Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XVIII

Mar 6, 2016

    1. @nakitaninja, you must have a pretty fast internet connection. I have tried in the past and now I don't even bother! LOL..I looked at the ebay prices and they are all over the place. I did notice that more sellers have Mytyl than Tyltyl. Or maybe they just made less of Tyltyl? Anyhoo, I am so happy you have one coming! She reminds me of Mami, who I think is underrated.

      • x 1
    2. @nakitaninja Congrats on snagging a Mytyl! I've seen so many pictures of her on social media, her official photos do her no justice at all. She looks amazing from owner pictures! <3 Don't forget pictures x)

      • x 1
    3. Lottery and click-war...sadly lost both.

Please owners of Mytyl and Tyltyl, ESPECIALLY Tyltyl, post pictures! Thank you.

      • x 1
    4. Aww man I didn't even know they were available yesterday. Does the international site have an email newsletter? I am second the request for Tyltyl! Congrats to everyone who won!

      • x 2
    5. @callasdoll I've got sad internet right now because we're still in the process of moving to a new home in Sydney! I can't complain because, hey, at least it's there but it fails all the time. I am just relieved that it didn't fail me in that moment.:sweat You're also right- I've seen zero Tytyl. I need to go look for more of him on instagram!:whee: I also feel the exact same way about Mami- the owner pics of her are spectacular!

@Chamillia Oh, thank you so much! I promise there will be pictures in the future!:aheartbea

@snowleopard I can't help with pictures directly but there's some nice ones on instagram! Sorry about the click war for Tyltyl. I feel like he was definitely harder to come by. :(

@kuro The information about the cancelled items was released in their Tenshi no Sato blog but it was also buried in a post about Nagoya 5 so you kind of had to read down through the blog to find it. There was very little fanfare- I almost missed it too.:sweat

    6. @nakitaninja Aww boo, that's annoying! I guess I'll have to keep an eye out on the website. I did notice when they posted the notice for the DD items, but I just wasn't checking recently

    7. Does anyone know for certain whether Volks sunlight skin color is consistent or whether it varies?
Trying to decide about skin color for a FCS order.
Since Volks will only allow 1 optional pair of hands and no extra feet with the order, I'm definitely concerned about how off the color match might be if I bought Sunlight hands and split toe feet from their store.
TIA for answers as I've only have 1 more day to make my decision.

      • x 1
    8. I only have two sunlight dolls, but they were cast in different years, so they'll give you a little evidence, anyway! The color is totally consistent between the two of them, as far as I can see -- I don't think you'd have a problem with matching parts from the store and parts from the FCS order.

    9. @nakitaninja: Thank you for the link. *sigh* Tyltyl is a gorgeous boy.
Is it the beautiful faceup or the sculpt? I have seen some "ordinary" sculpts that were given artful, beautiful faceups that made the doll just as beautiful. Just a thought... :)

@passionasfashion: Assuming I understood your question...Volks Irvin has "ebony" color skin. I know for a fact the color varied a bit from doll to doll in the same release. My Irvin has a warm tan, while another had a clear orangey tinge. The two were compared when they were new so the difference could not be blamed on sunlight exposure. From that, I can only assume any color other than "normal" will have some variation though you won't know until one doll is compared to another.

      • x 1
    10. @Cynthia in FlintHills Thanks for sharing your experience with Sunlight skin color.

@snowleopard Thank you also for sharing your experience with Ebony skin color.

I was out and about with my doll friend having fun and taking doll pictures and it slipped my mind that the FCS closed Sunday at 6PM PDT and not at the end of the day. So I'll have to wait until the next FCS.

    12. His faceup is spectacular! <3 Thanks for sharing pics! ^^

    13. @Chamillia You are welcome! :) Face up is a bit more orange, than I expected (it's so pink on Volks promo photos), but still very nice.

    14. Wow, yeah, he's got a ton of pink blushing on! But what a beauty he is. :chocoheart: I love that wispy wig on him.

    15. @muffinjr: Your Lance is beautiful! You are so lucky! :dance
Perhaps a light dusting with a pastel in pink tones if you ever feel like modifying the blush color? If you don't seal it, then the pastel can be gently wiped, even blown away. Just remember, use a very light hand in all you do so as to not harm the original faceup.

    16. @nakitaninja Congrats! I hope to see a ton of photos from you when you receive her! <3<3
I've almost caved and bought her myself so many times now. I have to keep reminding myself that girls never work out for me. She's so gorgeous though, I'm excited for you!

      Revien Knight, on Flickr

Since practically every one of my dolls is slightly fantasy-themed I figured I'd give Ikaru his chance as well. Hopefully the weather holds out and he'll get a proper shoot tomorrow. <3

      • x 9
    17. @revien Those horns look SO GOOD on him!! :love What a beautiful outfit, too :)

    18. @revien I love how his eyes match the horns and the kimono

    19. @revien I am so in love with this look on Ikaru! Your dolls are always so nicely put together with such lovely photos. I look forward to the photoshoot.

    20. Now I finally see the power of faceup. Both girls are Volks sd-f-01head mold, namely the four sisters, but they look so different. The left one is a white skin FCS with a customized faceup, compared with Kira 2008 Standard Fair limited version with default faceup. I don't like the lines around the corner of her mouth, so maybe it's better wipe off the faceup and redo it. [IMG]

      • x 9
    21. Oh, I would never have thought those were the same sculpt! The one on the left looks like one of the newer FCS sculpts to me. I've never seen an F01 look like that and here I've been thinking Volks has changed their sculpts so much.

She's really cute and some of the difference is probably her larger eye size, too. Maybe you could try her with different eyes to see if the face-up grows on you?

    22. Thank you for your advice! She looks much cuter when I put a pair of dark green eyes with smaller size on her. She looks so special than other F01 :)

    23. I have a proper faceup picture of my Michele, I just glued her eyelashes yesterday. They're a bit glam but it has to work.. 8D I'm hoping I get time to photograph her outside in the passing week. I'm happy how she turned out - after all I mean, I was a bit upset that she didn't look the way I wanted her to (I actually wasn't too sure what I wanted anyway) but I got used to it in a couple of days and now I like the entire look. :)

      Meet Murphy('s head!)

    24. She looks amazing with the thick brows and red lips!

    25. Really late replies, thank you kuro and eleniel!

@KeiCai_Ayan Thank you so much! Your comment is really sweet <3

    26. Excellent job on her faceup! I actually really love the eyelashes, the longer/fuller the better ;) She's so pretty and I can't wait to see her on a body :D And are those Dollshe eyes? They're stunning! The color really compliments her faceup imo!

    27. Hey everyone. I've been continuing to work on my Tohya girl. Thanks for all the advise from this thread on the body etc... Her name is Kallisto and she is finally done with her styling pass...for now :) I painted her face and styled the wig. I made all her clothing and the necklace. I did NOT make the stockings or shoes. Just too painful to get to the quality I wanted, so I purchased them.

Here is my thread with all the photos.

    30. @Chibi_Rat Let me be the first (of many, i'm sure) to congratulate you on your amazing new girl! I think (as I said on flickr) that her styling is absolutely gorgeous... I don't think she could be any prettier.:3nodding: I have loved all your trip pictures and I hope to see many more of your adventure to come.:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

@Isenn Your customization and exquisite handiwork has made me long for a Tohya to call my own! Kallisto has such a sophisticated and feminine look. I know her clothing is more modern but I can see her living in Singapore at the in the 1920's- her look is both worldly and truly lovely. :whee:

@Giggy Murphy looks amazing! I cannot wait to see the finished look with wig and outfit as well. I know, like all of you other dolls, that the result will be spectacular. :love

@Helenzhu Both of your girls are so cute! I adore F-01 families and it is incredible how different dolls can look with adjustments to their make-up. I really think you are a fantastic artist and I look forward to seeing what adjustments you make in the future. I think she looks wonderful the way she is but you mentioned changing it and I'll look forward to the results!;)

    31. Hi everyone, I have a quick question!
Sorry if this is really obvious to Volks fans, but I don't know much about naming and I was wondering if anyone can explain to me what is the Suwarikko body? What is the difference between it and other Volks bodies? I tried using the DoA search box but it mostly came up with Marketplace threads, which doesn't really help me except I discovered it can either refer to SD10 or MSD, so I guess it's not just based on size?
      Thanks in advance advance :)

    32. Any and all questions are welcome here! It can get confusing so feel free to ask anything
the Suwarikko body (B-09) is similar to the B-02 (same as the B-01, normal SD girl body except that the B-01 has a solid torso and the B-02 has a torso joint) but the B-09 has a special leg part which has a curve in the stringing channel of the legs at the hip instead of a straight one which allows this body to sit in the "cute" sitting pose. Both SD (SD10 girls specifically) and MSD have a suwarikko option, YoSDs also have a suwarikko body.
      I hope that helped!

      @nakitaninja Thank you so much!
I'll do my best to post more pictures:3nodding:

and major congrats on winning Mytyl! :fangirl:
She's super cute and I can't wait to see pictures of her with your other girls when she arrives!

    33. Oh wow! I love this photo so much <3 You've really done a great job styling your girl, hooray for completing her ^^ This photo looks as if she was trying to figure out what to wear and settling for the perfect little black dress that can never do a girl wrong ;) And I love mid-face(?) length bobs! <3

She's so deliciously cute!! Is it weird that I find tan dolls delicious-looking? They remind me of sweet milk chocolate! And that Volks Sunlight skin is love! Are those hazel eyes? Yes please! Hazel eyes and tan skin is a perfect combo :D

@nakitaninja I just realised that you're waiting on Mytyl AND that lovely F-64 :D When can we expect their arrival? x)

      Edit: @Yurikun Wait, I'm mistaken. It was not the F64 >_< Silly me. I forgot which FCS number it was, but her image is very clear in my mind xD;

Edit Edit: Its the lovely F62 lol ^^

    34. I really want to see an F-64 myself. I really hope Volks USA offers that head again in the Online FCS. Please spam us with pics when you get her.

      • x 1
    35. Thank you for your response! So the only difference really is the leg part for the special sitting poses, and the torso remains the same? I think I can identify it in pictures now... the curved cut is different because the standard body just has a straight line in the hip socket instead, right? That really helps :)

      • x 1
    36. No, the torsos are different - the standard SD10 body (that both limiteds and standards come on) has the solid B-01 torso with normal hip/leg joints. The Suwaricco body (which comes with some limiteds) has the jointed B-02 torso with curved hip/leg joints. So if you see the curved hip/leg joints then you are correct, that is Suwarrico! But if you see a jointed torso it could either be Suwaricco (so check the hip/leg joint) or an FCS B-02 option. Hope that's not too confusing! :)

    37. Oh okay so it is possible to see the B-02 with OR without the curved leg joint, but the B-01 wouldn't have curved leg joints (unless I guess someone changed the legs?) Also does "suwaricco" translate to anything or is it just a name?
Thanks for helping clear this up for me! I really appreciate it haha!

    38. That is correct.
"Suwarikko" (座りっ子) translates as "sitting child".

      Thank you! :blush
That is not weird at all (but totally makes me want chocolate milk now)
Her eyes are GE-30 (kouhaku), they're brown but can look more hazely sometimes

    39. That thread is amazing with all the picture references, thank you so much!

    40. @Chamillia I've actually gone a bit dolls crazy in the last few months so I am waiting on my F-26, F-62 (odd inverse selection! Ha!) and finally SDGr Mytyl. The last was a purchase originally intended for her body but after looking at owner pics, I am beginning to rethink that. *facepalm* I think I just have to meet her first and then decide.:blush

I don't know when everyone will arrive? Mytyl will first- she's already shipped but thanks to Volks she has a bit of a detour. It's all fine but she'll be here within a couple of weeks. I think the FCSs will be home in August or September? It's all fine by me as I've got a lot of house settling to do before I welcome any new girls.

When do we get to see more pics of Suigintou? She's so lovely~ How did she do on her new body???

@Yurikun Sorry, I didn't order the F-64!:sweat I almost did but the F-26 has been on my list for so much longer that she won out. I do know that many people on here loved her and did order her so I hope we get to see pictures of her soon as well. Volk seem to have a repeated, varied selection of heads they offer every year and I think there's a good chance she'll show up again! :aheartbea

    41. [IMG]

Hi, I just had time to finally open my Blackjack and found that the back of wig is....odd. A huge chunk of his hair is missing. Is this normal? Is this something I should contact Volks about?

One more question, they gave me an extra pair of hands for him and I was wondering what material I should use to tie the hand, ball joint to the s hook in his arm?

    42. @pichu10176 mine also has this, these cuts made for ears, try to rotate wig so this missing chunk of hair appears above the ear, there is also another one on the other side ;)

    43. Thank you everyone complementing on my Murphy :) I still haven't managed to go for a photoshoot. I actually finished one of my other girls faces too (F-35, no pics of it yet) and I'm getting piled of stuff what I want to do. T_T; I have one Sch C cleaned and I'll go on the whitening-journey with her since she's very... very yellow.

      I'm currently on a dolly diet (I have to collect school fees, I've got 1/3 collected, but the total amount is still a lot...) and I've sold many of my dolls... I have a few question marks, rollers, the F-35 will probably be an easy sell but I kinda just finished it and don't want to let go of her yet? *sigh* What I really want is two bodies and not getting rid of any of my girls. XD;

@Chamillia, the eyes are Mystics, alltho they are very similar to Dollshe's design in the iris. I have two pairs and I like them very very much. :3

      • x 1
    44. @nakitaninja I actually have lots of photos on my camera of my Suigintou, whom I'm thinking of naming Erika, but haven't gotten around to editing them, and I hate myself for being so lazy ^^; I will share here as soon as they're ready for people to look at lol!

@Cynthia in FlintHills Thank you for that link, I read it and feel like I've learned a huge chunk of Volks history! I was also curious about the Suwaricco bodies, now I know! I was really surprised to learn the oldskin bodies' hands and feet were attached with a string :o Thank God for S-hooks lol!

Although one thing thats still a question mark is the SD9 body. Was it the first body the SDs came in before the SD10?

      • x 1

    45. Since that thread shows the very first SD bodies, there really couldn't be one before them . .. right? :sweat ;) Well, except for the prototype SD girl presented to Mrs. Shigeta** -- she's in the museum at Tenshi-no-Sato, iirc -- but her body is essentially the "SD9"/"SD10" body we know. (I won't launch into the subject of the Volks Ian body vs. the MSD body, because that belongs in Mini discussion, but it's another interesting bit of history . . . #geekrant #digression) **actually Mrs. Enku

Anyway! Both "SD9" and "SD10" are owner terms for what Volks simply calls "SD." When the SD13 body was released, owners started tagging the original, younger-looking body with an age -- my impression is that Japanese owners tended to go with "SD9," while Western owners went for "SD10."
Eventually, because of these differences in owner language, the myth developed that there were different SD9 and SD10 bodies, and it was fueled by the introduction of the slightly smaller, more refined pureskin SD body.

Volks never went down this road. If you'll notice, Volks refers only to SD and SD13 (plus, now, SDGr and SD16 on the girls' side). Everything else is owner confusion and translation fail, honestly.

This thread discusses the issue, as well as the relationship between the SD and SD 13 bodies: Difference between Volks SD body and SD13 Body?

    46. I remember that thread on the SD bodies being so helpful when I was first trying to figure out Volks.
There is also the SD Origin body now, a pureskin body made to look more the shape of the old SD girl body. It was released with a limited model Kira and Sweet Dream Nana and I'm not sure if anyone else since though.
Also, just to mention other variations, SD just got a new arm type option with a double jointed elbow recently. This came with the newest version of Charlotte and Lieselotte and was an option for the most recent US FCS order period.

      • x 1
    47. It would be so nice to augment that original thread with the later variations -- I would love to see it include pictures of the Origin body next to the "regular" pureskin body, as well as pictures of the new arm type. Sadly, no examples at my house to photograph . . .

    48. Haha! Well, 9 really does come before 10, you can't really blame me for that one xD
Thanks for the clarification! I honestly thought it was a whole other different body type. Would you happen to know more about that prototype girl? I've been really curious about her and sadly never been to Kyoto yet. Is she a four sisters (thats how I imagine her) or an entirely other face? Does anyone here have any pictures they stealthily took of her? lol! I know pictures aren't allowed, but doesn't hurt to ask :P

    49. @Chamillia, there's a little info in the Wiki, but I know there's more SOMEwhere on DoA -- I just can't seem to find it! I think that first SD was basically an F-01/Four Sisters, but I'm not 100% sure. My memory thinks Mrs. Shigeta named her something like, ummmmmm, Sachiko, maybe?

ETA: Ignore all the above! Soooooooo, I finally found the thread I vaguely remembered, and it led me by a sideways route to something I already had -- the Super Dollfie Encyclopedia 2006. And on page 230, lo and behold . . . The Original SD!

Not an F-01 -- really much more like the F-10, SD13 Four Sisters, isn't she?

The text accompanying the photo (on page 231) says, "The ball jointed doll in this photo was a birthday present from Mr. Enku [the sculptor] to his wife, and the start of Super Dollfie. Mrs. Setsu Shigeta, the executive director of VOLKS INC, came up with the idea to present customers with a beautiful doll that people can take into their arms as their special one. Today, SD is different from this doll in its structure and appearance. VOLKS keeps presenting SDs to you like a special present from a husband to a wife."

    50. My new girl has the A-03 (double-jointed) arms, I can take pictures this weekend but I did briefly mention and show them in her box opening video if you want to see what the joint looks like now

EDIT: took some pictures this morning, they're not the best but may still be helpful

    51. Thank you for this :D <3 Finally I know what she looks like! So in the book it says its the sculptor's gift to his wife, but the wiki says its Mr. Shigeta's o.o Should that be edited? xD
She looks very "primitive", even older and simpler looking than the first Volks sculpts, which is very interesting to see how much they've evolved.

I'd really like to obtain a "vintage" four sisters sculpt, how often do they appear in YJ? Is it a really rare thing to encounter?
      Thanks again Cynthia! ^^

    52. It was my pleasure! I got so excited when I realized I had that book -- but I can't figure out how I managed to miss the two pages on The Original SD for all these years, duh. :doh

Good point about correcting the Wiki; I'll do that while I'm thinking about it (unless somebody else already has). A lot of us were laboring under the delusion that that first Volks girl was a present for Mrs. Shigeta (BJD folklore . . . ).

And no, it isn't uncommon to find oldskin Four Sisters heads on Y!J or even eBay and the Marketplace here! In fact, I think I saw one on eBay recently with a lovely artist faceup, so it might be worth checking there.

    53. I received an email today from Volks USA that my FCS May order is completed. Does that mean my girl is coming home??

    54. Congrats! :D
post lots of pictures when she arrives please!
