What is the meaning behind your DOA username? Pt.2

Aug 26, 2019

    1. Scarlett comes from professional wrestler Scarlett Bordeaux. And Addams comes from The Addams Family. It's not bad I don't really regret it. But there's so many different things I like sometimes I'm like "Seriously you couldn't think of anything else?!?":doh

    2. it's my cosplay name and one of my OCs!

    3. my name is aiwa and I bring trouble :evilplot:
      "oh! no! aiwa!!!!"
well more like I say/do a lot of things that make my friends say things like "aiwa, no!!!!" or "oh no..."
it's a name I use pretty much everywhere and funny enough it first started as my username for a nsfw blog but I liked it so much it spread to all platforms I use!

      • x 2
    4. My initials and birthday - it’s my standard username for everything because it literally stands for me lol

      • x 1
    5. Just a nickname if my first and second name.

    6. When my husband and I first started dating, I found this fluffy rainbow unicorn pillow pet for $10 so I like...had to have it. We were sending each other cute pictures so I decided to take a cute picture of me with the rainbow unicorn pillow pet. I sent it to him and he said "you're a cute little flufficorn" and bam. Just like that. There's my internet handle. I use this name wherever I possibly can.

    7. Mine is very simple

In japan there's this day of the month called meat day which is on the 29th because 2 (ni) 9 (kyu)

So my name just means meat meat

I love beef and i used to work in a yakiniku shop whereby my username was 2929 so i took that and implemented it into my IG

    8. You could say your name is a "meat" cute. :P

      • x 3
    9. My name everywhere is usually Avenged Peanut, but I wanted something simple for here and dropped the Avenged part of the name and kept 'Peanut'. This was a name a friend of mines gave me years ago. She said something along the lines of "I'm the jelly and you're the peanut butter and together we just stick." She would call me Peanut and I would call her Jelly. I took the peanut from that and added Avenged before it. The Avenged half came from one of my favorite bands. And ever since that I used the name everywhere. But, here I'm just called Peanut.

    10. Ooo ooo!! Mine is an undertale character! It’s the weird mutant dog creature from the science lab. A few years ago I played the game and thought it was really cute, so now on a bunch of sites i have this user. Lol

    11. My real name is Tamara, and when I was 14 I loved the singer Miyavi Ishihara. So, I got his Second name for my nickname, and I think it sounds consonant :D

    12. 80s Strawberry Shortcake character I Loved as child. The character Figboot reminds me a lot of myself. Lol
It is a cute chubby purple dinosaur looking thing who is shy, sweet and loves to eat. :D

    13. September 13th is a special date for me and it was an interesting way to write the numbers.

    14. Dancing fox spirit, to which, I was a weeaboo as a teenager. It was my handle all over the internet back in the early 2000's. Now I use "Queen Pierrot" everywhere, and boy what I wouldn't give to change my username here on DOA :(

    15. Ashe Faust is a name I made up as an alias to use for art-related things, since I'm not exactly fond of my legal name. Since it kinda became my "brand" as an artist, I just use it for everything now pretty much. It's essentially become my online identity.

"Ashe" was taken from the character of the same name from FE3H, actually :XD: "Faust" was taken from an OC of my mine who has it as her last name -- Risel Faust, who I actually shelled as a BJD now. It kind of makes it seem like we're related, which is a bit weird imo but I can't really change it now

When choosing the name Faust for my Risel, I actually found it in a list of german surnames, since she was supposed to be german before I changed her story to a fantasy one. Faust was (in legend) a german magician who made a deal with the devil to attain all the knowledge in the world. I ended up using this "lore" as part of my OC worldbuilding, too

    16. In is my usial nickname for friends ))Also it is "turtle" in Japanese)

    17. I was really into anime in my early teens and loved the manga/anime Keroro (Sgt. Frog) and made my own frog persona called Yususu. Then I would change it to Yu-chan 'cause I thought it sounded cute and 92 my year of birth that I sometimes would add since most times there was already someone out there who picked Yu-chan before me. Nowadays I just go by Yus.

    18. Shadeling Sanguine was my pseudonym for the longest time, until I started a tumblr, actually! Shadeling was taken, so I went with the latin name for a magpie, Corvus Pica Pica, which is my current username I have elsewhere.

A small part of my wants to change it here to match, but I'm not super fussed over it. <3

    19. I was a 16-year-old obsessed with anime & Keiko from Yu Yu Hakusho was my favorite character :XD: 13 years later it doesn't really fit anymore, and it feels weird when people start up the debates over whether usernames like mine are appropriate, but it feels like I've had it too long to change it now & it would feel a bit like erasing that part of my life. My username here makes me smile because it reminds me of little me :)

    20. This has been my screen name since like 1995 on AOL, maybe even 1994! I even use it for my "professional" email address

    21. I wish I could remember why I chose this! I've always been terrible about not putting much thought into my usernames/not keeping them cohesive across platforms and this is no exception. It means "the street" in french, and we can only wonder about why that appealed to me in 2009... It's very on-brand for me in that regard. Something impulsive that maybe had some deeper meaning to it once (but let's be honest: it probably didn't), but either way I can't remember any more and now I'm stuck with it.

    22. Literally it means "grass bird" in Finnish, but it's also a character in an old Finnish lullaby. Gives off a wistful vibe, bit sad but nostalgic.
      So basically pretty & homey.

    23. Same name I've been using everywhere for many years now. The serpentyle torc is a loot item from Thief Dark Project. I was really deep in Thief lore for a while and wanted something associated with it, so I picked one that sounded nice. I've gotten so used to it I go by Torc even irl sometimes:lol:

    24. I have a couple of usernames I use and most of them are of some kind of royalty because I love the whole medieval kings and queens things. :)
I even made what I called a fake manga and it was in a kingdom ruled by a monarchy and in the kindom was also ruled by smaller royalty. I had made it years ago when I was a kid and now I want to make some of my ocs into bjd!

    25. My user name is my German Shepherd's name. For her, Fayre means beautiful and while she's wild, she is.

    26. Way back in the Dark Ages when the internet had just started to catch on. I was very very into wolves, but I (of course) didn't want anything that was spelled properly cause that's not Cool (ahh, high school....). So I became brytewolf, and have used that user name ever since, everywhere. I feel more comfortable being called "bryte" than anything else, but that's a whole other kettle of issues xD

At least I get to avoid the whole "what do I call myself this time" question. I'm terrible at naming things lol.

    27. It’s from an anecdote about a famous writer and his best friend going rowing. The boat was a piece of junk and they kept falling into the water, hence the soaking of souls…

I’ll have to find the exact quote sometime, I first read about this years ago

    28. Mine is a long-time username that actually started as a throwaway - when baby internet me first joined a forum, I was shy and nervous to talk to people so I didn't want it associated with my username at the time (how the tables have turned).

It's basically an English-ified version of "tsuindoriru," the Japanese version of Twin Drill(s), based off of my favorite-at-the-time Kasane Teto. Because of my presence on that forum, the name stuck, and I ended up making a mascot with twin drills to match (my icon). I wish I had corrected it to Tsuin much earlier, because now "Tween" has stuck and I'm not super fond of it (lol)

I then started to separate my accounts into life vs. art, where the former accounts would stay Tweendoriru and the latter would become Dorirudotnet/Doriru.net. Doriru is the name of my mascot and also a nickname for me online so now it's definitely not going anywhere!

    29. Just a nickname I’ve always used online and whenever I wrote since I was a middle schooler. Ellie is short for my real name

    30. That name sounds interesting and the story behind it too. I don't know what RP chat room is. Is it like DOA? An online place to chat, but what does RP stand for? Does it still exist? My username is a reference for a BTS song called Epilogue: Young Forever. There is a line that goes forever we are young.

It seemed like a username I won't regret years later, since I can't change my username on DOA. That's how I ended up with my username. Also I wanted it to be a reference to BTS as well, but not be so obvious. I thought it was a good username that I would like and not regret.

I just realized maybe rp stands for role playing because i notice a lot of people on DOA seem to role play... is that what rp stands for?

    31. It's a Doctor Who reference. Humans (specifically Rose) are pink and yellow.

    32. i made this account 9 years ago but pretty much abandoned it until 2020 when i fully got back into the hobby so while i can't tell you why i chose the name i can tell you that the enchiridion of Epictetus is a short collection of of ethical advice compiled by Arrian a 2-end centaury Greek philosopher so i was probably going through a very pretentious phase

    33. I made this account when I was... 13? And going through my Linkin Park phase lol. It was the latest album at the time and the username happened to not be taken. Could've been worse, at least this username isn't immediately recognisable as that :sweat

    34. Yes, RP meant "role-playing" without the G for "game" because we weren't using a standard game system most of the time. Way back then we were using AOL chatrooms for it (which did in fact have a random-number-generating function we could use). I don't even know if they exist anymore. I've used her for minor silly RP during events on GaiaOnline as well, but it's been a while. I've just almost always used OC names everywhere I go online.

But this reminds me I STILL haven't gotten around to dying my Leda! :sweat I've been busy, but also too worried about messing it up. Somewhere I've got some mini-dice for her too.

K-Pop is fun! I've been enjoying it a lot more than the US music scene in recent years, but I missed a lot of the earlier stuff.

    35. I opted for something simple and easy to remember. I might have pulled it as an obscure reference to some J-drama, but it's stuck since then.

    36. “Lofi” is a kind of music I love to listen to, and “Oscar” is the name of my ResinSoul Mei. (Oscar got her name from “The Rose Of Versailles” manga. I have never read it, but I like the character.)

“Lofi Oscar” is also kind of like “Lofi Girl”, the mascot of the Youtube channel where I first discovered lofi.

    39. I don't think I've answered this before so here goes.
I use and have used this username or some variation of it nearly everywhere that isn't strictly work-related.
I love Japanese, was always (and continue to be) quite small and I like rats thus Chibi Rat.

    41. Back from my
      a) serious obsession with Tolkien’s Silmarillion and playing with elvish name generators
      b) neurotic desire to have every possible account with the same username

It’s way over 10 y.o. and means something very pretentious like „starlight’s heir”.

I prefer to shorten it for „Sil” now but have grown fond of it over the years and managed to claim it along many sites - I have no idea what its like to have your desired username taken, haha.

If you find any „silmaryel” elsewhere on the Web, it’s 99% chance it’s me ;)

    42. 1) errantry
: the quality, condition, or fact of wandering
: a roving in search of chivalrous adventure

      2) err
      : to make a mistake
: to violate an accepted standard of conduct
      archaic : to stray

      3) knight-errant (very much in error)
According to Don Quixote, a knight-errant also needs a lady to love, and he selects a peasant girl from a nearby town, christening her Dulcinea del Toboso. Thus accoutred, he heads out to perform deeds of heroism in her name.

      4) Errantry (speaking of Tolkien obsessions...;))
He sat and sang a melody
      his errantry a-tarrying;
      he begged a pretty butterfly
that fluttered by to marry him.
She laughed at him, deluded him,
      eluded him unpitying;
      so long he studied wizardry
      and sigaldry and smithying.
      He wove a tissue airy-thin
to snare her in; to follow in
      he made a beetle-leather wing
      and feather wing and swallow-wing.
      He caught her in bewilderment
      in filament of spider-thread;
      he built a little bower-house,
      a flower house, to hide her head;
he made her shoes of diamond
      on fire and a-shimmering;
a boat he built her marvellous,
      a carvel all a-glimmering;

    43. I've been using my user here on other platforms for a while now, my family had made their way to Canada on the ship the Mayflower, which I thought was kinda cool and it's a pretty name. Ik it's not cool in historical context but I love history and learning stuff about my family. And I graduated in 2019 so yeah

    44. The first 2 letters, of my user name, are the last 2 letters of my first name.
The the last 4 is from the title of a classic children's story. .

    45. Okay so I have been on DOA since 2006 and at the time when I created my account I was in High School. So my username can be broken down as follows.

Goth - My style at the time... I was somewhere between Goth and Emo.
Pony - I owned and rode horses for YEARS and at the time I had 3.
Doll - This is a reference towards ABJD!

So basically.... Goth kid who owns horses and loves dolls. It's ended up sticking and is also my username on a bunch of other forums etc. that are not ABJD related.

    46. Sanar is the name I chose for my elven mage inquisitor when I played Dragon Age Inquisition. I also have a tendency to put words into translators and see what comes out.

'Sanar' is apparently a Spanish word for "heal". I wanted a name that sounded like it could be an obscure elven name, and Sanar just fit to me. She is a person who tries to do what she can to ease suffering as she interprets it, and prefers to remain neutral to avoid conflicts. She doesn't see herself as a leader, but people seem to be drawn to her and often seek her counsel. She considers Cole and Cassandra to be her best friends. Although she was on friendly terms with Solas, they disagreed frequently, leading Sanar to view him as a disapproving father. She did enjoy their conversations though, especially when defending her reasons for her actions and invariably putting him in his place :XD:

This is the first place I've used the name online. It's simple and recognizable I think, and that's good enough for me :XD:

    47. To be completely honest, I was in high school when I made this account 7 years back and can't remember where this name came from for the love of me. Means exactly what it says though.

    48. I wanted to start using different nicknames for different things for privacy reasons, but I wanted it to be more personal than say something like "bjd-account-486412" so I figured it should be somehow related to my "main" character and her story. I thought that since she was the main character she would surely be the least likely to change name or style or anything, but in reality, I think she ended up being the very first in my collection to do that. :sweat

Well, I have decided to keep the name Saga on that doll simply because it's too stuck on her, however, all the character she had I've since shelled to my Impldoll Sicily that I'm not quite sure yet what I'll name her, but she just doesn't look like a Saga at all so I couldn't have just simply changed the whole shell with its name included. But, to explain the actual meaning (when I came up with it) behind the name Sagastree, "Saga's tree", it referred to the story in that she planted a magical tree from which some of the other characters were born from, as well as to her family tree that consisted of the rest of the characters. I've since pretty much abandoned the magical tree part of the story, but in other ways trees and the forest she lives in continue to be fairly relevant parts of the story.

Granted, the doll that continues to be named Saga has a small relation to trees/forest in the way of mostly dressing up in mori girl style, so my name can almost still make some sense at least. And I guess in a way it was good that the character itself changed name because it might be why I was finally able to get a grasp on her personality, which is... well, shortly put, she's a horrible person. :sweat So horrible that although her name would make more sense in my own nickname (due to her still being one of the main characters), I really wouldn't want to even sort of share the name with her character at all.

    49. Well there's the obvious, that I'm the "black sheep" of the family. I have unusual interests (my icon is a picture I took myself, just one item in a very large collection) and don't get along with a lot of my family members. It's between being ostracized and purposefully keeping my distance.

But then there's the reason that I just really, really love sheep. :)

    50. It's the name I've largely gone by in most corners of online fandom for several years now. At the time I picked it, I was very, very into Soviet Space History (and I still am) - but it's a phrase from a poem by Yevgeny Yevtushenko about the turmoil of the 20th century.

    51. The easy explanation I give is that Jaedian was my first Dungeons & Dragons character, which she really was, but there's more to the story than that.

I remembering being like 13 or so, and I had just read The Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop, but I was upset because the romance I wanted wasn't the one it got. But I was already into roleplaying online at the time, sooo...I made a character that could have been their daughter. "Jae" came from Jaenelle, one of the main characters of the series, and the "-dian" was more me being extra and seeing that the race of Lucivar - the guy I wanted her to be with - the females all had names that ended in "-ian".

      Ta-dahhh, secret confession complete.

    53. Blodeuwedd is the name of a deity from Welsh mythology/folklore, it means ‘flower face’. It has several different spellings and is apparently pronounced Blod-i-eth I think….I’m Scottish not Welsh and only know of that pronunciation through a folk song. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m usually known as Blod for short wherever I use it.

Like many others I’ve been using this name or a version of it for many many years. I first learned of her in the Slaine stories in the 2000 AD comics that my brother bought. The stories have a lot of Celtic myth woven into them and Blodeuwedd was used to depict the maiden aspect of the triple goddess. I became fascinated by this beautiful, woman with flowers in her hair. I then learned a bit more about her sad tale.

The short version of her legend is that a man was cursed by his mother that he could not take a mortal woman for a wife so instead they summoned or brought one forth by creating her out of certain flowers.
The man in question became a king and was away a lot leaving this poor creature by herself and she fell in love with another. They plotted to kill the King which involved some specific steps and an elaborate plan (as they always do in mythology) but were caught as they tried to execute it. For her punishment Blodeuwedd was turned into an owl.
Some see that story as a moral tale against infidelity and fickleness but I don’t. I see it as a reminder that you cannot enslave nature and make it do your bidding. You cannot expect a wild thing to follow your rules, she doesn’t understand them. She may have been bound to him but her heart and soul were not.

Blodeuwedd may not be as well known as the likes of The Morrigan or Cerridwen but she is still associated with late springtime, the May queen, the blossoming of Hawthorn and other spiritually important plants.

    54. My nickname since the mid 90's has been Blizzard (Blizz for short) and even partner calls me by that name (It was not inspired by either the gaming company, nor the frozen treat). Az came initially from Azazel (my call sign), which was shortened to Az (I don't live in Arizona). Together "Blizzard of Az" is a reference to Ozzy's album Blizzard of Oz.

I used to always put underscores between the words but I mistyped when I signed up for DOA years ago and got a dash in there instead and they wouldn't let me change that.

    55. Mokosza (Mokosh) (Old East Slavic: Мóкошь) is a Slavic goddess, protector of women's work and women's destiny. She watches over spinning and weaving, shearing of sheep, and protects women in childbirth. She is the Mother Goddess.
