The Great Triathlon This year we contemplate the many hours we've spent with our dolls. To commemorate our twelfth anniversary, this Triathlon is a celebration of the hours we've invested in transforming our dolls into characters that are unique to our collection. The doll with whom you choose to share the next three weeks should be the one with a rich history, and maybe a secret or two. This year's theme is... "When the Clock Strikes!" There will be three feats of skill lasting one week each. Votes in these events will count as points, and points will be cumulative. At the end of the the three events, the person with the highest score wins! You must participate in all three events to have a chance at a prize - this is also a feat of endurance! Each challenge will be posted individually, according to the schedule posted below. Triathlon Schedule You will have one weekend day at the beginning and the end of each challenge. There will be no downtime between challenges; the first round will close and the next round will open immediately. Voting will be open for a full week for the first two challenges, so you will not know your first round scores until you have finished your second challenge! Challenge One Opens: Sunday August 7th 12am (00:00hrs) EDT Submission Deadline: Saturday August 13th 11:59pm EDT Challenge One Voting Opens: Monday August 15th 12pm EDT Challenge One Voting Closes: Saturday August 20th 11:59pm EDT Challenge One Voting Results Post: Sunday August 21th 11:59pm EDT Challenge Two Opens: Sunday August 14th 12am EDT Submission Deadline: Saturday August 20th 11:59pm EDT Challenge Two Voting Opens: Monday August 21st 12pm EDT Challenge Two Voting Closes: Saturday August 27th 11:59pm EDT Challenge Two Voting Results Post: Sunday August 28th 11:59pm EDT Challenge Three Opens: Sunday August 21st 12am EDT Submission Deadline: Saturday August 27th 11:59pm EDT Challenge Three Voting Opens: Sunday August 28th 3pm EDT Challenge Three Voting Closes: Wednesday August 31st 11:59pm EDT Winners Announced: Friday September 2nd Noon EDT Please pay attention to the deadlines! Congrats to everyone! I am absolutely obsessed with @Sharkyra 's doll's wig and whole look and ambience and everything about her project. Very well deserved 1st place! And second place-props to @ForestHiker for being so new to the board too and kicking butt! and third place @HallowHawlk are also fabulous! So much work and talent went into that! Bravo to everyone! I'm so jealous of all of you! Wish I had just an inch of your talents!
Congrats to the winners! This was such a fun contest and I'm just flabbergasted I did so well as a newbie. 5th place!!! Better than I had ever hoped! Thanks so much mods for putting on such a wonderfully fun contest! It made my August fly by.
Congratulations everyone! Ooooh, I came in fourth, so close! Much better than I did last year This was so much fun, and it was such a treat to compete alongside so many talented people!
Congratulations, winners! I did about the same as I usually do, no real surprise there (if I counted right, I think I'm tied for 24th place? ) Ah well. Still love my clock :3
You at least had the guts to do it. I'm too chicken to ever attempt something like this. This is such an accomplishment. Regardless of place, you should be so proud of yourself! Which one was your entry? We are allowed to ask people now, right?
Mine was the one with the red lace lingerie/black chiffon robe, the antique-style clock, and the unicorn horn transformation
Oh my gosh I'm in disbelief..... I just jumped around my room screaming and scaring my cat guys. I'm so honored to have placed...especially since I'm new! Thank you all so much for your votes you guys. Congratulations to the other winners as well and to everyone who participated!!! You are all amazing
(cross posted from the part three thread) Big congrats to ALL the winners and congrats to everyone who participated! Was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it to me to try out and I hope all of you feel the same! We can share pics of our dolls now right?
Yup! @St. James just said you could! Please do. I'd love to see what everyone did! Bravo!! You did a wonderful job!
@ForestHiker That clock is possibly the cutest prop I've ever seen. I wish I had a full-sized one for my bedroom!
Thank you all very much Well, @Meggethann at least I can help you out with the wig, unfortunately it seems to be sold out at the moment. And congrats to everyone who participated! I have great respect for everyone who managed to get three challenges finished in such a short time.
Congratulations!! The winners are some really incredible entries! I'm...pretty surprised I managed sixth place, I did so badly with my rushed crooked clock, haha. Apparently my transformation worked out quite a bit better? I'm Chalcedony!
This lovely little lady was my muse for the contest. Which even though we didn't place worked out amazingly well as I learned a lot more about her during the triathlon. Of course now she's gotten a face up and body blushing so she looks a bit different than she did during the festivities.
Thanks for the identity reveals!! Congratulations to @Sharkyra, @ForestHiker and @HallowHawlk!!! @TwistedRiver I LOVED your GIF entry It was one of my top picks! @Antorell Your GIF really communicated a story, I loved how you changes the nightscape background to indicate the passage of time. Super adorable overall!
Congratulations to the winners and everyone who finished and everyone who who did any part of this. And all the mods who worked on this too! I've always wanted to try the triathlon, but it's such a big commitment that always conflicted with my own anniversary so I never got the chance. Haha, but this year things sort of came together. I'm so glad I was able to join you all. Haha, now we can all get some food and some rest. Here is Alexandria, finishing off a hot cup of tea. Cheers!
Congratulations to everyone on their well deserved wins and to all who participated! See ya all next year!!
XD my alias was "Silk" and I was the one with the little stained glass robot. My Mini-Machina, Zero, was my muse for the challenges and it was very fun to think of her character a bit more! It's so cool to see who did what! The little mouse and cicada faerie were some of my favorites!
Congrats to the winners this year! You had amazing entries. My name for this contest was jellofish. I joined in with my drama queen, Seth (he hates being called that). edit: I was finally able to get onto my computer and post this picture. I really enjoyed making my outfit for round one. Trying to get the plastic to bend the way I wanted it to was really hard on my hands though. I felt like I rushed the last two challenges because I had school starting up again. So the clock and mermaid tail aren't even finished yet. Though one of my friends is taking the clock off my hands to add her own style to it. I had fun with this year's triathlon and hope to participate next year. Everyone had amazing entries.
Congrats to the winners! I loved seeing everyone's entries this year! @TwistedRiver Yours was one of my faves. I love your little Scorpio! She's precious!
@Arekushia Thank you so much! The background was actually a huge circle pinned to the wall in the middle so I'd be able to turn it. I had a hard time/w that! Had to tape multiple pieces of huge paper together to make it big enough, and it was still difficult finding photo angles that didn't go off the edges of the sky. And I painted it outdoors because it was huge and I'm so messy with paint, so I was getting pine needles stuck all through the milky way the entire time, and the humidity almost destroyed it. @TwistedRiver I was hoping someone would post to say the little scorpion was theirs. Your entries were super cute! @Sharkyra @ForestHiker @HallowHawlk You obviously won with all around stunning entries, but I am super impressed with your clocks especially. Teach me the secrets of not having your clock hands fall off all the time? I really want to know who had the transformation with all the pompoms and googly eyes. I loved that one so much!
Thank you everyone! Aggi will be happy to know she has so many admirers! It was so much fun to try my hand at this and I'm looking forward to next year. Seconding this! I had so much trouble with my clock hands that if they hadn't needed to move I would have glued them in place. :P
@Antorell Oh wow, I had no idea it was a giant circle, that's awesome!! It really turned out amazing, I loved it!
Right?? I might have spent more time searching for them in the moss than shooting for the gif. It took tweezers to pick them up, put them back on, and move them. There's even a hand missing in my final photo. CLOCK HANDS. HOW DO THEY WORK.
I used a brad to anchor my clock hands, but they kept sticking together because they were just plastic, paint and glue :P
When I was moving my clock hands for my gif, the minute hand actually bent I was so afraid of it breaking off that I was like, holding my breath to get it in place and try to bend it back. I think when I put the unicorn picture on the face, a little dab of paste was sticking up from the center hole that it got stuck on. So I feel you guys on the clock hands!
My alias was "Agrias" this year I attempted to do both the triathlon and the couture contest and I never regret anything more in life.... Its been days and I'm still really tired lmao
It was really fun to see all the creative interpretations of the theme in the entries! Congratulations to the winners! Aeneas, I loved your lazercut design and detailed outfit execution. It was one of my favorites!
Congratulations to all of the winners and participants for this year! The Triathalon is always one of the most challenging things to participate in, even if you only make it through one round. Give yourselves a pat on the back and go relax for a while! If anyone was wondering, my alias was Cobrastan this year.
Wow! Congrats on a job well done to the winners, and seriously, congrats to ALL of you. There were SO MANY great entries! There was something to love about each of them!
@Antorell ...believe it or not this part still puzzles me, too. No seriously. I took an existing clock apart and put it back together and it still worked. Granted the clock was nothing fancy, a cheap travel clock with the simplest quartz mechanism inside. I took it apart, literally every part that could be removed was removed. I was convinced that I broke off the hands when I removed them. I didn't have any special instruments to do this, just a pair of pincers. There were all this little pieces, the hands, two tiniest rings, three gear wheels and the main mechanism inside this tiny box. Then I constructed everything back around the new clock face. I felt incredibly lucky, when I was able to put back the hand that shows the seconds and it locked back into place, securing the other hands *and* the mechanism on the back sie. But I was even more surprised that when I put back the crown and the hands began to move again. Please note, I'm not saying that the clock now really shows the time accurately, all I'm saying is that the hands at least move by themselves again.
(I already posted my congrats in the other thread, but anyway …) Congratulations to the winners! And Congratulations to everyone who participated! Everybody worked so hard on their entries, you must all have spent a lot of time. I hope you all had fun, too! During triathlon time, I was actually involved with all sorts of activities with my band, including travelling. I scribbled my ideas during train rides … My alias was Jiva. Mine is the red-headed bear boy. He is my first doll, and it was a pleasure to do something for him. However, he is the worst poser of my crew … DoA Triathlon by Evie ex Machina, on Flickr DoA Triathlon by Evie ex Machina, on Flickr @Antorell Thank you! I had a great time with the googly eyes.
Congratulations to everyone! It was so much fun to see everyone's takes on the challenges and I'm really glad I participated this year. I'm crispfallnight, with the rose petal armour/pink clock/swan harpy entries
Congratulations everyone! This was such a fun contest and it really pushed me to make things for my doll that I normally wouldn't have. I can't wait for next year's triathlon...although next year I need to get a setup for indoor photography. Florida, outside, in August is a no-go. I was attacked by two different types of ants! But it was worth it for this photo. Thanks everyone!
I tied for 28th place, which was about what I expected too, but it's no big deal for me either. I love what I made and that's the most important thing! I entered with Gabriel, my very first doll, who I still love as much as... not the day I got him, but the day I finally made him mine. I've been meaning to make that sheer robe for him for ages, so the Triathlon was just the kick in the pants I needed to get it done! style3 by vicemage, on Flickr
Congratulations to the winners! It was well deserved. I used the alias "Asphodel" and didn't complete the third challenge... But I hope to participate again next time! To be honest, Olives outfit is the first I've made for her that I was actually proud of, so theres that
I am glad too! Thank you! I am already working on new ideas for next year (looking up how to build background props and what not). 13 should be a fun year!
Ooh congratulations to the winners! Well deserved all of you. Hell everyone who entered this year did a fantastic job. I was away for the weekend so didn't realise results were already up! I was the person with the Rococo obsessed Android boy, who had both the light up clock and poorly photographed light up transformation... I'm so going to reuse the frock-coat pattern I managed to dig up for this contest in better material for another doll (Mr Bowie's fabulous Earthling-tour era Union Jack coat)
