What is the meaning behind your DOA username?

Jan 21, 2015

    1. My first name is Alice, so Wonderland came from there. The Faerie part just came from Fairy not being available on a site so I had to do the best next thing and spell it non-traditionally!

    2. I love Star Trek so that's where my username comes from.

    3. Ages ago I designed and made miniature hats for a friend of mine who designed clothing for dollhouse dolls. Her business was called "The Fairy Tailor", so my designs were labelled "The Fairy Milliner".

    4. My username is a combination of my first name (Lotte) and the 'Rotten'-part I simply stole from Johnny Rotten (Sex Pistols). This has been my username pretty much everywhere on the Internet for the last +20 years.... ><

    5. My first BJD is named Sai, and the blog I used to keep for him was called Sai By Sai, because he prefers to...talk about himself when he talks? Teensy bit of ego there...

That said, I have comsidered the idea of changing it, but So Much Work.

    6. Way back in the 1980/90's I showed Shetland Sheepdogs they are still my favorite breed of dog so use Sheltie

    7. Waaaay back when AOL was an actual ISP (I was on AOL 1, no lie) you could only have one username, and since the account was shared between my partner and myself we decided to make a name from both of ours: M (for my name), B (for hers), and Quinn (because our last name is O'Quinn). MB Quinn was taken, so we phoneticized it as "Emby". Later on, when they gave you more than one username, my darling became "My T Quinn" ("Mighty Quinn", from the old song) and I kept the Emby Quinn name. Under that name I started putting out kisekae sets and writing fanfic and...well, the rest is history.

    8. My username admittedly is a hold over from when I was a my little pony collector. Firecracker was my ponysona back then. I used it once again as a username when I fell into collecting Monster high dolls because I couldn't think of anything else, and then it became FirecrackerSparks here. I'd probably change it if I had the choice because I just don't feel like it fits anymore, but no big deal. It's not like my first forum usernames that I would be embarrassed to use nowadays. They all started with kitten. Not cringey like say having old fandom shame or something just that I don't want to be referred to as kitten when I'm a guy :XD:

    9. This was a very fun thread to read thru, always love to get to know the reasoning behind a name.

Mine came from my love of fairytales and preferably the grimdark ones collected by the brother's Grimm. I changed the I into Y since Y is the first letter of my real name, plus I like the longer more growling phonetics of using an Y. Mademoiselle was just a bit thrown in there, having the idea in mind that I would see myself ending as an old witch with lots of cats and dolls and never getting married. That last part failed, so I probably have to change it into madame if I ever get the chance.

    10. the story behind my name is pretty lame, I guess XD it is just an anagram of my first name^^
I usually use another name but I really don't know anymore why I decided to go for a different one within the BJD-community... maybe at the beginning the hobby seemed just kinda "off" to me... and I was not sure if I even belong here, I guess :XD:
...meanwhile, I know that I totally belong here. I think at the beginning I just couldn't relate to myself as the crazy doll-lady I am.
So... here I am: Lornica :sweat

    11. "Momo" was one of the first nick I ever used online (Thanks to Peach Girl!), but I had to think of a complement 'cause some sites usually asked for a 5-characters-login to sign up. Back in the day I was a huge fan of a Jrock band called An Cafe and Bou was my favourite... so I just attached "Bou" to my nick and ~TCHA~RANS~ Momobou was born :XD:

Years have passed and I became a writer, so now I mostly use a pseudonym related to my real name wich make it easier for people to find me around. This is the last place where I still uses my old teen's nick due to the fact that I like to keep my hobby and my career separeted. Most of my BJDs are versions of the characters in my texts and both resin and paper versions have their own features, therefore I don't like to mix them.

    12. saito is from saito hajime, I really love him, yui is from a animation, I love that female character~~

    13. I get called joker alot because I'm goth but I wear red lipstick and the Dresden dolls song 'girl anachronism' fits me to a T but all my other accounts user name was a nickname from my grandma

    14. OtakuSquirrel is derivative from an old e-mail account of mine- ThomSquirrel... which was based on the name of a plush travel companion I've had since I was a kid. I updated it to OtakuSquirrel a number of years ago when I got more involved in going to anime conventions, and switched over to it almost completely when I got involved with the MLP fandom and was customizing toys and selling stuff. I also use it for my DeviantArt name, and I use it a bunch of other places as well... though it's not exactly exclusive- I'm always finding other people who are trying to use at the odd random website... I just want to know why they didn't google search it first and why they want to be confused with a 42 year old dude who plays with toy ponies (and now dolls). :XD:

    15. OMG! Glad you asked! :)

`Funtomite` is actually the username I use for my hobbies only, for my professional stuff I use a different username(Got to keep work and life separated ;) ).
I have been using that since my lolita days back in Uni. I'm a huge Kuroshitsuji fan, so `Funtom` is the company name for the Phantomhive family, `ite` is just something I added because I'm a Pokemon nerd, think mega stone... So yeah, that's pretty much it :D

    16. Oh, great question :) All because of one guy! From what I've heard his real name is Manabu Satoru. But his stage name is Mana. When you refer to Mana you add sama to his name as he is an idol and person of great importance in Japan. Sama, a more polite version of san, sensei, for teachers, kun and chan. These titles are placed after the name.

He once were the guitarist and leader of a legendary band called "Malice Mizer" but they disbanded in 2001. Shortly after they disbanded I discovered the band. His current band is "Moi Dix Mois" but I'm more a fan of Malice Mizer. He is also the father of Gothic Lolita fashion, or what put it on the map, made it popular. He used to be featured in the "Gothic & Lolita Bible" in every issue of the magazine for a long time. In 2016 the magazine dropped him and he would no longer be featured there. Shame on them for dropping the father of Gothic Lolita fashion himself!

Mana-sama used to portray a doll like character in his Malice Mizer days both on and off stage. He whould always crossdress in his music videoes, at least in all videos I've seen. Dolls don't speak, and neither do Mana-sama in public. Partly it is to not destroy his doll like appearance, but also he claim to be very shy. He also says that the music is his voice.

I've since I discovered him and his band(s) always admired him in so many ways. To me he is like a doll. Because of him I got into the BJD hobby. I wanted a doll of him. And am now the happy ovner of a MNM doll of him and his former vocalist Gackt.

The meaning behind the username "Manabu" as in I freaking love the guy and want his name to be a part of my username to show that. And I couldn't just leave out the "sama" part because I always refer to him as "Mana-sama."

My userpicture is not me either. I usually always have a picture of Mana-sama as my userpicture.

Ah, sorry if I went a little over board with my post :sweat But you can't keep the fan out of me :blush

    17. This is such a cool thread! I love finding out the creativity and history that went into people's names. Like a lot of other people, my username is my name all over the internet. I used to run a writing blog, as well. Basically it's a stupid pun... In high school Spanish, I really liked the word for "word"- palabra; I've always loved books, and to me, words are magical (so, abra cadabra).
My only other online name (Tastetheembow) is for the couple of platforms where Palabracadabra was taken (at least once it was "taken" by me with an old email and I got locked out). That has no real meaning haha, just my name (Em) inserted into the Skittles' slogan, because it seemed funny at 3am.

    18. I'm named after one of my cats, Gwydion, who was named after one of the characters in The Mists of Avalon. And actually, I just liked the name.

    19. The Clarice part comes from the heroine of my favourite novel: Thomas Harris's Silence of the Lambs - her name is Clarice Starling, and I am very much inspired by her courage and determination. (Clarice is also my middle name)
The Raven part comes from my original novel, because its protagonist's last name is Raven (she has black hair, which is why I named her Raven, but that is such a lame reason haha)
I also write my novels under the penname of Clarice Raven, so I guess I'm just used to it. :)

    20. There is a Blythe doll called Mademoiselle Rosebud. I'm past general "mademoiselle" age, so I'm Madame Rosebud instead. :)

    21. Basically I started using "Amaya" when I was 11 as a nickname. I added BJD to it in my instagram, so people know what my account is specific for. I kept it for DOA, so it's easier to find me

    22. I just wanted a handle for my doll sideblog. I never intended to get this deep so I didn't think about it much at the time. my train of thought was just "what's something to do with dolls. pinocchio is almost a doll. nocchio...nocchios! Done" I don't really use that blog anymore, but I like keeping usernames neat, so all my doll accounts also became nocchios. it worked out pretty well, actually!

    23. Mine is basically my favorite number and a character I liked from a book. Although I thought I'd name my first doll Midori, but she had other plans.

    24. It's very simple - my name on the DOA is the first letter of the name and surname. I use this combination of letters half my life in certain cases, it is simple, memorable and I'm too lazy to come up with something else)

    25. It's.. well. It's my name :XD:

    26. Mine's dinosaur in Welsh because I live in Wales and I suppose I was feeling old the day I registered!

    27. My username was given to me as a joke by a few friends back in 2012? It's a combination of my name and...yeah. It's not a great nickname/username, but I now currently go by Meibio (may-bee-o) which...really has no meaning behind it. It was a random name I gave to myself but I love using it more.

    28. Triexiz is the main character from a story I wrote when I was twenty-two or twenty-three years old...She is my most loved character that's why I use her name. I use it everywhere except Facebook.

    29. Mine is a reference to my favorite movie V for Vendetta and Guy Fawkes. Every year on Nov 5th in Britain school kids will make a Guy Fawkes effigy to burn for Bonfire night and they take it out that day and ask for tips and donations saying 'Penny for the Guy, Sir/Ma'am?'. V also says it towards the end of the film. So make it one word and there ya go.

    30. I just imagine how cute it would be to get owlhugs hehe

    31. It's the full name of my doll! :)

He's named Jaqen after my clownfish (who is orange on one side and white on the other, like Jaqen H'ghar).

His middle name come from his sculpt's name.

Finally his last name comes from Luke Triton (Professor Layton character) who partly inspired him.

    32. It's kind of a play on my real name that one of my Japanese friends came up with when they were helping me with Kanji spellings for my name.

    33. I was super into Kingdom Hearts as a kid and made a Nobody name and started using it.
Some places I shorted it to Esty and prefer it to my real name.

    34. It's the name of a town from my favourite podcast (WTNV) plus a line from Good Morning Baltimore (from Hairspray) which I once wrote an embarrassing parody of thus changing the line from Baltimore and Me to Desert Bluffs and Me. I used it on my Tumblr account and now it's everywhere!

    35. Well my name is actually pronounced "Chichico"
and my username is actually my instagram ID.
I don't really have a special meaning behind this name. I just wanted to eat some chickens at the time, I think.
I also liked the idea of having a "Ch(Ts)" in a name but I didn't want to go with the basic "Tsyu" or "Tsuki"

I've always thought that having repetition was really cute in usernames (Like Nana or Lala, you know what I mean)
I'm very happy with my username, Chichico. I can't change it now because I made a model group out of my OC's and the group is called "CHCF" (CHiCo Family)(Chico is a short alternative)

I think the nickname "Chichico" is very lovely and memorable ;) Don't you think?

    36. oooooooh boy *cracks knuckles* story time!!
This might not actually be interesting, but my name has a long-ish history and development so I actually love telling it!

So the "elf" part comes from my nickname in high school when all of my friends gave each other weird nerdy nicknames and mine was "Elf" because I have long, blonde hair and we were just doing Lord of the Rings marathons. I then decided to use that as my online name for a Facebook page that I was running with a couple friends, as well as my name on tumblr.

When I started a deviantart account, of course Elf was taken as a name, so I added "rogue" onto it since Rogue was my favourite X-Men character at the time...but then later I wanted to change it to "dragon-elf" since I am obsessed with dragons. I didn't want to pay for the upgrade to change my name, though, so I just used dragon-elf on other sites as my username.

But then I joined League of Legends and "dragonelf" was taken, too, so I stuck "ace" on the front since I was identifying as asexual. Ever since, I've used "AceDragonElf" as my go-to name for everything...it's pretty unique and I think it sounds really cool, so it works for most things that I sign up for.

Having the "elf" at the end has kind of changed my nickname on League to "Ace" though...which is still cool

    37. I live in New Zealand and I am what is commonly called a Kiwi ( Our National bird ). Kiwiana is basically everything New Zealand. Especially NZ collectables and Maori culture. I collect a lot of NZ original Art, vintage Maori dolls and a lot of other vintage Kiwiana stuff.

    38. im usually the older person in my group of friends in my hobby which is the onee-chan, so older sister in Japanese, and taichou means captain since i am the captain of my crew and take charge when i need to.

coming up with nicknames is hard for me... so sometimes i wish i could change them

    39. It’s the username I’ve used online since I was about 10, but it’s based on the character Usada from Di Gi Charat.

    40. I don't remember what exactly gave me this username but i have a slight memoru where i got it from a deviantart artwork? Idk how and why i ended up using this username for my email too

    41. Raccoonball-I like raccoons which look like balls when moving.:)

    42. Kultakorppi is a username I use in lots of places. It's Finnish for "golden raven".

    43. This site for angels, and I from very snowy country. So.. That's it. Haha

p.s. Amazing that this name was not taken yet

    44. I usually use some form of Cassandra online. Since Cassandra was already taken, I used this version...which is basically how Cassandra is pronounced in Japanese.

    45. My name is Amber = Kohaku in Japanese.

    46. Hahaha mine is actually very simple! Johaun Davy is a name I made up to make my actual name sound more english. My name is João David. João is a very particular portuguese sounding name and it's actually pronounced like Johaumm a little so I adapted it! I've been using this name online a lot! And I guess it's just a version of my real name =)

    47. My name's from a video game I've never even played, I just thought it sounded cool.

    48. It's an affectionate nickname my parents gave me as a kid.

    49. Saba means 'seven' in Swahili- I had just purchased my seventh Blythe doll whose name was Saba- then I was transitioning over to bjd's, so Saba became my username to be a sort of bridge between my two doll interests :)

    50. all of my social media usernames are the same, and I wanted this one to be different so no one can identify me. So, I just kind of came up with something on the spot. I can think of like ten better names now though.

    51. Mine is super boring.

The 16 is because that's the year that I legally changed my name. And the S, V and C are the initials of my new name.
I changed my name because my Dad's side of the family disowned me when I got pregnant with my son. Over the years they treated us horribly even though my parents made them apologise and add me back to the family. They made sure I knew I wasn't welcome or wanted in many other ways.

So the name itself is boring, but the reason I guess is quite personal.

    52. Kai is my name and nukke means doll in finnish ^^ I was rushing to register and be part of DoA so to learn more about the hobby. I just started and got my first doll last week. Anyhow, that’s the first which popped up so ”kainukke” it is. Hehe.....

    53. I just like bad puns and thought it was kinda funny... :sweat

    54. I'm pretty sure that I just couldn't think of a good username and I saw a little coffee stain on my clothes and that gave me the inspiration, haha.

    55. honcho was a really good internet friend of mine ( i may or may not have had a big crush on) who I lost contact with but i liked the name and dolls of course!

    56. Not a deep story behind my member name.
TimebeforeDawn means just that. Before the first rays of sunrise appearing on the horizon over the ocean, Midnight, the early hours when everything is so incredibly peaceful. Moonlight shadows, coolness of the air in those hours. The night sky usually so clear you can see a nice amount. It is before the day begins with the usual hustle.

    57. I just really love Watership Down.

I've been using this as a username since middle school. I've since changed it for my other doll accounts because at some point in my life I decided I didn't want my online name to be a fictional character, plus nowadays it's often already taken. I kind of regret this now though because I still love Watership Down xD

    58. I like the anime Ayashi no Ceres. So I adopted the name for social media / collection stuff

    59. My name is Lidia, so I took the L and I liked the result: idia

    60. When I got my first doll, an assembled Parabox basic set...

I removed the top half of the head to take it off the body, which is when I saw that there was a very small screw holding it in place. Oh no! But thankfully, I already go around everywhere with a tiny screwdriver :D This was no obstacle at all and I didn't need to improvise or buy new tools! (I was very proud of myself at the time)

This was one of the most striking memories I have about doll ownership, for some reason, and "tiny screwdriver" just sounds cute, haha ☆
