Your favorite doll characteristics?

So what's YOUR faveorite facial feature on your doll or Grail?

I love dolls with all kinds of facial features, but the female ones with thinner lips and slightly narrowed, but still open(vaguely Asian? Not fully though if that makes sense...? Sly or Sexy.) eyes are my absolute favorites! The FairyLand Liria doll faces are gorgeous, and I've seen many with both thicker and thinner looking lips (faceups and mods are awesome) and she's my fave faceup from FL.

Does anyone know what brand makes dolls like this? What about YOUR favorite dolls, and what makes them your favorite? Do they match your OC perfectly or what would you change about it to make it perfect?

Haha, wish I could help you find a doll like that, but I don’t pay much attention to female sculpts. This is a fun prompt, though! One thing that makes me like a doll the first time I see it is vampire teeth and *subtly* tipped ears. It’s what made me fall in love with my boy Rizoel, who’s a Mystic Kids Tremmel. However, I couldn’t pinpoint a favorite facial feature on my actual grail doll. I didn’t like his tipped ears the first time I saw them; they were nearly a deal breaker, but now I sort of like them on other dolls because they remind me of him. The main thing that drew me to him was because it seemed like fate that Ringdoll should release him—Ashford EVO, a militant vampire—at the exact time when I was trying to find the perfect sculpt for my vampire prince character. He’s just a gorgeous doll all around, especially with the company face up.

 

I absolutely love thicker lips on dolls!! My grail is definitely a DC Evangeline one day. The lidded eyes and everything, yes!!!
I also really enjoy dolls that are sort of... ugly? Haha. I cannot think of any off of the top of my head, but dolls with wide-set eyes, or ones that are just generally creepy? I have an Impldoll Yves and she's SO cute to me, but I know lots of people find the sculpt freaky! The teeth are everything to me though.

 

I'm always on the lookout for dolls with cute teeth showing!!! And not just slightly parted lips with a flat area between. I'm talking prominent sculpted teeth. I love them so much, they're so cute. Not enough sculpts have them so I always add some teeth if there's any room for them.

Also, my grail dolls DC Snowborn and DZ Benjamin both have adorable long noses.

I can't really explain why those features in particular appeal to me so much, but I think they both help depict sort of an exaggerated character. Also I feel like they make my dolls look nerdier and a bit more flawed/less "perfect".

 

I have a wide range of unusual sculpts in my collection and I can't say that there's honestly much to tie them together looks wise.

I do know though, that I'm drawn to narrowed eyes, overly large or almost non-existent noses and any sculpt with things protruding from it's head.

 

Fragile, twiggy models with sensuous, sedate glares, masking the pain. Broken girly girls, etc.; nothing is more attractive or relatable to me.

 

Wings. I shelled out for Dollzone Gene, doll chateau Zenobia, F60 Erda, and now that new 1/3 dream valley doll, all because of wings, and most of my dolls are getting wings added to them.

Boobs. Realistic boobs. Twigling, and the doll chateau y-06 kind of stylized but still realistic kind of bodies. I’m talking myself into/out of a pieta with the smallest bust because that is also a weakness. Small boobs (who’d have thought, cause in real life I’d love for mine to be bigger...) the dollstown 18 yrs is also a tall girl, with nice small boobs, and wow. That’s exactly what I need. Specifically tall female sculpts are just nice.

Fantasy colours. Blue, red, obsidian, paper white with the right faceup, Dark purple. So few of my characters are human, and this means I can make the ones I have any colour I want. Also tan resin. Some companies just have a really, really nice tan (soom tawny, FL tan, AS tan, etc.) and anything in Dollshe Honey resin. Like Caramel tan is gorgeous. Honey sapphire is everything I’ve ever wanted.

Slimmer male bodies. Sure some of my guys are more masculine, but I just want men that aren’t massive sometimes. I’m not personally attracted to men, so I’m just shelling characters, and most of my characters aren’t a level 20 barbarian (one is tho!) so most of them don’t need to be that huge.

Horns, tails, fin legs, hooves, claws, other fantasy bits and such. I just love nonhuman characters. That snake-demon by miracledoll is also beautiful and o do want him, I just don’t have a character...

Mature sculpts. All of my characters are of age. I don’t have any of the children from when they were children (one of them is the daughter of two other characters, but her doll is from when she’s like 19-20). I’m not into writing children, and I’ve got no maternal onstinct to speak of, so I just...like my dolls to be adults. Some of them look young-ish (f60 Erda) But they all have to look at least old enough that they pass for 18-ish. Ironically, that Erda is 226, but looks 17-18-ish?

 

My favorite attributes would be tongues, smaller, sly, or mature eyes, and slim bodies. I really like these on male dolls because I'm just really fascinated by those attributes. They look mature, handsome, and in some cases, very aesthetically pleasing!

 

I really love shiny full lips, as well as long fingernails. I like painting my dolls’ nails and having pretty nails and toe nails makes it easy and visible. I also love it when a doll has a more defined yet subtle facial expression like a scowl or a smirk!

 

I have a slightly weird criterion here, but if a doll is a vampire they should have showing teeth with an open mouth. Then I'm sold.
Other than than, I like goth fashion. And the more detail on a doll, the better! My Souldoll Janne is totally not what I'd typically like but her hands are so beautiful that I've held on to her for years...

 

There's so many things I love. But the one thing that is an absolute must is that they have to look/seem happy. There's something about upset dolls that really bother me. But I love their thin elegant hands, fantasy sparkly eyes- especially in pink or unrealistic colors, and fantasy elements like horns or wings.

 

It is so interesting to read what everyone is drawn too! I had no idea so many people loved teeth. Teeth are probably my biggest deal-breaker, I find them sooo creepy for some reason. I really like dolls with neutral expressions, like open to interpretation. My dolls are part of my writing process so if a doll looks all one way, like happy all the time, that makes it harder to envision the character feeling a spectrum of emotions, if that makes sense. Lately I'm drawn to unusual, romantic, interesting sculpts, like Doll Chateau. Broad nose-bridges, thin wrist joints, and I like a prominent brow and jaw on the guys.

 

A longish oval face! I'm not one for very round faces, I also like small eyes.

 

* A semblance of realism. It doesn't have to be a portrait sculpt, but I find that I appreciate smaller eyes and larger, more realistic noses more than highly stylized faces.

* I like softer face-ups for the most part, but I've always liked pale lashes, which can tend towards a more "fantasy" look.

* A more serious look. This one surprises me, because most of the dolls I've gravitated towards in other hobbies have been quite cheerful looking. However, every bjd I currently own (or am in the process of buying) has either a serious expression, or a downright somber look.

 

i have found that my fave bjd's are fairyland bjd's i just ike there faces a lot. i think they are really cute. i prefer spiritdoll body's though, i like tall skinny bodies. i also everything about lillycat cerisedolls and merrydollround. they are beautiful.

 

I prefer more realistic dolls, with slimmer eyes and natural resin colors (natural skin, light tan).

I have thought about branching into fantasy sculpts/resin colors but I have yet to make that leap. White skin might work for my aesthetic but we'll see! The biggest eye sculpt I have is a Angel Fantasy Alice and I think those are the biggest eyes I can handle, haha!

 

I'm all about the hands, I love to see long elegant fingers and hands when considering a doll. I actually used to hate DollChateau but now I've fallen in love with the slender aesthetic.

 

I like smiling dolls,especially if they show teeth. I have three smiling/teeth dolls in my collection,and would love to add a Popo Lulu to it. She has the cutest doll teeth ever.

 

For my own "collection" such as it is, pose-ability and stability. What appeals to me most is the ability to tell stories, and for me story happens spontaneously. I fly from one pic to the next as Wiishu or Pooki tells me what they're thinking or doing and there's no time to stop and delicately balance or wire or whatever. For the same reason...storytelling...the Shiwoo face was perfect because the expression is so malleable. I find great pleasure in looking at dolls with extreme expressions, but it's limiting for storytelling. And hands. The multiple hand options and easy on/off of the fairyland dolls is another huge plus.

Oh! Weight. Another point in the smaller dolls' favor, at least for me. Wiishu travels with me and his stories help me remember places I've been and things I've done. He tucks into my purse without breaking my shoulder. MSD and larger are just too large and heavy to be a doll equivalent of a traveling gnome.

That being said, I'm fascinated by the larger dolls, and realistic male sculpts appeal aesthetically...cheekbones, jawlines and noses...I like a gestalt that says character, but it's doubtful I'll ever spring for one, simply because for me they'd just be beautiful setabouts. I love making costumes and it would be fun (and easier!) to dress some of the larger dolls, but Wiishu is such a clothes-horse, there aren't enough hours in the day.

All I can say is, thank goodness for DoA where we can enjoy all the variety!

i love big glittery eyes with a fiery passion... but honestly, what really gets me is the "ski jump nose" some dolls have ^^' i just love a doll with a pointy nose! theyre so cute!

 

I like weird looking bjd's, elongated bodies like what Doll Chateau has, and eyes that curve down. I also like eyes that are more realistic and detailed.

 

I like all things that make the dolls look teenage and innocent, which helps when adorning in gloomy fashions. The contrast between innocence and darkness thrills me So, turned up or anyhow delicate noses, full lips, round bellies (not too visible waistlines) and small, protruding breasts. Oh, yeah, and I'm into female dolls only. If already, I like milky blond guys with super long eyelashes.

 

Teeth.
I feel I always go towards dolls with really cute fangs popping out! Some other things I always find myself focusing on is eye shape, lips (such as the curves & smiling), and oof...tongues too. Oh, and those hands? To die for. There's so much...

 

Teeth... and hands. and feet... I fall for several details too. (veins, lovely nails, etc) I chose Universe doll body for my boy because I fell in love with its hands... It can't be too realistic or too muscled. I like IOS for the sculpts between anime and reality. And some weirdness is a must have for me.

 

I didn't realize how much hands mattered to me until I got a doll whose hands I couldn't stand. Facial features seem to matter less to me than expression. Smiling, thoughtful, serious, even melancholy is fine...but I had one who looked downright sad all the time that I couldn't bond with. I also realized that seam lines detract from my ability to enjoy a doll. I've been kind of slow to realize what I'm drawn to, but through working out qualities I like and dislike, I'm getting closer to understand what works for me. Proportion, natural posing, elegant/natural hands, quality craftsmanship (flaws can add quirks and be enjoyable but blatant quality control issues detract from my enjoyment), and, more nebulously, an expression that is either soothing or evokes creative thought.

 

-mature male and realistic head-sculpts with a natural eye-size (usually small iris), grey and white hair and realistic proportions of the body
-I am not into the cute look and almost all my characters are adults
-Hands! I's like them to have realistic proportions as well and I love jointed hands, if I could, everyone of my dolls would have jointed hands xD

Hands for me! I love detailed, elegantly sculpted hands and I think they can really bring a doll to life. This is a big reason why I don't go for jointed hands, despite their greater poseability, because they're never as detailed and convincing as I'd like. In fact, I disliked my Mystic Kids QingChen's big, awkward yaoi hands so much that I replaced them; that's how important hands are to me. And I bought a Universe Doll body with extra hands because I love the way they sculpt their hands so much.

 

I love elf ears, though all of my dolls don't have elf ears.

 

I don't know.. Hmmm
I really like dolls with a more human feel to them? Not completely realistic but I like when I can imagine them as real humans without being freaked out :00... but also just dolls that look like a feeling? If that makes sense? A doll that may look sad, peacfull, happy or angry and not just looking out without any expression what so ever.

 

Wide/sad looking eye sockets, glittery eyes with no pupils, fluffy looking hair, pouty lips, curvier body types, and pretty hands are definitely all things that get my attention.

 

oh i love dolls that are pale tall and slender but toned, horns, white long hair, dainty hands,claw hands, black eyes with red iris's, pale eyes, gory/creepy face ups, white/black contrast, toned tan,. i love fantasy/creepy/demon/angel aesthetics with my dolls and i always get excited when i find dolls that fit it

 

Below are a list of my favourite doll characteristics that I'd like to see more of!
1) Well sculpted muscles on boy dolls bodies (as opposed to thin bodies with protruding ribs - not really my cup of tea)
2) Teeth! So cute!
3) Shapely plump lips
4) Asian, African or any other ethnic features - I used to think ethnic groups are underrepresented in the doll hobby, but now I am seeing much more dolls with ethnic features!

 

I love Vampires, creepy dolls, dark make-up, dragon eyes... Lolita or Gothic Outfits, elegant hands and posing options, long legs...

 

Super pouty girls are my weakness. I'm not sure why but sad or big pouty lips always get me lol.

 

As for girls I like full lips,opened mouth and not so big eyes, a little bit dreamy look

I am a total sucker for "pear shaped" dolls. Especially if the body is just a bit more extreme than what you'd see in real life. I just think it's such a cute shape!

 

My tastes are wide and varied, as I tend to go with "I see a pretty, I want a pretty" mindset... that being said, below are some of my favorite features (in no particular order):

• Elf ears
• Detailed bestial ears (cat, deer, etc.)
• Detailed ears in general
• Unique noses (aquiline, African, broken, etc.)
• High cheeks combined with hollow cheeks - a la Granado Uranus

• Strange, unusual, fae, or alien proportions - Doll Chateau bodies are among my favorites
• Additional body parts (eyes, limbs, etc.)
• Scars
• Animal legs
• Realistic centaur bodies
• Wings (feathered or otherwise)
• Detailed hands
• Hands with long fingers
• Hands with expressive positions
• High-heel feet
• High-heel feet for male dolls
• Well-sculpted Adonis belt (hip muscles)
• Realistic breasts (can be realistic in a corset or otherwise)
• Beefy, muscular men
• Beefy, muscular women

 

I like doll'men with pointy noses, dark hair and green eyes,
for girls' dolls I like plump hips and small breasts, brown hair and gray eyes
my personal beauty ideals =)

 

Tall slender boys with dreamy eyes and pouty lips, high cheekbones would be a bonus

 

I am a sucker for elf ears, fantasy-colored resin, noes (delicate and small or straight and large), and lips. Send all the full, pouty lips!!

 

Big eyes, elegant lips, and dainty or upturned noses (think Peakswoods or even Doll Leaves Betty). I also have a thing for big headed dolls. I recently got in a Clockwork Faery Moriko, and I absolutely adore her. I also enjoy fantasy elements like faeries and elves, etc.

 

Tan dolls seem to be a major thing for me (at least when they're more realistic tones, not the orange resins). Blue or lavender dolls (rare as they are) too.
Sculpts/faceups with personality (by which I mean a realistic touch of attitude or emotion in the expression).
Fantasy parts of various sorts.
More realistic noses, oddly enough. Not something I thought I'd be picky about when I got into the hobby!

Number one thing for me is detailed faces (especially eyes and lips). I tend to go for asian sculpts the most since I like the softer look without them looking too childish of feminine.

 

I'm a girl with very specific tastes (a nice way of saying I'm very nitpicky, specially when it comes to dolls) but there a couple of things that usually catch my eye:

• Cute tiny anthropomorphic dolls (Dearmine, Zuzus... I would purchase a small an army if I could).
• Male dolls which are very manly, realistic, and gorgeous, better with muscular bodies (I can't get enough of those).

 

I love cute unique faces! Especially the lips and nose!

 

I have a weakness for dolls with half closed eyes & slightly parted lips with teeth showing.. ><

 

My number one characteristics is sleepy/half closed eyes. There is something about it that gives the doll a dreamy look!
Light/white colored wigs with the combo of white lashes are really pretty to! Detailed hand sculpts and interesting/ different face proportions are something that I like as well!

 

I'm only interested in male dolls, and prefer the bishie look to either the more masculine or more childish sculpts. I like realistic but idealized sculpts with high cheekbones and V shaped faces. I prefer the bodies not to be too muscular, but I'm having a hard time finding that in the grown 70+ cm dolls. I LOVE body scars and sculped veins. I prefer straight noses and thinner, more realistic lips, which sadly doesn't seem to be terribly popular these days.

 

I like big expressive eyes and pouty lips. Also love some cute chubby cheeks xD

 

I'm an absolute sucker for horns and any kind of fantasy elements. I'm also a big sucker for centaurs or bodies where you can switch out the legs for human or fantasy parts (like mermaids, etc). As far as sculpts I'm a huge fan of mature facial features and sort of more grim/mean looking expressions, but I also really love soft/delicate expressions too.

 

I love me some plump and pouty lips! Downturned eyes are also super cute.

 

I am obsessed with thick lower lip. I also prefer pale hair and eye colours as these features make a doll looks dreamy.

 

Anatomically correct facial sculpts. I've painted well over 200 portraits as a fine artist and I'm always disappointed when there is some anatomical detail that has been left out or not done correctly. My favorite sculptors are Julia Cross and Kana by Kana. I find their sculpts to be so realistic and gorgeous. But I'm a sucker for iMda's Manon. I don't know what it is, maybe the big eyes and pouty mouth. LOL

 

I love full lips, I've recently realized that I don't have a single doll or floating head without this feature I just can't help it

 

two of my most favorite features include droopy eyes and pretty, full lips! droopy eyes usually give a more melancholy look to a doll and, for some reason, is my ultimate weakness. fuller lips are just super cute to me ❤️ it's even better when a sculpt has both of these, lol.
