Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XXXIV

Jan 12, 2024

    1. Im loving Ena more and more with each photo released of her. She looks just like Sapphire! Ranma and shampoo look amazing! They slightly remind me of Kurumi/Miruku:D

    2. Thanks for the link, @snowgray. I've been curious about Ranma and Shampoo, and their styling is darling. So colorful! Thankfully the head molds don't appeal to me, so I won't be competing with those who really want them :3nodding:

    3. Wow, they absolutely crushed it on the outfits and wigs for Ranma and Shampoo. The extra hands for Ranma are hilarious and perfect! I think I'm probably marked safe from trying to buy them, which is just as well for my wallet. Ranma is super cute but feels more like an adorable cosplayer to me than Ranma, which is fine! They both have sweet faces and I look forward to more pics of them.

    4. @Ligaya24 Ranma and Shampoo are currently a Japan only release.

    5. the ranma girls are gorgeous. Shampoo reminds me of Ran, I love her. I feel like their cute little heads may look a bit strange on the SDGR body in person, though.

      • x 2
    6. The new dolls (both standard and Ranma) are adorable! Disappointed that Ranma is only for Japan - I remember it was released in Europe, and might be nostalgia series for many people.

On another note, are SD16 hands compatible with SD/SDGr? They seem slightly longer on the photos, so I was wondering if it makes sense to get them. I like the separated pinky on H-01...

      • x 2
    7. @MsPatricius The hands are the same sculpts as SDGr, but the one touch system was executed in SD16 differently. SD16 hands have an extra wrist ball and string attached and also cost a little more because of it. If you want the SD16 hands to go on SDGr/SD, I assume cutting the string and removing the ball would work. Volks has listed SDGr hands as compatible with SD10 on the limited option parts pages when they're available.

    8. I really like Shampoo; too bad for me she’s Japan only!

      • x 1
    9. I have SD17 hands on my Gr boy and they have the same setup as the girl hands. I just shortened the arm string a lot and use the string that’s attached to the hands as-is. It’s not as convenient for hand swaps but it works.

      • x 1
    10. @MsPatricius, you'll need a forceps when changing hands because Graffiti girls and boys don't have the little groove in the base of the lower arm to rest the hook like SD16 and SD17. Also, the structure of the top of the hands is different, and they may not seat well with Graffiti girl wrist balls. You'll need to leave on the SD16 wrist ball, like @eleniel says.

Graffiti girl hand on the left, SD16 girl hand on the right --

    11. Wow, it was smart of them to go with the baggier clothes and smaller chins for Ranma and Shampoo--it really does help make them look like their manga/anime counterparts and subdue the lanky SDGR body shape. And they DID add the comical aspect to it, even if it's not a high kick. And Shampoo's wig looks really good!

It's not my style so I'm safe for Dolpa, but I am impressed. I shouldn't have doubted they could pull it off, haha

I'm also super excited they went with FCS 93 as a limited-time order for Tenshi no Mado. Now I don't need to go back down to Sato for it. I'm applying to my very first one-off lottery this month (the FCS 101 boy and FCS 59 Girl) and if I don't get either, I can just go over to the FCS counter and get my FCS instead.

    12. A follow-up to my previous post re Graffiti girl/SD16 girl hands. I tried an SD16 hand on one of my Graffiti girls, with the wrist ball string intact, and basically it's do-able. However, I had to use a smaller S-hook because the Graffiti girl's hand S-hook was too big to fit up inside the lower arm string channel.

      • x 1
    13. I think I just tied the boy hands on (separate piece of string holding the hand string to the elastic).
I was at an event and didn’t have any way to get smaller hooks that’d fit.

    14. Not home for a month and Zhara (SD-F-26) is already serving up tons of attitude. I'm so delighted with her!

She's wearing the FO-02 heeled feet from FCS, and I got her to stand in shoes rated for GrG heeled feet. She is incredibly stable. I will have to try my stash of high heels on her, but if she can also stand in them, I may not have to hybrid suitable feet to her after all. Thrilled about that!

    15. @aihre - What a gorgeous girl. And she's holding her pose so well.

    16. @petiteballerine Thanks. I'm loving the SD13G body so far. It's so stable at standing, she goes into position and holds it without budging. It's still early days but I will play with her lots and push her posing range to find her limits.

More posing pics of Zhara at my blog, too many to post here.

I finally got my grail! Macha was welcomed home today and I couldn't resist taking a few quick photos. She's so gorgeous, I can't wait to photograph her properly. I might just spend this weekend sewing her up some new outfits for a photoshoot.

On a side note, did anyone else's Macha come with uneven glitter under their eyes? It's not super obvious or anything, but one side has one large glitter chunk and her other eye has like 4. It doesn't bother me much at all, but I was curious what other's experiences have been. If anything, I think it makes her unique.

    19. So I recently got an SDGr boy, and I’m having a hard time finding clothes that actually fit him. The outfit I ordered at the same time as him (on Dollyteria) was hilariously huge on him so I bought some stuff directly from Volks that said it fit SDGr boys. Again, things are huge on him! I know Volks has a habit of saying things will fit when they don’t really (Anything that fits DDP is usually kinda big on my SDCs but they claim they fit) but still. Does anyone have suggestions for shops out there that cater to his size or are they all geared toward SD17 and bigger? :?

    20. @RamenDoodles, It's a frequent lament nowadays, the lack of new clothes being made for SD13B/SDGrB sizes. Volks too; they show a ridiculous range of sizes on their garment package labels now, trying too hard to cover too many bases.

Underpants helps a little to keep SD13B/SDGrB size pants on SDGrB's skinny hips. Unfortunately I don't have any shop recommendations, since I work with the clothes I've accumulated over the past 20 years of collecting; sorry! :sweat Hopefully someone else can chime in...

      Which SDGrB did you get?

    21. @beamlette I do have some underpants for him, and his pants definitely fit better than the tops  He’s an F-40, I love his goofy smirky face <3

    22. Next batch of online FCS is coming! SD boys & girls, and SD13 girls.

      (But why no SD13 boys x_x .?)

      • x 2
    23. Looking forward to seeing everyone offered :D!!!

    24. He's such a cutie! Though I'm probably a tiny bit biased, I have an F-40, too! My boy's from right after the mold was released, though, so he's on an SD13 body. I didn't realize the SDGr boys were that different in size, but I've only seen them in pics (I have SD boy, SD13B, SD16B, and SD17B, so quite the array of required fits, but no SDGr).

      • x 1
    25. 13/Gr boys are usually released alongside 16 girls.

    26. I'm a bit late to the party, but wow Honoka is gorgeous!! I initially didn't like any of the new standard models, but Honoka and Ena grew on me a lot. Honoka kind of looks like a little sister to Yumepi or Macha, and Ena looks like a little sis to Sapphire, so I'm sure a lot of people are going to be very happy with them!

Also btw I'm not sure if this would be the proper thread or if I should make a new one, but I've been struggling a lot with my Lucia's SD13 body and I would love some advice from other SD owners! I think the body is quite old and it's clunkiness has been bothering me for awhile (even after restringing) so I was interested in finding a new body for her. I initially was looking other brands that have skin tone matches for Volks, but the only one I've found whose appearance I liked for the price was Sprouting Dragon's 1/3 girl body in normal yellow, but even then it looks quite pale in the photos compared to my doll. I then was looking for a SDGr body so I'd KNOW the skin would match, and found a fullset Lucia for only a bit more than the SDGr body alone. I love her original outfit and wig, but my problem is that I'd feel a bit bad for my current Lucia, who would be left over. She's already been through multiple owners, and if I bought the other Lucia, I would need to sell her to make space and recover the money for it. Am I being too sentimental? What would you do in this situation? :...(

    27. Unfortunately, your options are going to be super limited. It's getting harder to find clothes for even SD17 these days. It's all 70/75cm especially from Chinese makers. You can try Bears/BR on Alice's Collection, or Tata's Paradise, although I think her English/International site is gone.

    28. Maybe my comment is not very useful but Volks used to have a lot of previous clothes releases aimed specifically for SDGrB, i have been able to get some from mandarake, Just in case there is no picture of the tag in the package that has the sizes, you can check from the best of the best website poll the pictures of the past items and you can see wich ones are for SDGrB only by searching related pictures with Google lens in hope to find some past sales items with pictures of said tag /description

I recently got an sdgr boy after years of having these clothes and can confirm the fit is perfect.

Also, sometimes freedom teller opens sales for 62 cms body, but its very seldom

    29. These days I feel like Mandarake is the best place to get clothes specifically for the SD13-sized boys simply because people sell them a lot of older stuff. The hard part is that I know what's older because I know what's older, if you follow me - I can look at a picture and say, "Okay, that's definitely several years old." I've been in this hobby for too long. x_x

Mandarake is very good about tagging clothing with the appropriate sizes, too, unless it's clothing made by Volks, in which case they just write down whatever the package says about fit and they call it a day.

    30. @Misaki84 & @Gallye Thank you both! I checked on Dollyteria too, and I think I found some stuff that may actually fit him!

    32. Anyone following Volks USA April FCS news here? Finally they are going over number 70 and also have three heads I would be interested :o I don't remember they provide omukae dress in the past though. Is this new?

      • x 2
    33. In October 2024 Volks offered the omukae dress for the SD16 girls, which was the first time it'd been offered for Online FCS. Nice to see they added it this time. Also, more face-up choices, like October 2024.

When the order period actually becomes "live", I'll be curious to see if they offer the magnetic animal ears/horns like last October, or if that was just a fluke. Oh, and double-joint knees, though I suspect that is a long way off from being offered through Volks USA. It may not even be offered yet in Japan's FCS.

      • x 3
    34. Wow nice! Would be so awesome if head piece can be ordered too. Do you remember if it was the same omukae dress line last time and this time?

    35. @yin801122, yes, the omukae choices were the same for the SD16 girls. :3nodding:

    36. Hello! I came to this thread to mourn about the new Ranma doll. It's going to be incredibly complicated and expensive to get her. Does anyone know what sculpt this version has, or if it's a unique sculpt? Since I have no idea about Volks or their sculpts, I thought I could look for a similar one and participate in the Online Full Choice System (All hypothetical, because it seems like an intimidating purchase). Btw, Is there any dealer who handles Volks?

    37. It’s unique and Volks has no dealers.
Online FCS is incredibly limited (North America only, only a few head choices, only offered a few times per year) and the body she comes on isn’t an FCS option.
Your easiest bet would be to commission a shopping service to get her for you.
If that doesn’t work you’ll need to stalk the secondary market.
FCS would also take a shopping service and then you still won’t get the actual head or body - it’ll be cheaper but won’t save you effort and you’ll need to compromise on the details.

      • x 4
    38. @eleniel Thank you for the information! I saw that the body offered is SD13. What is the name of the body Ranma comes in? I was checking the head options available for the Online FCS, and they are really cute, so I will think about it

edit: Oh, I saw in the website that Ranma comes with SDGraffiti Girl's Body :XD:

    39. There are definitely cute options for this round of the online FCS, but you have to order by the 7th of April, after that it won’t be available and there is no way to predict when it’ll happen again or what will be offered.

    40. I visited Mado today and took a short video of the Ranma girls! Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to embed, so here is the link. Sorry!

The girls are both pretty, but they remind me a lot of DearSD Anna (Ranma) and Elsa (Shampoo) up close in real life. I have Elsa, so I might try to bring her for a comparison with Shampoo. I'm trying to talk myself out of Shampoo joining the family...

    41. They are so adorable! Thanks for taking the time to record it. I love the detail on the faceups!

    42. I usually just lurk this thread to see all your lovely photos, but...
As someone who first collected Ranma 1/2 tankoubon back in the early 90s, seeing Volks do their versions of the characters all these years later is amazing. And of course, they're adorable! Not going to try for them myself, but best of luck to anyone who does!

    43. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh!!!! I got a white envelope today!! :o

I applied to my very first One-Off lottery ever earlier this month and I didn't actually think I would win her!! I wanted this girl so much, too!! Ahhh!! I'm so happy!!! Tears!! :...(

I was so psychologically prepared not to win her that I was already saving up and moving on to Dolpa content to try my luck at the auction/lottery. Now what am I gonna do there? :sweat

    44. @Grimoire Congrats! She's lovely. I won one ages ago when I lived in Japan. Much fun. Do they still give the year's VIP membership when u win one?

      • x 1
    45. No idea, I sent back the envelope and I'll have to go pick her up next week. I'm super excited though!!

I always wanted to do FCS as a doll hobby bucket list thing, but this is so much cooler. Since I was getting back into the hobby and made doll friends here who visit Volks facilities, I've really been wanting a Volks and was hunting around for a while, looking at Bisque, FCS, Andre and Lady Oscar on the secondhand market, admission to Dolpa, etc. It felt like it took ages to get the "right" one and this girl really spoke to me so I'm glad I was patient. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world right now.

She does have a non-jointed SD body with the double-jointed legs though. Not sure how I feel about that since I was hunting for SDGR. I'm also hesitant to change out her body since it's written on her certificate and all as a "set," and I've had problems with other dolls where I restrung them too loosely and their jointed torsos fly everywhere.

How much does the non-jointed torso impact posing? I looked around the forums but didn't find much aside from they don't sit up as "naturally"...

    46. @Grimoire Congrats! Having omukae ceremony with your 1st one-off should be very cool experience. :D

Your girl look lovely in her violet dress.

    47. @Grimoire, congratulations! I put in for that Saki too, since her faceup is so lovely and delicate. I hope you take lots of photos!

    48. Congratulations! She is absolutely lovely and thank you for sharing a sneak peek of the process, I never knew there were sealed envelopes! So happy for you!

      • x 1
    49. First of all congrats on your absolutely stunning girl :love. She looks amazing and that wig suits her so well.

Regarding non-jointed torsos it strongly depends on how important the torso joint is to you.
For me personally it is about the most important joint because I care a lot about my dolls' posture when posing them. I think it plays a big role in how 'natural' I consider a dolls' pose. Especially when sitting.
But non-jointed torsos look very beautiful and they are popular because of that. I think most Volks fans prefer them which is why they are the current Volks standard.

It's really a matter of preference. My suggestion would be to play around with her and you'll figure out quickly if it's a dealbreaker to you or not. I only found out how important it is to me after handling one. So I got a different body instead.

      (Edited some typos.)

    50. I actually read about the process on a Japanese blog about someone's experience, which is why I had a heart attack when I got a "White Letter Day." The blog worded it so beautifully. When you put your ballot in the box, you are sending out a "love/friendship letter" to the dolls you like asking them to pick you, and when you get the white envelope, that is the doll responding to your love/friendship letter.

Her faceup was what got me more than the dress. She's like an anti-Saki--I don't know how they made her look so cocky, must be the eyebrows. I didn't even realize it was that mold at first. She's not a 'rare' mold, sure, but her set just all clicks together, especially with that wig.

This is going to give me more incentive to learn how to use a camera. I'll definitely be taking her to the seasonal studio sets at Mado!

I'm a big fan of the "slightly anemic, lips-darkened-in-center" look which is why I was checking out Bisque, Andre, etc. I was checking out peoples' Saki's on Instagram and it's such a versatile mold--you can basically do any style with her and it comes out great.

Yeah, I think the only thing I can do for now is see how I feel about the posing. I don't anticipate her doing any midriff or saucy shoots that would look nicer with an intact torso, but it might be nicer for holding, which I would probably be doing when hanging out with doll friends. And there are some SDGR pure white bodies at Dollyteria right now, so I might take her next week to do some color matching if I feel like SD10 won't work out. It was an interesting choice in the first place for how mature her face looks.

    51. @Grimoire that's a very beautiful white skin saki and the faceup details are amazing on her. Congratulations :thumbup

      • x 1
    52. The faceup was done by one of Volks' own faceup artists (Saifa), so theoretically you could request the same faceup for an SD_F_59 if you get their most customized faceup option for FCS. But I think Saki's head mold is only available at Sato now, though.

I saw some Japanese tweets of people who were already applying to FCS with her faceup in mind while she was still being exhibited. :sweat I was also actually considering it if I didn't win her, but was still torn between a boy or girl FCS since Harajuku has 93 as a limited male head model until May.

    53. Just wanted to pop in here to let folks know I found clothes on Dollyteria for my SDGr boy that fit - they were labeled for SD13 and they don’t look like XXXL size on him

    54. Some
SD13 boy stuff fits well, it’s the things that were also originally advertised as fitting the 17 and Gou boys that are problematic.

And the Ryoya school uniform, that’s way too big for the Gr boy.

    55. Just received photos of my FCS girl from the proxy and she looks so cute behind the plastic face mask :XD:! She is an F-69 with order makeup and from the photos Volks captured the look I was going for quite well. F-69 is that sweet spot of resin SD but with DD features :love

    57. For Volks USA FCS orders - does anyone know if dolls ordered with sato-gaeri services take longer, or do all the FCS dolls tend to arrive and ship at the same time regardless of additional painting/sanding?
