I've got three slim MSD's, one YoSD, and three tinies (one only 10cm tall). They've all got their benefits and drawbacks. My MSD's are easier to make things for, and can use some items made for 18" dolls as props. Tinies are portable and cute, but such a pain to make anything for. There also seems to be less of a selection of things like wigs for them. Finding a 3-4" wig that was what I was looking for for my Illusion Spirit Anita (16cm) took forever. It probably would have been easier if I'd wanted a fantasy look for her. My YoSD is a good size for both portability and not being too hard to sew for. Their proportions are too immature for most of my characters. So I guess slim MSD is my favorite size overall. I could see myself getting an SD at some point, but not making any kind of diorama or display for the doll due to size requirements.
I love the 10/11 cm dolls because they fit Mattel's Kelly clothes, so I have a huge wardrobe for them. I love the 15 cm (PKF size) dolls because for me they're easy to sew for. I love my big boys, because they're big and chunky. I think all I can say is that probably my least favourite size is MSD, which is the size I started with. I thought they'd be a 'happy medium', but I tend to prefer the extremes. And 'least favourite' is relative. I love all of my dolls, and I like having a range.
I love my Tinies (four Lati girls!). But I will soon try YoSD as well. I wonder if this will push me to upgrade to bigger dolls eventually. But I do adore my little baby girls.
MSD is my favorite, particularly the slim minis. However, I love my tinies too. I prefer to sew for them, but I prefer making wigs for my MSDs. I have more MSDs... I have been getting more small dolls lately though so maybe I will change my mind about my favorites lol
I do love the tiny ones. pukifee size are so cute but also like the littlefee size I have been a bit put off by the larger ones as my mum used to collect larger doll (not BJD's) and I have some of hers still so the smaller BJD are better for display for me.
30cm and under! I adore my Soom Teenie Gem, she's absolutely the perfect size for me! I've also had the chance to play with a smaller anthro (a Jr. Pi, I think) for a bit, and again I really liked that size as well. I like the additional sculpting details (dainty fingers) and clothing options that are available for mini sized dolls and bigger, but I'm (somewhat) content with my current slim mini and will most likely continue my focus on collecting smaller sized dolls in the future. They're easier for me to handle and appeal to my love of cute tiny things.
YoSD is my favorite size, because they are reallyyyy small! I love so much all small items, and I would like to make dioramas
I like 1/3 best!Because I like to build up more mature feeling for my doll So 1/3 is the best to express what I want.
I love my YoSD and my MSDs most. It would be a toss up between them. I desperately want to get a smiling Adori twin for my current Adori, so I'm leaning towards YoSD, but my new Kid Delf is super cute too. I love sewing for them and looking at patterns etc for them. I'm keen to work on roomboxes for them over the holidays too. I have 2 tinies which I like, but they aren't the ones I gravitate to. And I have an SD girl I love just because the bf gave her to me for being on my best behaviour during social outings
I like only sd and 70cm+ dolls. The bigger the better. But I think I never buy taller doll than 75cm.
My SD girl is 60cm and I think she is huge! I couldn't imagine having a doll that is 70+cm. It would definitely be easier to sew for them though!
@svc16 60cm is my boy's length from shoulder to feet. ( I measaure it a few days ago because I like to have a 60cm girl. ) I like that he is tall, and heavy. He is my comfort doll. But I don't like to have a girl as tall as he is. It's true that it's easier to make pattern for a bigger doll. And easier to make details an clothes. But otherway I can't make him a dollhouse, because it must be the same size as my own room!
I think a lot of the 1/3 dolls are quite beautiful, and the tinies are adorable, but MSD and 1/4 sized dolls are definitely my favorites! I like having a doll I can hold in one hand, but is also a decent size.
Even thou I have one YoSD and MSD (and I am extremely fond of them), I feel the most comfortable with 60+ and 70+ dolls. My YoSD kitten is the most portable doll I own, because she's so small (and extremely cute), but the bigger dolls are just more my thing. The weight, the details... And creating things for them is a little challenge for me The only "not-so-cool" thing is, when people outside are asking, why is my child so tiny. Eh... Sure, it's my child, but not the one they think it is. xD
My favorite is SD size, 60 to 70cm, I feel they are just the right size and weight, other than it being easier to make clothes and do faceups for bigger size, I also love to hold my dolls or hug them sometimes, so SD is just big enough without being too overwhelming.
I like making clothes for my dolls in my spare time so the 60cm+ ones have quickly become my favorite. I'm thinking of looking into 1/4 dolls but I'm worried they'll seem to small for me. I also like the amount of detail you can put into the bigger ones.
My favorites are SDs, though I'm still waiting on my first SD! I originally thought nothing bigger than an MSD would be in my collection, but I fell in love with a Little Monica Sarubia at Doll North. SDs have such a presence to them, and even though people complain about their weight I love how heavy they are.
I've got all SD size; I love them so much! But recently I've acquired some mature tinies, and I like them too. I can't wait to photograph them and play around with posing and the like; I have big plans! I like SD's because they're far easier to dress, and I feel like I have some weight to the doll I'm carrying.
I tried different formats from tini to 70 + ... I made one conclusion for myself, my size is 60 sd girls and 70+ boys, because they are literally copies of people, it's nice to touch them, sew clothes for them, take pictures on the street, and stuff ... I like their weight and size
I definitely have a preference for MSD so far as size goes, but I enjoy SD sculpts more--just something about the more mature faces I guess? Large dolls intimidate me and I don't really have much space to work with so dolls that are under 50cm suit me much better. I'm just envious of SD clothing haha.
MSDs register like tiny SDs to me, probably because they have a similar weight to them. SDs and MSDs are generally my favorite, but I go through phases where they're super overwhelming and I can only handle something ballpark 30cm. I want to get an MDR Mousse or Littlefee soooo bad to see if a more "standard" size works for me, because 30-35cm is... well... hard to find.
I like SD sizes dolls. They are big (and I like it itself, they look so spectacular) and the most detailed. But also I really addicted to small well detailed adults. They are out of any scales, but they are so cute for me, so delicate)
Favorite to paint is definitely SD, with my hands shaking as bad as they do, I have trouble with tiny detail work. Favorite to carry is Yosd and msd.
My first doll was BID Iplehouse 26cm. I like her size because she was lightweight, but at the same time I don't like her mobility, so I change format to MSD and SD 52cm. Lightweight for me and good mobility. Now I am wish to have Venitu and it woudl be interesting about his weigh for me.
I adore adult dolls, so SD and 70+ were my ideal size since the beginning. After Dollscar I found myself also looking at fashion size dolls, as they are much more portable (and I want to take my dolls with me on vacations) and take less space. I still love the sheer weight and feeling of handling big doll. Also they are simpler to dress up and paint, I guess.
I've come to realize recently that 1/6 scale (but no smaller!) is my style. I have my one super tall girl (74cm) and I don't think I want big dolls anymore that aren't her, because more often then not the stylization is just not my preference. I feel like in 1/6 there's a lot of good choices that are weird and strange and not too babyish for me to be satisfied. That said I wonder if it is a little bit that my SO has a growing 1/3 collection, and being that I'm the primary dolly caretaker in the house (faceup/Restringing/Etc...) I get my fill of working with them!
Once I had a dream to get white Lati. I did it, but when he was at home, I understood that it is not my size of doll at all and sold him.
At the moment I have only one BJD - she is slim MSD. When I bought it, decided to follow this size in future. It is enough small to live in room outside the box, simple to travel, etc. I wanted to buy Minifee as my next doll. But then I've met them - Soom boys with fairy parts in 70+ size... I now I do want one of them. Among benefits of such size - making clothes and accessories is easier, so more choice of such goods on the market. But 70+... I have no idea, where he would live, if I buy it
I only have one 1/3 and one 1/4 so far, I feel like I lean towards liking the 1/3 size slightly more. I think I'll have to decide either when my dolls are fully customized or when I get more dolls. Until then I don't really know!
I love the aesthetic of a lot of bigger dolls, but my preferred size is 1/4. They're easier to carry, display, and store for me. Plus I think it's a cute size!
My first doll was SD sized which I really enjoyed and then I got several Puki's. I didn't think I'd ever get a MSD sized one, and then when I was getting a body for my Cupid Puki I saw the Kid Delf Kiwi Romance version, bought her, and wasn't sure about it until she arrived and I fell in love with her so now I think MSD size is my favorite since they're shorter than SD but don't necessarily look completely like kids
My favorites are 1/4 and 1/6 child size. I like the larger head for eye placement and still small enough to carry and pose easily. I still own dolls in other sizes and I love them. But yea, 1/4 and 1/6 work best for me overall.
I prefer larger sized dolls for customizing, because I suck at painting small "perfect" lines (my miniature painted linework is none existent, something I didn't know until I started painting small dolls). I also prefer larger sized dolls when I'm sewing for them. However, if I was super talented and didn't lack any skill required to sew, modify and paint miniature dolls, I would only want to collect true-to-scale mature 1:6 male dolls, which are not really a thing in BJD styles and I would probably also have a few 1:4 (again mature-true-to-scale). I own a lot more of the larger BJD sizes currently, because I stopped purchasing new dolls nine years ago, and smaller dolls weren't really a thing back then (1:6 mature males are not really a thing yet). I managed to snag a Fairyland ChicLine Rou, who is a bit of a tall 1:5 mature doll, but he's at times a bit too small for me even though I prefer 1:6 in terms of playability. Shorter answer; I rather have BJD in larger sizes for customizing, and smaller ones to "play" with.
i like my girls and boys to be big i tend to stay around 70-75 cm but my fiance had dollfie dreams which ar i think 60 and those are also really good sizes, the bigger the better for me though i sometimes need help with dressing them
My favorite is currently SoulDoll Tera Zenith boys. They're nice and big, with lots of Presence, and almost always fit nicely into any outdoor scenery for photos. Scott - SoulDoll TeraZenith Oscal by aernath, on Flickr
Based on what I've gotten so far, I realize that I love 1/4 scale dolls. They're not too big or small, just perfect for me ^^ However, I don't mind buying other sized dolls
I personally love MSD and SD .. I really love MSD size dolls ,my very first doll was a resinsoul Mei and the main reason I fell inlove was I didn’t know how much bigger they were than barbies, it was the main reason ( I still Have her) now I have more than 20 dolls for sure most are minifees I love dressing them up ..(I don’t feel the same with my resinsoul Mei and my doll levels they’re too skinny for me so now I don’t think it’s the height but the size of body that also add factors to what I prefer).. Recently I’ve been into male bjds but mainly want SD though I have more MSD’s than SD .. mainly cause I feel like it would look cuter on di was to take them out to take photos with me .. I like seeing owners and dolls holding hands or doing activities in photos ❤️ I also have female SD’s apparently I also don’t care about them lol had them for over 2 years and never played with them ( so I’m so weird) In short girls = MSD Guys = SD
I love 16cm size. Maybe it’s the only one I’ve ever had or seen in person but I think anything bigger would be too big for me. They fit in your hand. They are easily portable. The clothes are cute and relatively cheap. They fit with rement. They fit with dollhouse furniture. What more could you ask for!
I love the size of MSD, but the variety of SDs. 1/3rd has a bigger variety of sculpts and heights, I feel, while 1/4th are all so similar to one another. This is particularly true for the boys as far as sculpting. I'd love taller and more masculine boys for msd.
The bigger the better! I only have one who qualifies as a large doll but she's by far the most fun to play with/look at. I find such big dolls fascinating and especially cool and unique. For some reason, it also helps them feel a little more 'alive' to me.
I tried SD, Msd, Yosd and Tinys. My favourite size is Msd I thought SD is not for me and sold the doll (the Body was mess) but I will try it again. I am awaiting a DIM Bellosse. Tiny is definitely not for me, that's why I am currently selling my last one.
I like SDs, both the sculpts and the clothing is my favorite kind. I have one 1/6th, and finding clothes I like for him is a bit of a pain. It's either too baby-ish, which doesn't fit the sculpt he has, or for girls, which again is ARGH. I like the Iplehouse FID, but I will acknowledge that that is setting myself up for frustration in clothing sizes. My Granado guy is enough of a pain, with his wide ass shoulders. Thank god I loved his full set or he'd still be nekkid.
My favorite size dolls are definitely 55cm-70cm. I really love my big dolls and they are my favorite to buy, play with, and hold. However I do also like my 40cm range dolls as well because I have found it is much easier to dress them. It is hard for me to find doll clothes that I like in the bigger size dolls but it is super easy to find stuff for the medium size dolls.
I prefer the SD and 70+ dolls for their mature sculpts. Characters I like to shell are often adults and MSD's and YOSD's rarely look old enough for them. Plus I don't really like to fiddle with tiny tiny things. I'm getting my first and likely only MSD at some point this year or early next. I ordered Grant Phillippe fashion size and I'll have to see how I like his size as compared to my big-uns.
SD is definitely my favorite because of how much more mature they tend to look compared to MSDs and YoSDs
Smaller dolls are easier to sew for when you have no sewing machine, but other than sewing I don't 'do' anything much with my dolls they just sit there. I've had all the sizes apart from 'big baby' (which are on my wishlist) but over the years have sold all of them except my SD sized dolls. I think I prefer my 70cm boys and girls because they have more 'presence' and seem more like companions than playthings - well they are as big as cats! Much less demanding though
I've always wanted to collect SD( 1/3) sized dolls and most of my dolls are in that size but lately, I realized, that I might prefer 1/4 size. Easier to handle, easier to carry, and my dream project, making a diorama for my dolls, seems to be so much easier in MSD size than in SD size (although MSD is still really big). I just don't have enough space in my apartment to do all the stuff I want with my bigger dolls... and My favourite dolls are all MSD...
I prefer 1/3! All my characters tend to be adults and i love the details i can get on 1/3. I also like making 1/3 clothing, its so much easier for me. I can really add so much more to the outfits i make when they're a bigger scale.
I started with a mature tiny, and that's the size I prefer. They're small enough to be easy to carry around, but big enough to sew things for pretty easily. And finding props for them is easy. I've always liked tiny things, but find Puki Puki and Real Puki dolls to be too fiddly to do much with. I'd like to try an MSD, but haven't found the right one yet.
1/6 for me. I want something easy to carry around and it's easier for me to make props or display areas for them(plus they don't take as much room to display). I love looking at bigger bjd's but as soon as I saw a Yosd I knew what I wanted. I have to make my own clothes to get what I want, but that portability is well worth it for me.
