When deciding on favorite dolls, does the appearance/size of the ears play a big part for you? I can't decide between say, long pointed elf ears, or natural-looking human ears with a point. Both are good, right? Which do you prefer? What about human ears which are more cartoonish, rounded and stick out, versus realistic, flatter, detailed ears? Which do you like most? The larger ears might work better with different wig styles, and with piercings, but I'm not sure which I prefer over-all. What about you?
The face is most important to me, and the faces I fancy are either not made with elf ears, or the elf ears were limited, so I cannot buy them. Luckily, if I want elf ears, I can sand away a good bit of the ear, and then apoxie it to shape. A simple paint, and you're done!
I love long elf ears even though I worry about breaking them. I'm more interested in a doll if it has them.
I love elf ears... but-- wigs cover them most of the time. also-- long ones are fragile and easy to break. I'd still get them for certain characters, but you do have to be careful with them! And most of the time you can't tell which of my dolls have the smaller pointy ears or not...!
I'm a bit of a sucker for ears! That's one of the first things I notice. I like the long pointy ears, but like stated above most wigs do cover the ears. My favorite is when the pointy tips stick out from behind the wig
Elf ears- I quite like them! Yet, at the same time, it's like they aren't really there, with wigs covering them. Does it inhibit the doll's ability to wear hoods? That could be a drawback. Still doesn't make me like them less though.
For the most part, I prefer human ears, but it really depends on the character, as some of them have pointed ears and so a resin avatar with pointed ears is preferable.
I love the look of elf ears but I really think it depends on the character you're going for! I always enjoyed more fantasy-looking bjds so that's my personal preference but as someone said earlier, not only will they probably be covered by a wig but they may even break
I like elf ears but...it's the face that matters to me the most. I'm actually looking for an MSD boy with elf ears but it's hard to find one with the aesthetic I prefer, but I'll keep looking. I want to have one with elf ears.
I absolutely love elf ears! I have a couple dolls that have shorter pointed ears, but most are medium to long. It depends on the character, but most times I prefer longer ears so I can see them
If I'm not looking for a specific thing and elf ears vs human ears are on the table, I'd be pretty tempted by those elf ears. It's not something I go out of my way for, but I think fantasy ears really add to some sculpts like my Chrom. I don't much care for really long ears, as people have said before me they can easily snap off, but just your standard pointy goodness is up my alley for sure.
I prefer human ears, probably because I'm not all that interested in fantasy characters. But small points don't bother me since they're easily covered by wigs and beanies.
I'm quite indifferent to ear shape - I generally tend to look more at facial features and I can't say I've ever had my opinion swayed to or from a doll because of its ears. Though speaking of ears, I'd love to get some attachable animal ears (cat or dog ears, etc.), those're super cute o/
In a former life I was an elf. LOL! I love my elfie earred girls. I'd like to eventually get an elf boy. Currently I have 3 elf girls and 2 human boys. And as for the length of elf ears, well I don't know if its asthetics or fear of breakage , but I am drawn to the smaller ears.
I like elf ears! I have a few dolls with very large elf ears, but I worry about breaking them. Little pointed ears are cute, and safer when out and about. Elf or human, though, the ears have to be well sculpted. They can be simple, but not crudely sculpted. I've got one doll whose ears look like rough drafts just stuck on the head- I hate them
I prefer smaller, flatter, more realistic human ears, but that's because all of my OCs are human. If I did fantasy characters, I would probably like a variety of ear types.
I like elf ears. I have no elf characters (yet?), but I really have no preferences in my doll ears. What matters the most to me is their face. I'm picky with their faces. There are features a face must/must not have, but ears can come in any shape. It would be really hard to find a sculpt you really liked and had to have elf ears. It would make the search all the more difficult.
Part of the reason I got three of my dolls is because they have elf ears. One has ears that point up, one has ears that stick out, and one has ears that point down. Several others have more subtle pointed ears, and the rest have human ears. Elf ears and tan resin are both really appealing to me.
Since I expect all of my BJDs to be part of the same story, and they are all human, I don't even consider elf ears. Isn't is great that there is something for all of us?
Most of my dolls have regular ears, though I have one with elf ears and one with...something else entirely. I've had other BJD with elf ears before, and as long as they suit the doll in question I'm fine with them. They really don't make or break a doll for me in most cases because they are often covered up by wigs. That said, the elf girl I have now has huge ears and I love them because they do stand out, though I do think it means for more careful wig styling around their size.
I wouldn't say that I don't like elf ears. I think I just haven't found a doll that I liked with elf ears yet. The face tends to be more important to me than the ears. If I find a doll that I absolutely adore who just so happens to have elf ears, yay! If not, I'll still have a pretty little one to spoil.
Elf ears! Long ears, any fantasy type are my first choice, but human ears are ok too. I won't let the style of ears stop me from buying a doll.
I love the fantasy faces, the ones with elf ears, bunny ears, horns etc. My grail dolls would be a male and female centaur, but the ones i like are $1000 so i may never get them but i can look and drool I am also picky about faces, i tend to like the dolls with happy faces over ones who look upset, but i do like the brooding vampire faces so i guess it is a case of seeing which doll stands out to me the most. I love how everyone has such different taste though, it is interesting seeing which dolls others love.
I like both. I keep my MSDs as humans so need human ears on them but my YOSDs are all fantasy characters so most of them have elf ears. I love all the different shapes of the fantasy ears....my blue Willow by the Mushroom Peddlar has the largest ears and I think they're gorgeous.
I definitely find myself far more interested in dolls with elf ears, doesn't matter if they're pointed, long and droopy, etc. as long as they don't stand straight up like a pair of antennas. (why would you even make that) I would like some realistic ears that stick out to be honest, I find that extremely charming in real life and would love a doll with a nice face and that kind of ears.
For me it depends on the character. Due to the written story I have going (and will turn into a photostory later) most all of my characters have elf ears/fantasy parts. That said, when I saw Dai (who has human ears) he immediately turned into my SD13 Yori's younger brother and I was able to write him into the story without difficulty.
Both ! Most of my dolls have human ears, that fit the human characters they are supposed to be, but I also have two lovely little heads with adorable pointy ear and I find it really cute !
I only have two dolls with unusual ear shapes, my Amber and my Heliot. They are also the only ones who aren't humans (not counting the little quirky pet dolls), but in fact gods in the shape of humanoids. So it's okay if they look a bit different, and both molds just have gorgeous ears. I like pointy ears, but they are just not my taste when it comes to my own dolls
I love elf ears! But they're not a make-or-break deal to me. But I adore little traits that make a doll a little more extraordinary, and pointy ears are the most popular way to achieve that, I think.
I love elf ears since i was a little kid. Elves and other magical forest creatures are my thing. You can either create your own elf ears or buy a sculpt with elf ears.
Personally, I like human ears. Choice of ears is depends on the character we want though. Well, I would say both forms are good. They can look amazing depends on how we develop the character.
I prefer elf ears over normal ones. To me, it gives the dolls something mythical/magical. Also, the normal ears tend to stand too far from the head for my liking.... eventhough the wig covers them most of the time
Well I started the hobby insisting on elf ears because I thought they were so cool, however now that I've been in the hobby for a while now I find I actually have a strong preference for the detailed realistic ears. So I suppose my point is I'm finding that my tastes are fluctuating.
I like elf ears, but they can't be too long. A small point at the tip is fine. It sucks that I can't seem to find a head with elf ears that I like. They're either too pointy, or too human-like...
I like the way elf ears look but I'm not sure if I'd ever buy a doll that had them. I don't have any characters in mind that have elf ears. If I did get a doll that had them I think it'd be really paranoid about breaking them since they're so delicate. So I think I'll just stick to human ears for now.
I prefer human ears. I think some of the elf ears are cute but they just aren't my style. I'm not really into fantasy characters as it is.
I personally prefer human ears on my dolls but if I found a sculpt that I really liked that had elf ears it wouldn't bother me
Elf ears all the way! I seem to prefer fantasy looking bjds over human looking ones, so most of the time I'll rule out ones with human ears.
I like both! depending on the character, pointy ears/interesting ears can suit. The thing I worry about though is how fragile elf ears can be
All the characters I have to shell, except one, are elves. The one that isn't an elf is still a race with pointed ears. However, when it comes to shelling them, the face is the most important. Most of my dolls currently have human ears, but I figure that's something that I can learn to mod to make them fit their characters better.
I enjoy both! More humans than elves but I go with whether I love the sculpt, not the ears. If there is an option to have human OR elf ears for a sculpt, I choose whatever fits the character best. Personally I also enjoy the different variety of elf ears available, whether it is cute little points or long, tapered and elegant or something else entirely (Shinydoll Eefee, I am looking at you).
I prefer human ears when choosing my dolls, but natural & simple elf ears can be nice. I wouldn't avoid getting a doll because of elf ears (there are other things that bother me more, such as vampire teeth T_T), but I've considered sanding them down. On the other hand, some sculpts look much cuter with elf ears, such as the Dollstown Elf line which is adorable.
I like both. But it depends on the character that I'm hoping to create. I like the idea of pointed ears for a few demons that I have planned but nothing too wild.
From what I've seen, elf ears are beautiful but I prefer human ears cause I tend to think of my doll as human. Mermaid ears are also very pretty though. I wonder if we'd ever be able to interchange ear styles?
I originally didn't even consider getting a doll with elf ears. However, a prospect came up with the possibility of upgrading to elf ears with no extra charge. Since I'm planning on a woman with a fantasy-ish theme (with horns), it didn't sound so bad after all. It really depends on the character.
Sometimes - I like big elf ears, so If I want the doll to be an elf then I want them to have the ears for it. It depends on the character of the doll, I suppose - both are good. Sticking out ears doesn't make them less realistic - some people have stickingout ears - and so do some dolls. I like the Ninodoll Anna sculpt, for example, partly because of the sitcking out ears. I think it's a nice, realistic, touch. When I had an Anna visiting for a few months, I put her in a wig that showed off the ears. Teddy
You can exchange the ears on some Volks dolls. I have an Irvin that came with human and elf ears, and I think you can order two pairs of ears now when you buy their FCS elf heads. They have 5-6 shapes to choose from if I'm remembering it right.
I'm going to have to say I have a stronger preference for elf ears. Not because I have a bias against human eared dolls, but because all my planned doll characters call for elfin ears. All of mine are going to be based on characters I'm designing for a (graphic) novel I've got in the works, and all the humanoid characters have elfin ears. They won't be elves in the traditional sense, but they will have the ears. Hence why the preference for elf ears. But I do have a head lying around I have a separate character planned for that will have human ears, and my only msd girl has human ears. Sadako I got some years before I got back into the hobby, so she's not a part of the current storyline I've got in the works. I like them with a little bit of length, but those really long and pointy, really droopy, or just rather unusual looking ones aren't really to my tastes. I like them to be more than a human ear with a bit of a point though. Also, I'm more focused on SDs, so the smaller ones don't really catch my attention.
Elf ears are cute but I like the normal human ears. I also think pixie would be cute or something with elf/human hybrid
I can't really get into the whole elf ear thing but I think it's cool that there are dolls for all tastes out there I really like human ears my boy's ears stick out quite a bit his wig is a bit poofy so they aren't really that visible but when he wears long wigs it's a lot easier to tuck behind his ear with those ears of his
