What is your favorite doll size and why

Jan 13, 2010

    1. I'm am curious to what everyones favorite doll sizes are........like do you like the Super Gems, Mecha Angels, SD, MSD, Tinies. And why is that your favorite size. I tend to like myself, the larger ones, the largest is 90cm for me, and Puki the smallest, so far. I don't have any MSD's, nothing that speaks to me like take me home. I like to take my large (SD's) ones with me everywhere, usually one at a time, wether or not people stare or comment, and be seen. I cuddle and talk to them usually in private, except at doll meets or DDE, like doll places.

    2. I like 70cm. I don't know why. MSDs and 60cm SDs are just too small for me, I don't know why... I take my boy out everywhere~ Many people say that SDs are big and heavy but I don't find them big or heavy at all:)

    3. I usually like MSDs because the ones that are 60cm above take up too much space in my room

    4. I love anything tiny, have all my life - but I like big too, so I'm torn. I think really tiny would win out, though. :)

    5. MSD.
SDs are too big, and tinies are just too tiny (though I will be getting a Narsha, but they're on the larger side of tinies). For me, MSDs are the best size to travel with and keep on my lap when I want company. Also, I can afford them xD
I do own one SD and, while I love him, I just find him too big.

    6. I like SDs and MSDs. I own more SDs so I guess I prefer them :)

    7. Though I love my SD boy to bits, I'm most attracted to the MSD and Yo-SD sizes in a doll. This is mainly do to size proportion, as I'm 5'2" and SD dolls tend to be heavy in my arms. I'm exercising I guess, but MSD is especially easier and more appropriate for my size. >_<'' Whenever I'm at my friend mel-mel-chan's house I love to play with her boy Kuroku because of his size and ease to carry.

    8. 70cm. They're a pain to buy for, and a pain to carry, but it's so much easier for me to work on them because of their size. Whenever I hold other people's MSDs I'm always nervous I'll break them because they feel so small and fragile compared to my big boys! They've grown on me though, and I'm waiting for a YoSD. While I like all the sizes now, 70s or anything over 65cm will almost always be what I prefer.

    9. I find that a 60cm doll fits just right in the crook of my arm (I'm 5'7) or on my lap.

I love holding SD/SD13 boys. My second favorite is MSD.

    10. I personally like the 60-70cm bjds. They're a nice size to sew for and dress although they do take up a bit of room.

      • x 1
    11. Nothing smaller than SD. MSD is too small and tinies just look ridiculous to me.

      • x 1
    12. MSD's are currently my preferred size~ I think it's just the perfect size for me. They don't take up much room, still big enough for cuddles. :D

    13. I would prefer 45cm-70cm doll. It will be hard to lost them when they are bigger in size. Limited place for them to hide when playing hide-and-seek =P

    14. I like the SD sizes better they r bigger and easier for me to deal with though they r big. I am visually impaired so I think that the bigger is just easier for me to hang onto to bond with.

    15. I prefer between 61-63.5 Souldoll double and CP Delfs being my favorite size and shape. Souldoll's are so flexible they can curl up in your lap like a cat, and i think delf hands were sculpted just so they can wrap around your thumb like a baby's > < so cuuuuuute~

Tall dolls (65+) get intimidating or something for me, I almost literally jumped away from the first 80 cm doll I encountered (LOL) and I just don't get into MSD's. I LOVE tinies though, like puki size tiny. Anything that fits in the palm of your hand is squeeably adorable XD

    16. so far all i've owned are 62-64cm. i'm about to get my first tiny soon, though.

    17. Love SDs--nice size to sew for, and can't imagine trying face up on anything smaller right now. I have a couple of MSDs and really like those, too--they can swap and share fashions with my 16" fashion dolls often. Just ordered some Jrs and thinking about a tiny or two--different sizes make for interesting families :)

    18. 60cm all the way. I like big dolls, and I think they're a perfect size! I do like MSD, however, (fairyland's bodies are amaazing!) and I'll probably get a few of those and maybe a tiny (nothing that's only three inches tall, though), but the majority of my dolls will be 60cm.

    19. I have only purchased MSDs, probably because the first one was at a price I could afford. I have seen a couple of SDs that I liked but price has remained something of a condition and so they are on a wishlist. But I do like the MSW size and my ladies can share clothes and space quite easily. I know that some folks say the larger sculptures have more details and are more beautiful but in the end....your heart picks more than your head...and my heart is with my MSD ladies. julie

    20. I love SDs so much (60-70). The size is most suitable for sewing an intricate clothing and not too large to the point I'm unable to carry them))

    21. My sentiments exactly :)

However I am increasingly drawn to some of the mini and tiny dolls on the market, as I would like to challenge myself to make clothes for them, too!

    22. I think I like MSD best. The big ones are just, like.. WOAH. Too huge and conspicuous. MSD is big enough so that they're easy to deal with and make things for, I think, without being TOO big.
The little squished chibi sizes just aren't what I'm looking for in a BJD.

    23. Right now it's MSD. But I have seen just tiny dolls expect that. (Okay, I've seen SD's too, but I really didn't dare to touch them.. I scared that I would drop it) Tiny doll's are little bit too small for me. I mean, I like them and I will have them, but they are too small for to be my favorite size. MSD is good. Not too big or small. I think that it's more easy to make face-ups and clothes to MSD than tiny dolls. And still, I can't be sure with SD...

    24. around 50-63 cm.. since i've just got my Zaoll and love that size, and I've always thought that 70 cm are to big for me, but lately i've been looking for one anyway.
but definitely not tiny's they're just too.. tiny.. I'm afraid i'd lose or break them.. Oo And msd's seem so small and light.. I like the size and weight of the larger dolls more.. and they're more huggable.. hehe..

    25. MSD forever. The size (and price) is right in the middle. ;)

    26. I prefer 60-70cm but there are always exceptions. I'm quite fond of some in the 30-60cm range, and I absolutly adore my Mecha angel.

      • x 1
    27. SDs are just the right size and weight for me: they're easy to carry, easy to pose and just the right size to take photos of - as far as I'm concerned, the 60-65cm range wins out every time :)

      • x 1
    28. SD13(~60CM) would be my favourite doll size as they are right fixed in my arms.^0^

Also, it is easier for me to sew some clothes to them as I found it rather challenging to make some precise details or patterns on tinies' clothes XDDD (I am not good at making tiny items>///< I appreciate those who can make gorgeous and detailed tinies'clothes~!!)

    29. Definitely SD size (58-65cm) with Volks SD13 boys being my specific favorites. :) I've owned 70cm Dollshe dolls before and found them too big and gangly, and the minis I owned I found to be too awkwardly small in comparison to my SDs. I like YoSD size tinies ok, since they look like toddlers with my SD boys, but am not a fan of the smaller tinies.

    30. I generally prefer the bigger dolls (for sewing especially) But MSD's and smaller are SO much easier to travel with, I don't have to use a carrier they can fit in my backpack lol

    31. Hmm, I have a 55cm doll (souldoll double) a sampling of MSDs, a yo-sized doll, a lati yellow size doll, and pukis. My favorite size is def MSD. I found even the 55cm doll to be too big, although I might get another souldoll double because I love their faces. I also like yo size a lot. I adore my pukis too :3 But MSD is so convenient, not too big and not too small! I just wish they had a more mature range of faces along with the childish ones (which I also like!).

    32. I love msd size and tiny.
msd size is most sexy and cute for me and my imagine characters.
tiny size for girl character for me a little sister in the house.very cute at all.
So i plan to have just one sd in.But i can' t say that i can do like i plan.> <

    33. MSD all the way! They're just the perfect size for me. Clothing is more accessible and better priced, their bodies seem more proportioned, things like wigs and eyes are cheaper etc. Mostly I just love the size, not too big, not too small. They're easy to tote around and pose and all that jazz. But that being said I do plan on having an SD someday too. :)

    34. My favorite size has to be tinies. In particular, 1/6 mature tinies are my very favorite size. :DI currently have 3 of that size and have plans for more. I love all of the accessories I can get for them and the rooms I can create. For clothing-I can make anything I want with less than 1/4 yard of fabric-currently I am working on designs by Paul Poiret-and still use my sewing machine.(smaller than 1/6 is all hand work) I have handcrafted weapons and boots for my tiny girls. They can use action figure gear for their adventures. ( I have to put together their Pirate ship.) But, the number one reason that I adore 1/6 scale-27 cm mature tinies is Planet Doll. :fangirl:They give me the beauty of sculpt I want in a size that is easy to manage and spark my imagination. I can take them everywhere because they fit in my tote with props.:fangirl:

    35. The size I prefer to collect in is in the 55-65cm range, mostly because I like the weight and size of them; because they're larger, as well, you can get more detail in their clothes and accessories. It was also the first size of doll I held, and while I was nearly slain by cute when I held my first MSD at a local meet I think the SD+ sizes will always be my favourite. I'm a little wary of dolls in the 70cm range, simply because I'm not a fan of the majority of the bodies - they're just not for me, looks-wise.

Recently, though, I've been rather smitted with Yo-sized wee ones, and even Pukis. I think it's the OMGFADORABLE factor, mostly, and the fact that they're more portable. I don't have one of my own, and I'm still not sure I ever will, but I find it quite easy to live vicariously through the tinys at local meets and through galleries~

    36. I'm fond of the smaller dolls. I didn't think I would be but all of my dolls seem to be smaller.

    37. well in case you can't tell by the title, i have a problem deciding size, i've got from MSD, to SD, down to anthros, back to MSD's and i've just received a littlefee. Now what i want to know is how long it took you to know that size was best for you. i know that there are threads about what size is best for the individual but i'm interested in the amount of time it's taken you to decide, since i'm having the worst time of trying to figure out what size is best for me.

please delete or merge if necessary :sweat

    38. I am not necessarily fond of size ranges but rather I like types of dolls. I got into this because of a Dollfie Dream and created an Obitsu 60cm based character as a foil/companion for my Dollfie Dream. My next doll will likely be an Obitsu 50cm. I am totally sold on vinyl. DDs and Obitsus are arguably just as beautiful as resin, they hold poses well, and they are light for their size when compared to similar size resin. They do have the staining issue, but once you get them into protective suits you can minimize that problem. Knowing how hard it is to sew for 1/6 scale, I suspect that sewing for 1/3 scale and for dolls somewhat in between 1/4 scale and 1/3 scale should be easier.

    39. I knew from the very start that if I wanted a huge creepy doll (as I thought of them when I joined) then I wanted a huge creepy doll: right from the day I signed up to DoA I was convinced I wanted an SD and didn't even bother looking at MSDs or Tinies amongst the various companies... four years later, I'm still sure I made the right decision :3nodding:

    40. I started right out with mature minis, and that's absolutely the best choice for me - for MOST of my dolls. I love SD size also, and I love my two tinies. I like and want to have ALL sizes. It's far easier for me to photograph and manage and STORE mini size (though tinies are even easier on the storage part) but I adore the bigger guys too, and love the SD size best for carrying at cons and such.

So ALL sizes I've tried have been best for me for different reasons - I just prefer for my main crew to be minis since they're the ones to be used most in photostories and are the best size for that for me.

    41. I've had SD, MSD, YO, and a puki and I'm definitely most comfortable with msd and yos...I sold both my puki and sd within a few months because the SD seemed too big to me, plus the body wasn't very posable which was hard to deal with. The puki I sold because I love sewing for my dolls and he was impossible for me to sew for. I like the size of msds and yos, plus I like how they look together. (my msds are all mature minis and range from 16-27 and my two yos are 6 and 10)

    42. I like ALL sizes. But my favorites and the majority of my dolls are mature minis. Easier to manage and pose multiple ones for photos, and much easier to find room for in my house. I love my SD size ones and tinies, too, but will probably always have fewer of them than minis.

    43. Well from the start I loved the 60cm+ boys! SDs was my first love, but I was worried they would be 'too big' and went to get a MSD as my first. A few days upon ordering I realised that if I want a huge doll then nothing but a huge doll will satisfy me. Still I got my MSD and loved him, then I met a friend' SD and just fell in love with the size from then on I go by a 'only SD' rule nearly.

Last year I got my 2 biggest dolls between 65-70cm. I adore that size, 70+ would need some convincing though. Lately I just got my first tiny, at 28cm tall he's far too small but he's adorable and I adore him. Small dolls also have a child' face which isn't what I like. But yes definately SD/13/17 sizes for me.

    44. I'm more about faces than sizes. I prefer big dolls with mature faces and tiny ones with younger or fantasy faces. The one size that does not appeal to me very much is the mature mini doll size. I had a Unoa couple once, but could not bond and sold them.

    45. Ooops, double post.

    46. I've tried all sorts - and types - of dolls and the only ones which seem to stay are the tiny ones, under 20cm, with one exception of my very slim mature msd. I love tinies as I love dollshouses and miniatures and my doll easily slips into a glasses case and goes out with me. I don't understand people who are saying they would be afraid they'd lose a tiny.... I never forget mine is with me, they might be tiny in stature but not in personality. And they are as equally easy/hard to break as big dolls, in fact I am more worried about handling a big doll as they seem more fragile. Anyone who hasn't got a tiny NEEDS ONE ;)

    47. Well, for my first 2-and-a-half years in this hobby, I only collected SDs. Big, beautiful, what's not to love? But I never truly felt content with my collection, even though they were all gorgeous with fabulous characters, wonderful clothes and wigs. I just couldn't put my finger on it but something always seemed "wrong". So I finally worked up the nerve to just sell them all in hopes of figuring out where I had gone wrong...and it worked! Once the big SDs were gone from my house, I suddenly realized that they had simply been too big for me and overpowered their display areas. So I spent this past year focusing on MSDs. Now I dearly love my scaled-down collection...at last it's perfect!

    48. MSD girls and gigantic boys seem to be what I'm drawn to the most. Three out of four of my dolls are MSD girls, the other is an SD girl. Most coveted on my wishlist are three more MSD-sized girls, a few Dollshe boys, a Unidoll, a Mecha Angel...you get my point.

I guess what I like is how little girl-ish the MSDs look when paired (not as a couple) with the bigger dolls, and I think it looks really cute.

    49. I like MSD the most because they seem more stable in posing ^^ also good size! not too big and not too small:)

    50. I've gotta say MSD because my Soulkids = <3, but I also have a Pipos Baha I adore as well as a 27cm Bobobie tiny I just received and I LOVE her size. If I had to settle on just one size though, I'd have to go with MSD. I'll never go bigger than MSD, I think.

    51. I do love all the sizes (I like the variety!) but if I could only ever have one size, it'd be minis. They're just the perfect size for me, small enough to slip into bags and easy to carry without weighing a ton, but also big enough to have a nice feel to them.

    52. SD/SD13. The size is comfortable for me, they're big enough but easy to use. Bigger are tood big for me, and smaller is more complicate to "use" and sew for them.

    53. I have SD's, MDS's, and even a tiny. And out of all of them, my MSD's have been the one's I've caught myself messing around with the most. I like my larger dolls, but I guess I'm just less likely to play with them because they are so much bigger. I think for a while it's going to be more MSD's for me.

    54. I like MSD size dolls, they're cute, light, and able to be brought places easily for photoshoots and other excursions.

    55. I like all sizes, really, though I currently only own dolls 'round the 60cm mark. I like their presence; to me they feel like they really "occupy" a space.

My aims are to own all sizes, though :3 Although, I'm unsure I'd want something bigger than, say, SD17.

    56. most of my dolls are 60-70. i really dont know how to take care of tiny dolls...i mean dressing up or taking pix ,etc

    57. Love the SD's (have 5 of them), but the MDS's are the ones I enjoy the most. I only have two of them with one on the way. My fave doll is my Supia Roda. Her resin is beautiful. What I loved the most was the fast shipping from Supia and the care they take with their dolls and customer service.

    58. I've only ever had a 70cm SD and a 15cm tiny, but I have to say I liked the big guy more! He may have been harder to carry and do stuff with, but he was just so BIG and commanding! Looove~
Though I have played with some MSDs and Yos at meets before, and they're just super cute, too! Eventually I'll just have a doll for every size! XD

    59. I love all my dolls, but I think I prefer Yo-size most. I find my YoSD Yuh to be portable and posable and everything I really want out of a doll. The Yo outfits are super cute too :)

I really enjoy MSD-sized dolls too, but sometimes I can feel very self-conscious when taking them out with me, whereas my Yo is easy to pop out of a bag, pose, photograph and then put back in the bag. Stealth doll :)

    60. I like 70cm and higher. Donno why... may be it's because of gigantomania =_)
