How does this work? Every round, you try to make one complete outfit (or more) that fits the theme as you interpret it. It doesn't have to conform 100% to it (feel free to be creative in your interpretation!) These projects are here to inspire your sewing and creativity. During the four weeks, you post your plans, inspiration images, progress pictures etc. It's no contest, there is no winner, we all just try to motivate each other. NOTE: Sewing Project is free for anyone to join whenever they want. New faces are always welcome at anytime during the round. There’s a bit of the bohemian in all of us (and in our dolls too!) It’s style is described as a free-spirited aesthetic that mixes different cultures and artistic expressions into an eclectic style with an emphasis on organic elements and nature. Think unconventional and free spirited. Think mixing and matching with a carefree air. Think dressing for personal expression and hanging out in a coffee shop. Think retro. Think dressing for comfort and reading poetry in the park. Week 1: 2/1-2/7 * Pick a doll and post their name, sculpt and picture * Decide what you want to make and post a description or inspiration images * If you use pre-made patterns, decide on which ones to use * If you make your own patterns, get started on that. If you have trouble finding or making your patterns, ask for help in the thread! Week 2: 2/8 to 2/15 * Buy or get done with your patterns * Gather your materials (fabrics, notions etc.) and post a picture/pictures of them! * Get started with the sewing and post progress pictures! Week 3 and 4: 2/16 to the end of February * Try to get the whole outfit done! * If you have time left over, make some accessories! When you are done, make sure to post a picture of the completed outfit, if possible on the doll! Coming rounds: [ Round 144 ] Science Fiction/Fantasy/Cosplay [ Round 145 ] Basics [ Round 146 ] Comfy-wear/Sleepwear/Delicate Underpinnings [ Round 147 ] Unfinished Business [ Round 148 ] The Alternative Styles: Emo/Goth/Punk/Steampunk/Cyberpunk (Glamrock/Jrock/Visual Kei/New Romantics) [ Round 149 ] Mori Style/Dark Mori/Cottagecore [ Round 150 ] Designer’s Choice! After a long hiatus from all things dolls and sewing due to LifeTM, this seems like the perfect project to get back into things! I think I'm going to try to sew a flowy robe for my FaeWoodsDolls Orchidaceae (aka Nim).
I’m going to continue on with the wardrobe needs of an incoming doll, and make a pair of fun overalls to go with the two blouses I made for her last month. My stand-in model for this project will be my Peakswoods Briana, Second-hand Rose. Here is my inspiration: And here are the fabrics I’ll use for a fun pieced mix-and-match look:
Things have calmed down a bit around here, so this month I hope to be able to participate properly. I'm going with Petronella (Withdoll Emma) again. In the spirit of the theme I think I will mostly free style this one. I have a vague idea of where to start, but beyond that, we'll see. Here are some materials I dug out: The tie dyed fabric in the background is the remains of an old dress that I think will make a nice skirt for Petronella. I think ankle length, low waist with a fitted waist band. After that I don't know. Probably some type of crop top, or perhaps a flowy blouse. An embroidered waist coat would be fun too. So would some accessories. Perhaps a bag, a flower wreath and some beaded jewelry. We'll see how much I can get done, but I am looking forward to this, it has potential to be a fun project for sure!
Once again I'm cheering from the sidelines - My sewing room is currently stacked with the contents of my living room and hallway due to new flooring and redecoration works, and I have booked to attend events every weekend in February (two of them sewing events but nothing to do with dolls). Since weekends are my main sewing time, and I can't get to most of my sewing stuff, participation is not an option. It's a real shame as my Boho girl is still getting by with the few items of clothing I already had that suited her styling, and she could really have benefitted from me taking part in this round, Have fun everyone who is taking part - as usual, I'll enjoy seeing what everyone does. Teddy
I've been wanting to join this as I love sewing, even though I am not the greatest at it. Alice needs maternity wear for next year's storyline. Bohemian style is loose and flowy and would be really good for this. I don't really have any images of inspiration as I just want to wing her maternity dress. I'll make the pattern myself. This is Alice (Ringdoll Alice) and she is holding the material that I want to use. I also want some kind of trim, but I haven't decided on it yet. She currently wearing a bathing suit that I made her, because that's what she wore on her last photo shoot. Poor girl will be going from showing off that flat stomach in a bathing suit to maternity wear. IMG_9242 by Rabbid Bunnies, on Flickr
Can't wait to see everyone-s projects. ^^ My elbow is still hurting me and I'm very sleepy these days. @_@ So I don't think I will be able to make something again. :/
I have no idea how to sew Bohemian, haha. But I'll look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with while working on other dolly projects!
Hello, I’d like to join this round although I may not be able to finish in time. First post is my inspiration and I’d really like to make the hat and some boots as well. I’ll be sewing from scratch as always so it’s a mystery for all of us how this will turn out lol. My Dollstown Soi is the chosen one for this particular outfit.
I love these type dungarees, I have a few myself! Looking forward to seeing them made for a doll. Your doll is so pretty! The material is lovely! Love the material colors! That’s awesome hand work!
I'm going to join this round. I failed to actually sew anything last round, but my Bohemian queen Morrigan is perfect for this round. I'm going to try to make her a pants and boatneck t-shirt. I'm using patterns from RAD Doll Designs. Here's pants in progress (made from recycled capris) and the t-shirt fabric I plan to use. Pants in progress
Here’s a not so perfect photo update of my dolls dress, I skipped the lace on the front although I had cut it out, it covered up the material and I just didn’t like it. Also, I dyed the lace blue.
Thank you, I already got a lot more done, I hope I can get the sleeves right, the hardest part for me.
I had to close my postimage account because it was showing porn, can you believe that! I’m looking for a different way to post my images. UPDATE: I couldn’t figure out how to post from Flickr app but I did from my internet browser on my iPhone! So glad, this is a game changer for me in a good way.
I went crazy today sewing up the outfit. I didn't have enough material so I had to add some purple fabric instead. This short dress also had a pair of matching shorts underneath, but it's hard to get a picture of them. I wish the top part of the dress was shorter, and modified my pattern for the next time I go to use it. I wanted it to just below her bustline. But I think it came out alright. Thank you! I think I forgot how tall she was when I picked out the material. I am going to plan better next time! lol Thank you! I like putting her in blue. I blame it on my trying to stick with an 'Alice in Wonderland' theme with her.
It's looking pretty - that fabric is lovely. One of my girls is very fond of butterfies. She'll be envious. Good luck getting off the mark on this one - I've failed to get anything done for any round in forever. Pretty. I have gone through several iterations of patterns (and the resulting garments) to get the look I wanted in the past, mainly because once I' ve got as far as making something up and realizing it's not quite what I aimed for, I can't be bothered to unpick and remake it, I alter the pattern for another go at it instead because it seems like less work that way. Don't know when I'll next have a chance to check out everyone's progress. I have a week-and-a-bit off work and I'm off to Gloucester Cathedral to learn how to pattern 18th Century gowns on the body (this weekend) followed by Cutting and making up the gown (next weekend) so and will be busy with prepwork for the second workshop when I'm back home for a few days in between, so might not have much time at the computer. I'll probably be making the gown up in half-scale so one of my larger dolls can use it, but it one fit the Bohemian theme, nor be for an On-Topic doll (I'm not lugging my Lusion half way across the country on public transport to use as a fitting model!!!). Teddy
@mydaffer I love, love, love that fabric and style. It absolutely screams bohemian! @RabbidBunnies This is so cute on your girl, and a little pattern adjustment will be an easy fix for next time. I love the idea of there being shorts underneath too…what a great addition for all sorts of fun fashion adventures.
Wow, that sounds like such an exciting workshop!!! I hope you can show off the results some time - maybe a different version on an on topic doll? Sounds like an amazing project! Well, I'm just cheering from the sidelines once again this time, as I have too many other projects on the go, but I hope to have another go with a future theme!
Thank you so much, I only had a little bit of the fabric, I found this remnant at a local store. I’d share some with your doll if I had more! Thank you, I’m almost complete with the outfit, I hope I don’t disappoint. Definitely didn’t come out like I envisioned but that’s traditionally how things work for me.
Wow thank you so much! I added more too it and will post when it’s completely done. I appreciate the comment! ❤️
Thanks Good luck with that! I am also trying my hand at needle and thread. Yesterday the Dollstown elf Soph arrived ^_^ And her height - Elf Body 2013 - is extraordinary.
So.. Uhm. I've gotten a bit side tracked. A pair of mature tiny Asleep Eidolon dolls that I wasn't expecting until later this spring arrived just the other day. So, now I kind of want to get started on making things for them. I am debating on if any of the things I have planned for them could possibly fit into this theme, but it's possible they may have to be their own thing. And I don't know if I'll will have time to do both at the same time.
I think I messed up and I am going to fix it. Somehow when I made the back it brought the top up too far and I want it too hang lower so I’m going to modify it. What do you all think? Also, I have leather to make boots I just need to find an inspiration on how to make them to get that started.
Thank you I made an effort and took Soph in her new dress into the snowy forest: Soph longs for spring
I still think the creation turned out well! Just right for pretty girls And what looks closed on the upper part creates lovely long legs on the bottom. Lovely idea with the real leather boots! But please remember to bring socks - real leather tends to leave behind discolored resin.
I love it! It turned out so cute! I think the top part looks nice, but I'm guessing that you want it to go just across her bustline? I'm looking forward to seeing the boots. I can't make shoes at all.
@mydaffer Wow! What a cue outfit on your girl! She looks adorable in this, and I love the purse and hat with it…such perfectly matching styles. I know you wanted the bodice lower (more empire style) but the yoke style (think Holly Hobbie) was also a huge look in the 70s, so either certainly fits the theme of the fabric extremely well. And I managed to finish my overalls. I couldn’t resist matching them with this fun hat from my collection by a very talented artisan on Etsy. Love her hats! They give me a great excuse just to come up with outfits to go with them for my larger girls.
Thank you very much for your very sweet comment. I really appreciate the feed back. ❤️ The outfit is so adorable! That fits her so perfectly and pairs so nicely with the hat. I love the blouse underneath as well, the sleeves are my favorite style although my dolls don’t have any like that. If I knew how too sew my dolls would have loads of tops and dresses with those style sleeves. All the material looks great together. What a sweet perfect fitting overall set! ❤️
@mydaffer That set is turning out so good. The dress is truly gorgeous and the accessories just adds that little bit of extra that turns a garment into an outfit. @PoeticSoul I know I have said this about your creations before, but that outfit is just so much fun! For my own project, I had an argument with myself about finishing what I started before being allowed to start on my new dolls and managed to convince myself to finish Petronella's things first. And so I have! The skirt went together very quickly once the embroidery was finished. And I decided on a crochet top, because I wanted a bit of texture, but nothing too complicated. The wreath is a bit of vine, or leaf garland I had lying around in my doll house scaled stash. It's obviously meant to be something larger, but the leaves looks a bit like aspen leafs in 1:4 scale and I liked the more robust style greenery. Originally I was thinking of a wreath of something like daffodils or tulips, but I didn't like the disconnect between cold spring weather and the summery garments. I think this makes better sense.
This is adorable! I love the overalls! I always have such a hard time making those and yours came out fantastic! I love the pocket on the front of it! The hat does look very fun! That crochet top is amazing! You are so talented! I love her skirt, it looks so soft to the touch. She looks so pretty!
Thank you for the kind words, they really mean a lot to me! I may not finish this month but I’m trying. I have to say this is a fantastic amazing over the top bohemian outfit, it’s truly amazing and the colors are absolutely perfect! I love this so much, wow, what an inspiration to keep the sewing going! One day I surly hope I can make an outfit come together this well. Love this so much! ❤️
Thank you everyone for your kind comments. It was a fun project that allowed me to use up some of the leftover pieces of my “Anne of Green Gables” fabric collection I acquired last year for a doll’s special wardrobe. Because they could only be purchased in full yard increments, I wound up with plenty of leftovers. Now it’s a game to see how much of it I can use up. It’s a good thing I love that fabric so much! @Lillith, she looks spectacular in her new outfit! Well done indeed!I swear, how many times did I see this girl on the streets back in the day? It’s true bohemian perfection!
@RabbidBunnies @mydaffer & @PoeticSoul Thank you all for your kind words! If any one should want to try their hand at making the top, I posted a pattern here. Let me know if you try it, I am working on learning to write crochet patterns that actually makes sense to others.
I would love to try making this, once I find my small crochet hook. I seem to have misplaced it.... again.
I wasn't going to join in this round, but I found this knitting pattern (Ravelry, Etsy), and was inspired. Here's Mimi my minisup Dorothy in her top with the fabric (2 old skirts) I'm going to use for a skirt and an over layer: Here is the inspiration pic for my skirt shape: I don't have a pattern, but I'm using this YouTube video to help me wrap my head around construction. I started my skirt... and I ran out of thread! Green thread anyway, and I realized I didn't have any purple... Hopefully I'll be able to get some soon!
The special 26cm size? I recently got a Ding Dang in 26cm, she's so cute! I'm hoping to sew for her soon, but I'd like to finish her faceup first.
I finished Morrigan's outfit yesterday. Not perfect, but that's ok for this style. The necklace was a bit annoying because I couldn't find the beading needle that worked with the beading thread, so initially strung it on fishing line, only to have the knot come undone, and have to restring it on the beading thread without a needle. Morrigan in Boho
that’s really pretty, I love the color and the colors all together are going to be lovely I can tell! ❤️ I just adore your doll, she doesn’t even need a face-up. What a perfect look for her and those shoes are awesome, they are perfect for the outfit! Love the necklace, I was going to make my girl one as well but have the issues as far as the needle goes. My beads are so small and my needle is too big, I’m still digging for a smaller one. Well done! ❤️
@Vivianne That’s so pretty! I really admire those with the skills to make these sort of tops. They’re so beautiful and classics of the bohemian style. @Leo Pheonix This is such a fun outfit! That subtle fade/tie dye look on the top is wonderful. Well done!
The little ones do like to hide, don't they? If you do decide to try it, I'd love to hear how it goes. If there is anything that needs clarification, don't hesitate to ask. It's one thing to make notes for myself, but to make instructions clear enough for anyone else to follow is a different beast entirely. Oh, pretty! That's a great top. And a very interesting skirt design. That's it. Join us in the discussion thread! Looks good to me!
…And our latest round for March is now up /threads/sewing-project-science-fiction-fantasy-cosplay-round-144.886302/
I managed to make the front lower. I like it much better. I added a little tank underneath it. I did everything but the boots, my imagination is bigger then my ambition. LOL
That’s an excellent fix! It looks great and the addition of the tank is a great idea that adds extra texture and depth to your outfit. Well done indded!
I do like the top part lower! The little tank underneath really adds to it! That is such a wonderful dress, she looks lovely!
Wow thank you so much, I’m real pleased with this, I made it closed and tie in the back so I believe other dolls I have could possibly wear this, I’d still like to make a few more accessories for this, I just love the butterfly material. Thank you for the feedback. ❤️ Thank you for the lovely feedback, I can’t believe it turned out honestly, lol. I’m really loving this on her. My original idea is incorporated but not fully so for it to turn out nice, I’m impressed myself! ❤️
So cute!! Good job!! I love the fabric, it turned out so well. I'm not quite done with my outfit, I'm making accessories and have an idea for shoes that is quite ambitious for my skills as well. Lots of ideas - we'll see which get made.
Thank you so much! ❤️ Have fun finishing the outfit, I look forward to seeing it all together, even if you do like me and don’t complete it all completely!
