Show off your pets!

Aug 5, 2015

    1. @Rosslyn what can I say - I have a kitty boy named Carter (almost phonetically identical with German "Kater" = male cat) ...
@Lady Tiku if little Sev ever gets a green friend, that one will be called Sir Hiss for sure. ^^ And I'm totally doing the tiny top hat once he's big enough!

    2. @Jany Severus Snake is the best name, props to everyone else for the idea. He's so tiny and adorable~

Honestly you guys and your unusual pet names are making me feel better about my own pet name choices :XD: I'll probably be back here next Thursday with a new addition to the family. His name is Vitya, but I'll keep his true identity a secret until then

    4. @Dolliie
Awww, what precious little furballs! I love their names too, they sound very sophisticated~ :kitty1

Surgery pup update: She managed to leap two laundry baskets to get upstairs and then couldn't get back down and had to be carried while wrapped in a rug. And then, of course, she got up the stairs again not half an hour later and got down perfectly fine. I think she's messing with us. (I will post a picture one of these days...)

(kind of small/low quality phone photo alert!) This was taken on his first morning home.

    11. Thank you! I've always liked the name but I couldn't pin it on a future kid and doom them to explaining that there's like twenty different ways to say it, so I gave it to the dog, and it fits her. Your fluff pupper is a cutie, too!

    12. Scaly boy Sev is finally home!

This one is Luna my one year old puppy. She's such a cutie! I got her for my husbands birthday but she loves her mommy just as much! [IMG]IMG_0268 by Walker Girl, on Flickr

I also have a parrot, a bird, and two reptiles but it's a hassle to take pictures of them all lol.

    14. Annix has no danger sense, but neither does Tigger so it's all good. (Trigger warning: Tigger is a tarantula)

    19. After losing our beloved Staffy (who I think I've posted here before) just after christmas of 2015, it took us such a long time to even think about getting another pet again. But we did, and for the past 4 mths, this little fluffbutt has taken over our lives and our home. And sometimes our ankles... She really doesn't like it when we have to go to bed... But here, meet my beloved little Bullet.

Here are two of my giant african land snails, they've since gotten a lot bigger, lol. I love this photo because it looks like one is giving the other a kiss :D

    28. So fluffy! And big sneks! <3 Are they all as cuddly as Cicero looks?

    29. I handle them a lot, so they tend to be pretty friendly. Clementine likes to watch TV. :)

    30. That's so adorable ^^ Sev isn't big on being handled (yet), I hope I can still get him used to it. It was tricky with his tiny baby tank because it was so awful to open. The only time he went onto my hands was to attempt escape

    31. My experience has been that younger snakes are a little more difficult to handle, but they mellow as they age. I would be able to give better advice if it was a BP because that's where my experience is, but just be patient. If you keep handling about once a week just about any snake will adapt to it. :D Good luckkkkkk

    32. Thankies! He's only half a year old, I guess he'll learn I'm not dangerous to him. :)

    34. Look at all the floof! I'm all about my pets myself, so here goes.

Mei-Mei, a Japanese Akita. She's basically my grail whom I got on layaway and who got stuck in customs. It'd be funny if it weren't so awful. She has to spend 2 more months in quarantine because her breeder messed up her paperwork. I never even got to meet her and she's already everyone's dog but mine.

Marie - French Bulldog - in her little dress. 36 allergies and just had to get her airways done so she can finally breathe. Yeah, I think this breed needs to change. She's been through a lot. She even got kidnapped and had a loose tooth pulled without any anesthesia. She's one tough girl.

      She's also a frequent flyer.

Nushi. Not much to say about him. He's so good he's boring. So good actually, that he fought a vicious dog larger than himself to protect us. Didn't hesitate at all.

      Did I say he's a good dog?

Guu. I can't really show her personality without another dog to bring it out. She's reasonably daft. Also deaf. And lacks a cerebellum. She's an american Akita, ie. the size of a Rottweiler, but she is so daft she's totally innocent. She also roars at doors she wants to open. I always open them for her so she doesn't lose her adorable little belief. We love Guu!

Ravioli. He's a bit daft, too. I love him. He was found in a dumpster when he was 10 days old and I fostered him. He's a velcro cat.

Orli-Pompom, the perfect little Persian. She's so fluffy!

Baby Claude, whom I handreared. He loves dogs!

Chutzpi the fat. Put me in the ER once when he freaked out at the vet's.

Chetzi has a bad case of resting bitch face, but he can actually be very sweet. When I'm sad, he mews worriedly and hurries to my side to lick the tears off my face.

    36. @WeLoveGuu oh my gosh I just love every one of your animals! I could totally see a tv show or cartoon about them being quite entertaining. :whee:

    37. @WeLoveGuu AXOLOTL! We had those when I was a teen ... Dad rescued a load of golden 'lotl eggs from the university and we raised a fair few of them. Forever my favorite bitty dragons! <3

And that pic of Guu and Marie cracked me up. Marie looks like she's thinking "for real?" :huh?: and Guu all like "NOM" :chomp:

    38. Gawd I want them to have their own show!

    39. I want Axolotls SO BAD but they're impossible to find where I live /despair

You have quite the zoo! Next time my hubby hassles me for being an "animal hoarder" I can set him straight haha

      • x 1
    40. Hey, you're only a hoarder if you can't care for them properly :3nodding:

When I lived in Israel, axolotls were illegal altogether because "hurr durr salmonella" - which I got from tiramisu, which is legal - so there I was, all out of axolotls and had to make due with an ugly lobster instead.

    44. Guys, I have a riddle for you.

Imagine you come home to find the tongs used to feed the snake on the sofa. You know there are two cats in the house, one of which loves watching the snek but might have learned by now not to paw at anything snek-related.
Upon picking up the tongs in order to put them back to their place on the (closed) snek tank, said cat flinches like a cat who has been pawing at stuff he knows he's not supposed to paw at, and takes flight into the bathroom.
Following him into the bathroom, you see the snake on the floor.
Snake is cold and limp as a noodle. (Usually Sev thrashes like a mad thing if I try to pick him up.)

That's the pet crime scene that greeted me when I got home today.

No teeth mark could be found on the limp noodle that this morning had been a squiggly snake, but he looked pretty darn dead nonetheless. So I put him in a container and called my bestie, who is an experienced snake-keeper. While filling her in on the mystery, I looked into the container and saw the snake moving.
No body, no pet murder! But still, the tank had been closed and even though I wouldn't necessarily put it past my cats to open it (in theory), they couldn't have closed it again. (Nor would they have even if they could, having a freshly escaped snake to chase.)

Bestie solved the riddle, though. Here's a post-crime pic of the tank - can you spot the difference to the before pics?

      • x 3
    45. Better post-crime scene look. Mr. Severus Snake did a Black and broke out of Azkaban - he can fit between the freaking glass panes. :doh Luckily one of garter snakes' defenses is playing dead, and double lucky Mr. Fuzzybottom has the attention span of a squirrel.

Now there's an unsightly strip of cardboard stuck in the "gap" between the panes. We're working on a better solution, but it works for now.

    47. Mei-Mei, my grail dog. We're probably having a litter in a week or so. That wasn't really planned, but at least both parents are health-screened and pedigreed.

    48. Just an update since this photo, my snails have gotten very large and the albino one dropped some eggs the other day!
I wasn't planning on having hatchlings, but the lil shit retained its eggs til the last minute and they were already hatched when I found em (I check the tank for eggs daily). I'll probably just give most of the babies away free to good homes, but I'm keeping two for myself because it's my snails first clutch so it's special ;p

    49. :whee: Itty bitty snailses! Too cute! What a sneaky snail though, hiding them like that ...

    50. Yeah I knew they could retain their eggs, but I did not realize they could literally retain them til the day they are due to hatch, lol. I won't lie though, it was an exciting discovery ;p
