I am smitten with the Happy boys - I would love to see BLANK sculpts, hybrids, the new body, old heads on the new body, etc.. Also, girl heads on the boy body! Or just spam us with teh pretty.
I've totally fallen for the Happy sculpts as well! Here are some pictures of Larina boy hybrids: Julian on Dollmore boy body by Wolfboy141, on Flickr Larina on Dollmore (NS) body Julian on Soom Little Gem body by Wolfboy141, on Flickr Larina head on Soom body (Cream White). More pictures can be found elsewhere in this thread, like in post #39 Julian, Soom WS body Close up of blank Larina head And with half finished face-up as it is now (though he recently got new, lighter eyes): Julian, Soom WS body by Wolfboy141 I lightened his face to match the body by using white pastel, along with a few coats of MSC. Also added some pinkish tones in several accent places on the body. Have ordered Adela and Owain, so can hopefully post more in a few weeks, including pictures of the new DIM boy body!
Jullis head (or so I'm told, it came free when I ordered Alpon from DDE and there was no indication of whose head it was exactly). Head by Jen Savage, on Flickr It's currently off to Meggilu awaiting a face-up.
HARLECH arrived a few hours ago! He's terribly cute and tiny compared to my other MSD's, which I'm incredibly happy about, because now I won't have to wait for Iplehouse to (finally) come out with their KID line I'll post pictures of his body in the following days, but here are some pictures of him trying on different wigs. DiM Harlech by Wolfboy141, on Flickr 1. 7-8 inch Dollmore Transfor Cut in Red Brown 2. 7-8 inch Dollmore Haul wig in Carrot (more brown than carrot) 3. 6-7 inch Monique Buttercup in Golden Auburn/Strawberry 4. 6-6,5 inch Leeke LR 006, in Goldenrod 5. D.I.M. 6-7 inch wig 6. Custom House Little Junior wig 7. 6-6,5 inch Leeke LR 006 in Eve Cream 8. 6-7 inch Monique Hannah, in Carrot Edited, as switched to upload from Flickr.
Thanks, Thessalyrose! My little-switched-at-birth Harlech is wearing a Leekeworld goldenrod LR-006 in 6-6,5 inch in this picture. DiM Harlech by Wolfboy141, on Flickr I couldn't work out which wig and color before, but now that I'm really sure it's Harlech instead, I think I like either this one or the very first one most for him. Also depends on whether when Owain's head gets here, he'll be blonde or redheaded. (Otherwise he'll get the wig you like most.)
OH! I forgot I'd promised to post a photo of Ryan (Jullis) all finished. Here he is, with Livia (Luria)! Ryan and Livia by Jen Savage, on Flickr
I don't suppose anyone has both new boy bodies and can do a side by side comparison, I'd really love to see them standing beside each other.
At the moment I still only have the new boy and girl bodies. But I'm now pretty sure that Livia is the same size as DIM's Adela, so maybe this picture might give you an idea how much smaller the new boys are: Harlech and Adela by Wolfboy141, on Flickr Hopefully I'll be able to take better comparison pictures this weekend, but here's one of Larina, Harlech and Adela sitting next to eachother: Larina's head is a bit smaller than Adela's. And their feet (Julian/Larina is on a Soom Little Gem boy body).
Some comparison pics: DIM Harlech with a DIM Larina head (blushed to match a Soom Cream White body!) on a Planetdoll 41 cm normal yellow body (from late 2010/early 2011! Their earlier normal yellow was yellower). The lighting in my room wasn't great (and it was already dark outside), which made the PD body look yellower than IRL. Note: PD's present (Yellow) Normal will probably be a better match than their current new Pink Normal IMO! (The latter is actually closer to the color you see in the pics!) (with flash, but IRL the PD body is a lot less yellow and even has a soft pink in it!) CH Little Junior body with DM Pado head - DIM Harlech on V2 body - Planetdoll 41 cm Katie - DIM Adela on new immature body Next 4 are all without flash, indoor lighting: More of Harlech (on DiM V2 body) with Larina/PD 41 cm body hybrid (face blushed to match Soom CW) Tomorrow I'll see if natural light can offer a more accurate image of the PD/DIM skin tone match. It's certainly not as bad as it looks in most pics here. The PD white skin might be an idea as well, considering the light pink color of DIM resin. PD's white is really paper white though, so you'd need to do some more blushing than with a Soom CW hybrid. (Just spraying the Larina head with a few layers of MSC got me pretty close already.) Added natural light pictures: Unblushed back of the Larina head on PD 41 body. You can somewhat make out how the front (faceplate) including the back of the ears, has been blushed lighter to match the CW Soom body this head is normally on. And then the sun came out!
Jullis and Owain with 13mm and 15mm Eyeco eyes Jullis with 13mm eyes (Dresden) and with 15mm eyes (Dreamy Blue): DiM Jullis, Eyeco eyes Owain has one of the smallest D.I.M. Happy heads. (There is quite a variety of sizes. By rule of thumb: the newer the head sculpt, the smaller it will be. I'll post a comparison of heads at a later date.) His '14mm size' eyes, as it says on the D.I.M. site, are slightly smaller than Jullis' 14 mm size eyes: 15mm Eyeco eyes, Dresden DiM Owain 13mm Eyeco eyes, also Dresden (I'd started on the first part of his face up in the last 2, but it's still hardly visible.)
Jullis' head on Ver2 size boy body (42 cm instead of the 47,5 cm Ver1). Jullis on ver2 body by Wolfboy141, on Flickr It's not impossible I suppose, but the head is somewhat on the large side for the body. (Oh, and the faceplate fits a lot better than it shows here: a bit of the string was pushing it away, I only noticed it later, because I was in such a hurry to take a load of pictures while there was still enough light.) Luria's head fits a lot better on the small boy body than Jullis' does. (picture in post #21) As I mentioned in my previous post, there is a big variety in D.I.M. Happy head size. I'll post more on this in the future, but I can already give you a list according to size from smallest to largest from what I've found out from my heads so far: A) Owain, Harlech, (Yvaine probably) & Miru, (Adina probably) & Laia and Larina: 7 inch Harlech, Miru, : exactly 7 inch (18 cm) Owain: 7 1/8 inch (18.2 cm) His facial features make him fit in with the smallest Happy heads best, despite his measurements. Laia: 6 3/4 inch (17 cm) Larina: 6 7/8 inch (17.5 cm) I've found they take 6-7 inch wigs best, but opinions seem to vary on this. If you 'loosen up' smaller 6-7 (or 6-6,5 Leeke) wigs, they work fine (and often better than 7-8 inch ones in my opinion.) I use 7-8" ForMyDoll wigs for them though. Benetia's head is ca. 18.3cm, but her facial features make her look smaller, like Annabeth and Gayane (both 18cm) so these all look like they're actually closer in size to the heads in group A) than B). Especially when compared with Alpon. B) Luria: I have a 6-7 Monique wig on her, but it will only just work (with a thin headcap made from a balloon to keep it from being catapulted off), she's more a 7-8 inch. Luria's head circumference is 7 inch (18 cm) as well, but her face has slightly broader features than the heads in A). Alpon's head is also 18cm. His facial features are broader than Luria's, which makes his head seem even a bit bigger when next to heads with smaller features like the one's in group A). C) Adela (and probably Meriel) (who were the first to be able to go on both girl bodies according to D.I.M.): A definite size 7-8 wig for her! Adela's head circumference is 7.5 inch (19 cm). Adela's head is a LOT bigger than the smallest heads, both in size as well as appearance. (Her head is closer to Jullis' and Ace's.) D) Jullis and Ace: 19.5cm (7 5/8 inch) Benetia and Annabeth heads next to eachother. Other posts in this thread, like #28 , #35 and #162 have pictures which might help get an idea of the differences in size.
He's cute kedrian! Will you join us and spam more of him in the D.I.M. Happy thread, here? It would be great to see more of the older/sold out sculpts there too! As promised in my previous post, here are some pictures of Luria on the Ver2 boy body. DiM Luria boy by Wolfboy141, on Flickr And another (combined) picture next to Jullis to show the difference in head size between the 2: As I've got 2 ver2 boy bodies, I'll see if I can add some pictures of more simultanious head combinations on that body. For who's interested in a Dollstown hybrid, here's one of Laia (7 inch head) on the DT 7yr body, freshskin. (Standing next to Jullis on ver1 boy body, and Harlech on ver2 body.): This body is 46 cm tall (with a DT head), and the small 7 inch D.I.M. head makes it look more like SD proportions than a small child, as DT 7 yr heads are a full inch (or even more) larger. The 5 yr old smaller body (42 cm with head) is made to go with larger heads as well. Here's a link to a picture of a DT Momo (7.9 inch head) on the 5 and 7 yr DT body to give you an idea of the size difference between those bodies.
If anyone at all has a new boy body version 1 and 2 and can do a side by side comparison (I'm mostly interested in seeing how they look standing side by side), that would be awesome. I have a funny feeling no one has both boy bodies though...
More comparison pictures of the 2 D.I.M. Happy boy bodies: Harlech and Jullis comparison by Wolfboy141, on Flickr Little (ver2 body) and Large (ver1). Head comparisons to follow...
O.O I had no idea the new body was so much shorter than the old one! Look at the cute widdle feet! How tall is the new body, with a head? The old one was 45cm, as I recall?
The new (ver2) body is 42 cm with head, the older body 47,5 cm. Actually, the old body has really widdle feet too, I was surprised how close in size they actually are: when I opened my Jullis' box, it was one of the first things that caught my attention. I corrected the 'groups' I made in post #22, and added precise measurements of the heads to give a better idea of the size difference between D.I.M Happy heads. Here are some more pictures to give an idea as well: Jullis and Harlech DiM head sizes by Wolfboy141, on Flickr Luria, Jullis, Harlech, Larina It was hard to make a good comparison with Luria, because the neck of the body she's on (CH Junior) needs some modding to get it to fit better. I can hardly get the head to pose at all. Because of the position it is in, you can't really tell the actual size, because the head is tilted back so much. But like the other heads, the forehead is higher than you can see here. ARGhhh guess I'll need to take some more pictures then. And add comparisons with Adela on the new (immature) girl body and the boys, plus more heads. Don't know when yet though...
Thank you so much for those photos. I've been dying to see the two boy bodies next to one another. I really appreciate it.
Wolfboy, could I impose on your generosity just a little more and ask for comparison pictures with the Soom body? And are the Dollmore and Soom bodies you pictured normal skin?
Glad to have helped out! Good thing I took an extra long power nap this afternoon! I'll try to take some tomorrow, as it's already dark here now. The Dollmore body is NS, the Soom body is Cream White. In the last picture of my previous post you can already see one comparison picture with the lighter blushed Larina head on the CW Soom body next to 2 'full' D.I.M kids. (Luria is on a Custom House body.) Maybe I should have made my crew bathrobes instead of normal clothes considering the amount of times they've had to get undressed for pictures lately
Sorry, can't help out with DC bodies, but here are some more D.I.M Happy comparisons with Dollmore NS, Custom House NS (2009/10?) and Soom Cream Skin: Laia/DM body - DM Pado/CH Little Junior body - Owain - Larina/Soom body - Harlech - Adela Notice how much larger Adela's head is than the later D.I.M Happy sculpts? (And how small the DM Pado head is! It's a lot smaller than the DM Vian head I have and even smaller than all the D.I.M heads; that's why I put it on such a tiny body.) Laia/DM hybrid - Owain - Larina/Soom hybrid - Harlech - Adela - Jullis If you look closely, you can also see the difference between the lightened Larina faceplate on the Soom CS body (extra spraying with MSC also helped) compared to the untouched headback in these pictures. Hope this helps
http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...*-*Doll-Chateau-DiM*&highlight=Larina+chateau this one is a Larina chateau hybrid - just in case you missed it.
I looking for hybrids of D.I.M heads on male bodies about 44-45cm tall (with head, of course) The old body is too tall and the new body is too short... Something between, please!! Thank you all!
Gine: Yeah, the old body is pretty big, and can share trousers with Dollstown 7 year bodies. Love the fact that I can stick to MSD's with that larger body, but still get a more SD look if I want. I find this size so much easier to handle and make things for photoshoots etc. for, without taking up lots of precious space. Beth Cullen: any specific D.I.M. head that your looking to find a body for? If it's for one of the bigger boy heads, you might like the 45cm Planetdoll body.
Hi Luckyl, any body in particular that you've got in mind? I can take some pics of an Alpon head on a Dollstown 7 year boy body, which in size is comparable to the girl body...
Hi Wolfboy! Oh yes please! I would love to see an Alpon head on a 7 year Dollstown body! Do you know if the elf body is the same size as the 7 yr body or taller? I would like to keep the body in the 45+ cm range since I just bought a DIM Julis on ebay that is on the old 47 cm body and I want the girl Alpon to be about the same height, if possible.
The elf body is quite a bit larger at 52 cm with a DT head that is also larger than Alpon's head. Here are links to the elf body and 7 year old body measurements. OK, then you'd probably want the smaller 7 year old DT body, not just for size, but also for how the head will look on the body: DT heads are larger than any other MSD heads I know of. I'll do my best taking some pics of Alpon's head on the 7 yr old body for you this weekend . Have to say though, that the Jullis head is probably better suited as a girl than Alpon (I've got both) as his mouth and nose are less masculine. If you like Alpon, maybe you'd like to take a closer look at Luria too who probably resembles Alpon closest of any of the DIM girls. As I have her too, I'll add some pics of her on a 7 yr old body anyway as well.
Thank you so much for the valuable information. I will definitely need the 7 year old body then. I look forward to seeing your photos of Luria and especially Alpon on the 7 yr body. I am looking for a match for a specific character (Isabelle from Hugo movie) so need full lips and pointy chin with kind of semi- masculine features. I figured I would probably need to mod the ears, nose width, and face shape a bit to make it more feminine, but I am always open to new ideas.
Oh WOW, that's really interesting, I wasn't aware of that movie before, thanks! I checked this site for the movie, and it even looks like the girl character is a bit taller than the boy character. But I can also see now why the Alpon sculpt might work for the girl character, unless you really wanted a slightly larger girl on a DT elf body after all (a DIM Love girl like Kassia or Belosse). I'll take the pictures I can for you, of the heads on the 7yr bodies later this weekend!
Glad you think so after checking it out! Yes, the girl is taller than the boy, but I had to spring for a good deal on the Julis on the 47 cm body. Do you think a 52 cm would be a good height difference for what I am looking for? I did see an elf body with a Kassia head in another thread and it looked great, so if you think the size difference between 47 and 52 would give me a good match, I can start looking over DIM SD size heads that would work. I have owned a Kassia and Bellose and loved them, but would probably go for an elif this time and do some mods on him, if needed.
Seems pretty good to me, of course that's coming from someone who's never seen a DT elf body with (DIM?) head in person before! But yeah, maybe it's also good to know that Jullis is actually 47.5 cm tall: sometimes those numbers behind the digit really make a difference as well
Thanks for another helpful bit of info! So nice to have you around today! I should have my boy by early next week, so should be able to compare him to a 58 cm and 61 cm size doll as well as a Soom MSD to get some perspective on how it would look, but I bet you are right. The 1.7 inch difference would be an appropriate height difference for Hugo and Isabelle. I have always wanted a Dollstown Elf body anyway...this is definitely exciting that my dream might be coming to fruition!
Thank you too! I'm now reallly intrigued by the movie, more so as I think the Jullis sculpt really works for the boy part. I'm close to ordering the DVD, apart from the minor holdback that I've only found a pretty pricy one up until now, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the movie soon! The version with Alpon might still work, but then you'd really need to get (or make!) the body some impressive high heeled shoes...
Here's another picture from the movie you might like size wise (2nd trailer picture): http://www.bol.com/nl/p/dvd/hugo/1002004012049700/index.html#product_images
Thanks! Those are a great size. I am thrilled you agree that Jullis is a good match for Hugo. I hope you get to see the movie, personally, I loved it! (As if you did'nt know that already!) I was thinking about the high heeled shoes too, if I opt to go mini size. It would be nice to have their heads close in size, just with Isabelle a bit taller, but I may have to go with the bigger body to really get the size definition I need. The Jullis head looks huge in photos, so it will be interesting to put it next to some SD size heads to get a comparison.
Hugo is a beautiful movie; it should have gotten better publicity. When I came out of it, my husband said, "That little boy reminded me of your doll, Sebastian." I was floored! Who knew he paid so much attention to my dolls??? (I think he was responding to the coloring more than the sculpt; Sebastian is a Petite Ai from Customhouse.) But I could totally see Jullis as an MSD version of Hugo.
Just for future reference, my Laia [here on the Unoa girl body, horrible resin match] I plan on getting her a WS Ariadoll 7yrs body after seeing this pic here of a Laia/Ariadoll hybrid
Comparison between D.I.M. Happy Alpon, Jullis (on ver2 boy bodies, in total 47.5 cm) and the Dollstown 7 year old body: DT mini Elysia (fresh skin)- DIM Alpon - DIM Jullis The DT doll is 45 cm, and since the DIM heads are smaller, you will lose a bit more length with an Alpon-DT hybrid: Alpon on DT 7 body next to Jullis (who was still wobbly here because I needed to tighten his strings) Seated, they're the same height. So the height difference in the DIM ver2 body is all in the legs. Notice as well how much longer the DIM neck is compared to the DT body! (Maybe another way to lessen the height difference somewhat Luckyl.) Sitting here as well. Extra picture of Jullis next to the DT 7 body with an Aria Valentine (WS) SD head to give you a size indication of that too: Haven't found a comparison picture of the DT 7 and elf body yet, but it might work to even put the Alpon head on the latter (the neck should be fine). At least that way they'll have the same size heads, and the girl will be only slightly taller: as the DT heads are larger, she'll be less than the 52 cm of a full DT Elf girl. For a girl character older than the boy (Hugo), the somewhat smaller head than the original DT heads might actually be a bonus as well in making her look more her age. Hope this helps, Luckyl!
First at all WOW all your boys and girls are so gorgeous. You guys make me felt in love with DIM dolls so much. Congrats for owning such beautiful little guys and girls. I'm planning to put a happy girl head on a boy body V2. Do you guys know if I do that I will need to make modifications to the neck or head to be able to make the head fit?? Thank you for you help in advance
I mentioned this in the other thread but for the sake of having the info here as well, I have a Miru head on a V2 boy body and did not have to make any modifications for it to fit.
The body is normal skin, not sure if the current RS normal skin resin is the same though. The body was made in 2010 and it hasn't yellowed much (not as much as the head I got with it anyway). Luria's head is sprayed with MSC which made the resin a little bit lighter (I think). The funny thing is Luria head is now a better match than the original Mei head... Another picture:
I don't have any of the elves, but here's one of the other older heads, my Benetia boy: The head fits perfectly, and actually even poses better on the boy V2 body than the Owain and Harlech heads. This because the range of movement when looking up and down is better.
Wolfboy, thank you so much for posting these pictures not only in the discussion thread, but also here! =) Now what I'd really like to see is a simple comparison shot of a boy with a v2 body and other MSD-sized dolls. Preferably a slim Mini like a Minifee, but any comparison will do. Boy or girl isn't important here, I'd just like to know how the proportions are.
My pleasure, Reika! I can't help you with a Minifee, but did you see post #39? There both Owain and Harlech on V2 boy bodies are standing beside a Soom boy body (with Larina head), and at the beginning of the row (left side) there's a Laia head on a Dollmore body. (For extra reference: Adela on the far right is on the DiM new immature body.) Also, in post #20 you can see a 41 cm Planetdoll Katie standing between Harlech on the V2 body and Adela on the new immature body. Not a Minifee, but a smaller MSD in any case. NandaClara: Here's a pic of Adela on a Dollmore boy body: The DiM and DM body are actually pretty close in size overall, DM is slightly taller. The DM neck is a bit slimmer though, so for more range of movement sueding might help, but the body does work for this larger DiM Happy head too. Sorry, VampireAngel 13, I haven't got a Latidoll boy body to try out an Ace or other DiM head for you, but for anyone who does!
Here's my DIM Alpon Head next to my Dollzone Megi Head (Heavily Modded) I'll try and get some more comps in the coming months because I have three three full sized dolls from different companies and then this modded head from a different company as well.
Hello I was wondering if there were some comparison shots around of the two girl bodies. I'm a bit put off by the height and bulkiness of the one I've been seeing.
Sorry Catalystflowers, can't help with comparisons of the girl bodies. But did you know DiM has a third girl body (link) too? New picture I've taken of DiM and Planetdoll resin comparison: This was new PD normal (yellow) with fairly new (from 2012) DiM resin, and over time as both resins mellow the match gets a little better, though the PD will remain darker. An image of the 3 PlanetDoll skintones: Planetdoll WS, Normal (Yellow) and Normal Pink Riz heads Top row is the picture I adjusted from the original image in the bottom row (not my own, link to source), in an attempt to get closer to the actual colours. It's hard to get a good idea from the original image, as the dolls I had fell right between the NY and NP. It's still not perfect, but from this I'm now sure my PD dolls are indeed (the present) normal (yellow) and not the new normal pink. I'd love to see pictures of DiM with the Planetdoll Normal Pink!
a little comparison by robin-blackthorn, on Flickr Here is a little comparison of "grown-up vs childish" proportions for DIM happy heads (girls here, if it's not obvious . On the left is D.I.M. Annabeth on Dollstown elf body (I planned her as a teenager, so I chose a taller body with broader shoulders than your average msd). On the right is D.I.M. Laia on Pipos PO13 body (planned as a child). The color match is close to perfect for pipos and not-so-perfect for dollstown (freshskin). Still, in real life dollstown matches better than what you see on this photo, especially if the head is unpainted (I have overdone her blushing a little, too much pink).
Just here to show my Gayane, her name is Feather, she's on her own Happy Girl body, I like it, it's a sturdy but graceful body Feather by stellamaris61, on Flickr
Laia heads on Dollmore KiD (boy) and DiM Happy "immature" or "new" girl body: It might be good to add here, that the Dollmore girl and boy bodies are the same height, and aren't very different in sculpt, other than a few obvious little bits here and there . The DMK combination is slightly taller when standing, but it's probably less than 0.5mm from what I can tell. When sitting down, the DiM combination seems slightly taller, which makes sense, because as you can maybe tell from the pictures (more noticible irl though, sorry for the crappy pics), the DMK legs are quite a bit longer. Also, the DMK body is hard to get to sit upright on a flat surface, which can make it look even smaller, both because of the upper body's tendency to go into a slump, as well as because of the fact that the body and legs won't really help sit up straight either. This has to do with the way the legs fit in the sockets, as well as with the fact that the DMK body doesn't have the extra thigh joint that the DiM body does have. One other thing is that IMO the DMK neck looks nicer for the smaller DiM Happy heads, like Laia. The DiM neck could be better with a bit of sanding, and not just for aesthetics, but also to help the head look to the left, though it does pose a bit better than the DMK hybrid as things are now. A bit of sueding might help for the DMK hybrid, because without doing anything, the head has a tendency to jolt back. As for posing abilities, both bodies have their plusses and minusses. Personally, apart from the cute slump the DMK body has, I'd probably prefer the DiM body, as it holds poses a bit better and also has a bigger range because of the thigh joints.
Another picture of my Larina head (face whitened too match Soom CS) on the planetdoll 41cm B body. This is "older" PD normal (from 2011), which was a slightly less yellow version of their present "Normal" skintone. For a hybrid with a DiM head you could pretty much go with either the present PD pink normal or normal, whatever you prefer, and over time either of the 2 PD skintones will match better as the resins from both companies loose some of their pink tones. At first, the PD pink normal would basically be a darker pink than your DiM head, therefor probably the easiest of the PD skintones to match up with your head straight away, if you get both head and body at the same time. While this is what a fairly new DiM head (only slightly less pink than upon arrival, and with a hint of yellow in the resin) next to what still very new PD normal looks like. From my most recent DiM orders (late 2012, 2013, early 2014), it seems like they might have added a teeny tiny bit of yellow into the mix. This, because with time, these heads tend to mellow into a slightly different cream color than my older heads/dolls. -> My earlier DiM dolls mellowed into a more pinkish white cream color. While in comparison, over time the newer ones seem to have a "warmer" tone to them, which is actually quite close to mellowed D-C pink. DiM Miru head with Doll-Chateau pink body and iplehouse JID girl fist hands (NS)
My Larina and Annabeth are on a DZ boy body B45-010 (normal-pink) and the size is perfect. I have some more pics of them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/insomniadoll/sets/72157635322373845/with/10722461375/ Zoe! by Insomniadoll, on Flickr Trap by Insomniadoll, on Flickr
