MYou 45cm - part II

She falls so daintily! I‘m glad it‘s not that I’m doing things wrong, I was beginning to think I was expecting too much getting her to stand. But it‘s unfortunate that this is such a common problem.

 

Thanks for the tips! I'll experiment over the next few months when I have the time and energy and see if anything will help. Even if it's bad engineering, I'll just have to engineer a solution! Lol

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I'll still try what I can because I love these girls and it'd be nice to use them upright more often, but if sueding, wiring and getting a stand is my best solution, so be it.

I had a feeling! I'll experiment with a bunch of things and if I see any improvement I'll make a note of it here. It DOES seem like the biggest offenders are the ball joints at their hips, and I do think it's just a flaw in their design sadly.

I feel that lol! I've been doing photoshoots lately with my girls and it's been a nightmare anytime I want to get them to stand. Even when they're sitting down, if there isn't a back support, I don't know if they'll collapse. But I'm going to mess around over the next few months and I'll report what works best for me! These girls are gorgeous and I don't think I'll ever get rid of them, but I'm not above taking them apart several times to try to get them to function better. If everything fails, I'm not above posing them sitting and using a stand for the rest of their days lol

 

I would say: put all your strength into it! My Ailsa on the V2 new body stands quite well. The problem is she is so tightly strung I can't even lift the S-hook up to remove her head. This never happened to me before!

 

That does sound like a pretty big problem! My girls seem pretty loose, there's a decent amount of slack to them and I can lift their hooks easily, so I'll tighten them up once I can get my hands on some good elastic.

 

I definitely think Myou strings their dolls too tight on top of their v2 bodies not having great engineering in their thigh/leg joints. So far I've had to include A LOT of maintenance work to get my Viola (my Delia) to stand "decent" on her new v2-new body. I've added leather suede to her hip sockets, wired her legs, re-strung her with thicker 3.5 mm elastic and it STILL feels like I'm doing something wrong bc she refuses to keep her sitting pose and her legs straight .

In stark contrast my Michelle on the v1 body only has leather suede added in the same place, and she poses just fine now. I'm suspecting the problem might be the thigh socket on the v2 body itself; the resin is just far too smooth to get any grip on the ball joint so it keeps slipping and won't hold the legs in place. I'm planning on adding some sueding there to see if that helps and will report back if it might be useful. Otherwise I have no idea of what else to improve, which is a shame bc I do love my Viola n have spoiled her so much since I got her. My girl deserves the best, dangit!

 

100% agree that the hip joint is at fault. I really hope they come out with a better-designed body one day. I do still love my girls and they sit well enough on the shelf, but they're very frustrating to deal with for photoshoots I'd love to hear how that sueding goes! I'll be looking into doing it myself eventually.

 

Hmm, I have two ver. 2 new bodies, and I found leather sueding and restringing sufficient to get them to behave. I think the strings need to be relatively tight in addition to the sueding. But the ver. 1 body is clearly way better at posing.

The Ver. 2 body could use some nubs or something on the thigh socket though, it really is way too smooth.

 

It's good to hear sueding and restringing worked for you! There really is no friction in the hip joint and that's the bulk of the issue. I've heard that the v1 body is better all around, so that's what I ordered for my next dolls from their latest event. Nubs would have helped, but I hope they one day come out with a body that has better leg mechanics in general.

 

A ver. 2 body with the hip joint of ver. 1 would be ideal. Wouldn't look worse either. But well...
I ordered a Dietrich on the Ver. 3 body. Hopefully my usual approach will work for her as well. I will then have bodies from all three types

 

I bought a secondhand ver. 3 body recently for one of my dolls, so I'll have all of them eventually too I really like the aesthetics of ver. 2 and ver. 3, but the legs make them so frustrating...

 

My main gripe with the ver. 2 bodies is that they can't really raise their legs very high, even if they're made to behave with sueding etc. so poses like this aren't quite possible:

That being said, I still really like all of my Myou Doll girls, it's why I keep getting more Dietrich will be my fifth, which is more than I own from any company. My first doll of the year was actually a Michelle SP, and I really like her!

I first actually read it as "body" and got excited that they might be making 1/4 version of the new 1/3 body which to me looks like the 1/4 version 2 body but with the body v1 hip joints. I hope that will be made eventually too since I'm also team "damn I hate that stupid slippery ball there so much"

 

I really like my myou michelle's body, but I hate her knees! They are very unstable. I'm waiting for a Delia in coffee color now.

I have a Dietrich on body 2 and I want to make her some pants to go with the shirt I’m sewing. I’m not quite sure where to start looking for patterns. Does anyone know what other doll’s pants would fit? Her hips are way too wide for almost all MSD/MNF stuff I’ve seen (21cm, also 12.5cm thighs). She could probably fit stuff for larger scale dolls if I shorten the legs I suppose

 

@downturningeyes How about patterns for Iplehouse JID girls? Their measurements are slightly larger than those you need, but not much and it may be easier to adapt a pattern down rather than up. And JID dolls are quite popular so it shouldn't be too impossible to find patterns for them,
Sorry if that is not much help, I usually make my own patterns, so I don't know much about what is out there.

I keep thinking that I want to buy Diedrich on a boy body in coffee skin but I keep looking at her nose jumping between "it's fine" and "I hate it" depending on the image and their angle so I keep hesitating. Could anyone share pictures of their Diedrich from the most unflattering angles you can think of? (Not exactly a question I ever thought I'd ask. ) I find that all images of Zuzana for example make it look like she has a cute tiny nose but in reality I don't find her nose cute at all.

I also kind of feel like taking a gamble on Lris and just getting him and Diedrich head as the extra, that way if I don't like one I can simply sell the other one off.

Wow, wow, wow! I received my dolls today and I’m in love. They are so sturdy, and feel so good in my hands! The coffee skin colors is just absolutely beautiful in person. Even blank with no face-up, they are so beautiful.

I can’t wait to sew them some clothes. I have both the small and large chest so that’ll be fun to experiment with in terms of clothes.

Q: what size eyes do you all like for your dolls?

 

I usually use the size MYOU indicates - 1/4 and the bigger 1/6 call for 14mm eyes. Personally, I use the 14mm with a 7mm iris.

what pretty sculpts I want to own a gigantic house just to have alll the MYOU sculpts, I love them! Even with their eyes hollowed out XD

 

Myou released a new body, this seems to be 1/4 version of the earlier 1/3 body so in other words body 2 with better top of the legs joints, there's comparison picture with this body and body 2 on their Weibo too. I think the model is a new girl too so I suppose she'll be released soon too?

Edited to add: Actually looking at the comparison picture, it seems it also has different knees and the elbow joint + it's slightly taller than body 2 so it is a different new body rather than third version of body 2.

 

I hope that doesn't mean they will discontinue the single jointed version of body 2, I assume body 1 will be discontinued though.

 

Let's hope not, v1 is my favourite MSD body by them. I ordered Doudou on that - if they discontinue it, I was just in time for it!!!

 

In a weird way it kinda reminds me of Xagadoll's / AE's bodies with the split elbows and hidden knee joints. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of that, but then again I have zero idea how that type of arm poses compared to others.

It also looks like Myou's following the wide shoulders trend I've been seeing all over the doll sphere lately. Can't say I'm a big fan of that either, ngl. The bodies do look beautiful, though. Now if only I can personally frankenstein those hip joints onto my current v2-new, then my girl would be perfect xD

I'm personally gonna pass on this one when it drops. I might wait for someone else to buy it so i know what i'm getting myself into. But also I don't think my wallet or my heart can take giving my Delia a THIRD body, and go thru the cons and not love it as much all over again;;

 

Huh good catch on the shoulders, I didn't even notice but they really are wider:
New body: 9.36
v2-2 body: 8.5
So that's almost a full cm. Her waist is slightly thinner and hips wider too, so there are more differences than I first noticed.

I actually like the slightly wider shoulders on the new body, it's not as bad as, say the Luts' kdf45 muse body with it's 10.9cm shoulders which looks just ridiculous. But a bit over 9cm is fine by me, checking the girls I currently have it seems most of them have 8.# - 9.#cm shoulders so I guess it's just something I've gotten used to. I have exactly one girl with 7cm shoulders and she looks so bobbleheaded due that to me.

 

@digi 10.9cm?? dang luts, when you go wide you go WIDE xD But that's fair. My only experience of a doll with 9cm+ shoulders is my recent gem of doll girl. I think i'm just not used to it compared to my 2 myou girls, both of whom are in the 8.5ish range. So it's definitely a new re-adjustment for me, haha.

Despite my own gripes though, I do appreciate Myou deciding to upgrade their 1/4's. It's about dang time they improved some of the engineering, especially for those hip ball joints!

 

I'm still pretty much a newbie but I hope they do not retire the older bodies yet - as flawed as they are, nothing I have/can decently sew will get past those hips XD

 

Oh I really love the new body! I’ve been hoping to see more BJDs with the hidden knee joints after discovering how awesome they are on my off-topic Obitsu 22/24/26 bodies. I also always felt like the Michelle I used to have had shoulders that were a little bit too narrow, so I think the wider shoulders look great!

 

Hopefully not! I can definitely vouch for the posability of the v1. It's really solid and it seems to be a fair amount of ppl's favorites. I too like it for the lack of wide hips, it makes pants fit a whole lot easier xD

 

I'm looking into getting a Michelle in tan and I was wondering if anyone knew how well it holds up! Has anyone had experience with theirs going green?

 

I have a Myou doll in coffee colour. I got her in January 2022 and she doesn't look green at all, I'm happy with the colour. Coffee is a very light tan though, I don't know if darker shades fare this well.

 

I have both coffee and tan myoudolls. As far as I can tell, the colour hasn't moved at all, even though both dolls have been outside. The tan is a nice, warm brown, I personally find it very nice.

 

does anyone own a myou doll or body in either normal or pink they could post a comparisons of fairylands BW? I'm trying to gage the undertones

is their white quite yellow? I'm trying to figure out if I might've received the wrong colour or if its just more on the yellow side

I have one Myou doll in coffee but none in tan. But I can take a picture with it compared to Luts' Brown skin or Gem of Doll tan for comparison if that helps?

What color is the head? I'm waiting for "Soom tan/tawny" head myself to hopefully arrive within this year or early next year so I'm also trying to find a good match for it.

Its kinda a niche thing actually as far as colour goes that I'm trying to match I got two imda heads a while ago when they released their lil vampire limited sculpts and one of them is in their tawny skin colour! I'm not a super big fan in they body's proportions

 

Okay here you go:

In order, Luts brown, Myou coffee and Gem of Doll tan. To my eye Luts and Myou look almost the same color, but in camera Luts shows up a lot more green toned as can be seen in the picture. And Gem is much darker and redder than those two. Worth noting that both my Myou and Luts boy are couple years old already while Gem is from this year so she's much newer than the other two.

Hi guys! Is the myou 1/4 boy body ver 2 single jointed? It looks so nice for a head I have but I want him to be double jointed. I saw some people said the ver 2 is also double jointed now, is that true?

 

@maple.honey - all myou boy bodies are double jointed. It's just the v2 girl body that has both a single and a double jointed version.

Ah, unfortunately the hips are just balls on v2, only the v1 boy body can hug it's knees to some extent I believe.

Have they changed their colors? The white was white but their normal skin was too yellow for my taste.

 

I second nancy_schroeder_ca's question - when did they change their colors? My Ben is WHITE! That's a shame - I really like the porcelain white dolls. Though I like the creamy white too.

 

I am wondering if someone is mistaking normal for white. The normal is pale but definitely on the yellow side.
