sewn. Again, it's a little short in the torso as well.





Next up are some clothes I got as a gift from Impldoll when I ordered the 63cm Star Body. I think the fancy dress is supposed to be for their shorter Model body? It still looks cute, but like /all/ holiday dresses it seems to stand up away from the boobs. (The black skirt is actually from the first dress)





Last one is more of a funny? But I love how casual she looks in oversized 70cm boys clothes.

@Peneyofdeath Thank you for that! My character doesn't wear a lot of dresses thankfully, but it does look like this body will be a little difficult to dress. It's so hard to find a normal body with a super small bust option that has good posability!

Hello guys, does any of you have their female body hybrided with another company's head? Trying to get rid of my old PW body, but I wonder if the DV body isn't actually too thin for normal or slighty smaller SD heads.

 

I don't currently, but I'm intending to when both come in. The headsize seems to match up well with a regular SD head, it's just that the neck is a little on the thin side.

 

Ugh......I'm slightly tempted to order their 71ish cm boy body in tan now that it's not orange. Do you guys know how often they offer or change their colors? I honestly just want to see how long I have to consider him before he's gone. Because if I only have as long as the event...hnn, I might be screwed to a layaway.

 

They don't seem to change their colors too frequently. The grey was a new addition with the giraffe event, and they also had a limited purple resin offering for that event but the grey is a permanent fixture now. The notices say that the chocolate is limited to this event only, it's like a placeholder while they fix their tan. Maybe the new tan will be chocolate, but maybe it won't. I can't imagine the new tan being worse than the orange-tan the old tan was, but it might be a light tan too. I don't like a lot of companies' tan because they're light tans and more akin to like Iplehouse "real" skin. If you like the chocolate imo you should go for it.

 

Genuinely, if I was going for perfect, I'd wait until they took an olive tanned tone. I might have to take advantage of the sale and pretty tan. Now I get to wait for DC to do a tan event so I can get a head I want xD

 

DV released Sirius and I immediately fall in love with him. I just got my DV Vine. And Sirius looks like an adult version of him. Luckily he is still available even after an event so I could cool down for a while before get him for good XD

 

i am trying so hard to not look.... but i agree, Sirius is very appealing.... i love that 1/3 body too, it is so nice to pose.

 

Sirius is VERY appealing. I should try to resist since I've got most of my dolls stored away for lack of space right now but my partner and I both really like Sirius so it's sort of like I'm buying him for both of us

I also really want Sirius, I think I’m gonna wait to get him in chocolate or hopefully an actually dark tan if they release it.

 

I bought dream Valley Belinda wings for my dream Valley Silina, will they fit since she is smaller? lol Also, how do I unstring her.. she's strung so nicely I don't want to ruin her.

 

If her wings are strung on a separate elastic loop, that's ideal. If they used one of the elastics in the body it's harder to get the slack. You might be able to look inside if you can make a gap at her torso, see what's attached that way. Or, unhook one dragon wing, and see if the other wing comes out with a loop of elastic or not.

Once you can get her original wings off, i would recommend putting the new ones on their own loop since it's a lot easier to manage. i got some good advice from a thread about DC's skeleton wings here: LINK
the pictures helped me visualize how to approach the install. I did my Bethel this way too. Since the doll is smaller, you might need a kip to the larger wings.

I am just not into the face. I wish there was a human face option. Yes, of course, the cat face fits perfectly but it's not really my taste. He is so big too (bit too big for me)

But I don't think I can resist him. The body and outfit is perfection.

Can I have your thoughts about their tan skins?
What I have seen from owner pictures of the wolf centaur boys their tan seems quite orange.
I wonder how the coffee skin will turn out. It does look a bit into the orange for me

 

I honestly don’t think chocolate looks very orange compared to the previous tan, maybe it’s a quality of the translucent resin you’re noticing? But the coffee sample doesn’t look translucent and BJDivas’ announcement confirms it’s not, so I’d expect it to be closer to the actual samples they’re posting. It also looks more red-toned to me though.

 

Hm, okay. I felt like in the pictures of the cat boy the skin is more into orange undertones than brown, which makes me worry it might look more orange with time because of yellowing.

I am considering the grey skintone too.
It's a shame I am still waiting for my 1/4 Giraffe boy, elsewise I would be able to see the grey skin in real and it would make it so much easier to decide.

I kind of have a hard time imagining how skin tones will look in reality just from promotional pictures.

Sounds like we are on the same boat with the head.
I am considering trying to find an other head later on (from a company that does resin matching) or maybe buying the other guys head too, so that I can decide what I like more when I get them

 

I've seen the chocolate skin in person and it isn't orangey at all. The picture of the coffee skin looks darker and less likely to be orange than their chocolate, so I think you're good.

 

Does anyone have Qing? I'd love to see some photos of her, I tried an online search but all I found were (gorgeous) promo pictures.
I'm especially curious to see a front shot, and how her half opened eyes look.

 

Qing seems to be fairly similar to Z7 (I hope you get Qing! I am so tempted, now that I have Z7), so here's some photos of Z7's face with my admittedly terrible photography skills:

If you order the full set, face-ups are included, but body blushing is extra. Sadly, Dream Valley isn't making the katana swords for Qing anymore - and if you want the weapon-gripping hands, those are also extra (as is blushing for the hands). Heel feet (and blushing) are also extra.

She was pricy but IMHO totally worth it.

 

Yeah, I'm trying to find every little bit of extra information about her but for now I got zilch.
Your photos have been absolutely crucial to fortify her status as first-bjd-doll-to-buy, though. Right now I'm looking around for the best option on how to order. The dealer in my country said that DV doesn't ship to Europe at the moment, so I'd need to rely on overseas stores, and that means horribly high customs.

I see now that there's one store in Belgium and one in Spain, maybe there's still hope!

I learned through a discussion in the BJDivas FB group that PayPal is also notorious for hidden fx exchange rate fees that are frankly astronomical for Euro to USD conversions, too - about $30 USD per $130 USD, which is just a straight up rip-off.

If there is any way you can avoid PayPal and use a credit card that doesn’t charge exorbitant foreign currency fees, I would recommend looking into that.

That's really a good advice, thank you. By the way, the spanish dealer can't do preorders, apparently, so I'm waiting a response from the belgian one. If I hit a wall there too, I hope Alice's Collection would accept foreign credit card payments.

@lytits - my Z7 holds poses almost like she's glued in place. It is a stiff body - moving it into certain poses requires a little elbow grease.

The ears were standard with the doll. Funny you should ask - when I first placed my order, I asked if I could swap out a human head (or have the ears sanded off). Now that I have her, I'm glad they said no.

 

Her ears are still there... you just can't see them under the floof of that wig.

She poses well, and feels pretty solid in spite of being a lot lighter than any of my other "tall girls". (She probably weighs about half what my Volks SD16s and SpiritDoll Proud girls do, for comparison-)

The only issue I've had with her are the hands... The magnets are weak and there's no locking notch like some other companies put on their magnetic hands and feet. That resulted in her hands falling off unexpectedly any time I picked her up or reposed her. I ended up solving that issue by using a little Aileen's white glue to attach the hand bits to the ball/wrist part. I can't take her hands off to dress her with them attached like that, but I *also* don't have to worry about her randomly losing a hand somewhere or breaking a finger when one decides to yeet itself into the Great Unknown.

 

Lol, yeah, I asked too and they answered the same. I don't know, I'm not too attracted by elf ears, honestly, and I could buy another head just to sand them off. Depending on the wig it could be less distracting, or maybe they'll grow on me as they did on you.

 

Qing and Z7 use 16mm eyes, I believe, any chance for a pic with a pair of 14mm, please?
In the next two/three days I'm taking the time to finalize the accessories I'm about to order, and I would like to play it safe as much as possible.
Wigs! That's another one of my doubts, 6-7? or 8-9? but I'm afraid the "wearability" changes from brand to brand.
I picture myself buying a lot of hit-and-miss stuff in the near future

 

I would definitely recommend 16 mm eyes and size 8-9 wigs. The eye sockets inside the doll head are large enough that I couldn't get 14 mm to fit without seeing putty. If anything, you might consider going up to 18 mm - but I don't have any eyes in that size, sorry.

I tried out several wigs. 6-7 would not fit at all. Couldn't even get it over the head cap. The head is deceptively big.

 

Ajda is wearing 16mm eyes... The 14mm set I tried didn't fit at all, but they were standard round. A set of oval flat-backs *might* work better, but I don't have a set that size to try for you.

The wig she's wearing is a 9 from DollHeart and it's too big for her. It wouldn't stay on her head without a stout rubber band under it.

An 8-8.5 would be a better fit, especially if the cap had a little stretch to it. .

 

Hey, everyone.
Can I get some boot recommendations for the B56-01 body? I have both the flat and high heeled feet. The issue I am coming into is that her flat feet are HUGE compared to my other SD sized dolls, and her legs are more slender, so I end up with little to no support in the ankle and calf area.

I even attempted to pad the shaft of boots with cotton balls, but it still does not help as much as I had hoped it would and still leaves the boots looking comically oversized around the legs.

 

Hello! I'm a happy owner of B56-01 body. I'd gorgeous, but If want to find a hybrid head for it. Do you know who can be okay for it?

I tried my DIM Anneliese, Fantasiadoll Barbara and Zaoll Muse, they are all good more or less.

 

That's one thing I'm going to try for sure.

The bigger obstacle that I can see (not owning the doll, yet) is the shoulder width, they clock at 10cm, if I'm not mistaken, and the possibility of getting a bobblehead is very real (for my taste). On the other hand it needs to be taken into account that the body slenderness raises the probability of getting a pinhead effect.
It'd be tricky to find a good balance but I'm confident something will show up eventually.

Who knows, maybe a proper wig will hide/delete most of my fears...

I'm currently awaiting a full Scar in white (that I plan to dye black), another Scar head in NS, and an Abu from the event. Did a big group order with some friends via Clover Singing on a 6 month layaway, which will be paid off next month (though I've already paid off my portion). Christina told me she hopes they will be ready in March. I am SO excited!

 

Double post but;
MY SCAR SHIPPED! And Abu. And extra Scar head. I'm so freaking excited! But oddly, Christina shipped everything out individually. So there are 5 packages going to my friends house who the split is being sent to (3 Scars, 1 Chaos, and 2 Abus but the Abus are packaged together). We had the large order shipped to one person because we figured shipping would be easier, but had we known they'd all come separately we could have had each piece sent to their respective owner. >.<

Also DDE has some Scars and Abus in stock! Only blank for all but they have Scar in coffee.

 

Do the re-released mermaids belong here? They seem to be 1/4 scale bodies with loooooong tails.
I need - NEED - human legs for that body. That torso is breathtakingly beautiful. I wish they made their other bodies with that torso.

Edited to add: I asked Alice's Collections. Dream Valley does not offer human legs for the mermaid bodies.
I don't care. I ordered one anyway. Even though Depths Dolls is going to offer a pre-order for a 1/6 scale mermaid with human legs for the same price - I just went for the DV mermaid. Had to have her. After owning Z7, I have fallen in love with Dream Valley dolls.

 

I just bought a second-hand Impldoll Sicily head - I'm going to try that. Next up is a Miracle Doll Rita head I'm waiting on.

Surprisingly, 1/4 scale heads look pretty good on that body (IMHO) - but I would have to massively sand down the neck, which I'm not willing to do. This is a Resinsoul/Bobobie Mei head perched on there:


I ended up putting Z7's head on an old Angel of Dream body because I like the proportions better. That's a Dollmore Eva Louise head on the Dream Valley body. The fit is perfect - but the head seemed too big.

How's the resin comparison in person? Judging from photo colors only it seems an almost perfect match. Surprisingly, both the B56-01 and and the AoD 58cm body have the same shoulder width, but I find it very hard to believe.

Scar is a very big boy, and I love black kitties too. I saw several people who placed an order around the same time as mine getting their dolls, but my Qing keeps eluding me, sigh.

 

The AoD body is much broader in every sense - bigger hips, bigger shoulders, the whole enchilada. The Dollmore head looked great on that body, too. I think I need more AoD bodies... Actually, it's weird, because prior to the switch, the dolls were the exact same height, but after, the hybrid with the Z7 head was shorter. The Dollmore head is pretty big in comparison, I giess. The color match is perfect because the AoD body is at least a decade old (maybe more) and was yellow as butter. I dyed the resin using that amazing de-zombification serum tutorial in the Workshop area, and the color came out a gorgeous peach - like the fairy skintone used by Alchemic Labo for their Unoas.

 

I realized that the Rah eagle version existed too late to get my hands on one, and I'm over here crying xD. I have noticed that ti seems DV sometimes brings back sculpts - how likely is it that they would do so for the pretty bird boy? Or is my only hope gonna be the secondhand market?

 

I don't think DV has permanently retired any sculpt after a single release, it's a question of how long you're willing to wait. Finding them secondhand can be more difficult if it's a while past when they actually release, but I doubt any Rahs have shipped yet, so if you wanted to wait to see if any dealers get him in stock that's an option.

DV also classes Rah and its ~51cm dolls as 1/4, though, not 1/3 — just as a heads up. You'll probably get more discussion of him over here.

 

My wallet will probably be happier if I have to wait for a while xD Oh yeah, I was wondering if dealers did something like that (I'm very new to the world of BJD). So it would be possible (maybe) to get him in stock at a dealer? I can keep an eye out there around the time I find they get shipped.

Am I right in thinking the heads are quite large compared to the bodies, on SD size? I'm obsessed with my Ivy (19cm fairy) but I don't want strange proportions on SD.

I don't think it's that the heads are large, the bodies are just very skinny/lackey so when compared the heads may seem large. But generally DV 1/3 heads seem to be around 8-8.5cm, which is honesty on the smaller end of 1/3 head sizes. If you compare to like Luts, a typical head size for their Senior Delf 65 males is about 9cm. I have some 1/3 heads around 9.5cm even (plus two 1/4). A smaller head on the DV bodies might look pin-headed based on the shoulder/neck ratio but a lot of it is also personal preference. DV dolls are very much style over realism for their aesthetic so trying to go for more realistic proportions for some of it may look odd.

Also typically many 1/6 and smaller dolls have larger heads than what would be proportional to their bodies. I'm assuming your Ivy is a Dollzone Ivy? In which case, to me, Ivy seems to have a much bigger head to body ratio. Compare where the ears and sides of head align with the shoulders.

 

I... found the head of my Dream Valley Z7 to be a touch large for the body. I feel like the shoulders are a little small. I believe it's a very specific choice to give the doll an otherworldly aesthetic, but I ended up rebodying the head onto an Angel of Dream body, which I like much better.
However, I am a "make it like Barbie" collector (I want all my dolls to be larger versions of Barbie), so take everything I say with a huge grain of salt.

hihi! I have a hybrid doll on a dream valley b4-04 body (the 51cm one). I'm finding it super hard to find pants to accommodate the length of his legs, and am not really sure where to look or what to look for keyword wise. Wondering if anyone has any tips!

 

Is that outfit the Dollmore one? By chance does it fit on the DV body? My girl needs some clothes that are not dress based.

 

That is a Dollmore outfit, but it's on an AoD body. The DV body is too slender to fit, unfortunately. The clothes would just hang off the body.
You might try Dollfie Dream or SD16 clothing instead.

 

Would this be a good thread to include my Dream Valley Lloyd in? I know he's a rather uncommon sculpt, but he's on the B70-01 body.
