when you start finding sculpt names and bjd terms in your word puzzle apps and check just to make sure they won't count toward your score...
I'm always stealing those mesh foam things that they use to protect fruits at the grocery store. "Those will fit perfectly to protect my floating heads!!" and where people see trash I see "packing material!!!"
you know you're a bjd dork when you read the above and think 'that's bloody brilliant! and have to think of what to buy to get some... or if they will let me have some O_o.
Haha I pick up the loose ones people leave behind, they are SO useful and they are just thrown away! One specific cashier also saves boxes for me You should definitely ask! Or, start eating more fruits
When you always look at stuff at stores and think 'that would definitely look great for my doll use' I used to do it all the time when I worked at American Girl QvQ;;;
You know you're a BJD dork when you haven't had a date in months and a cute guy chats you up and you debate going out with him only to turn him down because eventually you know you'd likely have to let him sleep over and you just don't think he's cute enough to be worth the bother of moving the dolls off your bed. Okay, the cat too, but still it's about the DOLLS too. That happened the other day. I got invited out and he was cute but all I could think was it was too much hassle dating someone anymore unless I was totally, totally into him, which I wasn't with this guy, I guess. Not just because of the dolls (cat) already resident on my bed but that they were an actual factor in me declining made me pause and smile for a moment. I'm clearly getting old and set in my ways if I will turn down a date with an interested guy and the possibility of regular sex down the road so as not to have to share my bed with anything but the pets and the BJD's. Pretty sad, huh? LOL
magkelly a man would just tell you how to spend your money too! Plus they eat too much....which brings me to my dorkishness - FOOD is a luxury these days I have a rota of very cheap recipes (just so my teenage son doesn't starve!) We really love spaghetti with peas, cheese and tomato sauce - no really we do! (We do!) Tonight we're having rice with peas/carrots, tuna and salad cream, just for a change - YUM! Imagine my joy when I thought I'd run out of food the other day, on finding a packet of soya mince in the cupboard! (it made great chili - add tarragon and it's amazing - no really it is) No cakes or chocolates till Christmas - why waste good money on them when virtual ones are free! omnomnom And I was so annoyed at buying my son £80 worth of clothes last week too (with the child benefit money) - bang goes the dolly fund! Because I really NEED dolls more than my son needs clothes And yes of course my dolls are better dressed than I am - which isn't difficult as I wear my son's old cast-offs And I can't afford bus fares - thankfully don't have a car to run or I'd never be able to buy dolls - so I stay at home - well home is where the dolls are *prize dork*
When you create an entire character in an already existing original novel just to give her a back story even though she was never a part of the original plot line. Rei Skaisuke never had a twin sister until Yuei came home to me. XD
I did that too! In 2009 kitsunebi, a really close friend, gave me a LCP Delf Dreaming Shiwoo head, and he sat in The Headbasket because my original plans of making him a more serious version of Ryuichi, my OE Shiwoo didn't work out. (Ryuichi's capable of doing both serious AND kawaii with the same head! ) My Facebook 'Gravitation' Role Play group already had a Ryuichi that was dating Tatsuha (IRL as well as in the RP), so their Ryuichi suggested that I RP as Ryuma, Ryuichi's identical older twin brother. I thought it was a brilliant idea, so I began doing just that. Then one day last summer, I said "I think I'm going to make my Dreaming Shiwoo head into Ryuma, he's such a cool character that he deserves a shell." Everyone thought that was such a great idea that when I got the money from my car accident (we were fine, but the car was totaled, broken frame from being rear-ended ), I got Ryuichi a new F60 body and gave his old T3 body to Ryuma. So now, Sakuma Ryuichi has an older by 92 minutes identical twin brother named Sakuma Ryuma! I am SUCH a BJD dork! Ryu
all the way, friend. I took only part of my (growing) stash of materials for dolly clothing on holiday with me, and then when it came to go home, I had a sizeable portion of my suitcase taken up by materials......... TT_TT I always see materials and think of what I could make them into dolly-wise.
So, this really happened today: I was in my car driving to my class and I felt the sun shining on the left side of my body/face and I panicked for a second thinking "NO! I'm going to get uneven yellowing!" Then busted out laughing at how ridiculous I am :P
you can be forgiven ^^ I've seen what happens when humans 'yellow' unevenly lol....(long holiday driving one direction... Dad never looked so funny ^^... see... we 'yellow' too... only not so permanently lol.
Shawnee, it's four AM here so I'm a bit delirious anyway, but I laughed so hard at that and then imagined what it would be like if humans DID yellow like that, and now I'm a bit unnerved. .__.
When your doll has more of a life than you do ^^. When the price of the stuff in their wardrobe is more than your own. When you sit down next to them, bump them slightly and apologize, lol. When you start making things for them yourself. These are just a few things I can think of and most are true for me ^w^.
You want buy them their own tree. You realize the mini tree you've put up since childhood is too big for your MSD's. You now need to find a perfect tree. For your dolls. Because it's not fair that your tinies get their own tree but your MSD's get none.
That's just being a "DOLL" dork! I've been looking for the right scaled tree for Barbie for decades! lol Being a BJD dork is when you get excited because you realized you finally have dolls in sizes (other than Barbie sized) that you can now GET (in scale) Christmas trees for! If I wasn't afraid of Dad blowing a fuse I'd have a table moved up from the basement to set up a doll oriented tree/display... >< (instead of our big tree) <-- this is dorkdom.
Er... should I mention the christmas photostory I did some years ago wherein I did in fact spend hours scouring e-bay to find the perfect little presents for everyone to go under the tree, and this happened? (In case anyone is confused - no that wasn't an accident.)
When I was explaining a bit about bjds to my neighbour and she commented "Wow you even have your own language when talking about those things". Facu-ups, restringing, hybrids, customizing etc... Yep total doll geek
The irony here is what about ppl who do the porcelain doll deal...they 'string,' f'ace up', maybe they don't use the term hybrid but I'd bet a lot of doll heads from one place go on bodies not from the same place (or better yet, homemade cloth ones)... so why are only US the dorks and not them O_o? lol
Don't laugh. I got Ryuichi, my SD boy a tree four years back. You know you're a BJD Dork when... You have a 3' tree and a 7' tree, and you put the GOOD ornaments on the 3' tree! Your resinoyds all have ugly holiday sweaters. They get more presents than you do. They have a sled and you don't. You panic when you realize that you can't afford to buy all of them presents (I now have six and I'm expecting a seventh home very soon! ) You hide their presents so they can't see them. Ryu
OMG this is the best 'Christmas BJD Dork' list ever! And it was in '06 after Mom's heart attack that we didn't do a big decoration other than the tree but I did a 'mini' display with a pretty little angel barbie and a nifty tree thing (hard to describe in text) and my grans 'wooden angel trio. But since the cats are not quite used to the dolls yet... not going to try with the pricey dolls this year... next ... omg here comes a dork... I am going to do a set up AND make Christmas cards with pictures... you know the type ppl usually put the 'family' portrait in? .... Ya I'll have a 'doll family portrait' card made lol. By next year I should be able to pull all the needed elements together lol.. yup I'm a BJD dork too! big time.
Um...my niece did set up a Christmas display with the dolls. I had to get a large 2'x4' plywood "floor" from my father 30 min away. She is still wrapping their presents. (Some are embarrassingly real gifts). I still have to make 2 of them stuffed animals. Yep. Dork. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Yep, Yule/Christmas BJD dork here! *points to self* My cats are all squirt bottle-trained, as in when they get on top of a table or counter that they KNOW they're not allowed on, the squirt bottle gets thumped down once and a loud "NO!" And if they don't get down, cold (actually room-temperature) water right in the face! It doesn't hurt them (of course) but they hate the water! I even trained my old dog that way. You might want to try training your cats that way to leave the dolls alone, just don't do it around electrical stuff, fried kitty hair smells bad! My 3' tree is actually up on top of a 5'+ tall bureau in the bedroom, so any of the four cats would have to really LEAP to get to it. And considering how chubby and lazy most of them are, I have no worries of them doing so. Right now, the tree's not decorated yet, but when it is, I'll take pics and link them here! I STILL haven't figured out what to get them for a Yule present. Maybe it'll be the new SD girl (Noriko!) that they will get as a present. Nothing better than a new friend! Ryu
XD We should make a doll Christmas thread. ^ Just wanted to drop off a picture...Of my dolls with their own tree. (Almost all my three footer's decorations fit it...And they stole the star off my littles tree)
I realized I was a BJD dork when I learned to sew.... just for my doll! Yep, I got weird looks in the craft store
You mean one hasn't been started yet for this year? If not, you should start it! Pffft. I take whomever I'm working on IN Joanne Fabrics with me, so much so that when I don't bring one, everyone who works there is like "where's your doll?" I can turn this into: ...you know you're a BJD dork when you go into the sewing store to get something really fast and the workers are like "where's your doll?" Ryu

Ryu[/QUOTE] Ugh...my mother ALWAYS tells them at Joanns that the pile of fabric is for my dolls....for like 15 minutes. She sounds much more like a doll dork talking about it then she makes me sound like lol! Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
XD I bring Kazumi almost every time I go to Hancocks fabrics. I can find a lot of great stuff there for both of 'em and it's easier to describe what I'm sewing for if I just hold her up.
I'm new to BJD, I just pre-ordered my first doll about 15 days ago. The company website where I purchased the doll said it would be most likely be 2-7 months until shipment, but I constantly check to see if the order status has changed. And every time I see that it hasn't, I feel so lame. Worse than that, I found another doll (realpuki soso) which I love, yet can not afford so I asked for it as a Christmas present... here's the dorky part... I don't even know if anyone is purchasing her for me but I've already ordered wigs and clothes.
You know you are a BJDDork when 'this' is your Christmas Card! http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?605310-Holiday-Greetings!-(Greeting-Card-style-)
XD; I don't know where it wound up...When I went to submit it, it said it had to be approved by the mods.
When you find out that the local meetup, which is a rare event but always beyond exciting and great, is on the same day as one of your super-important final exams, and you only think of how to make it safe and always to keep an eye on the bag with your doll while at school building because you live too far away to come back home to fetch your dolls after the exam and you have to carry them all day. Here is how i will act like a bjd-dork this weekend. Feel like a bad student? Hell yeah, but uh sooo excited for the meetup, yay!! ;3
when i am getting my doll a present and she is stilling on me and i am like noooooo she saw it..... DX
... When you overhear people at a cafe mention "A-line" and your ears perk up, thinking they're talking about Minifees... only to realize that they're talking about dresses :\ Boring!
You mean we're not supposed to? I take one of my resinoyds with me just in case I find something their size. I've found teddy bear sweaters and hats and tennis shoes for them by doing so. Of course, they're SD sized, like my dolls, so its easy. I can turn this into: ...you know you're a BJD Dork when you take your BJD with you when you go out just in case you see something that they may fit and you want to see if it does. Ryu
A certain doll company is releasing a LE at three in the morning, local time. You set your alarm clock at 2:00 am just to be on the safe side. When you successfully check out you whoop and dance around, waking up the rest of the household and making the dog bark at you suspiciously. Too excited to go back to sleep, you spend the rest of the day at work drinking coffee and daydreaming about your new doll
On the way to work today I was behind someone who's lisence plate started with DDE. Me: aw, Denver Doll!! ....wait.... lol
I was delighted to add XagaDoll's Lara to my wishlist upon deciding she would be a good shell for Cheza of Wolf's Rain. Wait, maybe that's proof I'm otaku (anime dork) instead. Now to find a Keba to go with her... I worry about a doll costing too much because it might prevent me from getting future LEs instead of needing it for my life in the future.
When instead of doing work in your digital art studio class you are looking up dolls and making outfits for them!! I did this so much this semester its a wonder i passed my video glass!! OR You spend 3-d modeling class designing jewelry for your dolls.
When you re-arrange your entire bedroom and turn it into a doll workshop with a bed... When asked what your new years resolution is, you simply reply with "doll things"...
That's close to my New Years resolution every year! I always say my resolution is "doll bodies for the floating heads in the Headbasket." Ryu
When you start to collect doll sized plushies and then actually divvy them out into "so and so's" collection (even if you don't have the doll yet) because you want to make sure all your resin kids are treated equally. When you realize there are two sizes to scale in life: your size and doll size.
you mean like this? ^^ P1000391 v2 by DoA Tiku, on Flickr I have more that I cut out of the pic cuz.... I don't have those dolls yet LOL! Yup, DORK
When you think fo your favorite movie star and say to yourself, "One day I will have your head!!" and the only ones who don't look at you funny are the BJD friends you have.
eh heh... when you message a small town council looking for a very likely 'no longer in business' store because they once made 'doll sized' furniture (it was a real upholstery shop that made standard furniture... but I have an old barbie sized chair and couch from them... with the tag I used to give the town council the info from)
When you go shopping 2 hours from your home town and the highlight is going to the department store to look at the clearance Christmas ornaments for bjd sized accessories. (I got a watering can, a cute little travel trunk and little miniature phaser for a buck each!!!!!)
You Know You're a BJD Dork When you contemplate taking your dolls with you when you leave the house so that no one who might break in to your house could steal them. (mostly my tiny Enyos)
You know you're a BJD dork when you randomly find an brand new package of sticky tack stashed away in your office/desk/school supplies and immediately think, "YESSS!! NEW EYE PUTTY!"
When you take a retractable sewing tape measure every time you go shopping to check if stuff is the right size for bjds. When you go to an antique mall just to look for doll stuff.
I made a database of the Bluefairy limited releases, whenever anyone asks how often they have events (bluefairy don't have a regular event schedule) I am able to tell them what they last release a doll, also how many events per year per year, average wait times, prices, stuff like that. It's not that nerdy, but it's a little sad
You know you're a BJD dork when you spend hours at a time searching for fabric with print in-scale with your doll. Hahhh...
Try going to a thrift store and looking in the baby section and the kids sections. Often they have in-scale print. Just get the outfits and cut the fabric out to make your items. You know you're a BJD dork when you actually KNOW this kinda stuff! Ryu
