These socks will fit a 60 cm ball jointed doll. I sized them for a female Soom body, and they’re a touch loose on her, so they will definitely fit a slightly larger doll as well. These socks are super easy, so even if you’ve never knitted socks before, this is a great introduction to get you used to the construction and shaping without committing to a larger project. This is my first time writing a pattern, so if you find any errors or have any questions, please let me know. Supplies: Fingering weight yarn—I used Claudia Handpaint sock yarn in strawberry latte. 2.75 mm needles (size 2 US)—I used a set of five, but for many parts it’s easier to work with a set of four. I’ve given directions for both. Directions for a set of four are found in brackets. Mostly, these are just changes to the number of the needle you’re increasing on. Cast on using Magic or Figure Eight cast on (they’re the same thing). Cast on 4 stitches on each of your two needles. Row 1: knit Row 2: Increase into the first and last stitch on each needle Row 3: Knit the entire row. As you are doing this, either divide the stitches equally over four needles, only divide the stitches on the first needle. (If you’re using a set off five and have trouble keeping track of where needle 1 is, then hold your knitting so that you just see the flat of the toe. Reach around and bring your cast on tail around so that it hangs between needles 1 and 4. Do not knit with it, but just leave it hanging there loosely to remind you where the start of each new round is.) Row 4: Increase the first stitch on needles 1 and 3, and the last stitch on needles 2 and 4. [If your are using three needles, then increase the first stitch on needle 1, the last stitch on needle 2, and the first and last stitch on needle 3.] Row 5: knit Row 6: Same as row 4 Row 7: Same as row 5 Rows 8-18: on needles 1 and 2, use a knit one/purl one rib (k1, p1). On needles 3 / 4, knit. Rows 19-22: Continue the rib pattern on needles 1 and 2. Increase in the first stitch of needle 3 and in the second to last stitch of needle 4. [Increase in the first stitch and second to last stitch of needle 3.] Row 23: Follow the rib pattern for needles 1 and 2, knit all stitches on needles 3 and 4. Heel 1. Turn work (you should be looking at the purl/inside of the sock). Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the second to last stitch. 2. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the second to last stitch. 3. Turn work. Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the third to last stitch. 4. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the third to last stitch. 5. Turn work. Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the fourth to last stitch. 6. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the fourth to last stitch. 7. Turn work. Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the fifth to last stitch. Purl two together. 8. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the fifth to last stitch. Knit two together. 9. Turn work. Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the fourth to last stitch. Purl two together. 10. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the fourth to last stitch. Knit two together. 11. Turn work. Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the third to last stitch. Purl two together. 12. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the third to last stitch. Knit two together. 13. Turn work. Purl across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the second to last stitch. Purl two together. 14. Turn work. Knit across needles 3 and 4 until you reach the second to last stitch. Knit two together. Leg At this point, you should have knit all of the stitches on your last needles, and be ready to start a new round. Follow the rib pattern for needles 1 and 2, continuing that rib all the way around on needles 3 and 4. Follow this ribbing pattern until your socks are as long as you want them. For my Soom body, the legs are extremely slender, so the 20 stitch diameter for the leg was too much. At row 13 of the leg, I knit 2 together, followed by purling 2 together at the center back of the leg, before continuing for another four rows and then casting off. ---------- Questions? sophiarowan, what's your guage if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to knit these up, but will be adjusting for 1/4 doll and lighter-than-fingering yarn, so even an approximate gauge would be great, thanks.
Eep, I forgot to measure. I'd say about 9-10 stitches per inch, but again, I'm a loose knitter and I don't have the socks in front of me. I'll double check when I get home. Sorry about that!
Okay, I measured, and it is about 7-7.5 stitches to the inch (stockinette. I measured the sole of the foot).
