April Story SD Boy & Girl Dolls - Part 2

Mar 12, 2015

    1. I got a nice e-mail with shipping info for my winter 1+1 event Liam and Anthony (on the senior boy bodies) today. They've already left Korea. :DConsidering that I put in a request for a change of heads in January, that's pretty quick. I'm excited. This is my first ever order from them.

    2. Solitary Agent, do you think you could change the thread's title to SD instead of Senior? That way, people won't be confused as to whether elder/junior bodies can also be discussed here. :) Congrats on the shipping notice, cant wait to see pics of them!!

    3. I didn't even mean to start the thread - my post got moved! I'll see if I can, LOL. Pictures of Anthony coming soon - both boys are lovely and were in perfect condition with no flaws in the resin, but only my Anthony has his faceup. :)

ETA: thread title changed, and here's a photo! His name is Stuart and his hair's always messy - more so at some times than others. I need new eyes for him, though - they're supposed to be brown, but the only brown ones I have on hand are far too small. These are 16mm acrylics. I'm really pleased with his faceup - nice quality for the price!

    4. Solitary agent - congrats with you Anthony! He looks sweet :)

    5. Congrats, he looks adorable!! Love those little teeth :3 And thanks for the title change, itll be less confusing for newcomers now :)

    6. Congratulations on your Anthony! He looks wonderful! It makes it easier to wait for mine!

    7. Anyone is getting the renewal dolls ?
I'll be tempted if they make a renewal Su.
      Or a dreaming Su... :XD:

      @ solitary agent
Congrats for the shipping notice ! :)
      Stuart looks dashing~ :D

    8. I do, I wanted to get the new Ishyllia... But I'm already in the middle of a layaway plan for two Sophias ^_^'
I think April Story became my favorite company, almost all of my dolls are from them...

    9. They are tempting. I have a New Fall guy coming and I would love to do another 1 + 1 action... tempting, very tempting!

    10. The event is tempting, but I was hoping for another girl to be released and my last event order to be shipped!

    11. Yes, I want mine to be shipped first too. And I want play with them. And know how I feel about their bodies, dress them and do their face-ups. And hope there will be another 1+1 action later this year?

    12. solitary agent: What a cute boy, he's got such a wonderful subtle smile!
Last December, I wanted to make a special "happy new years" greeting for my father. I wanted to take a picture of one of my BJDs to do that with. Only to discover that I must be hopelessly drawn to sad and shy faces. Because there wasn't a single one who could play the part in a well meant wish to share happiness. Anyone with even the hint of a smile, I'd made very sure lost that while giving them their face-up.
(Good thing shortly after a realpuki Soso arrived! Not a sculpt that easily lends itself to that kind of treatment.;))

And now, despite not wanting to get anymore SD's, I'm really thinking about ordering the New Ishyllia and perhaps even New Ja Seong. I was able to decide against the New Spring boy, as before with the old one, even though I'm very much drawn by his subtle smile.
But I can see such a beautiful sadness in the other 2 new ones, that I'm finding it incredibly hard to resist.:sweat Especially Ishyllia who I always kind of regretted deciding against. There was just something in her face that made me hold off. But it looks like that's exactly what they changed in the new version.
So yeah, I think this time I might cave...

Vienni: I wouldn't be at all surprised if they added (at least some) more girls within this event period. Perhaps Su will be amoung them if they do!

    13. If you ask them you could have a head added for $60 dollars. That is what I did for my 1+1 deal + the Fall head that came later! And I agree - there are some very beautiful dolls there... And there are several that fit in my 'sad & contemplating gang'. 4 aspecially: Ishyllia, Liam, New Winter and Liam vampire...

    14. I've thought about asking that, but I saw that a request (by Deekkru) on their Q&A board about adding a head to their order of a full doll got turned down! Yes, the've got quite a lot of beautiful dolls. I keep getting tempted by them, manage to resist, then only to be tempted by one that I like even more!*_*

    15. I did have 2 dolls on order - and put in my question very politely and with the 'I understand that would mean that order will be delayed'.
And I know they have also accepted to exchange a head for another for someone else - but that order might not have been made yet. Mine was on the verge of shipping, so I counted myself very lucky!

    16. Nothing ventured, nothing gained... and of course it might also help I've been buying dolls from them ever since they were still Ariadoll.:)

    17. I didn't realize they were Ariadoll!

    18. Yep, and they've even continued the way they did events back then!
I fell head over heels for Stella as soon as I saw her in pictures of with that long blonde/pinkish wig and those on the Junior body. Only to realize that it's the same that got me with the Ariadoll Valentine sculpt...

But not only that, I jumped on the chance to later on adopt an Everpurple Iris head from the MP. Everpurple later became Ariadoll. (Well either that, or they sold their sculpts to Ariadoll. I wasn't in the hobby back then yet, I think.)

The New Ishyllia reminds me of a, what Cyador called "sad and contemplating", mix of the Valentine and Iris sculpt. Which is what I'm trying to use against myself to stick to the 2 I have. BIG Problem is, she is perfection come true for me, as she combines what I like most in each of the other 2 sculpts.:sweat

Oh, and actually, Valentine can also be linked back to Everpurple. As it's a slightly modified version of their Lusi/Lusil(?)sculpt. (Out of Lusil/Valentine/Stella, I think I like Stella best, because I think she has the most realistic face and nose.)

I'm delighted with the more "realistic" route AprilStory seems to have taken with the renewal of sculpts. It's just that I keep hoping they'll release MSDs some day, as I prefer that size. Ariadoll had some nice MSD's. If AprilStory would release similar ones with that same added realism, I'd be in heaven!

    19. I like Juliet!

    20. Hi! I got a question and I think you might be able to help me here.

I'm currently considering replacing the Classy Doll body I got last year with an April Story Senior boy body (especially since that renewal Julian just keeps staring at me, telling me to "buy me! buy me! buy me!"). One of the reasons I want to get rid of the Classy Doll body is its default slouch. You can't pose that body so that it's standing straight. I noticed on the April Story pics of their Senior boy body that there seems to be a default slouch, too. Can you actually make them stand straight or are they always slightly bent over the way they are on the company pics?

    21. Khell: Hi, based on the Senior body I have, I'd say the newest Senior body can stand straight without a slouch. I can't be 100% positive about this 3rd generation body, as I only have a 1st and a 2nd generation one.
At the time, when I ordered my Julian, I had the same question as you have, because from all the pictures of the 2nd gen. body, it also looked like he'd always be slightly bent over. But the 2nd generation can actually stand straight as well!

Here's a quick picture I took of both (previous) bodies when my Julian arrived:
[IMG]April Story Ren and Julian. by Wolfboy141, on Flickr
Ren on 1st gen. Julian on 2nd generation Senior body

It looks very straight here, though it's not the best picture, so I just checked the body again by looking at him standing sideways to be sure, and yes he can stand perfectly straight.
If you compare the 2nd body with the last picyure of the 3rd gen. body (the "detailed doll size" one), you might notice how in my boy's body there's a bit more of the most upper part of the body's middle section that can be seen. That's just the bit extra that makes him stand straight.
Here's a link to an ASDoll picture of the 2nd generation body that I saved.

Hopefully someone here can confirm if it's the same for the 3rd gen. body.

    22. Thanks for the quick answer, Wolfboy! It's pretty much "decided now that I want a Julian. Just gonna wait for more info here on the 3rd gen. body! I'll order him next week, on my birthday. :)

If I didn't need the body for my Ryoma Sakamoto head, too (the boys will have to share it *gg*) I'd go for the Junior body instead since that one seems to be able to stand pretty straight. But it'll very likely be too small for the Ryoma head since that's an SD17 head ...

    23. Khell: I'd say his default pose is slouching (beautifully XD), but you can make him stand straight.
I'll see if I can take a pic when I get home!

    24. winfur: Thanks, I really appreciate it! I don't mind slouching when the boys are sitting - in fact, I prefer it since it makes them easier to sit down on that wooden bench I got for them. I just like to stand them straight when I take pics of them standing up.

    25. Crappy pic, but I hope it can help!
As you can see, he can stand straight ^^

    26. winfur - Thanks! It's decided, then, since April Story also wrote me back on ther Q&A and let me know their resin matches Volks resin. *glares at April Story's Julian* You've won. Happy? ;)

    27. Hi! Just a quick question, since I can't seem to find any advice. Those of you with the 1st Gen Senior boy body: how do you manage to stand your boys? Mine keeps tipping forward or backward. It got better after I wired him, but when I put shoes on him he starts doing the same thing again x_x

    28. I wish they'd stop putting up new dolls, they are so gorgeous and I want all of them...... The temptation is real.....

    29. I jest checked mine again, but no problems there. You can't see where the body's tipping point is coming from? Are the hip parts in their correct place in the hip sockets?
If they are, I don't know how you've wired yours, but I wired mine with the use of a single piece of wire that I bent into an (upside down) "U" shape, and fed one end through one of the hips, the other through the other. I'm not sure, but yes, it's very well possible I did it that way to make him more stable!

    30. My boy tips from his ankles. x_x it's like he's perpetually off balance when he wears shoes. But when I stand him barefooted, he's pretty stable. Maybe I should try standing him with a different pair of shoes.

    31. If that doesn't work, maybe try hot-glue sueding his ankle joints? To add more stability?

    32. Different shoes might work. The feet may not settle in those shoes properly. You can also get little silicone Kips for the ankle joints.

    33. I just got my april story stella today and here's a crappy picture just in case someone wanted to see the sculpt ^^ shes really cute in person :aheartbea

    34. Congrats on her arrival! How do you like her body? And do you have the body with or without the torsojoint?

    35. Teabumbs: Congratulations, she's adorable!

    36. Teabumbs: Adorable indeed! Please take lots of pics!! XD

    37. Wait, that's where AriaDolll went to?! I had no idea (or had forgotten), but it makes sense, the quality is similar and I can see some of the same features in their face sculpts - always thought Narvy was cute. I have two AriaDoll bodies from when they were still selling under that name, the 16yr and 18yr boys. Switch bought their older body sculpts, though, didn't they?

This makes me happy since they were my go-to company for any new-ish Volks-normal-matching head that needed a body, since the resin match works out well with Volks, Crobidoll and Pluto Doll, a few of my favourite companies. Stuart (my Anthony) definitely gets to keep his body, though - I'm quite happy with him. I'm sure he appreciates all the compliments - he's a bit vain. ;)

    38. Thanks so much everyone :D
Cyador she's with the torso joint. The body is nice, she has really bad seam lines though. Her posability is average, but she doesn't stand well without shoes.
If anyone wants to see special pictures of the body or anything just ask ^^

    39. Yeah, I got denied. Twice. But that won't stop me from asking again if I can scrape together enough before the event ends. (Shameless plug: If anyone wants bodies, I have a split that needs filling! One or two bodies available.) I'd heard about others being allowed to add heads, and honestly, I am not afraid to bring that up if they tell me no again. XD

    40. hey deekkru, have you tried telling them that you will pay extra? they were really kind with their reply when i asked to exchange heads and that i would pay extra if it was too much trouble. In the end they didn't make me pay extra and I got an exchange :o

    41. # Deekru - I mentioned buying + asking for the price too + I mentioned that I understood that it would delay the shipping of my order.

    42. Teabumbs, I would love to see more pictures of this body and know more about how it poses. I have had one on order since December along with my order for a My Angel head. I am hoping the body being just average posing wise doesn't ruin my excitement over the head.

    43. Thank you all for the advice! I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help <3

    44. I've noticed since my last post that the current resin is quite a bit more yellow-toned than the resin used for my old AriaDoll bodies, which was on the pale side. The posing on the 65 cm boys is definitely a bit more... clunky, for lack of a better word, than those bodies were. They're solid and the quality of the resin itself is nice, but they take a bit of manipulating for seated poses - especially the thigh joints. They may just be tightly strung - they're still a bit squeaky.

    45. April story said they will be shipping my order at the end of March or beginning of April
      (✿) I'm waiting.
Anyone else on the same boat?

    46. I'm waiting too. But I was bad in the year end sales and have been distracted by other arrivals!

    47. Oh yaay what are you waiting for?? Waiting for my winter boy to come quq

    48. Yes me, I am waiting for Joshua, Fall, Minggu (?) and an Anthony head.... and I have been anxiously keeping an eye on my mailbox for the shipping notice :)

    49. ooh me too cyador. I've been checking my email every second i can q-q I've waited this long i can wait a little more!! not really.... Nice big order you have!

    50. Yeah - me too :) And yes, my order is huge. I did the 1+1 action on the last day of 2014 for a Joshua and Anthony - which comes with a free Minggu - and then when it was just before shipping they came with New Fall - and it was love at first sight! So I added his head to the order, which delayed the shipping to about now... Exciting!

    51. Ordered Julian yesterday - let's see if I can manage to finish my layaway early so I can have him here earlier. :D

    52. I've got an April Story Adrienne that I bought a year ago when they discontinued all the sculpts they had at the time. She's on the body with the one-piece torso--- they were calling it the Senior girl body when I bought her but it looks to be the same exact body they're now selling as the Junior girl body. Well, after a year she finally needs restringing, and.... yikes. I'm normally not put off by restringing at all--- I restrung my first doll as soon as I got her just to see how she went together--- but I could use some help with this one. The stringing channels are SO. FREAKING. NARROW! I'm trying to use the extra string that April Story sent along with her, and it seems so THICK for these tiny channels. I can't even figure out where the heck I'm supposed to put the knot in the arm string..... the vertical channel from the neck down thru the center of the torso will be blocked for the leg strings if I put it in the center, and it doesn't fit anywhere else!
Has anyone else with the one-piece torso girl body tried restringing using the extra string that came with their doll? If so... SOS/help?!? Any tips would be greatly appreciated--- I really miss my girl being put together. I was all excited thinking I was gonna string her and then make her a new dress tonight and now I'm sitting here with a sad pile of parts and the only thing I can think of is buying smaller diameter string =(

    53. oh yay grats Khell! Julian is such a cool sculpt <3
And darkestar, i do not have a april story body so i dont know about the stringing q-q but have you tried like attaching the string to a small wire to put through the channels, then pulling the rest of it through?? Idk just a suggestion D: goodluckk

    54. thedarkeststar13, I usually use 1/8 inch ribbon to pull the elastic through. A bent piece of thin wire is always an option. The knot in the arm elastic usually goes in the torso and just off center.

    55. Sugar Benki and Nancy Schroeder, thank you both for your replies! I do usually use something thin to pull the elastic thru as well--- I've been using loops of medium weight yarn. Wire might help as the stiffness could give me more control over where the elastic is going. And thanks so much for the answer about the positioning of the knot in the arm string. That is super helpful.
If anyone else has any tips/experiences with restringing the April Story girl body with the one-piece torso, please do share :)

    56. I prefer the knot in the torso. It needs to be low enough that it doesn't pull up into the neck or down into the hip joint or any other tight spots in the body. So...

Lay the body out with all the pieces in place. For these directions I will assume the head/neck is to the left. Have a piece of thin ribbon or strong string handy.

Double the loop over your left thumb and the two feet ends over the fingers of your right hand. Stretch the elastic out over the body so you can see where the knot will be. Adjust until you like the position of the knot. Loop or tie the ribbon tightly at the neck point.

Thread the elastic through the torso leg holes and pull the ribbon up through the neck. I would clamp the ribbon to hold it If you don't pull it all the way up now it is easier to put the feet on.

String the elastic through the legs and put the feet on.

Finally pull the elastic up through the neck.

    57. The wait is killing me quq please ship him already~ Does anyone have the problem where you keep buying things for your doll before they ship? Because I'm on like a huge buying spree right now trying to wait for him...

    58. Thanks so much for taking the time to write all that out for me! That's really helpful. I have a fresh set of string on its way to me and as soon as it arrives I'll be having another go at putting my girl back together. Definitely be referring to this when I do!

    59. @SugarBenki: My bank account is usually pretty spent after I buy a new doll, so no shopping sprees here. XD That certainly doesn't stop me from going on a crafting spree though! Wigs, clothes, props, etc. It's hard when I'm buying a new size, but I already own an SD17 who's helping me properly scale stuff for the new boys. (I finally ordered a Fall and Spring.) What sort of things are you buying?
