Ooh older big Volks dresses? That has to be my favorite photo prompt ever! Here's my Winter Smile Nono on an SD16 body in the Lilac Frill Train set from 2010!

 

Yesss! I love her and the dress is beautiful! What a lovely combo of sculpt and dress, it’s like it was made for her!

 

So many beauties in this thread! I’m going to be digging through my doll clothes today to find some big old Volks dresses - I know I have one at least that must be from around 2004 or so!

They are both in serious need of eyelashes, now that I’m looking closer at the photo, lol.

Thank you for the Graffiti girl instructions! I'd never come across that page since both bodies came to me secondhand. Never would have figured out that weird loop around the hips! Of course, the Origin body must be different since it has a solid torso, so I guess I'll find out when I eventually send my F-72 head to be painted.
Always something to look forward to with dolls, since we're never really done upgrading/refreshing/replacing them. @__@

I don't have any old-school girls or dresses to contribute on this dolly toll road, but here's Freddy who happens to be hanging out this morning. He is an Amakusa on ye olde Yukinojo SD16 boy body (I shaved the neck down to fit).

Haha it might be Ye Olde but NGL I loved the SD16 boy body. Remus might be long gone but my avatar is still a shot of one of his hands. XD

 

It's such a good one, but I do feel that the SDGou body is an excellent improvement. It's a shame it didn't really take off with existing Volks customers. And a shame the SD16 was knocked off and thus discontinued in the first place...

 

I love SDGou and wonder why he didn't sell well, or Volks just didn't want to promote him. Here's the original - Yukinojo Sawaraji. He came with muscles galore and a whole wardrobe. You could buy him through a few dealers on layaway!
Joseph says he deserves some blushed hands after all these years. My bad. I did repaint his face entirely a few days after he arrived. It was orange.
I have Isami Kondo (Axel) and Claude the Beast (Claude the Beast) and another Isami Kondo head (Luca.)

 

I sold my Gou off in a moment of need, thinking "Surely they will release more in the future since they made such a big deal out of him." I didn't realize at the time that he was something of a lead balloon. The engineering is utterly spectacular!

 

How often does Volks host their own conventions in the US? I know they won't host one anytime soon, but do they host their events yearly or at their fickle discretion?

 

Good to know. Now that I have a lot more freedom in this hobby now, I'd like to attend one of the conventions as a bucket list.

 

I feel like I might barge in the wrong time whenever I want to post in the threads I'm sorry if I am And I've been meaning to share photos for a while, too.

The dolls I bought these for are out of commission, so Cyrus gets to have fun with them in the meantime. While he's normally on the SD10 body, nothing's currently on my Switch HD60 body so I thought I'd put him on there just for fun.



I still like him on the SD body, though this does make me wish it had more leg mobility.

Thanks so much, you two! He appreciates all the love It's hard to believe I've only had him for a year when it feels like he's been with me since the beginning of time. What started as an impulse purchase on Mandarake turned into one of the most, if not the only, precious doll I have in my collection.

Thank you! This is actually the regular HD60 body. I wasn't sure if I'd regret getting the older version, but it felt justified in the end seeing how I don't really like the sculpting on the new Attractive body. As for posing, it's decent. A little too slippery for my liking, but that's because I've gotten used to Volks resin now ahaha. I'm sure sueding it would make it pose a lot better.

And just to stay on topic, are anybody here going for the outfits at HTD17 online? I have half a mind to make separate orders when Volks USA gets them just so I can avoid the anxiety over the clickwar thing. I do love some instant gratification though.

 

Thanks, @mionnaise! I'll have to compare photos both of their 60 bodies. I recently upgraded a SD13 body to a HD65 and the posing is immaculate. I'm so glad that Switch and Volks' resin colors hybrid really well

I'm going to enter for a few outfits through Volks USA. It's not worth the effort to bother with clickwars on international IMO, unless it's your only option. I'm hoping I'll get lucky enough to get all the outfits/accessories I'd like this time!
I was really looking forward to the black zori (and worrying since I'd need two pair when I think Volks USA only allows 1 per person), but then I saw that they're the same size range as the white zori I have which are terribly large and don't even stay on SD17 feet

 

My Sophie came in today. I want to thank a local DOA member (not sure if she’d like to be named) for reaching out to me and whom was willing to pass on Sophie to me! This is officially my first Volks doll and I’ve always wanted a special one ever since I saw Dolpa videos when I was much younger back in 2009. I can't wait to dress up her in all the big ornate dresses. Here she is with my Esthy Peroth and Iplehouse Louis.

 

@Ephemeral_Dream Sophie is so cute in her fullset! I like how the boys look like her body guards there.

 

I literally melt when I look at her! She's so precious in person! Pictures just don't do Volks dolls justice. This is why I really want to go to a Dolpa or go to the flagship stores in Japan someday. When the quarantine finally clears, I'm going to on vacation to LA and check out the Volks store again!

 

@Ephemeral_Dream I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Volks store in LA has been closed since 2014 They just have an office for shipments and pickup orders. I’m hoping though that things are normal enough by 2021 that they would consider another LA dolpa. And if you have a chance to go to one of their Japanese stores, especially the flagship in Kyoto, definitely take it! I’ve been and it was incredible!

@riversoblood Thank you! Not sure if Volks made the dress themselves. It has a Pink House tag. Makes me wanna buy some Pink House clothes but they're so hard to get!

@purplepaws I'm pretty surprised you like Louis! There's a trend of the super tall mature guys like LLT nowadays. He was my first doll. I might have to get him professionally painted though. He's over 10 years old and his face up looks plain compared to his friends.

 

@Ephemeral_Dream My first doll was an Iplehouse SooRi I got back in 2005 so I have a soft spot for older IH sculpts.. (Also love your gentle SooRi btw)

I’d intended to enter for the one off Kira but I just realised I missed the deadline.

Not complaining as I just won a DearSD Una. Saving monies is good and I wouldn’t want to take a chance to win away from someone else. :3

In exciting news, I’m waiting on a Coco head, but I’m not sure which body she’d be best on. I’m leaning to her default of SD10 girl. Does anyone have any recommendations?

 

My Coco is on a SD10 Swarriko body and I love it for her. She looks very child-like. But it depends on what look you are going for.

At one point I did try her on a SDGr girl body (did a switch with my Sophie) but didn't like the look. I felt her head looked to chubby cheeked to be on the more mature body. Though it could work with the right face-up.

 

@Lautturi -Congratulations on winning DearSD Una! Not that I have any chance in winning either one-off, but I did enter for SD13 Suigintou and Sdgr Cain! I wish everyone the best of luck with the one-off lottery!

 

Oooh, fingers and toes crossed for you!! My two faves! I love that Cain, but I'm waiting to see if I won Young Williams.

 

Awe St.James, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you were able to secure a SD Williams! It’s strange that no one has really received a winning or confirmed preorder for SD Williams or Cecile yet? The youth versions were so very tempting. It took a lot of will power to resist entering. I figured I’d give the one-off lottery a go though for one of my faves!

 

Announcements for the SD boys and the Yo's are supposed to go out sometime on the 28th Japan time. We could potentially hear something within the next few hours, or several hours from now.

 

Anyone bidding for the 2020 clothes? I'm going to try for one the dresses.

I’ve read before that Volks USA has lotteries for dolpa outfits, other members in the US would know better than me whether they will do the same for this dolpa. Hopefully someone can answer your question. I’m not in the US, so its clickwar for me

It's a clickwar for clothes on the international site and almost always a lottery on Volks USA, so I'm going to take my chances with the lottery since IMO clickwars are impossible.

 

I just got my winning lottery email for Cecile. I was nervous all day and this entire release has been a roller coaster of ‘can I have this doll or not’ since images of him were released, so I’m really happy... I don’t have any resins bigger than 1/4 and didn’t really plan to so soon but I fell in love with him. The timing of his release means he’ll arrive in time for my birthday too.
I hope there are more winners here too!
I’ll be sure to post him here once he arrives.

 

I also got an email that I won young Cecile. Now to find a SD17 Cecile, kicking myself for not getting him.
