Knitting Knitting Socks or Leggings

Mar 14, 2017

    1. I love knitting, but I can't do much more than a basic scarf, and I think that making clothes for my dolls would be a great way to extend my reach in both hobbies. I was wondering if anyone has any good patterns for doll socks or leggings, or links to somewhere that does?
As of right now, I only have MH dolls that I do sewing, faceups, and mods for (still saving for my first BJD :eusa_pray) so smaller is definitely better, but anything would be much appreciated!

    2. Are you a member of Ravelry.com? You can find patterns there for all sorts of dolls on there. I think there are a few sock patterns.

    4. You'll probably want to teach yourself to knit in the round. I tried knitting off and on over the years, and I didn't really get it to stick until a friend basically forced wool and wooden needles into my hands with a pattern for knitting fingerless mitts in the round. I failed art in 3rd grade due to my inability to crochet, LOL, so if I can do it, ANYONE can. ^_^ I now LOVE to knit (and crochet) and have knit some tiny socks for my J-Doll, who should have about the same foot proportions as your MH dolls. My advice is to start with WOODEN needles when you're learning to knit in the round because they're not as slippery and the yarn is much less likely to slip off. You can get amazing deals on Amazon and AliExpress for needles - like $8 for 11 sets(5 in each of those sets) of different sizes.

I didn't do a traditional sock for my J-Doll, instead I made tube socks. I was even able to find the pattern I made up! Here it is:

I used fingering weight yarn, and size 1 dpns

      CO 12

Rows 1-10: *K1, P1* repeat to end of round
      Row 11 - 24: Knit each round
      Row 25: (K3, K2tog) twice, K2
      Row 26: (K2, K2tog) twice, K2
      Row 27: K this round
28: Place first 4 stitches on front needle, 2nd 4 on back needle (you can ditch the other needles now) and join with Kitchener stitch (YouTube has great tutes for this)
      Weave in the ends.

      DONE!

For leggings you could just make them longer and bind off instead of closing at the end. You can play around with doing all ribbing (to help them be stretchy and hold on) or just plain stockinette for a slouchier legging.

This might work for PukiFees as is. For larger BJDs, I'd cast on more like 15-20, or change the yarn or needle size depending on how you want them to look. Bigger yarn/needles for a chunkier look, or same yarn/needles with more stitches for a finer, dressier sock.
