What is the meaning behind your DOA username? Pt.2

Aug 26, 2019

    1. I use this screenname on most online accounts. I was in the Elder Scrolls fandom for many years, and primarily wrote fanfic involving Telvanni wizards, who use the titles 'Master' and 'Mistress.' Arachnia comes partially from the Elder Scrolls spider goddess Mephala, Captain Janeway's holodeck character in Star Trek Voyager 'Queen Arachnia of the spider people,' and the fact that my personality growing up was often likened to Charlotte of Charlotte's Web (who was my icon for many years). Plus, I'm a writer... so... it seemed appropriate on many levels.

      -------- Added notes -------

      * Part 1: What is the meaning behind your DOA username?

    2. This is a fairly new name for my online shenanigans. It’s a shortened version of my old tumblr name moonsugarkisses, which is based on a song - Lips Like Sugar by Echo and The Bunnymen and the substance moonsugar from the Elder Scrolls games which the Khajit (a playable cat people) absolutely love!

I like it a lot so I’ve changed most of my social media to versions of it. I no longer use tumblr so if you see someone using it, that’s not me.

    3. I used to be a HUGE Mystic Messenger fan and the character Saeyoung Choi was and is my favorite. The "00" refers to a shirt I bought on Etsy that was kind of like a jersey that read
      "SAEYOUNG
00" Then I began using the username everywhere like here

    4. I was heavily involved with theater when I was in high school, and I was between online identities back then. I had outgrown my first username, but I hadn't fallen into my current one yet, and I was looking for something that I wouldn't be ashamed to have following me around "forever," as it were, because of the feedback threads. Thus, Thespian was born.

    5. My username is pretty simple and was chosen because it was silly. It’s the romanization of the Japanese for the orange drink, Orangina and my name is Gina. I would always say, “My name is Gina, like the drink!” When I taught elementary school in Japan. I’d always get a laugh. I have no actual attachment to the drink though.

    6. I've just started using this one on a lot of different sites over the past year or so, its from my favorite character from a series I really love.

    7. I’ve used this one in a small number of other places. It’s actually based on a character from a favorite game of mine. It’s specifically part of a team name you can choose late in the game.

    8. Don't think I've ever answered this here.
Sianserais (or Serai for short) is one of my oldest still relevant OCs (and SNs) created for RP chatrooms back in the early 90s. Originally an itinerant swordswoman with minor magical abilities granted by the lunar goddess, she's had two major rewrites since then. I already own a grey Iplehouse Tatiana to shell her lunar-sprite incarnation (essentially an elemental spirit born of moonlight on the ocean), and I recently ordered a Leda whom I intend to dye lavender to be her character from my main writing project.
I don't know if I'll change my avatar image when she's complete or not... she's not a main character after all. Jai (my Felix) is.

    9. I’d had gaming names of course, but was never really involved with social media prior to joining Den of Angels way back in 2006. So I thought getting a special name to represent myself here was a very big deal.:) I thought long and hard about it before coming up with PoeticSoul, and chose that name because it represented how I saw my potential creativity in the hobby...creating dolls that were each like a visual poem, a collage of individual elements that would come together to tell a single story.

    10. I use Nellychan19 for everything, but I added the _BJD so that I could have a more specific Instagram ^^ I wanted a separate doll account so that my cats wouldn't lose followers!

    11. Oooh, this is fun.

Back when I was a teen, I really, REALLY loved coffee and anything caffeine. So I was like "Hey, Caffeine a la Mocha sounds pretty neat, it's kind of like a la mode only with caffiene and mocha!"

I kind of wish we could change our names because now I have a business name and everything that's way different and doesn't really match my current username, but this name still gives me a smile when I see it. :3nodding:

    12. Mines a shorting of my name based on the only nickname that I remember from high school which was “Chellfish” well other than “Row”. It stands out to me because I’ve never really had any nicknames.

I would never use my name in a forum but I struggle to be happy with user names that don’t have a relation to my name.

    13. In high school a lot of kids only knew me as "sloth girl" because I had a stuffed sloth backpack that I wore every day to school (and still have him! His name is Karl Marx) and I also tended to do a lot of weird stuff in the art room. I tended to choose a lot of usernames based off of sloth-themed puns, but I tried to move away from that in college and went with this pretty pretentious name "entropicquartz". I absolutely hated it, so I just decided to marry the two and came up with slothquartz. Still kind of hate the quartz part but hey they can't all be winners.

    14. Mine's from my deviantArt account because I'm a lazy lemon-head. XD

It's pretty simple; real is one of my favorite colors and I love tea! It also has a calming name, which is fairly suitable for my art style...I think.

    15. Normally when I have to make usernames I take a random word and change/add random letters to the point it becomes gibberish. Kosmyst comes from cosmos
      Cosmos-> kosmos->kosmys-> kosmyst
My username is a little bit cheesy but I came up with it when I was 15 and it has a nice sound to it^^ so I have always used it

    16. My username does not have any interesting meaning. I wish I had been more creative or used my old usernames I had in other forums. Back in the days when I first started to learn Korean I wanted a Korean name and my friend gave this name to me. It is not a "real" name, just combination of characters, but it sounds kinda cute.

    17. Mine is the same name I use EVERYWHERE :XD: occasionally it changes slightly, like UlixesC, Ulixes_ etc, but it's always this name.
The name itself was just a bunch of letters I threw together when creating a new character in a video game years ago. I thought it sounded pretty nice so it stuck!
And despite the fact it's just random letters I threw together, it still is already in use on more sites than I expected :doh

    18. My dog’s name and my lucky number :)

    20. My user name means I was clueless. DoA was the first forum I ever joined, and up until then the only user names I knew of were for site logon purposes. So I used one that I had on other sites, figuring it would be easy to remember, and not realizing that I would be stuck with it as my name forever more. :doh

    21. I have always love the mental image of a unicorn with a chainsaw for a horn. It's really as simple as that.

    22. I feel like I answered this before, but I will again anyway!
My username, for all my doll related accounts, is SacredMonsoon. Which came from two Tokio Hotel songs, something I seriously loved back in 2009. I still love it, my username has never been something I didn't like, it's pretty and calming, much like my dolls. So, I like it! ;)

    23. I came by this name when I was given a game account by a friend. At first I took it for granted but eventually I realized it sounded catchy and unique. That was when I decided to use it for most my online accounts. Believe it or not, this name does not appear on any sites when Googled (except my accounts obviously)

    24. Mirrorcle World is the name of a song by singer Ayumi Hamasaki. I'm not sure of the meaning of the song lyrics, but I really love it :)

    25. I use this name on most social media. Baras are basically the Japanese equivalent of a (gay) bear. (A rly good example is Gengoroh Tagame's art but NSFW warning) So like bigger gay dudes lol Sometimes they're shown as just being rly buff and others more so the like strongman chubby buff? Not long after I accepted I'm trans I got rly into the idea of working for a strongman body type? I'm currently a pretty soft and chubby dude, but that buffer bara aesthetic is something that's become sort of a long term transition goal. So I'm currently, a soft dude who hopes to be a bara lol

    26. My DOA username is basically an English translation of my nickname in real life.:XD: Didn't think much when I created an account here.:XD:

    27. My comes from Greek mythology,
Hades (also known as Haides, Aides, and/or Aidoneus) is known as the God of the Underworld.
As an avid history and mythology lover,
I fell in love with Hades when I heard about him and of his fate to rule the Underworld.
Personally, I believe he is misunderstood by people and did I mention he is my favourite God of all mythology?
As the username Hades was taken, I settled for Haides, which is also good :thumbup.

    28. It's just a short version of tohoshinki, which is the group name of the two men in my display picture. funnily, granado once made a head that resembles one of the members :whee:

    29. I... love my SD :XD:

    30. Mine is based off of my pen name and the fact that I like French and faeries. Fun fact, I made this name before I was truly interested in Fairyland dolls so I didn't even really know about minifees or anything when I made it.

    31. Uhm it's kind of a lame otaku thing, I got it from Mizuki Ashiya, the main character of the manga/drama Hanazakari No Kimitachi E (or HanaKimi, "For You In Full Blossoms"). She's really cute and it's my favorite manga and I liked the name :sweat I haven't actually read a lot of manga so I don't consider myself an otaku... But I still use the name sometimes when I need a name for something hahah
Now "Elciled", that's my "artist" name that I got from the names of my 2 grandmothers, I just mixed them until I created this weird sounding thing.

    32. Mine was the name of a cow I had back when I played minecraft

    33. It's my name irl, very creative, I know :p

    34. It's my username in an online game I play that's related to dragons.... It's a mashup of Dovahzul, the dragon language in Skyrim, and Elvhen, ancient elven language in Dragon Age, my two most favourite games. It translates as "My Dragon Heart" (elvhen dovahzul elvhen). Fun fact, reversing the languages (dov elv dov) the name would be "Dii Isenatha Rii".

    35. When I was 11/12 I played a little chat website that is now gone,it was a cute avatar game. There were many Darths in it. We had SithPizza,DarthCupcake,DarthWaffle etc and I was DarthPancake. Have used it ever since :)

    36. Thinking of a username is the bane of my existence. No matter how hard I try, I can't ever think of a name. They always sound to cringy to me for some reason. So, I just used a random username generator. Didn't like any of the names it came up with, but I combined parts of two suggested usernames that I thought will sound pleasing to the ear. Even back then I thought it sounded kind of cringy, but it was the only username that stuck in my memory. Alas, Unknown Madness was born.

    37. I made a youtube account when I was 9. At the time, i liked this really edgy picture editor named Darkchu. Me, wanting to be noticed by senpai, made my name something equal, Witch and Pikachu thrown together to make Witchachu. Senpai ended up abandoning the channel but the name was so unique, it has stuck with me forever as a username I know nobody else will have

    38. My name is just the german word for froglegs because aren't frogs cute? And because it makes me giggle when i imagine how people try to spell it.

    39. The name I'm using here is also the pen name of my fanfiction account on FF that I made back in 2008. I haven't touched that account in years because I'm on Ao3 now and I like it better (I have a different username there though). Anyway, back in 2008 I was a sophomore in high school and I had just started taking Latin! I remember either our teacher told us, or I had read it or heard it somewhere, that Monday in Latin was "Diana's Day" (Diana being the moon goddess in the Roman pantheon, taken from the Greek Artemis). I've always loved Roman and Greek mythology, and I especially love moon goddesses because they are depicted as proud and silent, dark and mysterious loners, which is what I fancied myself to be as well. So I decided that my name would be a tiny celebration of Diana, because I identify with her a lot and I hope she's having a good time out there on the moon.

    40. I'm named after a type of magical creature from the Harry Potter series. 'Chizpurfle carapaces' are mentioned as a potion ingredient, and that phrase just stuck in my head for many years after first reading it. I think it's pretty catchy. I use both Chizpurfle and Chizpurfle Carapace as usernames in different places.

    41. Mine is the name of a Kate Nash song I liked as a teenager, One of those songs you say "that's so me" too
I've used it for different accounts over the years so It just made sense to use it on DOA as well

    42. Mine is from "Lenore" by Edgar Alan Poe. I am a Poe fangirl :D

    43. My art handle is TithorDacis which roughly translates to "tree of death" in one of my husband's constructed languages that I really like. My doll handle was meant to be a twist on that and be "tree of life", but I just used my first doll's given name with a Latin first declension nominative ending instead. So, TithorArgentus!

    44. I'm a name nerd (as in, I like collecting interesting and beautiful names and learning about their meaning and history) and most of my usernames are one or two names I like. Both of these names are ancient Roman.

      • x 2
    45. I've been using this name on and off. It's a nicer way of saying "Poison Ivy."

      • x 1
    46. When I created the username, I was into Stargate SG-1 a lot (I still am). Since my favourite character is a so-called Jaffa, I wanted a name that sounds like it's a girl from this race. That's why there's actually an Apostroph in my name (Kin'ril), but I don't write it out when registering somewhere because it might lead to problems :)

      • x 2
    47. It's not something special, just my writing nickname and I used it everywhere. From The Sims to forums...
It's not a true presudo, I just love it. It has no meaning at first, but I just tried to grant this name a meaning myself.

    48. Mine is simply "user name" spelled backwards! I use it all over the place. When I first started using it I wasn't feeling terribly creative, I also noticed there's tons of other "eman resu"s around as it's a low hanging fruit for lazy names on most sites, so I feel like it gives me just a touch of extra anonymity around the internet which is comforting. Sometimes it varies what numbers come after it or if any do at all.

    49. My username is a collective of all the wrong grammar rules in Japanese. Koumori is bat. I misspelled that on purpose. The dot is because I couldn't stick a hyphen there. The san is a way of addressing someone, in this case genderless ms. or mr. The "O" is my take on a "o" being added to a name or title in reverence. Put that puzzle together, and it cobbles out.....the great mr.bat. lol.

    50. I use Byte for pretty much all my social media so... might as well carry on the trend!

    51. I don't remember if I've answered this here or not. Kyarwon (pronounced kee-AHR-won) is the name of one of my OCs, and I use it for a lot of my social media and other sites.

    52. I use this or some combination of it for my online accounts, as it’s usually not taken. IDk why I use and like it so much. It’s just such a fun word!

    53. I use this user name on most sites that I sign up for. It’s really important to me because fuailei was my Chinese name before I got adopted. Fu being my last name and Ailei (Ah-lay) being my first.

    54. This name originated as my Gaia online username, Amari Gemerald, which later turned into my gaming/art handle.
Gem is short for Gemerald (shortened because I’m lazy lol). It’s a mix of Gem and Emerald that my sister came up with (because my fav color is green). :clover
Amari was chosen randomly as a name that sounded good with Gemerald. I’m pretty sure its stolen from Amari Nobunaga in Inuyasha.

    55. I wish I had meaning behind my user name but I think mine is pretty self-explanatory lol I just love books and tea and felt like I wanted a change from my usual username I have had on other forums.

Such a lovely thread as I felt as I was reading that I was getting an insight on why they chose their name and who people were.

    56. It is the same tag I use for everything... Haven't changed it since... Well ever really :D At this point more people know me by it than by my birth name I bet :D
As for the history - it was a joke originally - Shodan is the main villain of System Shock 2 - a female supercomputer who thinks she is a god, so it was funny to tag myself that way in chats :) Of course once I started to use it more I needed it to be a bit more unique - hence the difference in spelling.
Fun fact - shodan is althou a karate dan, a level of skill so to speak, so the name can't really be copyrighted, hence I can use it as my work tag as well. Not something I thought about when I started using it, but fortunate not the less :)

    57. i have NO goddamn idea what this name means. I made it like, 3 years ago, left the site, and only came back a few months ago. I love lemonade though, so that might be part of it? it's cute either way lol

    58. Ying Xin is my mandarin given name. Im debating using it for college, but at the same time the cantonese version is easier for westerners to pronounce and its what my grandma called me. Its just that i dont know cantonese. I at least know a bit of mandarin fjfjdjd

edit: cantonese version is wing yun

    59. I think kyubey is cuter in the manga. I'm not that deep, haha

    60. It's an old default online name I've had for years. All my usernames have some sort of animal theme to them, and okami means wolf in Japanese plus the numbers have meaning that was relevant at the time but meaningless now. lol
