Blue Fairy Pocket Fairy Discussion part 2

Dec 18, 2012

    1. I think it's the fault of the company for not properly packging the doll. Not the best method for packaging the doll and for being such an old company how did they think this would protect the doll? If it broke it they would need to push the costs resulting in money loss. I did see a piece of resin in my box (still hoping it's junk resin x.x) I took a glance at the doll but didn't see where it came from nothing looked damaged for that. The head cap was also chipped a bit from opening not sure if that's common but wanted to state it some people have issues with these damages (for me it's not a big deal). It was a Christmas present so I can't do much with her right now I'm looking forward to modding her though super happy about that. As for the eyes I looked on their website and read that right after I got her I don't remember when they changed policies. Thing is most companies will give you a random set to not ruin the magic of opening your doll. I feel like you get a special kind of atmosphere when opening your new doll revelaing it etc. But agreed they did change too much over the years and love the teacup photo btw! Sorry for being a debbie downer and a bit of a rant but at least for me this is important maybe to others too exp the high price tag of these dolls. Also! I hope I can get some nice modding in as well for my pocket fairy! Going to be making her wig (first time! ) Faceup needs to be done when it's warmer super clear will be fogged up and maybe attempting to make the outfit as well (I don't sew but maybe tinier is easier? Not sure.)

    2. Have you talked to Blue Fairy about the chip and the extra resin? They would want to make things right for you. I'm sorry you've had this experience! :( Hopefully, it won't be too difficult for you to find some 8mm eyes in your area, so you don't have to pay shipping on such small items!

As for the clothes and sewing them: this is going to involve off-topic dolls for the sake of comparison (and also please bear with my messy desk photo taken after dark here in my room). Dollightful has a pair of videos on her Youtube channel about taking apart doll clothes to make your own patterns. (The second video is about altering the patterns you've made from the first video.)

Okay, so here's some affordable clothes that might be easier to find, that you might not feel bad about seam-ripping for your own purposes!

From left to right, we've got a Pocket Fairy and two Lottie Dolls. Pocket Fairy Charlie is wearing Lottie's clothes, Blonde Lottie is wearing Pocket Fairy clothes, and Redhead Lottie is wearing clothes from Target's "Lori" doll (American Girl Mini Doll competitor) line.

Lottie clothes (what PF Charlie is wearing) are just a teeny tiny bit too short for Pocket Fairies-- the straps on the overalls are tight over the shoulders, and those striped tights expose doll butt crack. However, skirts and the t-shirts are a good fit! (You can buy Lottie doll outfits by themselves without the dolls.) Lottie doll shoes are TOO SMALL for Pocket Fairy feet, by the way. PF Charlie is wearing Pocket Fairy shoes. So if you did buy some Lottie doll clothes to reverse engineer, you'd have to make very small adjustments to the lengths of torso/leg/arm measurements, but the rest of the patterns should work just fine for you!

And I know I should have put a Pocket Fairy in those Target Lori Doll clothes, but I didn't have a completely strung PF hanging around (sorry). The Target Doll Lori clothes and shoes are much too big for Lottie, and somewhat big on Pocket Fairies, too. The pants/tights are way too short for Lotties and Pocket Fairies. HOWEVER, the Target Lori Doll clothing sets are usually less than $9, and they're often on sale (especially now that we're close to Christmas), so they're a good candidate for Dollightful's seam-ripping approach to making your own patterns-- they're a good base to start experimenting with.

I've got no advice for wigs (you can see-- I didn't even put PF Charlie's wig on right! Or the eyes! Yikes!), so I can only wish you the best of luck!! I can't wait to see what you create!! <3

    3. I haven't talked to them yet I wasn't sure if I should mention it because I would need to go through the dealer Angelsque and she was super sweet and very responsive through the whole order. Here is a couple photos with the headcap. A bit on the box again (it looks like her face got smashed against the front and nose inditation is on the plastic.) Also the mysterious resin piece. [IMG]
Looks like they opened her a bit too heavily on the cap but not sure If this is normal for tiny dolls? Not too much concerned because she will be wearing a wig over it.[IMG]
      [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Really think that it might be junk resin still can't figure out where that came from the joints look fine as well so I'm not concerned about it.

This is amazing thank you so much for sharing your info :D! Really appreciate it :hug:and no worries making dolls pretty just means everything else gets messy. These are so cute as well and very useful I will look more into this soon. Thankfully I found the perfect shoes for her so the shoes won't be an issue and with pocket fairy their bodies are so odd it is a puzzle piece trying to find the right outfit sometimes so a bit of modding sounds wonderful for the clothing. I am really excited about this!

Ah no worries I still have an mad who is lacking a faceup and clothing her body is harder to find clothes for even for pocket fairy. The company doesn't have many outfits and it's hard for them to ship outside Japan. This is my first time making wigs ( I bought a goathair weft for the fluffy hair she has.) and sewing I thought I might get a bit more creative than just faceups. I will post pictures of my progress really excited about the customization! I am basing her off an OC I have called Rain really curious how the end results will be. Will keep updated :dance

    4. I'm going to suggest that the piece of plastic is FOD manufacturing lingo for *foreign object debris* I work in manufacturing lol and I've also had FOD fall out of my BF's upon arrival and moving them about or in their boxes. The head cap looks normal to what I have seen on my current collection of 14 PF's they're all fitting like yours is fitting with some gapping.

edit: removed the bad link most of my pics recently deleted from flickr with their new guidelines :(

    5. Tlim happy that it's just junk resin I kind of figured really happy to hear that it isn't anything broken. For the head cap I wasn't sure because I've ordered from other companies and never had indentations on it. Overall I think the packaging just made me overall doubt the doll as well. Also your photo is adorable! Love the outfits!

Happy New Year everyone! Let's have a lot of fun with our dollies this year :)

About the packaging discussed earlier: my tan Charlie also came in new box, he was strapped by those white bands, but headcap was off. Luckily there was no damage, but I also think that pillows were safer.

Also, magnetic headcap adds problems where I could never suspect them: since there's less space in head now, eye changing and positioning is a pain :( Do you have any tips?

      • x 2
    7. I usually take small heads off the body to put in eyes.

    8. Happy New Year, wow, it's been more than a year since anyone posted, probably that long since I've looked in myself, been thinking about getting a new PF with the special BF has going right now, I've always wanted and PF Annie sugar and a PF Sleeping face Roa, hesitating on skin tone Does anyone have the snow white skin? would love to see a pic if you do :D

    9. Just trying to revive the thread with little something :whee: I hope you all are doing well in this COVID madness :sweat
      [IMG]

midolls*melissa, if your question is still active, I have Tiny Fairy Emilie in snow white. Not sure how to illustrate her tone difference, though, since the rest of my Blue Fairy crew is quite old and their normal skin might be different from current offers.

    10. love your photo of your pocketfairy! looks like you have made them matching outfits, so cute! thank you for your link to Emilie, she is beautiful.
I ordered my new pocketfairy long ago and have had my new girls Annie and Roa since May.
I didn't get them in snow white, went with what I new and got them both in beauty white.
thanks for responding and reminding me to post their photo here :)
Roa's body was one that I already had in the classic girl style but Annies is the newer body with the locking elbow and knee joints and I love it.
wish I could now change out all of my pocketfairy but the skin tones would never match and it would be quite costly.

      My new Annie and Roa,

    11. I'm wanting a Pocket Fairy as my next doll, but it's so hard to choose! I'm leaning towards getting a Choco this week.

      • x 1
    12. I didn't order Choco last month, but I did order a Charlie yesterday! Hopefully she'll get to me safe even though the new boxes seem rather flimsy.

    13. Does anyone have a pocket fairy with a sister body?
I have a couple girls with the sugar body, and it’s so tempting to get just one more...

    15. The next order period for the doll I ordered is about to start, and I haven't gotten a shipping notice yet. Under my order on the site in says "Process: Bank Deposit Completed" and "Status: cannot cancel". Should I contact them about how long it's been?

    16. Leo Phoenix, when did you order? Depending on several factors (monthly order, special/limiteds, faceup or blank, etc), it can take 2-4 months for your doll to be ready to ship. I ordered during the Shiny/Junior Just For You order on July 7, and received her on September 9. Before that, i bought their “friend” company’s doll, Celestyn Nina on June 23rd, and received her on August 17th. I live in the middle of the United States, and haven’t had postal delays.

Was your order very recent, or was it more than 3 months ago? That “Bank Deposit Completed” message will stay on that order until they ship it, at which point it will say “on Shipping”. They seem to change that status manually, because it will say “On Shipping” for me even a week or so after i get the doll.

    17. @Peppermintsheep I ordered a a Charlie on the sugar body with a face up on August 5, paid the 6th. So it's been about 3 months.

    18. So it's right about time that they should be shipping! Definitely leave a message for them on their messageboard-- because this week is open for preorders, I imagine they'd be checking the boards more often. Crossing my fingers for you that they message you back with a tracking number!!!!!

    19. I did as you suggested @Peppermintsheep , hopefully I'll hear about my girl being shipped soon!

I got a reply that they'll ship her tomorrow! :celebrate

Added: Just logged into my account again, and it says "On shipping"!

    20. I am looking for new outfits for my Pocket fairy 14 cm and i see some cute ones in Aliexpress for Obi11, my question is does anyone know if pocket fairy can share clothes with Obi11 ? if not what others? I am looking for good quality cute clothes TIA :)

    21. I've been thinking of getting a Pocket Fairy, but as odd as it sounds, I'm afraid of that low price. What's the reason for the $50 price tag? Lack of faceup/eyes? Does the doll come unassembled?

    22. The $50 is just the head. When you add the body it will add $140 or $150 depending on the body.

      • x 1
    23. It looks like they're pricing all the parts separately, and the $50 is just for the head. If you go to the body dropdown, you'll see that the different bodies add a different amount to that price, bringing it to a more realistic $190-$200 (ex: a NS Noma with a Sugar body and no other extras is $190).

Edit: ah, Nancy answered while I was typing, sorry for the duplication.

    24. Okay, that makes a lot more sense! Thank you!

    25. does anyone know what would be a closer match for the old LE white skin sleeping minimay? would it be beauty white or snow white? i wanted to get her an open eye head at some point! but also she has yellowed a bit (besides being a box for a while) so maybe i should just get a whole new pocketfairy.

also i'm a bit confused about mini fairy vs pocket fairy? i went through this thread and earlier it seemed like it was a different head and body system for minifairy, but then it seemed like it was not, and now i am very confused (and also not sure when they even restock unlike the PF which are listed by month)

final question! will the nano fairy be coming back into stock ever do you think? they are so tiny T_T

    26. This is an old question but the answer is beauty white skin is the closest.

    27. Has anyone had any experience with the Pocket Fairy sister body? I wonder how well it poses? Can they share clothes with Blythe?

    28. Does anyone have a Roel? I need to redo the faceup on mine, I was looking for owner pictures as reference but can't find any.
Also, do you know how I can get her to stop kicking? She's on the sugar body and can't stand because her knees keep bending.

    29. I do not have a Roel only sleeping Roa, she is in the middle of this pic...
as for the kicking legs the only thing that has worked for me on the classic sugar/pepper bodies is to wire the legs...
the last PF that I got from Bluefairy actually came wired by them and that was before the body renewal.

Here is an updated circle pic of all of my Pocketfairy dolls:

    33. Did anyone order with this order period? Was so tempted to get a tan skin Fei but ended up buying a pocket fairy Charlie off another DOA member instead :)

    34. no Pocketfairy for me with this preorder (just shoes, hand and feet parts for my TF's) was seriously considering snow white Fei because I don't have any with the snow skin but unfortunately I just don't like the renewal bodies even if they can pose better I don't like the longer neck and the tiny feet

    35. Hi, I mostly lurk here for now but I have plans for some PFs in the future. I'm going to have a small collection of dolls of Studio Ghibli characters and the Pocket Fairies are perfect for most of the kid characters. I've mostly just been looking for clothes and shoes that'll fit them when I'm able to get them, but there's a prop I've been looking for that I can't seem to find (or don't know what size to look for).

Tombo from Kiki's Delivery Service (who will be a Choco) has a bicycle that he tries to put a propeller on to make it fly. I can find bikes meant for Barbie dolls, but they're bound to be way to big for a PF (even ones on the sugar and pepper bodies like what I have planned). Does anyone happen to know of any bikes these little beans could fit on? Any help would be appreciated! I'm stumped!

      • x 1
    36. @MonochromeNocturne oh my gosh, you’ll have to post pictures!!

For finding a bicycle, you might have luck searching for Lati Yellow props? I think Tiny Delfs and maybe Pukipukis are in the same size range as Pocket Fairies (I think they are those companies’ versions of PFs), so you might have better luck using those as search terms. If you’re using Sugar/Pepper bodies for your Pocket Fairies, Blythe-sized props miiiiiiight work for you, but they might also be a tad too big. Good luck!

    37. The Christmas tree decorations Hallmark sold a while ago might work. Do you need a two wheel bike or a tricycle?

    38. I definitely will, when I get them! And I'll have a look at Blythe, some things sold for them look a tad on the small side, so they might work.
Tombo's is a two wheel bike. I swear finding stuff for the original PF bodies is easier than for the Pepper bodies

    39. I don't have the two wheeled bike but I have Yoko w/Sugar body riding a hallmark trike, as far as clothes to fit the sugar/pepper bodies, Petworks Odeco, Nikki and Usaggi are the best fit width wise for the clothes, shorts fit but regular pants are a bit short. The outfit Yoko is wearing is from TTYA Lati size.

    40. Random question but does anyone have a comparison of a recent pocket fairy head on the new small body vs the new sugar body? I never quite got attached to my sugar girl because her head always looked so much smaller than my PF minimay. On one hand, it could be the proportions, but my minimay is super old (one of the first le releases I think) so maybe the head mold was a different size? I need to measure for sure!

I'm craving another little pocketfairy. Yoko reminds me so much of myself at 4 would also love to see pics of everyone's fei and didi, while I'm figuring out my potential mini me!

question 2: my pocketfairy in the new sugar body seems really stiff, like I can barely tilt her head up and down and the arms tend to catch on that part that makes them stand straight out. Anyone else with this issue?

    41. I have the new and the old sugar body the only difference that I noticed was that the feet are smaller and the neck is longer on the new sugar body compared to the old sugar body I did not notice any head size difference I believe they are the same size new/old and little/sugar. My new sugar Annie isn't stiff.

    42. Thanks so much! Could be she's just strung too tight. I appreciate the double jointed posing but I kind of miss the old bodies I think!

      • x 1
    43. Ugh. I have a craving. For a pocketfairy. Maybe a Yoko? With that little black bowl cut wig she looks a lot like I did as a kid

      • x 1
    44. I may have just bought a Yoko (and a Fei). I need to get some more clothes! Does anyone have suggestions for sewing patterns? It's hard to find pocket fairy specific ones though I know they exist in magazines. They're a bit of a strange size for sewing haha

      • x 2
    45. You didn't say which body you are getting but for the sugar and pepper bodies:
Anything that fits Petworks Odeco/Niki it may be hair short in the leg or sleeve though width wise is perfect.
Anything that fits Ruruko like Azone xs it may be hair long in the leg or sleeve again perfect width wise.

    46. Oh it's for the little OG bean bodies but thanks! I have a sugar so that helps too

    47. The Pocket Fairys are recruiting again, but this time it looks like they needed a troop member who could see over the top of obstacles. :D New size for me, it should be fun!

    48. It's fun to gave a new size! She's adorable!

    49. Thanks, Nancy...she kind of fits in with the ED Hana and BisouAI group so she's not totally alone, but she's slightly smaller. I haven't worked with that group much...I rarely see the Joong/Bisou/Hana sized kids anywhere other than my own troop, so I'll likely take her to the CC panel in July. Iit will be a nice change to have her out and see if there are others in the local BJD community.

    50. *performs necromancy on this thread*

Hi gang! Have you seen the new “Dainty Fairy” available for sale this weekend? Here’s the link: Bluefairy International-I will always be here for you

And here’s what a Dainty Fairy looks like next to a baby body Pocket Fairy:

So what do you all think?

      • x 2
    51. Cute! And there are a lot of friends available in that size!

      • x 1
    52. I'm a little confused the Dainty Fairy says 16cm height where the Pocket Fairy Boy Body is 14cm... Am I missing something or just bad at math?

I'm a big dummy. I figured it out!!

    53. Bluefairy just put up an announcement that they will be changing manufacturing plants, prices will be going up due to this, and some items discontinued. They are doing a "Last Sale" from this plant that includes Blue Fairy, Tiny Fairy, Shiny Fairy, and Pocket Fairy items, including limited heads, from May 15th, 2024 to May 31st, 2024.

      • x 1
    54. I was scrolling Instagram and I shot up in bed because Bluefairy has an All-Type choice preorder for Pocketfairies! Now the international site seems to work for purchases, but the field in which you can specify which head you want seems to be missing. Is this normal? I will pass because I have lots of incoming dolls AND because I'm waiting for a Shinyfairy preorder to get a Hana. I just want to be ready to use the website correctly when the time comes!

(Do I want a Pocketfairy VERY badly? Yes. Will I be a responsible adult because I have 5 dolls incoming? Also yes.)

EDIT: Am I the only one who thinks the new 1/6 body with no mobility and magnetic parts they offer is... impractical? If not questionable?
