CP Delf Discussion Part 13

Jun 1, 2021

    1. I like the fact that CP gave their sculpts "stories" and "families" like that! It gives the dolls a lot of character and it gives the brand itself a lot of personality. I kind of wish they still did that. It would explain a lot of similarities between more of the recent releases :sweat

    2. I'm today years old when I found out the old Delf sculpts had backstories. Did any others have lore behind them?

      • x 1
    3. @kaboomkim I don’t think anything can really explain over 20 sculpts being that similar…

      @coop52 I don’t know, I don’t think so.

      • x 5
    4. @coop52 There was some speculation at the time of Harang's release that he was "related" to Shiwoo due to the similarities in their sculpts, but nothing was confirmed. Minifees Ruth and Shushu were released at the same time, much like El and Lishe always were, and the sculpts bear some resemblance, but nothing was said to be intentional. I think by the time the Type 2 body was released, they stopped doing the little backstories :pout:
@TeaPartyRevolution That made me laugh more than it probably should have :sweat

    5. @kaboomkim I honestly think it is a shame that they are just basically producing the same thing over and over again now.

    6. I agree :(

    7. They seem to have found their niche... and then abandoned everything that wasn't 110% inside that space. Which is great for people who are into that specific thing, I guess. There seem to be plenty of collectors who are. It's just a lot more limited than what they used to produce.

In the end, they *are* a business, though... So, if a horde of bow-legged, duck-faced little girls is what makes the most profit for them it would be silly NOT to expect them to chase that audience. In the end, the people who want that must just have turned out to be a more lucrative market than we old-school types were. :XD:

    8. It’s heartbreaking to me that they no longer seem to produce boy dolls, or even 60s even. I have one of the Feeple 70s, and comparing him to my Shiwoo and Breakaway, I get why they discontinued them…but dang lol.

    9. Well, I wouldn't say I dislike the new dolls from Fairyland. But after a while the faces start to look alike. I feel like I have enough of them. The only thing that would get me to buy another one is if they made a Marcia minifee into an F60.

      • x 1
    10. Oh I understand why - money calls to all businesses, I simply think it's unfortunate for all of those collectors that liked their sculpts from prior to this current version of their look.

      • x 2
    11. Really the only thing that keeps me interested with Fairyland's new designs is Fairy's Atelier. Could you imagine some of the older sculpts rereleased with these beautiful new fashions?!

    12. I finally got around to taking some pictures of the dress I made a month ago. Got a bunch of real life stuff going on but it’s nice to take pics. My dining table is the only place with nice natural light lol.

    13. @coop52 Beautiful dress! And your Miyu is so lovely!
@IngieBee I've only had bits and pieces and I'm currently waiting on Dina's outfit & shoes from a split. So far, everything I've handled is so nice. Most recent clothing item I have from fairyland are Luha's shoes and they're gorgeous and really good quality!

    14. That sounds awesome. I'm getting ready to make something to match my FL full set for another doll, but I think I might wait to see what it looks like IRL so I can "match" it somewhat better. It won't be the same but I want something that works together.

    15. @coop52 your miyu is beautiful! I love her dress! :3nodding:

Its been a bit since I posted, going through some hard anxiety times, but i took this photo for my instagram today, and I uploaded a bunch to Flickr. Hope you like it! :whee:

    19. Sometimes the "classics" are just the best. My dreaming el Rhys is home from the spa. I will be restringing him today or tomorrow (he's quite floppy at the moment) and I might get him tattooed in the future as well.

    20. Oh wow, he's gorgeous @Nikki'sNewObsession ! I love the way the artist did him!

@SacredMonsoon I had 2 really good productive days, and I'm off in a few to exercise then I have a full list of things to do after. I hope I've changed my sluggish ways and will get things done around here :D

    21. Does anyone know the foot measurement of a type 2 girl? I dont have a ruler and i'm not sure what size trainers to get!

    22. Type 2 has 6.7cm feet, according to the CP Database.

    29. Adding to what Brightfires said about Fairyland and their niche, it really is sad to see sculpts with personality fizzle out of production from business calls. Even their early (post-Luts) MNFs like Marcia had a lot of character that for some reason got struck off the offered product lines.

But I don't think it's just a problem unique to Fairyland. I've been noticing Volks too has "same face syndrome" with their girls too. Most of the sdgrs & SD13s I've seen in the past 2-or-so years have been having the same face. Very sad to see (non-fantasy) aesthetic variety being so limited across the bjd market now.

Perhaps we'll just have to wait for a day where a company decides to break out of their comfort zone to see a return in variety. Until then, I'll probably just be here reminiscing about the good old days where companies like Luts, Elfdoll, Kawainino & Volks dared to make their dolls look different from one another.

    30. I think most professional artists struggle to find a balance between doing art for art's sake (i.e. trying new things, following their inspiration, etc) and trying to create something sellable. I like to think the sculptors at Fairyland would love to branch out, but feel pressured to keep designing what sells... but, maybe they're just into those cute girls and never liked making anything else.

A while back I ordered 2 pairs of Tianba eyes, hoping at least one of em would work for my Shine, Dantalion. Behold! I think these suit him really well!!! :aheartbea

    31. Woah, those are stunning! They pop so well with the faceup!

      • x 1
    32. Totally agree @clowve , though I do like some of them, rarely do they make something I want to buy.

Those eyes are amazing @overlordu !

      • x 1
    33. You're probably right. Odd thing is the "same face syndrome" seems to effect larger companies as opposed to smaller ones. I always thought being bigger meant room for more experimentation and A-B testing, since they would have more to cushion from a fall. Or maybe being smaller just means you're fighting harder to stand out more, who knows? Like this brand, DLace, imo is relatively not as well known as Fairyland/Volks but their dolls have been much more unique to what I've been seeing FL/VS offers, especially their machina series.

Anyway here's an old picture of Peanut I found to compensate for my wall of text haha
      [IMG]

      • x 3
    34. @clowve It is strange to think about; You would assume the larger companies would have more room to branch out and try new things! Fairyland seems to be doing that but more so in the fantasy parts and bodies, such as the release of fairyline and fantasy event heads. I mean, have you seen that new MNF Ingrid's event plates? They're so different and seem to be polarizing among fans. I guess from their point of view it's safer to get creative on the limited stuff and do what they know works where the real money is involved. Then you have a smaller sculptor like Harucasting who is just doing whatever comes into his mind, it seems! Like, he's definitely got a style you can see across his work but each of his dolls are so unique and have so much personality! While Cerberus Project will always have a special hold in my collection, I'm starting to lean more towards these small artist companies (kind of like how CP started!) because they're always producing something new and exciting!
Anyway, I've been kind of scatterbrained lately so idk if that wall of text made any sense. Here's a pic of Aiko and her ridiculously big eyes to make up for it lol

    35. Awww, he's so cute!

Gotta go look at the Ingrid faceplate now :D @kaboomkim :D

Yah, actually I see it differently. If you have a larger company, you have more employees who rely on you and that makes you more risk averse. But who knows.

Aiko is gorgeous as always, and it's funny but some of my favorite dolls have huge eyes, even so I thought I didn't like big unrealistic eyes years ago, I guess I love realism and anime looks :D

    36. @IngieBee Hm, didn't think about it that way! Guess it's a good thing I don't own a business lol :sweat The big eyes definitely don't work for every doll. But realism doesn't work for everybody either. Like, I'll probably be in the minority when I say this, but I've never been a huge fan of the MNF Marcia sculpt because her eyes seem too big and buggy to me. I like the rest of her face though! But I love Delfs Juri 05, If, and Soony and find their big buggy eyes charming! :whee:

    37. I don't know if I came across correctly, LOL. I used to think I didn't like big eyes, but I love my Juri 12 and just got a Marcia boy so I could use the body for my Juri20 and add the sleeping head to my old Marcia (though they've now got their own bodies) so 3 Marcias- one with sleep/dream eyes which I love. And I have a mnf DES and one of my favorite old delfs is Ari who is so rare! I would love to have a Delf Ari, DES and basically all of em, LOL

    38. @IngieBee I don't think I came across right either lol :sweat The way I understood you, was to say you thought your preference was realistic but have grown to like the big eyes/anime style as well. I was trying to say I felt similarly, because I've liked a little of both, just depends on the specific sculpt. Sorry, I've been kinda scatterbrained lately lol.*_*

    39. Eh, communication is hard, LOL. @kaboomkim :XD: IF you are lucky, 60% is understood, LOL :sweat

    40. @IngieBee Haha I 100% understood and agree with that :whee:
In other actual CP/Delf related news lol, I got some eyes for my Yder SP mod head that's been floating around! They're 16mm Mako Owl eyes. I wanted him to have brown eyes and found these on dollyteria when I made my last order there so I decided to grab them! I feel like the inside of his eye wells need some more evening out, and maybe the shape of his eyes too. It took forever to get these eyes positioned in there and I still think they look a little wonky! :doh Going to go out today and try to find some proper sanding supplies as this will be a new venture for me!

    41. Well, he looks really nice there. Just maybe the left eye should move toward the nose a little bit and you got it :D He's so cute! @kaboomkim

    42. @IngieBee I will try! It's hard to get his eyes to sit right, the wells are uneven some places in there, and the putty I'm using in him is blue and I'm afraid its going to show lol. I'll switch to white putty tomorrow and play around.

Also there's some Delfs on Buyee right now!!! This seller has a couple including what will hopefully be my future Lishe if I can scrape together some money in the next 4 days lol :eusa_pray Although if someone else can get her before me go for it!
There's also an Elf El and Elf Yder on their page :love All have legit paperwork & boxes!

    45. @Nasa Figure it out!!! LOL, I'm a horrible shameless enabler, LOL :sumomo:

    46. @Nasa, Buyee is a Yahoo Japan Auctions proxy. These dolls are all listed on Y!JA with Buy It Now prices. Here is the link to that seller’s listings on Y!JA: ヤフオク! - tbtbrosさんの出品リスト

You can use any Y!JA proxy that you want to buy Yder. Buyee is one, but there are others (and probably some reviews on DoA). You’ll have to sign up with the proxy and add credit card or PayPal info. They’ll buy the doll and have it shipped to them in Japan, then you can pick how they’ll ship it on to your location. There’s usually some variety of fee, usually a percentage of the item’s cost.

P.S. - The seller, tbtbros, has a Twitter in English: https://twitter.com/tbtbros?s=21 You might be able to message them there about Yder without going through a proxy? But the Twitter hasn’t been updated in a while. They also have a Facebook.

    47. I hope you guys can get those Delfs! I love the El, but it's impossible to afford right now. I hope someone gives them a good home!

I've been a bit unmotivated lately, but here's some Feather for the new week!

    48. What a pretty new dress! Feather is effortlessly gogeous and you take great pictures :D I need to do more, mine are .. kinda horrible, LOL

    49. Why thank you! That top is actually a minifee dress lol, but i'm not sure i'll ever get a minifee, so Feather has claimed it! You just need to play with it, i am by no means a photography person, i only use base settings and i just edit them with instagram settings! I hope you can post more of your crew!

    50. Yeah, I'm having a hard time coming up with spare funds for the Lishe. I had some money set aside for the July Harucasting preorder which I think I'm going to just go with instead of trying to get that Lishe. I mean, there's bound to be another Delf Lishe pop up sometime, and I have a spare Delf girl body I snagged a few weeks ago if all I get is a head.
The same seller has since listed a Lishe Special and Lishe Elf and they're all gorgeous :droolThere's also a Tanning DES. She's quite pricey, even before shipping & fees

    51. There were a LOT of Soo’s! I believe an original Soo, plus like, 2 or 3 DES?! I was sooo tempted to get a DES from that link but it’s just too out of budget! :sweat:sigh

    52. well, then you'll be pleased to know I did my usual MP sweep and Found A Thing That May Be A Yder. May be. We don't have all the data >____>

I see! Thank you for explaining, this is Not At All Dangerous information that I will Absolutely Use Responsibly >:3c

    53. Popping back in because I'm ADD and can't follow one thing at a time...:XD:
I have been following that person on Buyee for quite a while~ They have some lovely choices, but sadly I feel like they're out of my price range too. They had an Elf Shiwoo not too long ago (I'm not seeing it now) that I was badly wanting. But I'm dolly banned right now because I have "No impulse control" according to my husband.

    54. Gorgeous dolls on Y!JA but out of my price range too :XD:
I did my sleeping Woosoo's faceup! It's been nearly 10 years since I did a non-anthro faceup. I improved and look forward to keep improving!

    55. Are those prices on Buyee typical for Delfs these days? I'm newly returned to the hobby & wanted to seek out an El (and possibly a Soony), but those are steep for me for right now :sweat Might need to gather more funds than I thought...

    56. It seems to really vary by sculpt. Depending on condition, "emergency sale", mods/faceup, I've seen full Delf dolls go for around $400-550 for basic releases or more common sculpts, and certain hard to find ones like Woosoo or Soony go from $700-1200. I think the prices from that seller are a bit high, but they are also very limited dolls and hard to find. Sometimes seller will list for higher than normal if they are patient for the right buyer.

    57. I definitely suggest putting up a WTB here on DoA for an El. I did it and had one offered to me really quickly. I ended up paying $550 USD for him. That was with the company faceup. It is possible he could have been cheaper if he didn't have a faceup. Soony could be trickier because back when the Delfs were available she wasn't as popular as El was so I don't think there are as many out there in the wild.
