Dollshe Discussion - Part Seventeen

Jan 25, 2022

    1. That's correct! ;)

    2. Oof, I've been out of the hobby for a bit but saw a post on ig of a new sculpt (Dollshe Leo)...but hearing that the wait time for Dollshe dolls is still wack...oof </3

    3. @Crudnuts Good on you for checking. Not everyone researches before plunging in, unfortunately. I also think the new sculpts are beautiful, but knowing you might wait up to three years to get one makes it a much harder sell.

Does anyone have the name or handle of the sculptor? I thought I had her on Instagram, but I can't seem to find her.

    4. I have her on ig! She's @keara.nui --Ugh I love her designs, but I wish maybe she had picked a different bjd company to buy her models? haha

    5. @Crudnuts Thank you! I thought for sure I was following her, but I guess not. Her work is beautiful. Maybe someday we'll get a chance to buy it without having to deal with Dollshe.

    6. Hey oh! I've just received my Dollshe Ausley Love and I was wondering which dresses fit her body.

    7. How long are the waiting times at Dollshe currently...? I'm getting weak again. :nowords:

    8. About 3 years

    9. Got mine after 1.5 year

    10. Don't do it, you'll go crazy waiting and trying to ask about order updates! 3 year waits for some of us, more for people who didn't order dolls that already existed. I've been waiting on a King Corey since 2020 through Divas and Dollshe says they didn't get the order until 2021 for some reason. It took 2 years 7 months to get an Erica Snow head only, ordered in 2019 got it like last month. I had to reorder my original 2019 order of Ausley and Amanda because it was "lost" in 2020 shipping supposedly (btw I don't think that is what happened) but no one told me until I asked a YEAR later at the end of 2021. I had forgotten how seamless normal doll orders could be (Ordered from Loongsoul and Souldoll since then, all orders sent in 5 months or less even with one through a dealer). Don't do it!!! You'll have all the regrets LOL.

    11. If you MUST go with Dollshe, please buy secondhand; don't enable this sham of an artist any further than he already has been.

      • x 14
    12. In their current sales where the sale is limited (100 dolls, 30 dolls) they say they will produce the dolls in 1-2 months vs. the alleged normal 5-6 months. I assume this is very unlikely to be true based on current experiences?

      Ex: Diana (16F CLASSIC MAXI - 61cm) (50% off) - DollShe craft

    13. @Ardent Dollshe has been saying that same thing for years, but the dolls still take anywhere from 1-3 years to show up, and that's only if the person doesn't cave first and ask for a refund.

      • x 12
    14. @Ardent
Take everything Dollshe says with a grain of salt. The tiniest grain. That one tiny grain will be the tiny truth in the Dollshe salt shaker of lies and broken promises. And that truth is that anyone who orders will have to suffer through long waits filled with lies and broken promises (and deleted instragram posts because Mr.Dollshe can't seem to handle people calling him out on his poor business practices).
Like Cloudedmind said, the average wait is 1-3 years, some people have waited over 4.
I suggest reading the current waiting room, which is over 2 years worth of posts, and checking out the waiting list.

    15. I just checked the sale... $170 for a 16F Diana is tempting, so very tempting. But I've read so many horror stories about waiting times and dolls shipped unstrung that I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger, even at such amazing prize.

    16. Thank you both for the reality check and pointers to waiting room with current experiences. That's just tragic, I am so sorry for everyone waiting years for dolls.

    17. That all sounds horrible and eye opening. Thank you, I will not get weak now !!!!

    20. Hello - I have been doing some searching to no avail and I am hoping someone could point me in the direction of a basic stringing guide to the Dollshe 18m classic maxi mystic body (pose plus). I received the doll unstrung from BJDivas and the guides to stringing a doll that I have found don’t seem to be applicable to this body. Thank you so much in advance!

    21. I remember this being asked about in a FB group I'm in. Did a bit of searching and here's the links to those YouTube videos for restringing Dollshe boys:

I hope one of these proves to be useful for you:kitty2

    22. Hello, I am looking at wigs for my dollshe husky, he is currently away at the spa for a face up. Can anyone tell me the head circumference for dollshe husky (sa)? Thank you, if you can help its greatly appreciated

    23. @jade-eyed-cat Thank you so much!! Yes - these were incredibly useful references (I will probably bookmark for my future self just in case) My guy is all strung now and looking good! :) I'm so excited to start sewing for him and fleshing out his character.

    24. I just received my dollshe in the mail yesterday. She came unstrung. Does anyone know if there are pictures or video on how to string a dollshe SDSD? I have never strung one before. Thanks

    25. You string them like any other bjd really. Loop through the chest and arms, and then two separate loops head to foot, only difference is that the channels are wide enough for the knots to sit in the ankles instead of the head/chest.

      • x 1
    26. Thanks. I have never had to string a doll before so no clue to what I'm doing .. joints look odd to me. Haha .. this will take me awhile ...

    27. This may help

    29. This thread has been depressingly, unforgivably quiet!

I honestly don't know if I should post him here because he doesn't look much like a Saint anymore, but the bones of the sculpt are the same and he's still on a Dollshe body, so...?

I spent several months heavily modding this Dollshe Saint faceplate. Project journal here.

I just... I can't... I love him so much. Feels like I've got a brand new doll. My dream doll. Somehow even better than before. Ugh. <3 It's rare when something you work hard on actually turns out as planned, you know? Or at least it is for me. Now to just sit here and stare at him.... :abambi:

    30. I really want to take pictures of my dollshe but I'm so lazy :...( The company sent a floppy body and I should restring it but I hate this operation...

Ausley Love is so particular! And the body is the prettiest ever imho but I still have to find her place into my collection.

    31. I shall go and squeal about this in a more appropriate thread. :D

    32. Hes a gorgeous guy! Modded or not he belongs here! Love his style.

My husky Rhys came home yesterday from Angel Toast. I love him sooo much. I plan to get more camera time with him soon.

    33. Thank you @Nikki'sNewObsession. Rhys looks wonderful. Especially love those bright eyes with his rich skintone, that resin colour is just fantastic.

    35. Ooh what a gorgeous face up! :D AngelToast's work is wonderful.

    36. Thank you. I still can't believe I have him. His resin is quite wonderful.

Yes! Angel Toast is amazing. I've been wanting a guy with a beard for a long while. I thought finally, a character it will work for. I'm not at all disappointed.

    37. @Prinsessen Thank you! :)

Can anyone here confirm that I am not crazy and for a brief period the original Arsene heads used to be smaller? I looked for evidence of this in blog posts on the Dollshe site but couldn't find a note that they had been changed, let alone as to when.

We're trying to run a small head club here and my Arsene is the odd one out at the moment. It's not too obvious in photos, maybe, but it does bother me a little when they are side-by-side in the cabinet. The longer I've thought about this smaller Arsene head, the more I've begun to psyche myself out-- maybe I dreamed it? Probably good to confirm something exists before you go looking for it... anyone?

    38. @Havra It's not just you. I saw pictures on, I think, flickr and it definitely used to be smaller! It was always pretty big though.

      edit: found them!

    39. @Havra I have both the Old Arsene version and the new larger Arsene heads, if you would like any measurements/comparisons/etc just let me know and I'll try to help!

    40. @sahoma Ahh, thank you! These pictures are so helpful! It definitely looks like a big enough change to make a difference for my purposes. My Arsene is supposed to be the brains of the group, but right now he gives me Jimmy Neutron vibes. Any little bit would help.

@Gamine Ooh, how perfect! I am interested in comparing head circumference, overall face length from top of head or hairline to chin (whatever is easier to measure...?) and face width not including ears. Do you have any idea when the change was made? When Dollshe talks about selling the 'Old Arsene', is it the smaller one they're talking about?

    41. @Havra I will get those measurements for you soon, would photos be helpful as well? I will try to take some.

Yes, "Old Arsene" (as Dollshe now calls it) refers to the original smaller head size created with the Arsene body. I don't know exactly when the larger version was introduced but it should roughly coincide with the release of the Mystic body, as the larger head size was created to pair with the Mystic body. Both versions can accommodate the same neck size.

    42. Any photos are most assuredly helpful, @Gamine! Thank you so much for the info and assistance.

Even from what I've seen so far, I definitely want one. Wish me luck in my search...

    43. @Havra Thanks for your patience! Measurements as follows:

Head circumference around fullest part of head: Old Arsene approx 21 cm; updated Arsene approx 22.5 cm.

Length from top of head to chin: Old Arsene approx 8 cm; updated Arsene approx 8.5 cm.

Width at widest point of face (not including ears): Old Arsene approx 4.6 cm; updated Arsene approx 5 cm.

The length and width measurements were tricky (I don't have any calipers); I did my best but would recommend treating these numbers as a rough estimate. I took a few comparison photos and will share them with you via PM as soon as I upload them to a host. If you think of anything else, just let me know and I'll try to help! <3

    44. Thank you very much, @Gamine! So kind of you to take the time. That is pretty much exactly what I want. I hope I can find one now. It would make a real difference in the cohesion of my main trio. With the drastic changes made to my Saint, I'm now trying to find a balance for the others.

    46. Whoa, @Thymeseer, he looks like he's been through it. What is the story behind his customization? I like how you gave him a dead looking eye and everything.

      • x 1
    47. Wow those burn scars are intense @Thymeseer! Did you do them yourself? I'd love to know more about his story.

      • x 1
    48. @Havra @Quiet and Insane Thanks! I did do the scars myself. It's all white glue, paper towels, and pastels. So it's technically removable if I ever feel like redoing it. When I get really brave, I'm coming for the ear on that side.

His name is Anaximander, and he's the big bad in my dnd campaign setting. He's been a character of mine for longer than that, but this way other people get to have him inflicted on them as well. He's high priest to the Mourning God in his world, a once very comforting and pleasant god of loss and the recovery from pain that has been twisted from his original sphere to embrace/cause that loss and humbling instead. Anaximander is furthering the loss of nations to turn people to his deity, instigating wars and assassinations of rulers.

He was horribly burned in a house fire that cost him his siblings and parents, and found his god while recovering. He started to twist the worship when he started to be ostracized for his appearance and for being the sole survivor of the accident. The fingers...well those are more proof of commitment to the cause (his lieutenants have also given up at least one). He's collected other similarly neglected people and now they have a little cult going on that are aiming to bring their god down in the flesh to judge everyone.

      • x 8
    49. @Thymeseer LOVE IT. That is such a cool and creepy concept for a villain. Lots to explore there. I was wondering if the lost fingers were part of his character or if his doll self had had an accident and you worked it in.

      • x 1
    50. Oooo cool! What a great backstory @Thymeseer! I did burn scars using similar materials on one of my other dolls a few years back (but they need a little refreshing around the joint areas).

      • x 1
    51. @Havra Thanks! I love him and his creepiness. I always have fun with the bad guys that think they're doing something righteous! The fingers have always been a part of his character. I felt so so SO guilty chopping them off, but I did get a pair from someone that were already broken. So my conscience was soothed a teeny bit.

@Quiet and Insane Thank you! It's surprising how well it works, considering the cheap materials and relatively simple process.

    52. @Thymeseer - Sometimes, simple is just the most effective!

    53. Oh dear. My initial plan was for my Diana to be on an Iplehouse nYID body, but the hole in her neck is far too small for the S-hook that that body uses! What bodies make good hybrids for Dollshe 16F heads (meaning I won't have to make her neck hole wider)?

    54. Diana notoriously has a problem with S hooks. Even with her default body.
It's not a question of what company fits (pretty sure the answer is none), it's a matter of having tools for take her head off and on.
      Ex of tools lutsdoll co.,ltd.
      lutsdoll co.,ltd.

    55. You can always just use some small braided twine threaded though the elastic to pull it through the tiny hole and then slip the s-hook back into the elastic once it's in the head. I've had to do that with a lot of different hybrids over the years and it's quite simple. You can even just leave a tied loop of string around the elastic so you don't have to rethread it any time you want to remove the head.

    56. Has anybody gotten Carl Mars? The orders started like 2 years ago...

    57. Not going to lie, I forgot that was even a sculpt. I'm going to say no on that one.

      • x 4
    58. @Quiet and Insane - Ha ha! That's a good one!
For the record...I forgot about it also.

    59. I'm not even looking at new releases! I won't order again until I receive all my orders and see news that he has cleaned up his act!
