Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 32

Nov 9, 2017

    1. Thank you so much. Now I need to start saving.

    2. My girl came hope just before christmas but i've been taking my time getting her finished before i shared. :B
She's still missing a few small things but they're all en-route, so here she is!

Now i just need to get the rest of her clothes made and work on her profile, lol

    3. @Calicopanda
She's just stunning! I love how flexible the Mei sculpt is, it has so much elegance and changes with new looks and styles

    4. Thank you! Yes, i agree. The Ya as well. Actually, a lot of the ResinSoul sculpts have a great deal of potential. :)

    5. Hi everyone,
This is my first post and I hope this is in the right place? I have ordered the new Zhen doll as my first and am trying to see what types of clothes she would fit in. Does anyone have any advice? I'm rather new to this and not sure as someone told me she looks like a slim msd but her bust size seems larger?

      • x 1
    6. From the measurements on their site, the Zhen body is about half a centimeter larger in the bust, waist, and hip area than the Rong body. I'd assume she'd still fit into slim MSD just fine.
I know a lot of slim MSD clothes are marketed as "Minifee" sized, so in that case just be sure to check for if it fits larger bust minifees.

      • x 2
    7. Calicopanda Oh my gosh I love your Ya! She reminds me of Veronica from Riverdale. It's so cool how versatile these sculpts are. I just finished this rainbow wig for my Ya.

Bat_Thingie if you need a quick outfit for your Zhen, my girl's sweater-dress was made out of a fingerless glove! I cut the middle two fingers off for the neck, cut off the thumb and sewed up the hole, and it fits her really well. Most knit gloves are pretty stretchy so it should fit a slightly larger body just fine. Not the most glamorous outfit, but super quick and easy. Bonus, if they're the kind of gloves that have the mitten Pat that pulls down, that makes a perfect beanie.

      • x 3
    8. Thank you both so much, both of you have helped a lot!

    9. the jointed hands fit the rong body fine but are too big in the wrist for the Mei body.

    10. Thankyou! I think I'll definitely be getting the rong body then.

    11. Does anyone know if the Rong body fits Lan?

    12. I just completely redid my custom black Ju with smoke hands and feet as a Day of the Dead character. In spite of her dark coloration, this doll has adapted to so many things. I think that is the beauty of Resinsoul dolls. Here she is in her latest incarnation.:)

    13. @PoeticSoul She's beautiful! That sugar skull makeup is absolutely gorgeous. <3

    14. Thank you @sugarbeta!:) She was such a fun project. I am always amazed by the sheer adaptability of the Resinsoul sculpts. I mean, BJDs are obviously meant to be customized, but there is just something about the Resinsoul faces that I’ve found always look truly stunning no matter what crazy things you decide to do with them!;)

      • x 1
    15. @PoeticSoul I gasped out loud upon seeing your girl. She is simply gorgeous, you did beautiful with her new look, she looks so festive and cheerful. I always love seeing Day of the Dead dolls!

    16. Oh, for sure! They're so versatile. I love seeing all the interesting modding projects and faceups people come up with for them. RS's art style seems to encourage maximum creativity. Ju's face makes a great canvas for bold makeup like that, and it really pops against the black resin.

    17. feels like i haven't been on here for a while

    18. I always love An. I'm seriously thinking I might need a second one in human skin tone because my green one is SO inhuman looking and while I love him, I feel i'm missing out a bit.

but I gotta ask, where'd you get your boy's glasses?

    19. @gaiboiozz I think i've found the person. I ordered a couple of pairs to test lol. Plus I found an STL file for my dad to print <_< Dolly glasses for everyone!

    20. @gaiboiozz, ahhhh dear Joseph! I’ve been in love with this boy for so many years it seems...him and Wataru, your Wu, too of course.:) It’s always a treat to see him again in this thread. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...ah memories!

    21. random aside, has anyone ever tried to dye over resinsoul's dark tan? It's a somewhat ashen, milky brown and i'm wondering if dunking it into say a red dye might brighten it up into a more healthy brown?
Or would it be better to use a tan dye?

I've never actually dyed OVER an existing colour before, especially not a dark one.

Anyone ever tried to "colour correct" a dark skinned doll?

    22. @PoeticSoul You're so right about the adaptability of RS sculpts! I've always loved them for that, they have the potential to be whatever I want of them, there's something flexible (but still human) about their expressions and features that lends itself so nicely to all kinds of looks.

@purple_monkfish Someone suggested dying with tea! I have a pair of tan hands that are ashy and need to be colour-corrected to the warmer brown body they're for. The original owner said that strongly brewed tea can dye hands (though I don't know if that's true of all resins or it's a purely cosmetic process)

    23. I'm not sure even really strong tea would be strong enough for dark tan. Light tan maybe, it's pretty light, but the dark is a fairly chocolate milkshake kinda tone lol.

I dunno, it's a whim I have. Just to get a bit of variety. I mean I like resinsoul's dark tan but I also feel like it's not a very realistic human tan tone, it's too cold and ashy. I'm just not sure what colours would add the appropriate warmth. Orange? red? yellow?
arghhh. colour theory, it defies me!

      • x 1
    24. Resinsoul isn't very consistent with their tans. From my Iruhi I would say their dark tan is nice and warm already, but then, I have two coffee skin dolls that are very different in tone - my Ian is warm and glowy, my Feng is grey/greenish.

I would try orange to add a bit of warmth. But you never know what dye does to existing colours, so it's a risk. If you have spare parts, I'd dunk them first and try them out (like a headcap, or lower torso, or a leg bean or something like that).
(I'm full of advice, but too chicken to dye my own dolls! LOL!!)

      • x 1
    25. Heh I have two dark tans here and they 're very cool, very uh.. sort of chocolate milk toned.

The light tan is fairly warm though, like really milky coffee. I have two of those two, one really yellowed so it's quite a sallow brown and one more greyed that still is very much "milky coffee"

Hahah I know what you mean though, dying a doll is a big like.. nerve wracking thing. I have a hybrid i'm dying as soon as I order the dye but she's already a bit of a frankendoll so as long as the two parts i'm dying (head and hands) end up relatively even I can blush any differences without much problem.

My problem is i'm not good at leaving well alone. I mean a regular dark tan is FINE, it's a nice colour, i'm just being nitpicky because I can you know? but it could be an interesting experiment for sure. I mean i'm really curious what sort of tone you'd get putting an orange or a red over the top of a brown. Orange might be the better bet though, or an already orangy brown.. hmm. Red I fear might end up like a dark red colour instead of brown and yellow I think might make it a bit too sickly sallow. I dunno though. I'm not sure how rich the two browns I can obtain ARE. I need to find some pics of Idye poly and rit dyemore browns to see what I think of them because that might be less risky than using a more primary tone.

Or I could blush the whole body but that sounds massively time consuming.

I dunno, i'm at that point in my BJD collecting journey where i'm itching to do more than just do a faceup and call it done lol.

      • x 1
    26. I've never dyed a dark tan but did dye over light tan but I was specifically going for a tan so it turned out perfect for me. Resinsoul will do custom colors if you message them..I have quite a few plans for some custom colors in the future. Good luck.

Your dolls are always so amazing! I have neglected mine for a very long time..sigh..life just keeps getting in the way.

    27. Ok, I haven't been round for a long long time, but has anyone gotten one of the new Dragon girls? And is she Rong with different ears? My brain immediately said she was a Rong and I can't unsee it to really check...

      • x 1
    28. I don't get that feel, the nose on Zhen seems smaller to me and Rong just has a bit of a smirk that Zhen doesn't. I think her features are smaller like Mei's. I really love her long ears..I eventually will get her as soon as I can figure out my other characters...really hope they make a new boy body sooner than later with the new double joints.

    29. Oh I already have the head you see. Hence dying rather than ordering a custom colour.

I'm just not sure if it'll actually work. I fear red might turn it too mahogany, a sort of very dark red/brown with a distinct red tinge while yellow might make it a sickly colour.
Red is probably the safest because a dark red brown is at least pretty, while a sickly sallow brown really isnt.

Zhen's face is definitely not Rong, Rong has quite a prominant nose while Zhen has a smaller one and also a sharper chin. She's very "resinsoul" but it's a whole new face.

but I must be GOOD and not just buy dolls because "ooo new, pretty" lol. Maybe at some point i'll have a character in mind (I mean I would LIKE another green resinsoul) but for the time being I shall admire her from afar.

    30. I'm not good - I ordered her because she was new and pretty. :XD:
I don't think she's identical to Rong, but the pictures on the RS site are so bad that it's hard to compare. Her chin seems pointier than either Mei or Rong, her nose seems more like Mei than Rong...

    31. a lot of RS sculpts look related. Like siblings rather than twins lol.

      • x 1
    32. I'm currently in love with resinsoul's green resin. I've been trying to sculpt an orc lady character of mine, but that color option just makes me want to pick one of their sculpts to customize instead! It's enabling my laziness dang it.

      • x 1
    33. Yea, I'm all about all the DJ bodies they can throw at us. I'll have to give her a few more looks but yea... I'll eyeball her nose and mouth more closely.

    34. My Zhen is here. I have to put her together, but I'm actually on my lunchbreak so I don't have time to play until tonight.
I hope Sage (my RS Sui) is happy with his new friend. Sage is red, and I ordered Zhen in pink skin - no transparant resin, because Sage doesn't have any.
Resinsoul did a SUPER job on the body blush. Now I regret not getting a company face-up for Sage at the time.

Picture spam will follow in a few hours. ;)

    35. Oooh, can't wait to see pictures of your new Zhen, Fairy!

I just finally gave in and ordered a Tang in light tan with modified Jun ears. I'm super excited!

    36. Here she is, with a borrowed wig and sweater:

    37. Congrats on your girl Fairy, my purple Zhen just arrived too! She's adorable and I've admired Resinsoul's resin colours for a while. So glad to have her :D

      • x 1
    38. Aw, she's so cute Fairy! Her coloring is gorgeous, and I love that wig on her!

And oooh, purple, Scoops? Sound lovely!

    39. She's so adorable! I'm glad she made it home safely.

      • x 1
    40. I love the purple, too, but chose the pink to go with Sage, my red Sui - who got his wig stolen by one of my smaller dolls, so he's wearing an old fur thing.

I wish they'd blushed the inside of her tail, but I guess I can do that myself. Just a light brush of purple or lavender to pick out the scales...

      • x 4
    41. Wow! She’s truly gorgeous, @Fairy Milliner! It’s such a thrill to see this sculpt in owner photos:)

    42. Precious dragon children! I'm beginning to know where my next work bonus is going. How is it dressing those dragon legs? I'm assuming you have to take the feet off?

      • x 1
    43. Yes, you do have to take the feet off, but they come off easily.

I was surprised how well strung he was, too - my past experience with RS isn't that great. I actually only have one RS boy who still has his original strings, and he fell over the moment I got Sage out of the cabinet, taking six tinies with him. So I think I need to restring him to avoid that domino effect in the future. LOL!!

    44. Congrats on your new doll! I really like this sculpt, it's great to see how happy you are with her.

    45. I started a project a while ago (about a half year and some) and I finally made enough progress to feel comfortable to show him off. Still lots to do, but one can see my intend xD

    46. That's freaken amazing! Wow, and well done!

      • x 2
    47. @Girrl -^^- Thank you kindly. I‘m really happy with the progress so far myself. I didn’t expect him to be this stable. There is quite some post-processing to be done which will likely have to wait until June (and he is a heavy monster, requiring a lot of space) but any progress counts xD

I intented to make him look similar to a male Ursula (Little Mermaid‘s antagonist), but I‘ve started to change his looks into something of his own. Might change things in the future, but definitely going for purple and black on the special parts.

      • x 1
    48. Oh my, he is magnificent! I'm looking forward to seeing your progress with him!

      • x 2
    49. @vicemage Thank you! It will take a while, but once I got something to show again, there will be pics -^^-

    50. @Fairy Milliner ah your dragon pair are so adorable, I'm inspired! I've been wanting a Sui for simply ages.

@Snowy Dayum, that's an incredible octo-boy. He looks so good, I can't wait to see what more you can do with him.

    51. He's fantastic~ Are you going to make a project thread for him? :D

Now I'm wondering what it would cost to get Naga tails...

    52. @A Wee Tiefling Thank you! I want his lower bottom in black and purple, like Ursular and do a bit of black blushing on the upper body. He still needs a face-up and I need to make up my mind about his hair. Other than that... No plans, except hopefully one day having the 'bjd aquarium' for him and my mermaid and merboys and some aquatic pets.

@Bristol: Thanks ^^ I actually wasn't planning on a project thread, as other than sanding and priming there's not much left to do. I just need to make up my mind wether I'll ask the parts to be cast in a fitting purple and dye them half-black myself or if I'll just dye the parts as they are, once they are finished.

That's a good question. I hope to re-make my MSD Naga tail from back when I started in the hobby anew. This time in the 3D programm and print the parts myself again. But I currently don't have much time, so I'm assuming this to be either a project for my free days or in winter. We'll see. I still have ambitions, but I also want to try and finish my open projects (And there's quite a few of them in various states. From nearly finished to 'butt naked without even a pair of eyes to call their own') ^^°

      • x 2
    53. Oh man if you 3d print a naga tail I think a lot of us will be all grabby hands wanting one lol.

I'd love a jointed tail (like a cat tail) but I find 3d software really messes with my brain. It'd be easier for me to hand sculpt but time consuming.

      those tentacles look so cool

      • x 1
    54. @purple_monkfish I‘d be happily like to help out with that xD It’s great to see Naga slowly becoming more popular than when I joined the hobby xD

Just will take a while for me to get started on that. I still have a succubus and tiefling tail to make first.

This one has been waiting for that for quite some time to finally be finished:
[IMG]FMD wig mania by Wildcard_Snowy, auf Flickr

      • x 4
    55. tiefling taiiiil! i'd def be interested in that.

In other news, my Shi body arrived with no warning yesterday lol. So my oooold Li head finally has a body. It's a nice body, double jointed knees and elbows with joints more like Tang so they hold and don't spin like those annoying cups of the older double jointed bodies.

I'll see about getting comparison pics later if anyone wants them.

I'm kinda tired and headachy so haven't even started putting this poor doll together. As usual i'm utterly unprepared. No wig, no eyes, nothing in place. Whoops? This always happens to me haha.
But i'm gonna try to dress my uruhi first. He's finished except for clothes so i'm eyeing up ACBJD for some nice bits for him (how well do the MSD clothes from ACBJD fit the Resinsoul bodies?)

      • x 3
    56. @purple_monkfish Hey! Congrats on the surprise arrival!!!

Looks like you’ve got some work ahead of you :D

As for AC clothes. It depends strongly on what you buy. They have clothes you can order in custom size - in that case they fit the measurements you provide them with - other than that it’s a hit and miss, as they purchased from various makers. With stuff that’s size-adjustable (strings from a corset, pants with belts or a sort of rubber inlay...) you should be ok for the most part.

    57. [IMG]201811510151913 by sarah noorlander, on Flickr

I hope that this is allowed but...I made something in paint, its not the best however this is what I want when I buy the zhen sculpt,
she's going to be my raven girl.
I want the black parts to be transparent resin.

      • x 4
    58. I was hoping someone would make her with a darker color scheme! She looks great already! :D
