April Story SD Boy & Girl Dolls - Part 2

Mar 12, 2015

    1. I had to restring, hot glue suede, and wire to get my Clover to behave. It certainly is a beautiful body, though.

    2. HE IS HERE!!! omg the day after Christmas, angel is here and he is so beautiful. his box opening is here!
I love him so much good lord such a beautiful doll.

    3. Mine's gone back in her box...the twisty legs are so awful I can't be bothered with her now. I'll be interested in seeing the result of your restringing M. Good Luck!

    4. ...yeah, and I finally got my New Ishyllia from makeup, so there she is!
Her name is Hamelunna. While Leaf Fall (my New Fall above) is autumn with its gloomy weather and bright colors, burning sun in the beginning and freezing snow in the end, Hamelunna is the Moon and its bare silver light in the cold night.

    5. Hamelunna is gorgeous, @Simiram!

My Senior Girl body is supposed to ship at the end of next week, so fingers crossed I'll have it soon!

Here is my Clover guys! When I first got her I'm actually not so sure if I like her, but omg she's super cute and I'm inlove.

    7. She is adorable! Sometimes it takes a little time and eyes and wig to fall in love with a doll!

    8. Oh wow Clover is super cute! Can't help but love that eye shape :D

I have only one part left to pay of my order. I'm getting a bit excited!

    9. I got really frustrated restringing my April Story bodies. I have both the male and female. Can someone do like a restringing manual for them? I've sueded them and everything, but they are still way too floppy :/

    10. I restrung my Senior boy differently than how he came to me and it helped him not be floppy. He IS capable of being strung like a...I hate to say normal, but what else can I call it? I can string him the same way I string my old Delf's and he doesn't flop anymore. That criss-cross mess of strings wasn't helping him. That's all I can say.

That said, I still can't get him to stand well at all. Even after sueding his ankles he still wobbles about and wont balance. I think I need to get him a pair of sturdy boots..

(Hello discussion thread! I have a Liam and an Anthony on the way. Nice to meet you. :blush)

    11. Joining in on this thread! I'm about 20/30-60(hopefully) business days waiting for my Joshua and Rosella. Wooo. The long wait, which I've heard is always longer with April Story.

    12. How does he sit with standard stringing? I need to restring my boys. I think I will try silicone kips at the ankles. Thanks for the warning!

    13. Ok, I just checked, and I did do the one cross of elastic, but before it was worse. April Story had him strung top and bottom separate. x.x So, here is how I have my Liam strung:

And like this he poses nicely. He can sit up unaided, though I do have him slouch forward. (he wants to slouch all the time anyway though) I think with some nice boots he'll be able to stand more solidly, but until then I'll have him on a stand or sitting in a chair.

    14. Thank you! That is the way I was planing to string mine!

    15. How well to the junior girls stand and pose without restringing? I've never restrung anything and I'm worried I might mess it up.

    16. I want to restring my junior girl the same way Akai Okami did her boy. Re-stringing is not that hard.

    17. They don't come strung that way already? That's what I expected (but obviously haven't gotten mine yet, lol).

I asked about shipment, but they must be on vacation for New Year. :sigh She was supposed to go out three weeks ago.

    18. They have never been good at estimating when a doll will ship!

    19. I know it, lol. I thought because I only asked a week before, it might be closer to correct, but I was being optimistic, lol.

    20. Nope. Mine came with one loop of elastic going from his neck, down through his hips, and back up to his neck. The second loop of elastic went from one foot to the other up through his hips. He was loose and floppy and couldn't hold any pose or sit..it was awful. Thankfully I'm very used to restringing dolls (I often restring dolls for my friends too. I think it's fun) so it wasn't an issue to fix him, but I was laughing and trying to figure out why April Story thought stringing him that way was a good idea. :P

    21. They're not the only ones - Granado's Nuevo girls are strung the same way.

    22. My junior girl goes from the neck down to one foot, up a through the hips, down to the other foot, and then back to the neck! I'll have to check the other dolls!

    23. The new Supergem's are strung that way too.

I checked my two boys and I was amazed to find and "H" type stringing! Excuse my wavy lines! The green is the holes in the hip piece.

    24. Hah! Gods all this discussion about stringing is making me nervous about what my senior boy will be like when he eventually appears!

Though I did buy him because of the "couldn't care less" slouch his posture has, so glad that at least seems to be consistent!

    25. @Vetinari I know just how you feel. I got the junior female body that has no torso joints so I don't have to worry about slouching, so I'm more worried about floppy legs/arms.

@nancy_schroeder_ca How well does the H stringing work?

    26. Not very well! I think they could use better elastic also.

    27. I had no idea there were so many ways to string a doll, haha! Now I'm kind of excited to string the body in different ways and see what works.

    28. Let us know what works the best! I've kind of settled on the idea I'll have to restring my Stella when she gets here... eventually... Ugh the waiting is the hardest part!

    29. I ordered a senior girl body on Dec 21st I hope it doesn't take too long to come!

    30. Settle in for the long haul, lol.

    31. Haha, yup. I ordered Stella on November 25th, so she'll probably arrive anywhere between mid February to mid March.

    32. Eep! I just paid off my Adrian&Adrienne :dance Now we wait ...

    33. Nice!! I also ordered an Adrian (back in November), so I'm happy there's gonna be more Adrians out there. He's such a cute sculpt!

    34. Absolutely! I initially wanted his body for hybriding purposes, but I'm fairly sure he'll end up sharing, he's too cute to join the Floating Head Brigade :D
Yours will get home before mine though, I paid them off early - only ordered at the end of December. I'm expecting them to take a couple more months to get home.

    35. Nice! Yeah, I love his eye shape, and it's cute you'll have both gender versions of that sculpt.
I hope my Adrian gets here by spring break, because I got him sent to my house - and I go to college exactly 1000 miles away :shudder So I'll either be unboxing him in mid-March, or in June...

    36. Whoops! Fingers crossed for you, then! Having to wait that much longer would be a nightmare ... :nowords:

I have a sneaking suspicion my Adrian will end up genderbent - I fell in love with Adrienne first, but he looks like he could pass for a more realistic girl instead of a more stylized boy and most of my bunch are on the realistic side of things. Depends on the actual size of his head (wig size is good to know but doesn't tell that much, my Elfdoll Yuan is HUGE and wears size 7-8 wigs) and how (s)he would fit on any of the available bodies. But as I have no immediate plans for either of them, I guess time will tell ... they were pretty much the closest I ever get to an impulse purchase, grab the 1+1 deal before they were discontinued. :sweat

Do you have plans for yours?

    37. Oh, cute idea! I know April Story's boy heads are bigger than their girl heads, but I'm not sure how they compare with other companies...good luck! Any idea what wig colours/fashion style/etc you're thinking of for either of them?

I originally planned to shell an OC in my Adrian, but that OC has long, light-colored hair, and I like how that sculpt looks with short hair so much that I bought him a short, dark wig instead :'D. He could still cosplay that character, but he's sort of turning into his own guy.

I also grabbed a perfect vest for Dipper from Gravity Falls off rrabit, and I'm considering another cosplay for him too (A character from Osomatsu-san). He'll be my first older-looking bjd that can really cosplay - the other one has a huge face scar - so I got a little too excited...:sweat

    38. I've gotta say, the customer service for April Story s great. I mean, sometimes you have to send the same message twice for them to respond, but they respond quickly. I wanted to change my order from a B size bust to a C size, and they said that was just fine, even though I ordered way back in November.

    39. How great that more New Adrians - among others - will be coming in a little while!
Mine arrived in December, but I haven't really done much with him yet. There were some mix-ups, and he arrived on the Senior body instead of the Junior one, and I'm now waiting for his correct body. (I agree with Hime_Takamura, though: April Story has great customer service!:))
The clothes I'd made for him while waiting for him to get home, now of course are too small, so he's having to borrow stuff from the other guys. Without his proper body, I'm not really able to picture who he was supposed to be, so I'm even hesitant to give him a face-up at the moment.

But I'm very happy with his sculpt, and took some pictures a few days ago when testing my new camera.
Here's one for those still waiting for their own boy to arrive home :

    40. *melts* Oh my, he's handsome! Congrats! (Where did you find that wig? It looks great on him!)

ossuarie, I don't have the faintest clue honestly. With these two I'll just have to wait and see what happens once I've got them in my hands ... I do love Adrienne's default color scheme though so I'll probably stick with green (or maybe blue) eyes / blonde hair for her.

    41. Just to ask if I'm to stupid.
where do you find the dolls and there prices. On their webpage there are no dolls and i have to login.
Do I have to create a account before i can see their dolls?

    42. They discontinued all their sculpts at the end of last year after a warehouse fire destroyed most of their molds ... I can still see the pictures (even when I'm not logged in), but they are no longer for sale.

    43. Oh no.. I've heard about this but forget the company. Are the making new dolls or are the quitting everthing?

    44. They said they were "starting over" and making completely new sculpts so I hope they will be back with something sooner or later.

    45. I hope their new sculpts would be so beautyful as the old ones ^^
      Thanks for the info.

    46. If you click on the Senior or Junior headings you should still be able to see the dolls.

    47. I better not. I could fall in love with a scult and then realize that she never would be produced again ^^
i wait until new dolls will cone :-p

    48. My body arrived in 3 days flat! I'm shocked! The color match isn't good at all with Impldoll pink, so I'm not quite sure what I'll do, but I do like the lovely sculpting. Everyone's natural skin lovelys look rather pink in photos, but there isn't a hint of pink in mine. Weird.

Excuse the extra leg and lack of pants. :S

    49. Is that a senior or junior body? Also I didn't know they came with those white heels, that's awesome!

    50. The Senior body. I didn't either! It was a nice surprise.

I did restring her, but the way her legs are strung (so you can swap the regular and heel legs right at the knee), is a bit odd. She poses a little better now and I did get her to stand with a little work. Her ankles are now the weak spot (which won't be a problem with heel legs). She doesn't really seem to pose much at all :S, but I haven't had much chance to play with her.

    51. Ah yeah, everyone has been saying that the stringing is weird. Maybe sueding or getting joint pads for the feet will work? I ended up getting the heel feet rather than the heel legs...

    52. Thanks, Jany! His wig is a synthetic mohair one, similar to this one. Not sure mine is the same colour, but I think so (there are 2 or more different shades of brown available) and it's in size 8-9". (Fatiao on Ebay has a good overview of colours, though this style isn't available in this size at the moment, I just noticed. And Dollmore also sells some synthetic mohair wigs in different styles. This would be their Enfant Cut.)
I like synthetic mohair wigs a lot, because the hair looks so realistic and can be easily styled in different ways, just by using your fingers, no heat or anything needed.:)

urbanizer: Congrats on the speedy arrival of your body!
And yes, somehow in pictures the April Story resin has always looked a lot more pink than IRL, where it actually has much more of a yellow tone.

    53. Since you won't have to worry about the heel legs, you could string her like Akai Okami restrung Liam here. That's basically what I started to do when I discovered how the girls' lower legs are strung separately. I'm not sure if the main piece of elastic alone is long enough to string the whole body, but that would be the ideal way to do it. That's how all my minis are strung.

I couldn't believe how fast it got here! Three days! I could only find one picture in the whole of the interwebs that said April Story normal would match Impl pink. I did other comparisons that seemed to confirm it, alas.... Oh well. It's a beautiful body and I'll figure out what to do about it later. :)

    54. What size eyes have you guys been using for your AS dolls? I have a while before mine arrive(paid off Dec 30th) but I want to order a few things before hand!

    55. I got a 3 pairs of 18mm eyes for Stella, according to her description. I've also ordered a few clothes from legenddoll and a custom outfit from etsy. I need to get a custom wig since the character I'm making has very long hair but I'd like to have the doll first so I can measure how long it needs to be and how long the bangs should be to not cover up her eyes.

    56. My Liam is wearing 16mm and they are perfect. He can wear 18mm as well, but I felt they were too big for him. Maybe if he had light colored eyes it wouldn't have been too bad, but right now I love him in these Souldoll black eyes. :D

I usually wait to have a doll in hand before I learn what size they actually take. I've learned most doll companies recommend a size up from what I usually prefer. Though of course there are exceptions. :)

      • x 2
    57. OH! Thanks for the info. I always liked smaller iris' on dolls so I will most likely go with 16mm for my AS babies. :D:D;)

    58. I'd love to buy a body from April Story, but I can't seem to get through. Does anybody here have a way to get a hold of them?

    59. You could try their email at [email protected] but I don't think they're still selling anything. They had a fire at a next door warehouse and some of their molds were damaged by sprinklers (from what I understand)
