Withdoll 60cm discussion

My Margery's eyes finally arrived but I've been too distracted to make her wig and the outfit I commissioned is taking a century from the artist. When she's all put together I'll definitely be sharing photos.

 

Oh gosh, my honey-brown Vera arrived today, but I had to leave for work before I got a chance to open her! I'm so excited ... but now I'm telling myself to stay strong and not open her until tomorrow, when the lighting will be good enough to get some box-opening pics.

 

Hope you guys don't mind me jumping in with some photos of my Adrianna. I haven't seen many of her anywhere (here or IG) so if any of you guy have one, I'd love to see what you did with yours. Especially if you found a use for the extra head she came with. I'm trying to mod mine to look like it's half scarred.

I actually recently sent away her normal head for a face up and she's on her way back to me now! She'll have no body for a little bit but I'm excited to post photos of her when she arrives, even if she is just a floating head at the moment

@lavalunar Congratulations on your Vera! I checked your instagram for photos and she's really pretty! The Honey Brown skin seems like a such nice tan colour, I really want to get a doll in that skin tone as well. :3

I've got Adriana, too, her name is Apate. I haven't been posting her much because she's on a queue waiting for a new face up and she also shares a body with her sister Nemesis, so... poor girl has been neglected. I've also been kind of hoping that Withdoll would re-release Adriana with elf ears because I really love the long elf ears that Dark Vera has and wish I could get Adriana with such lovely ears too. Both my girls are demons and I like my demons to have long ears, ahah. xD

 

Thanks @Mizya I always love the way you style your girls. My Adriana is actually a demon character as well Her sculpt would look great with elf ears, though I think WithDoll mentioned last time they weren't going to resell her again? Not sure, they've said that about limited dolls before only to bring them back

I definitely plan to take more @ZennoSaji I got mine in the regular White. The rose white has always really interested me because I'm quite fond of resin colours with pink tones. How do you find it in person?

 

Opening her box, the first thing I thought of was dream of doll. The DOD I have is a few years older and mellowed a bit, so long term in looking forward to Adriana doing just that. But it's quite pink fresh out of the box x) still a pale rose and it photographs well, but, unlike a certain other doll in my collection, this will age well.

 

@ZennoSaji Oh, it must be a really nice colour then. I love the colour of my DOD boys and out of all my other dolls I feel like their resin has aged the best. I actually haven't even noticed any major colour changes.

My regular Adriana head arrived back from her face up artist a little while ago and I'm so thrilled with how she turned out. She's a really versatile sculpt it seems. I don't have her proper eyes or wig yet so she's wearing these Oscar Doll Eyes I had spare. Her name is Honey~

Anyway...

The rest of Honey's things arrived today so I decided to do the unthinkable; I borrowed Bisque's (my Adriana cracked head) body and put Honey together. Bisque is one of my favourite dolls so it seemed like blasphemy for me to do it but she will be getting her body back soon-ish. For now though I'm SO happy with how Honey looks all completed! She definitely needs her own body ASAP Honey is going to be my Mori girl since I've always wanted to have a Mori girl in my doll family.

Well, the rerelease of Vera seems to have done me in....ugh. I have so little self control for this time of the year!!

 

I'd love Raffine, but Lordy are finances tight this year. I went all-out on Christmas presents for my gf and I'm not sure I can swing it. I'm a little enamoured with the "spirit" body with all the tattoos.

 

So happy they're rereleasing Vera again! I missed her fullset last time and I'm trying to enter into a split for it. So unless any lovely members of this thread have the Limited Vera outfit, coat, and ice sword to buy from I'll be hopefully getting new items from this potential split.

 

I just ordered Vera - the dark version. She'll be my first SD BJD, and my second BJD overall (the first one also being a Withdoll). So excited!

I wanted dark Vera so badly, she was a love at first sight. I was hoping they'd rerelease her, and I'm so happy they did so soon after I entered the hobby! Yaaaay!

 

congrats! I’m tempted by dark Vera as well. I have the light version and she’s one of my favorite dolls.

I have a question for dark Vera owners - what size of eyes do you use for her? The website states that they used 12mm eyes for the photoshoot, but I'd like to know what size do owners use. Thank you in advance!

I ordered a dark Vera on this last release, is Withdoll pretty good about sending you a notice when the dolls go out? I have never bought from them directly, they told me doll would be shipping end of the month, but was just wondering if she'll just show up or will they send me a notice? They haven't changed anything on my account page reflecting that she's been paid off and moved to any other status, though they did confirm it on the Q&A board. Thank you So excited to get this girl!

 

I've only ever bought one doll from them so I dont have a lot of correlation vs causation data to go on, but when I got my Alan I never got a shipping notice, I just checked the site intermittantly and noticed the order status had changed.

 

I ordered twice from them, and didn't get a shipping notice in either of those cases, I also had to check the website. I ordered my dark Vera on December 5, and she arrived on February 20 (she got held at Customs for a few days, which prolonged the delivery time).

Second, I ordered a Witch Maid Ruby on Dec 1st and didn't getting a shipping notification either, although she arrived in one piece. Hopefully the wait isn't too long.

My "Forest Elf" Lia arrived yesterday and she is absolutely gorgeous! I can't wait to make her some clothing and paint her face. Did anyone else order Lia?

 

LUCKY!!! I wanted to order her so bad, but I had already purchased a different doll. I hope they rerelease her like they do Vera in the future.

 

Jumping in here! I got a Withdoll Adriana in real(?) skin. She is my first big doll in a loooong time and I love her to bits already!

Can anyone direct me to a thread that discusses what clothes fit their size, btw? I tried searching but failed at finding anything! SD sizes are so hard to figure out

 

Withdoll's SD unique body shape is a bit hard to shop for clothes. I don't know of any store that specifically caters to that company's sizes. I've had to get all my clothes from the fullsets the company offers or recvd clothes as a gift from my seamstress bestie who also owns the dolls. Measure your doll to determine if a store's clothes will fit. That's all I can suggest to you I'm sorry.

 

I haven’t had any issues with dressing my Vera. She used to wear a Souldoll zenith dress and is currently wearing a dress from Loongsoul.

 

Most of my Vera's tops are meant to be oversized on her. But I have a few bottoms that fit really well without being overly snug.
I have a pair of shorts on her like these from DK Craft Shop in 1/3 size, however they hit some major snags where they used to sell on Etsy (they're saying someone hacked into their Paypal and Etsy account, Etsy currently has them suspended), I had no issues with them and really like the products I received, but they now take orders by email.
I've also put this pair of pants from Alice Collections in 1/3 size on her and they fit great.

Shoes I can't speak on much though, only two of my SDs can share shoes, my Vera ended up fitting well into a pair of sandals I purchased so long ago that none of my other dolls could fit on account of their feet being too tall (like bottom of foot to top of foot). All the other shoes I have feet too big on her flat feet, but I haven't done much checking out with her heeled feet.

 

@Swifty - I don't seem to have a photo of it, but for a long while my Adriana was wearing an Angell Studio Youth gown that fit her perfectly.

 

This might be a long shot, but would anyone happen to know if Soom heads fit on the Withdoll boy bodies? I have an artist head that has roughly the same sizes as male Soom heads that I'm body hunting for I know the head fits on Supergem bodies, but I was looking for something a little thinner (and I'm secretly looking for a reason to buy a big Withdoll body )

I’ve gotten clothes for my Adriana from Alice Collections 1/3 and they’ve been fine.

I’ve got the reverse question - I’m thinking about other companies to potentially get a doll that could use my Adriana cracked head. Anyone tried head swapping your girls heads to other bodies? Or matching the Withdoll white skin?

 

I have maybe 3 bodies from various companies I can try the head on if you’d like. I have a blank white head from them.

Is the "sweet blue" in real life a soft tone or an intense blue? I am seeing quite different pictures online.
In the promotional pictures of withdoll themselves she hardly looks blue at all only very slightly blue.
But owner pictures look everything between soft blue to intense blue, and definitely darker than the promotional ones

 

It’s a very soft blue. I dyed mine way bluer, but originally she was noticeably blue but photographed almost white

for a slightly better pic of the blue, I have a photo I snapped because Tumblr was having a photo-sharing thing dedicated to different pets of sculpts—this week was butts, hence the weird pose I went with, but you can get a better idea of her colour here for sure!

I have some Withdolls in different sizes all ordered and arrived at the same time that are significantly yellowed/heading to greening after only a year old and am wanting other collectors input.

 

Hello, does anyone here own a SWD Mir and would be able to post some photos? I'd greatly appreciate it. I searched the internet for hours and also checked IG, but was unable to find any owner photos. It feels like he's really unpopular...

 

There doesn’t seem to be many Withdoll SWD boys out there on Instagram, it’s not just Mir. I wonder if that’s why they’re redoing the body?

I can’t speak for anyone else but the last few years there’s been so much going on I didn’t engage with my dolls much. I think I’m just getting back into a place where I can actively engage in hobbies again.

Maybe that’s why it’s been quiet here. But also maybe that’s why there’s not much on the boys?

 

Did anyone get the Forest Elf Lia doll? I own a few MSD Withdolls but she has caught my eye - even though she is sold out. But I was hoping to find owner photos.

 

So, after all this time, Withdoll finally releases an SWD boy I really like,... right after they discontinued the body I was interested in. As far as I could tell, they didn't even give us a "last chance" warning, did they?

 

@Sianserais It's basically the same situation for me, although I wanted the 2022 version (or older) of the 67cm body that had a waist joint and not the newer 2023 version. I hadn't been following the resin side of the hobby for a couple of years (as I've been into Dollfie Dreams) so I was a bit like "wait, what" when I noticed that they had changed the torso, so had to go back and check when the change happened. I guess the majority of people prefer chest joints, but I really dislike how sharp they are and they cut the torso unnaturally (humans have a rib cage and we're not meant to bend there). But well...

They did post on the 20th of January on instagram that they would be releasing a 70 cm body next and discontinuing the 67 cm version, however the discontinuation also happened on that same day so there wasn't really a proper warning that would've allowed people some time to purchase the 67 cm body before discontinuation. I'm a bit disappointed with how they handled this, to be honest, I think that usually they're better at giving a heads up when there's a discontinuation.

The 70 cm body isn't really fit to my aesthetic, it's very stocky and the arms look too rounded and overall it's more muscular than I'd like (and of course, that chest joint). Lots of companies are now doing these very muscular male bodies and I'm not a fan... but I guess Withdoll at least kept the pecks relatively flat. Some companies have breast size options for their male dolls now but I don't really want my men to be very muscular or have extra plump pecks. It's a bit frustrating that when a trend happens, then basically every doll company goes for that, instead of doing their own thing. But I guess that's generally the way of the world. Like I dislike trends in clothing, as I'm very picky about clothes that feel comfortable to wear, so I haven't found comfortable jeans in probably over 20 years now. So I'm stuck waiting for when the trends change again. Although, in dolls, the chest joint trend has been around since early 2010's, so I've been waiting for a while for that one to go away... xD

One more complaint is that Jay's head looks a bit too small for the body, not sure if their older heads are bigger and would look better. But their older heads are also very young-looking in general (except for Mir), so I'm not sure how well they would fit on this new body. I think younger faces would look better on a lean body.

I am quite sad about this business with the body, as I really like Jay's face. He reminds me of Juwel, which was the first doll I bought from Withdoll back in 2010. I did end up liking the half-closed eyes version the best, so if they ever make Jay with half-closed eyes, then he'd be absolutely perfect for me.

For hybrid purposes, if you happen to like Supia, you'd get a perfect match because Withdoll casts their dolls (if anyone needs proof, they did a collab release of Supia Zion head on Withdoll's body, Supia's 2023 colour chart is the same as Withdoll's chart, except they only use the headcap images and have their own names for the colours, also Supia has done some of the face ups on Withdoll's newer releases, Jay being one of them). Supia has a 65 cm tall body, although they did also recently release a 75cm tall body as well... but hopefully the 65 cm body stays around and doesn't get discontinued.

 

@Mizya - Yeah, I understand why they put the joint there for aesthetic reasons, but it's not my favorite either. I still liked the look and size of the 2023 version, though. And that's what I thought - there really was no time for us to grab one after the announcement, otherwise I would have.
I agree that Jay's head looks a little small and young on the 70cm body, and I'm tired of this overly-muscular trend for the male dolls as well. My characters aren't body builders. They don't give exact measurements, but the page says he takes 8-9" wigs, the same as most of the other SWD boys, so... maybe there is no difference, or only 1cm if there is?
Thank you for pointing out the Supia option, in any case! I've never owned one, so I don't know how well they pose, but I'll definitely look into that. I was debating whether LUTS's real skin brown was close enough to Withdoll's real skin to make it work, but the examples I have on hand indicate that Withdoll's is noticeably pinker. Always harder to hybrid the tan resins!
