What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 13, 2010

    1. Definitely SDs, specifically 60cm ones. :D They are big enough that making them clothes isn't usually too finicky for machine sewing, yet they are small enough to not require insane amounts of fabric for the clothes. Also, to me they just feel the nicest to handle in general, I guess it's the "cuddliness" that MSDs and smaller seem to lack. The only downside of this size I can think of is that it's much more effort to take them outside to take pictures of them, especially if I don't have anyone with me to make sure the doll doesn't fall or something.

    2. SD's are my favourite. I think it's the right size for me...not too big unlike the 70cm dolls and not too small unlike the MSDs.

    3. SD's are my favorite right now, but I'd love to check out a Trinity. (about 105 cm or so)

    4. SDs, I think it's so cool when people hold their dolls by their torso and kinda struggle with the weight of Sd dolls. I also like the amount of detailing artists can make on them

    5. I only really own 1/4 now MSD size and I love this size. Maybe in the future I get a tinier doll or larger , but for now I love this size :D

    6. Msds are my favorite. I play with them and they are easy to dress. However, I also like sd10.

    7. I love SDs because they're so dramatic and detailed, but am quickly discovering that they're a struggle for storage. MSDs are a good compromise, I'm finding. They still have some presence, but they'll actually fit on a shelf.

    8. ~70cm+? Find myself more attracted to sculpts in that size range and appreciate the substance ahaゞ

    9. 1/3 scale dolls / SD are so easy to make clothes for and also have more realistic Sculpts, but 1/4 scale dolls / MSD are so convenient with their cheaper prices and that they take up less room. But I definitely like dolls that are in that scale the most. Smaller dolls are just too hard to work with, but I'd like to challenge myself by making stuff for them in the future.

    10. Obviously, tinies 15-16 cm :whee: They're cute, easy to carry around and you can get them all kinds of lovely Re-ments items.
My daughter's got YOSD size, they're fine but for me it is really the tallest I could go for. I don't feel comfortable around tall dolls, though I find them beautifull.

    11. When I go through my dolls and count how much I have from any size, than I have to tell MSD. But I intend to bring smaller dolls with me when I travel.

    12. 1/3 and 70cm are my favorite size to sew for. And since sewing and crafting are my main loves, it is why my crew is mostly big. I also like the presence of a super big doll.

I think 1/4 is the best size for playing because it is way easier to get 1/4 props and they are a little easier to stand in difficult positions since they are lighter. Also more companies have realistic and mature 1/4 dolls now. I think if I joined the hobby later, I would have more 1/4 dolls like Dollshe fashion and Iplehouse fashion. Or maybe I will start a realistic 1/4 crew when I have a different batch of characters to shell. Lol nothing stopping me but my wallet :chomp:

    13. Can I have two? I like my people dolls to be MSD, SD is too big to be practical for me and I don't like kid dolls which is what most tinies seem to be. But I adore tiny anthros, like pets and stuff. Perfect for a purse pocket!

    14. I like both SD and MSD. SD is my favorite to play with, but MSD is better for riding in my bag. I guess my favorite would then change on the situation.

    15. I can't talk about the physical aspect of it ((ugh I just want my first doll to arrive so bad send help)) but I tend to like YoSD sculpts more than SD/MSD ones.

    16. Xyzzy - Hope your doll comes soon!

    17. I prefer SD sized dolls because they are a breeze to sew for :XD: but I'm currently obsessing on my tiny AE doll (1/12th) as of the moment so maybe the balance is shifting a little

    18. SD and MSD, but when I have the chance, I pick SD for sure.

    19. I like tiny bjds (16 cm) I think they're easy to carry. :whee:

    20. I love my tiny, I really do, she's wonderful and can steal Barbie clothes. I can stick her in my school bag or jacket pocket and she barely gets a second glance. She poses spectacularly. She's easy to sew for. BUT!

I prefer the size of my MSD girls. They're a little trickier to sew for because they do need stuff fitted specifically to them, one of them is a posing nightmare, and while I have a tote bag they can ride in, it's always something of an Event to take them out and about. But they just seem the perfect size! They're big enough I can appreciate the fine details (eyelashes, gorgeous sparkly eyes, wigs, etc) without being too big. I've seen a few SDs in person and while I love the look of some SD sized dolls, I don't think I'd want to own one. They seem massive after the dolls I've been around my whole life. Plus I do a lot of hand sewing so it seems like making anything for one of the big dolls would take me weeks!

    21. I really like 1/8-1/4 size, but no bigger.

I just really love dolls that are small enough to sit comfortably in the palm of your hand, there's something extra special about fitting so much detail into something that itty-bitty. Plus small is just inherently cute, I think. :D

    22. 1/4 size for sure, SD dolls are a bit too much for me at the moment and the 1/4 scale is the perfect size to still be able to easily make clothes and custom props for them before getting too tiny with the smaller sizes <3 Also the ability to handle them and have them sit in my hand and being able to transport them easier in groups for photos outdoors ^.^ I do admire many SD sculpts tho so maybe one day they will seem less intimidating!

    23. MSD or smaller alll the way.
I like being able to comfortably cary my dolls and have more than one on a display shelf. a doll too big might freak me out at night too @_@ look over and think a toddler broke into my home. (Joooke)

    24. I love many sizes of doll but if I had to pick a favorite for fun and comfort and sheer play enjoyability, I do keep coming back to Littlefees.

    25. I prefere the 25-35 range (yosd?). I don't have much Space for anything in my apartment, plus they can share clothes with my Pullip/blythe and that makes It easier to dress them.

    26. When I started off I had to have the big dolls. I had a Mecha angel at one point (which was amazing) but I’m finding the biggest dolls hard to dress. As time has moved on I’m slowly moving away from the big ones. I have 3 that are in the 65-70 cm range then one SD size. Now I’m finding the MSD, especially the fashion sizes MSD. I also love the tiniest tinies the 1/12 sizes-realpuki ect but not the yosd sizes. I prefer these because they don’t take up a lot of room and are lighter. I also find the big dolls to be clunky, they tend to to knocked by my husband and then a finger or worse is broken.

    27. I love MSD sized dolls, because I find SD dolls too heavy to carry or pose. Also, I travel a lot so MSD are the ones that are not too much for me, yet fitting the aesthetic that I want in my bjds. I have had usds, sds, and I think MSD is the right doll size for me.

    28. I only have one doll, so I don't have a point of comparison. But I most like 65-70 cm dolls, because in my opinion:

      1. it's easy for me to customize a bigger doll. For example, doing my doll's faceup was pretty easy because the area was pretty big. I'm not sure I'd be as good with tiny details of dolls with tiny faces, where I would have to use tiny paintbrushes. Also, I used my own earrings for his ears; if I had a really small doll, I couldn't really use human jewelry

      2. I tend to prefer the more mature-looking dolls, or at least, I wanted my first doll to be a mature-looking one over a child-looking one. And of course the bigger dolls tend to look more like adults than the small ones, which fits more for the characters I make for my dolls

    29. I have a MSD and SD but I prefer the size of the SD.

    30. I find that my tastes kind of "ebb and flow" between the various sizes. I started off with a good mix of SD and MSD, but then completely changed focus to Yo size or smaller. Then, a little later it was total love for SD and tiny size (think puki puki size) and I wasn't doing anything with my MSD or Yo dolls. However, over the past year I have found that my favorite size is now the Big Baby size! It's one of the great things about the hobby, as tastes change, there is still a gazillion types of dolls to fall in love with!

    31. I am in love with 42cm dolls, most of the time they look like children and I just appreciate how cute their eyes and face sculpts are!

    32. Weirdly enough I started the hobby wanting MSDs but then my first purchase, and consequently my second are tinies and I'm only thinking of getting an msd now. I have loads of clothes for her though, so I don't want them to go to waste haha

    33. Physical size doesn't matter as much to me as what I can get for them, clothing and wig wise. 70cm is too tall for me, personally. Kinda prefer the more compact size of MSD but SD tends to have more options, style wise, especially when your doll character is mature and not a kid lol.

    34. hey i was wondering what is everyone's favourite sized dolls? personally i love the 40cm-70cm dolls as they are large enough to make all sorts of clothes for but small enough so they arnt compleaty in the way :)

    35. 55 to 60cm! I love SD dolls. I'm venturing into 70cm, but I'm not sure which I'll like better. I like SD dolls because MSD feel too small to me. I just like big heads, haha.

    36. I've never actually seen an SD irl, so I can't really judge those. I like my MSD and my tiny for different reasons. Simone is easier to make clothes for and feels more substantial to cuddle. Zea is super portable, I could take her almost anywhere I wanted (that was safe for her).

    37. My collection is pretty diverse but Id have to say any size of SD, for me. When I look for new dolls on sites i generally look for bigger ones but when i get my smaller ones i generally look for whatever is cute and secondhand :XD:

    38. I've mostly bought SD sized dolls so far, but they're all bodiless at the moment so my only full doll is an MSD and he's my only doll of that size currently!

    39. Its
Ive got two floating heads, too. Its hard to find a body without that beefcake aesthetic. Most of the bodies they make now are super ripped. Which i dont dont mind for my supernatural characters, buy my more feminine boys require something... different :XD:

      • x 1
    40. ive seen some bodys that arnt so ripped like some of the angel of dreams bodys they are soo lovely and not that massive muscle machine look

    41. I have had an AoD 62cm body before and I hated it. Its so thick, almost impossible to buy clothing for. He literally had one pair of TTYA pants that fit, so i dont recommend that body unless you can make clothing lol

    42. I prefer 46-55 cm as far as the size that is the most comfortable for me to handle and carry around, but as far as sculpts go I tend to get 60-70 cm dolls for the more mature look.

    43. i am a seamstress so i can make clothing but it does sound like a pain in an ass if i did want to buy clothes ( i dont know very much about which bodys and stuff are good) i mainly go off of what other people say is good or worth the money someone i follow uses the aod body for her switch dojin head (a head i really want) and it looks so good together :)

    44. I like my 60cm boys a lot:). My first doll ever as an SD and then I had some MSD phases, and owned two tiny dolls. But I like the SD.

    45. I do prefer the MSD / 40-50cm range as thats the most comfortable size and weight for me to manage. Unfortunately as there's not much in the way of mature looking male head sculpts in the MSD range so my male characters have ended up being SD sized. Tbh I really struggle with them, they're so tiring to do anything with and take up more space. I don't mind tiny dolls but as i'm not interested in toddler/young child dolls, most of my small doll are anthros. The downside is that i find they tend to have very limited posing which frustrates me a lot so i end up not doing a lot with them either. So yeah, my MSD girls definitely get played with the most :)

    46. I Like Msd size, their clothes aren't too small so they are easy to make and the props and scenery aren't too big either.

    47. SD sized is my preference; 60cm to 70cm range.

      • x 1
    48. I started off with 40-45cm girls, then a 16cm tiny and my latest three are 48, 57 and 65. I love the bigger sizes a lot more, I've noticed. They're indeed a bit easier to make stuff for, and slightly easier to fake parts of real environments into being 'in scale' in photos.

    49. Firstly I was more to the yosd size because 1/6 is a pretty common size for dolls, but I have always had a obsession with tiny miniatures so I got a pukipuki and I'm in love! I thought about getting a realpuki but its probably harder to find clothes for her, I guess pukipuki has the right balance of being tinytiny but still easy to work with.

    50. My 65cm is probably my favorite. Smaller seem too compact and larger seem stretched out. (Maybe it's just the scults I have? xD) Close second is my 45cm because she's the perfect display size meanining I can easily find somehwere to display her. ^^

    51. Yes I know how you feel! I picture my boy Gabriel (LittleRebel Kaylar) as having quite a slim body but all the 65+ bodies are so muscly! I have however found the Loongsoul B-B62-02 body which is quite slim with some muscle definition (but not too much) and I think it would be perfect for him and I plan to get it!

    52. I like grown size male dolls, around 68 to 72cm is the best for me. I found 65cm to be a bit short for grown size doll, that's why I really hope volks could release one in 68cm or up in the future.

    53. SD sized dolls, especially in the 70-80 cm range. I prefer bigger dolls generally, but I've never seen an MSD in person so I'm still open to it!

      • x 1
    54. I have all kinds of sizes in my crew... but the 60-65cm range are my favorites.

      • x 1
    55. I really like the 60-70cm range! I own two boys that are those measurements respectively and I quite like them both because they are really easy to find clothes for. That’s pretty much my deciding factor in size, like I like the look of 80cm dolls but, they just seem hard to find clothes for and buying clothes/changing clothes is one of my favourite parts of having dolls, lmao. :aheartbea

All that said, I’m open to owning a MSD sized doll. There’s a few Kid Delfs that are so cute. :D

    56. I like SD, specifically, in the 52-62cm range. I feel like I can find the most sculpt options to fit my OCs in that range, they're pretty easy to shop/sew for, and I feel the size is worth the money.

But...since I just spent the weekend packing my 60cm boy around a convention, I'm really liking my 12cm anthro right now, too!

    57. I like yosd size. Because is Just fit to take with.

    58. Hmm, I'm not really sure, I guess SD. I feel like Msd is a hood size though because it's not too big and not too small.

    59. I have never owned a doll smaller than a minifee, but between MSD, SD, and SD17 size, I prefer SD sized dolls (the 60 cm size). It's really hard to find clothing for muscular large dolls, or I'd prefer them. SD sized dolls have just enough choices in shoes and clothing to keep me happy, and they are also big enough that they have a presence in my room!

    60. I definitely prefer my 1/4 size dolls. I’ve had a 1/3 but I just found her difficult to handle and hard to pose. I’ve also have a 1/12 that I recently got an have put right back in the box bc I just don’t care for the size , however I have bonded with my 1/4 girls , haven’t been bonded with a male but I love my 1/4 girls they are so much fun to dress and pose and easy to transport . And I definitely love playing dress up with them and taking them out for pictures and some times they chill on the table or couch next to me or go for car rides .
