I like both as well as other animal ear. They can always be covered with hair but when I want them to show they make the doll extra unique
I love elf ears of all forms! It would entirely be dependent on what I want out of the doll as a whole. Since I am new to the hobby I can't speak from personal experience, but I have a feeling the face comes first, ears and other features would come secondary. If I felt the character I was going for would suit elf ears, or if i saw a sculpt with elf ears that I absolutely adored (and was inspired by), I would go for it. Elves are wonderful, and would definitely love to have an elf doll someday. As for ear preference, I don't think I have a preference one way or another. If I felt it suited what I wanted, it wouldn't matter, unless they looked really goofy looking on the sculpt. I guess now that I think about it, so long as the ears aren't too "big" , they would be fine, with elf ears, i feel the ones that are long, thin, and elegant would be preferable if going for long ears. I'd probably associate shorter ears with a point to being more like half elf ears.
I love elfe ears for (very) little dolls, and human ears for taller dolls. EDIT : sorr, I haven't seen there was a 10th page !
When I started in the hobby I really loved very small elf ears- like half elves now I prefer human ears.. but I think think the half elves are cute!!!
Elf or other fantasy ears look great, but my own collection has always been human eared just because of personal preferences.
By accident I have mostly elf or long eared dolls. My Soom Sov probably wins out with the longest ear to head size ratio and is probably the only one I honestly worry about the ears getting broken since she has a tendency to fall easy. My Soom Galena has the smallest points on her ears, but it's just enough little accent. My only doll I actively sought out to have elf ears is my Iplehouse Grace elf, who probably has the shortest ears of the Grace/Aurora/Vera trio, but (if I ignore that the face is what got me the most) the angle of the ears and detail of the ears stood out to me the most.
I just don't really feel the elf ears like so many seem to. If a doll with a face I like happens to have them, I'll take them, but the high elf aesthetic isn't one I'm interested in so much as a more playful fantasy vibe. If I had to choose a subtype of elf ears though, I'd say a little wide and short! Those are pretty cute imo.
In general, I prefer human ears, but that's mostly because the characters I have in mind are all ordinary, human people for the most part. I personally like smaller, rounder ears, but I think it depends on the overall balance of the sculpt in the end. I think if I had ideas for fantasy characters, I'd definitely like elf ears as well, though (I do want a vampire one day, so maybe that's not fully outside of the scope of possibility... hmm).
I think elf ears are absolutely adorable, but I don't seek them out. What bothers me is when strictly human ears are freakishly huge or unnaturally quirky - Switch sculpts with their giant lobes and Dollmore Zaolls with their bizarre size stick out to me in this department.
I hadn't really paid any real attention to the ears of my dolls at all until recently, actually. However, I just purchased a Luts tiny delf with elf ears and now I'm having to resist putting epoxy on all of my dolls to make them elves. Those pointy little ears are just so pretty and delicate! I have a feeling for the foreseeable future I'm going to find myself in the elf-ear camp.
I like having options; I wish all heads had interchangeable ear parts. These work great for converting SD-sized human ears into elf ears: AC-PB-6000 Parabox Obitsu 60cm Body Gretel Anime Head Pixy Elf Ear
I prefer human ears. I just don't have a lot of elf characters. I like adding animal ears to my dolls as far as fantasy ears goes.
I originally only bought human eared dolls but once I saw how gorgeous some face-up artists can make elfin dolls, I was tempted enough to get the elf version of my minifee Sircca. I also have two other elves on their way to the family and I personally can't wait to see them. But for now, most of my dolls are human eared since they tend to be cheaper and easier to get ahold of.
I really wasn’t a fan of elf ears to begin with, and I still wouldn’t choose a head with highly exaggerated ears, but subtle points are starting to grow on me because they seem near inseparable from vampire sculpts. I prefer human ears if possible.
There was a time in my life when I probably would have wanted an all elf-eared collection, I really do enjoy their otherworldliness. But I've got a lot more human characters nowadays, so I usually don't go looking for them. My one elf sculpt (RS Ju) has some pretty extreme ears, and I did find it a challenge constructing a wig to fit properly around them and look natural. Managed it in the end though, and now I'm very happy with her.
Most of the time the ears do not 'make or break' a doll for me. I can be interested in all shapes of ears as long as I like the doll. I do love elf ears even though I currently do not own any dolls with elf ears. I honestly cannot say whether I have a preference of length of elf ears either. The long ears look AWESOME when poking out through the hair, but the benefits of smaller elf ears is that they are more modest and usually do not create 'wig issues'. There is also a doll profile of a bat that recently went up and I adore her ears too! Basically, I think all ears are awesome but I cannot wait to own my first doll with elf ears!
Depends on the character. Some ears are way too big and would have to be modified. I do have 3 dolls with elf ears and 6 with human ears.
Ears won't make or break a doll for me but I love elf ears and I'd rather have them then not. I've actually had ears modded onto one of my dolls!
I'm not a huge fan of extreme elf ears (EEE?) on most dolls. It's adorable on some, though! For whatever reason, I'm more inclined to admire dolls with horns than elf ears.
I like either, as long as the "elf" ear isn't extremely elongated. Although, when I think of elf ears, I think of Link from Legend of Zelda
I think elf ears are super cute! I still tend to lean towards regular ears, though, just from my own preferences.
I'm generally not a huge fan of fantasy characters, so I prefer regular ears, though I do admit elf ears can look pretty cute in some cases.
I’m definitely a fan of elf ears, mainly because most of the characters I created are elves. That said, I did buy a doll from Onlu Doll last year that didn’t have elf ears because she looked so much like a character of mine. Planning to modify her ears once I figure out how to.
I really want to get a doll with elf ears, especially if they're very long, but I'd have to be super careful because I know they'd probably break. I have a character from an MMO that I would love to shell into a doll and he is an elf.
I like Elf ears as I love pixies and fairies. I also like the cat ears but got to fit nicely with the doll
I don't really pay attention to ears, so I think both normal and elf ears are fine with me. I think if I had a doll with elf ears, then I would add piercings or something special to them because if they stand out, they would look great with some additional accessories in my opinion!
Oh definitely, ears are certainly a factor for me. My Soom Wolf the Knight has the most beautiful ears I've ever seen - that's part of the reason why I chose him! And "surprise second" stole my heart with their little cat/fox ears (Soom Ace & Grey). It's one of the factors that make dolls truly special to me. I guess I'm just drawn to the fantasy element.
I don't have a *general* preference of human ears over elf ears, or vice versa - but, I do wish more companies offered dolls with detachable ears, or the option to choose either human or elf ears. When it comes to variations in human ears, I say embrace the unusual in every form, even if every form isn't always seen as conventionally attractive...so many sculpts look almost exactly the same, and I appreciate that some companies want to try new things...my only real pet peeve is when a realistic sculpt has ears that lack the same attention to detail that the artist put in the face and body.
It really depends on what I want their character to be. I love cute elf ears, short and long, but I don't want to base a purchase off of that alone. As far as human ears go, more cartoony ones don't bother me unless its for a character where the ears might show.
I didn't start collecting thinking that I would like elf ears, but now I am utterly charmed by them. I just got Nolan from DreamHigh Studios because he has HUGE ears that do not hide behind hair. He's a fun one.
It depends on the character, but both are cute! Though I only own dolls with human ears atm, I hope I can get some with elf ears soon!
I love elf ears so much! I think they're so great. If a sculpt is nice enough, I can live without them, though.
After having a doll with elf ears........ human ALLLLLL the way. Elf ears feel so fragile to me and I felt like wigs didn’t sit right. And most importantly cute hats that make a wig sit so nicely we’re not possible
I really love my boy's elf ears (though they're technically vampire ears) I think they're really cute in the pointed human style. I had a friend who was a big Star Trek fan who was always trying to get me to cosplay him as Spock and I am mighty tempted!
I feel the same way I would also add piercings. Although I like to add piercings to most of my dolls anyway. Otherwise I also do not pay too much attention to the ears.
I love the look of Elf ears, but I don't trust my [clumsy] self to keep them safe Lol I fear they may get chipped or damaged in some way. For regular human reals I really like the bigger more rounded shape that stick out from the head. =^_^= For animal/fantasy type ears I definitely prefer that cat ear shape, especially removable ones.
The ears of mine are usually covered by their hair so it never really matters to me. But I don't have any fantasy characters in mind, even though I think they're cute, so I pretty much always avoid the super tall and pointy ears.
I have 2 dolls with pointy ears, SOOM Sard and IMPL Baby Kitty Aimee...but as others have noted, unless you take special interest in showing them, most wigs hide these delightfully pointy protuberances unless they are really decently large. I think there is a lot of potential in handmade wigs, especially some hard cap wigs, to have some different hairstyles that highlight pointy ears, the shorter styles, clever parting with less dense side locks, shaved sides, ponytails, Mohawks, faux hawks, various braids etc but sadly, most mass market doll wigs that aren’t updos, (even the straight styles) often just cover them. My fave elf eared doll is Sard and I really like him in this long-sold-out styling. the SOOM emporium I'm debating giving my own Sard one shaved, flocked or more probably ’smoothed’ side with a braided detail on a half-faux hawk, just to feature one of his ears because they are so interesting to me but I really don't like the poor guy any more bald or short-haired than that! He also needs his wild and wooly locks! My kitty doll has a back story based on her slow metamorphosis into a cat so I will be making her a wee swanky turban so she can both show her own pointed djinn ears and disguise the fact (for a time) that she has sprouted actual cat ears on top. I think it's good to write a plot mechanism into a storyline of an elf-eared doll that is designed to show off their amazing ears in a photo story or two.
Elf ears!!! Almost all my designs have pointy ears just cuz I love them so much. I'm so tempted to get some of my dolls modded to have them even
Is human all the time for me. I don't have any fantasy-themed human-like dolls (only a couple of animal anthros) so all my other dolls have human ears. It's not like I dislike them, but I don't find them appealing either and I don't have any elf character in mind who could use them.
I love both! I have both human and elf ears, and I must say I love the elf ears so much, they're so cute! I might add piercings too, to show off the ears a bit.
I love elf ears, I always prefer them if possible, but only two of my dolls have them. And I'm most likely going to be sanding them off my pukipuki.
I really prefer humans but that’s because my characters are all human. I just don’t have any high fantasy in my imagination!
I prefer human ear over elf ears. However I have a lovely vampire and she has elf ears and I love how cute they are.
I have a lot of OCs with pointy ears so I really love sculpts with elf ears. Currently, both my resin dolls have elf ears and both my vinyl dolls (as well as my floating heads) have human ears. it's kind of a funny divide
I prefer elf ears, but mine bjds mostly in fantasy style. It's rare if I taking human ears, only if no other option.
I really love and prefer elf eared dolls most of the time, but it depends on the sculpt. Sometimes elf ears just don't fit 100% with the face in my opinion. Other times I want to get both versions.
Most of my characters aren't meant to be human/normal humans, so I tend to default to pointed ears as a sign the character is otherwordly. I have a few sculpts with human ears, some of them are going to have their ears modified anyway.
definitely human ears, I just don't like the elf ears at all, at absolute most I would take a tiny bit of a point on the ear and that's only if I adore the sculpt so much. I just can't stand elf ears, but no offense to anyone who loves them! I just like my humans boys
