@Krunner35 No, Joydoll largely does resin heads, but recently she created two soft bodies originally for herself, but as other people showed interest she decided to put the bodies up for order.

An update on Joydoll and the progress of the soft cotton body. This news has been shared on Weibo and Xiaohongshu/XHS (aka Rednote, Little Red Book) without any English translation.

Shipment of the cotton body and resin hand/foot parts preorders will be delayed and likely go into next year. The reason is, Joy was hospitalized in late September with what seemed like a life-threatening illness. She's now out of danger and recovering in hospital, but she'll be out of action for some time. A family member has now stepped up to take care of these preorders and fulfil them, which is going to be a slow process.

If you ordered through a dealer, they should keep you updated on ETAs and refunds. If you ordered direct through Taobao and haven't paid balance yet (this preorder uses the deposit/balance payment method), you can enquire customer service on Joydoll's Taobao store. You can get a refund, but it might take time to process. There's more information on payments and refunds in the Weibo posts.

So far, this update is just for the cotton body and the option hand/foot parts preorders. No word yet about the second Lai head preorder that happened in August.

Such worrying news ... Joydoll posted quite regularly on CN social media, and the silence after her hospitalization felt so ominous. I'm relieved that she's in stable condition and hopeful that she'll recover.

@Ho.taru Glad to help - I'm waiting for the resin option parts myself, so I'm keeping an eye on shipping updates. Everything would've been shipped by now if Joy hadn't been hospitalized There have been updates on Joydoll's Weibo -- the cotton body materials and resin parts have all been produced and are currently being packed. It looks like they're making progress, so I'm guessing the ETA will be next year, hopefully before Chinese new year (February).

i don't mind a delay tbh, it's normal if she was sick and in hospital. i hope she takes care of herself and gets her health back soon
i just wish the communication was better ^^' i saw nothing about this on IG and i received no info from my dealer...
a little more communication would prevent so much drama/stress in this hobby

 

@aihre Thanks so much for the heads up. I just directed my sis to this. She joined the Lai pre-order in summer and I don't know when or where she would have been informed of this if it weren't for you. I think lots of people around here do not or cannot regularly browse Weibo, for obvious reasons. I hope Joy will be alright.

Update on Joydoll...

The Cotton body preorder is starting to ship out. My order (resin option parts only, placed through Joydoll's Taobao store) has just landed at my proxy's warehouse. If you placed your order with a dealer, I expect you'll hear news of it soon.

I haven't seen any news yet about Lai's second preorder. I suspect they are focusing getting the cotton body squared away, before dealing with Lai.

As a solo indie artist, Joy used to handle all her BJD orders herself, but now they're being fulfilled by her relatives, who aren't familiar with BJDs so they've had to learn everything on the fly. Joy herself is still in hospital. I gather that she's recovering, but whatever ailment she has seems to be serious enough to put her out of action. Joy is well-known in the Chinese community and there's been a lot of community support for Joy's relatives. I understand that Metisdoll (another indie BJD sculptor) has been advising them, and a university classmate has stepped up to design the cotton body's CoA (something that Joy would usually do herself).

All this news came from Joydoll's Weibo. Joydoll's Instagram hasn't been updated, presumably because her relatives don't speak English and/or don't have access to Instagram. I'll try to keep you updated, especially Lai's second preorder.

 

I guess I spoke too soon - there's news about Lai's second preorder on Weibo. The head sculpt has been produced already and is in post-production (printing CoA, ordering the packing materials). Joy's relatives are planning to ship Lai in mid-January 2026, so if anyone ordered from Taobao and has a balance payment to make, do pay it soon! If you ordered through a dealer, check in with them about remaining payments, etc.

Yes, thank you so much for updating. I don't have anything on order, but Joy is one of my favorite artists and I have 4 of her dolls. So sad to hear she was near death!! And having a long recovery from such serious issues. I hope it will be complete and without further complications. But I'm glad it sounds like she has a lot of support both from family and her community of artists.

 

Has anyone had any updates on Joy's recovery? I'm really hoping shes doing better.

I've seen updates on people getting their cloth bodies. I also wanted to mention my own Lai Head has shipped~ I ordered through New Clover Singing. Good luck to everyone waiting!

 

Lai has arrived a few days ago to our doll house as well! So beautiful. And so great that people are helping out to keep Joy Doll going while she recovers.

And I agree. I'm so glad she got help so that she could stress less on this and worry about her health. Personally, I was honestly willing to wait a long while because I understand recovery can be taxing. But this way, she doesn't have that looming over her~

 

Finally, some news on Joy's health, in her own words - Instagram and Weibo (they say basically the same thing)

Wishing her a strong recovery! It's encouraging to see all the family and community support around her and getting the cotton body and Lai sent out.

I recently received the option hands and tried them on Oshidori, who's hybrided to 2DDoll 68cm girl. Everything fits marvellously, I'm glad my Joydoll girl can have Joydoll hands too.

I saw in passing that Joy was sick but I did not know the situation was this severe. I'm very sorry to hear about her health. I hope she makes a complete recovery.

 

@aihre - Those hands do look very nice! Would you say they're well-proportioned for the Lai head? And thanks for continuing to post updates here about the situation with Joy Doll. If it wasn't for you, I doubt I'd have heard anything about it!

 

@Sianserais Yes, the hands are proportioned for Lai's face. Joydoll shows them (including the single-jointed hands) in use with Lai and the 69cm cotton body here and here. Compared to 2D68 girl's hands they're a tiny bit small, but 2D68 girl has huge hands anyway.
