(sorry if there is already a thread like this! >w<) To explain my question clearly, most of us do photoshoots with our dolls and if you've had your doll(s) long enough, you must have a lot of photos accumulated into your computer. What do you do with all of them? File them in folders and leave them there for viewing pleasure? Do you delete them once they get to old? Do you make prints of them and hang them on your wall? Please share! As for me I do file my photos in my computer (it's all under "Dollspam" lolol), but if it's been long enough I usually delete some of the photos and keep the best ones intact. I have so many though, I hope I don't crash my computer lol (I guess I could put them on an external harddrive). Lately, I've been thinking about printing some of the best pics and making a photobook. I just thought that'd be a cute and crafty idea. ^.^ EDIT: Oooh, I thought of another question. For those that have sold your dolls over the years, do you still keep the photos of your old dolls? Or do you throw those away when you sell the doll?
I load nearly everything to photobucket, for easy access when I want to share something, and when I've got enough of any specific doll, I'll burn them to CDs or DVDs and remove those that have been burned off from the computer itself. That way, I still have them all, can easily access photos of any given doll, and have them organized, too.
I just take the photo, post it, and sometimes look at it. Other than that it really just sits there and I go on to taking my photos. Lately I have been thinking that I should delete the old ones.
I have them in folders on my computer. I really need to sort through them, as there are some I don't need anymore.
I take them, file them, leave them for 6 months or so, go back and keep the best ones and delete the others. Even after doing that I still have over 3,000 pictures of two dolls, I imagine I'd have over 7,000 if I never deleted any. Why do I wait that long to delete, you ask? Laziness? No. It's because I tend to be too hard on myself when first viewing the pictures. I look at it after taking it and go 'Hmm, this really isn't that good.', but if I come back and look at it months later, I sometimes have a new opinion of the picture, 'The detail of the shot isn't great, but this angle and pose is pretty cute. I'm glad I didn't delete this.' When I get better at photography, I do plan to print out some of my favorites and hang them on my wall and perhaps make a scrapbook for time-wasting sake. A cute photostory might even arise from it, having the dolls help me make it or something. I'd probably include commissioned art of them in it, too. Like the picture in my avatar, which is the Lin twins I'm working on saving for.
I like to take the pictures, look through them and upload my favourites to DA and sometimes Photobucket. Then I store them in a folder and look back at them. I can never bring myself to delete them D: I love looking back at the memories and seeing how much they've changed ^ ^
I keep the pictures of my old dolls. In some ways, they are more precious to me than pictures of current dolls. Pictures of current dolls can be taken again, sold dolls cannot.
like the rest, I took at least 5 pictures of one shot, then select the better ones and keep that on discs, and the best of those I print to put on my album, not on a big size at least the pic is perfect, but just small ones, almost 20 on one page ^^U... I don't know how to take good photos so I delete a lot fo my pics at least one a day, and that's why I don't keep a lot of them... but even then I have at least 2 discs of pics now XD-
For every photoshoot I do I have a folder with the subject and date (eg: Deathbunnie New Eyes May 28) all in my "BJDs" folder on my external hard drive. I don't store any data on my computer itself except for things I'm working on directly on my desktop. I also have a load of picture on my laptop since that is the computer with photoshop I typically delete the raw images and keep only the few good ones that I edited and posted on Photobucket. Saves a ton of space that way.
I save the photos in files on my computer organized as Doll Folder > (their name) Folder (and keep a back up on my hard drive), but I don't save every picture I take because I take way too many for that. I go through them and delete the ones I really hate and only keep the ones from a shoot that I really love. I have thought about getting prints of some and hanging them in my "doll room" but I haven't did it yet. I also thought about making a photo book to keep in my doll room of my favorite photos of each one...just because those are special memories with me and my dolls and I think it would be nice to keep a book of them around.
I've got folders on my computer for my boy and my sister's girl. I don't think I have a folder for floating heads yet... I really should. Photobucket's got a lot of those photos, but I keep them on the computer anyway. I sometimes go through them and smile. It's nice to have them on hand, since some of our relatives are also into the doll stuff. If I don't pack my doll when I go visit my grandmother (who collects Barbies and porcelain dolls), I'll still have the laptop, and I can pull up pictures of my boy. I also have folders for future dolls, where I keep pictures of the sculpt, and the wigs and eyes I plan to have for them, and some clothing inspiration pics. =^__^= Anneko
I still have all the doll photos I've ever taken, pretty much. I organize them by date and year. Sometimes I delete photos that are truly unnecessary, like sale photos or shots where I'm goofing off with a new camera or something. But all the others I keep. I don't know why... I guess I'm just afraid I might be looking for a certain photo someday, and I don't want it to be gone forever. So yes, that means I have photos of dolls I don't own anymore, too. I have a lot of space on my hard drive so I'm not worried about it bogging down my computer.
I keep them in folders, I separate them by my dolls' names cause I'm a dork that way and it's easier to find what I want. I usually go and delete some that I deemed it's not good/blurred/etc.
I burn everything onto disks periodically. But of course I only keep the photos that aren't to blurry or just crappy. I probably have around twenty dvd-r's of photos...
I keep them in my iMac, each doll has a folder. Sometimes I print one or two and put them in my photograph's album (I keep the ticket of the two doll's boxes as a souvenir). I upload those that I like the most in picasa and flickr, and show them to my friends and family. I use most of my photographs as screensaver in my iMac
I have individual folders for each doll with their names on them. I tend to save a lot of photos, even the crappy ones, but after I've edited and posted the best shots online, I usually go through and delete all the blurry or otherwise lousy shots.
I usually delete the blurry ones (unless I seriously liked them despite the fuzziness) in a photoshoot and then organize them by the date they were taken. Inside each folder, I keep the original and the edited version. I have a lot of hard drive space so I don't really care about how much room it takes up. I don't think I've taken enough pictures to worry about it yet anyway. I'd still keep the pictures of dolls I've sold. I don't see any reason to delete them.
I can't bring myself to defeat any pictures i take of Freya... so they sit and marinate in a folder on my computer. Also my computer did crash due to the memory being so full >.<
I pretty much put all the ones that aren't completely terrible up on Flickr. I don't even edit them really, just upload them. I probably should, but I'm lazy.
I also put all mine (that aren't blurry) on flickr! *points at signature* I haven't sold any dolls yet (nor do I intend do)
I have them in my Computer and save the best. Some of the pictures I post on my blogpage. If I sell off a doll I would remove the pictures.
I keep the shots that turn out good enough, put them in a file, and when I have enough I burn them on a disk - I have so many files on my computer for my art, I can't leave other things on there taking up space! I generally delete pics of dolls I no longer have, unless they are already burned onto a disk or part of a group shot I liked with other dolls I do still have.
Everything stays on my computer - or rather, my girlfriend's computer, as she's usually the only one with photo-editing software. We separate our dolls by mold, most of the time, or into couples or group folders. She's usually pretty quick about putting it up and showing them off (and she's good). Me, not so much. They usually stay on there for months at a time, accumulating computer-dust. But we don't delete, and I rarely upload anything online, unless I'm planning to put pics up on the gallery.
I keep all of the old photos, so i can see what they used to look like xD its interesting seeing different faceups and such after redoing them and such, seeing how much I've improved etc.
When I take a bunch of random around-the-house pics of Emma, they go from SD card to Picasa. Love Picasa; I think it's free, but my dad found and got it, so I'm not sure. All I know is that it's super easy to organize your stuff. Most editing that I do, I do there, too. Sure, it's pretty simple stuff (like contast, colors, cropping, etc,.) but it's really all I need. If it's too blurry for my liking - and I know the sharpen feature won't fix it at all - I just delete it. I hate how camera LCD screens make bad pictures look better than they are. At a time, I would then go on to do some stuff in Photoshop, but my knowledge of how to use it is still pretty limited, so I can only pretty much do what Picasa does, and maybe a little more. And then the finished pieces will go to Photobucket. I also have a Flickr, but sometimes it won't work when I try to post my pics elsewhere. I have thought of putting the best in an album, though, and I do want to do that, eventually.
put them on deviantart please! A lot of people quite enjoy browsing doll photos online since not everyone can afford one or maybe they are looking for a newstyle for their dolls~~~
I am retardedly organized with my pictures. Unless they're terribly blurry or generally repeditive, I keep all my photos, including ones I've sold, although I've sold very few of the ones that I've actually taken pictures of. I organize my pictures by year and date, then I also have duplicate pictures (at a smaller, more managible and space saving size) in a separate folder by character, so I can keep track of the pictures I've taken of each of my kids - it's also a good way to keep track of who might be in need of a new photoshoot. I put a lot of my pictures up on photobucket, particularly meet pictures. I do photostories, and put those pictures up. I put up most of the pictures I take, partially because you never know when you might want to use a photoshoot picture. I do put up gallery posts, but not too often. More often, I put up pictures in discussion threads. Occasionally I do edit pictures - nothing fancy, just your general stuff. Besides that, I have printed out pictures and put them in photoalbums. I've taken three vacations with my dolls and took pictures, printed them out and had separate albums for these trips. Currently I have three photoalbums with doll pictures in them. I've been meaning to take around a smaller, more mobile photoalbum and keep maybe one or two of my more favorite photos of every one of my dolls and then bring it around to meets to show people dolls I haven't brought with me. I love taking pictures of my dolls (and pictures in general) and I love looking at my pictures, as much as I love looking at the actual doll.
I sort through the good and bad photos, edit the ones worthwhile and then load them onto dA. I generally keep them on my external drive. I also change the filename by shoot rather than different folders for each shoot.
I horde all photos I've ever taken of my dolls in special folders. There are so many sub-folders it's funny. Each of my dolls have their own photo folder, and there are separate folders for couples, groups, meet-ups, photostories, faceups, videos, box openings, fanart/art, and of course a giant folder of general doll photography collected from all over the web that I love and like to look at often. I even keep the crappy photos, as each one helps to document my time spent with my little loves. I have thousands and thousands of photos horded. haha After I sell a doll, I still keep all their photos. On flickr I just move their gallery into the 'other dolls' collection instead of 'my dolls'. I should do that same for the ones on my computer but I've been lazy. It's hard enough just keeping up with the usual sorting. I take a bunch of pictures almost every day so it adds up fast. XD
I actually lost all the old photos of my dolls due to a computer failure and I wish I had backed them up. I have the 'better' ones uploaded on my old DA account, but I wish I'd kept all the 'not so decent' ones, so I could look back to the fond memories I had... does that sound creepy? Now a days I back them all up in a locked photobucket account.
Personally, I wouldn't get rid of photos of dolls that I had sold or given away. I plan on making a photobook to print, or maybe just a regular hard copy scrap book of the photos. I would like to make one book of my creations and sewing, and one book of actual dolls.
I take hundreds of photos of my dolls among many other things and I keep them all on my computer (eventually backing them up) but I share what I consider to be my best ones on Flickr.
After a photoshoot I load them into that doll's own folder in a subfolderwith the shoot name and date. Then I delete all the blatantly crappy ones, edit the best and load those into Flickr. I still keep the originals on my hard-drive, although I don't know why... I never use them again but it seems to be difficult for to let go of them (I think: I might use this again one day!). I have to sort through them at one point and at least delete all the photos taken before I got my better camera.
For me it's pretty much the same way Shara does it. It usually goes like that: Every doll has its own folder. In that folder, there is a folder for every shooting I did + a folder for single pictures and such. Usually I also have a folder in these folders for "Original" and "Edited" pictures, so I can easily grab the right ones when I want to upload them C: From really, really old shootings I usually delete the folder or delete most of the pictures except for two or three. The sold dolls, all rolling-heads I got as present etc., have a shared folder named "Sold Dolls". So yeah, after all these years I have several GBs of Dollphotos, and after getting the DSLR it got even worse (files are bigger now XD). I'll get an external hard-drive soon so I'm able to get rid of the stuff on my computer.
